130.000 Nvidia Geforce 9800GTX+: There Will be Blood

"Θα χυθεί αίμα" όπως είναι ο χαρακτηριστικός τίτλος της ταινίας του Paul Thomas Anderson με πρωταγωνιστή των Daniel Day-Lewis (η ταινία αφορά στην αναζήτηση πετρελαίου και στις επιχειρηματικές δραστηριότητες γύρω από αυτό στις αρχές του 20ού αιώνα). Η αγορά των καρτών γραφικών σε μερικές μέρες θα αποκτήσει "πολεμική δυναμική" αφού η Nvidia και οι συνεργάτες της, έστω και καθυστερημένα ετοιμάζονται να "σπρώξουν" στην αγορά περίπου 130.000 κάρτες γραφικών τύπου Geforce 9800GTX+ που βασίζεται στο πυρήνα G92b (πρόκειται για την 55nm έκδοση του πυρήνα G92 που κατασκευάζεται σε κλίμακα ολοκλήρωσης 65nm).

Οι κάρτες του είδους θα κοστίζουν λίγο περισσότερο από €150 ενώ οι τιμές εκείνων χωρίς το πρόσημο "+" θα πέσουν σύμφωνα με φήμες ακόμα περισσότερο! Όσο αφορά στο μοντέλο Geforce GTX 260, σύμφωνα με τις ίδιες πηγές "πουλάει αρκετά καλά", ειδικά μετά τις πτώσεις στις τιμές (σήμερα τα φθηνότερα μοντέλα του είδους κοστίζουν περίπου €220). Με αυτό το κόστος "κονταροχτυπιέται" με την ATI Radeon HD 4870. Οι πωλήσεις του Geforce GTX 280 χαρακτηρίζονται "απλώς καλές".

TechConnect Magazine sitesi Asus’un beklenen EN9800GTX/HTDP/512M ekran kartının fotoğraflarını yayınladı ancak Asus’un isteği üzerine kaldırdı. 1 Nisan’da satışa çıkması beklenen kart Nvidia’nın referans değerlerine bağlı hızlarda çalışacak. 128 stream işlemcili ekran kartı 675MHz çekirdek, 2200MHz bellek (256-bit) ve 1688MHz shader saat hızlarında çalışıyor. Bu model 512MB GDDR3 bellekle gelecekken fiyatının 350 dolar civarında olması bekleniyor.

First Glances at the Nvidia GeForce 9800gx2

The newest member to be expected in the GeForce family is the GeForce 9800gx2. It is to replace the 8800 Ultra (single GPU) in the next production lineup.

Specs

2 printed circuit boards (PCBs)
2 graphics processing units (GPUs) using 65 nm nodes
1 GB of memory (i.e. 512 MB for each GPU)
2 DVI outputs
256 Stream Processors Total

Although it is yet unknown whether it will support the Quad SLI configuration, it is expected to 30% faster than the 8800 Ultra and poses a definite threat to the ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2.

Provided that the new solution by graphics product group of Advanced Micro Devices offers performance of the GeForce 8800 Ultra, AMD’s new dual-chip graphics card will have to cost the same amount of money as the new GeForce 9800 GTX. Unfortunately, dual-chip configurations offer performance advantages over a single-chip ATI Radeon HD 3870 only in cases when its driver can take advantage of multi-GPU ATI CrossFireX technology. Therefore, in all other cases the GeForce 9800 GTX will be faster compared to ATI’s dual-chip solution, making it very hard for ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 to finds its place on the market.
