• Dickens Unplugged opened this week, and judging by the critics' response, it's pretty unlikely to be as successful as the Reduced Shakespeare Company, one of writer Adam Long's previous projects. Whilst there have been some positive responses to the show, it only managed one star reviews from both The Guardian and The Times
• Gareth Gates will make his West End debut in A Spoonful of Stiles and Drewe, a one-night only gala show celebrating the careers of George Stiles & Anthony Drewe. See the original story on The Stage here
• Priscilla: Queen of the Desert is going to be be the latest musical to join the West End stage (according to today's Daily Mail stort). Apparently it will replace Spamalot in the Palace Theatre once it closes next January. The show's official website confirms that a London run is planned for "early 2009" but there has been no official confirmation of location as of yet.
• The Harder They Come also had its opening night this week in its new home at the Playhouse Theatre, and whilst most of the major national newspapers didn't feel the need to review the show a second time (after its Barbican run earlier in the year), it got a very positive response from The Telegraph. • Gone with the Wind cast member Ray Shell shared his thoughts on why the show has done so badly, in an article in the Guardian this week. Bloggers among you will be interested by the fact that the West End Whingers get a mention as the first critical response...
• Legally Blonde the Musical is also expected in London soon, with What's On Stage stating that the word on the street (also from the Daily Mail) has the show repacing Grease at the Picadilly Theatre.
• Stephen Sondheim's Bounce is finally coming to Broadway (yes, I know it's not London news, but it's exciting all the same!). It's going to be directed by British director John Doyle, and will open at the Public Theater - see the story at either broadway.com or playbill. I'm just frustrated that the show won't open in time for my trip to NY in August!

GIven that September is often a popular time for shows to open, I'd expect to hear more formal announcements about show openings sometime soon.

I'm also still hoping that the Menier Chocolate Factory is planning a summer musical. They've produced Last Five Years and Take Flight in the last 2 summers, so fingers crossed they have something up their sleeve for this year.

I think there's something wrong with Juice's lappy, I think she's throwing a tantrum right now at Juice... With no reasons in mind, I really have no idea what's wrong with the lappy... Probably not happy that she has overworked? Juice will ask her brother to check lappy for her when he's back from school i guess... since she herself can't figure out what happened anyway....

The air-tix has been confirmed but the hotel side is not confirm yet, seriously hope that the hotel will give her a positive answer ne... she's been waiting anxiously ever since Monday, but the travel agent say he'll give her the answer latest by Thursday but hopefully the hotel can get back to him by today... geeezzz~~ I hope she gets the hotel too... Juice's been waiting too long and too anxious for everything.... To-san to Kaa-san mo, trying to help her pack her stuffs, since this is the first time she'll be out of the country for a holiday... the last time was for a band trip, which doesn't count as a holiday.... so everyone's anxious too... haha... ^-^''

Juice had watched Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium like a few days ago on DVD. Sweet story, something that Juice will watch just like a series of unfortunate events. She initially wanted to watch in the cinemas when it was released, but I think she kinda of forgot about the movie since she was pretty busy when the movie was out....

Juice's been listening to Gareth Gates's songs these days, Uk singer..... she used to listen to one of his best selling songs,  Anyone of us, its really nice song ne... its been a long time since she last listened to gareth gates..... she went back listening after playing one of his songs on the piano a few days ago...  demo seems like he hasn't release anything much these days though.... *shrugs* Juice is trying out some other English pop artists.... To widening her pop knowledge..... She has been into Jpop for long enough.... but sometimes things can never end na....

In the last few minutes, my blog's stats have just informed me that today has seen my blog have the largest number of hits to it since I began, taking the day that I published my "Dawn Goes Lesbian" review/post written on February 22nd down into second place (finally!).

The main reason for today's unexpected success seems to be due to the lovely people at two of the Gareth Gates fan message boards here and here whom have been checking the blog out (especially the Dancing On Ice page), leaving lovely comments and saying nice things on their forums. Much appreciated guys! (See Greg - I am not the only fan of Mr Gates hehe! x)

As well as that, I have received a great response to many of my other posts [my review of Gone With The Wind is my most popular post on my blog over-all] with many newbies coming in via search engines and whatnot.

For some reason, a lot of 'weird' searches will bring you to my blog it seems - here's an example of just a few of them...

You do not want to see what came up on the stats for most of the Dawn searches - utter filth hehe!! Ahh well, these are nothing compared to some of the ones that I've seen on friend's blogs!! The standard of spelling and grammar utilized by my searchers does seem slightly alarming though.

So, as well as having a decent day on the searches and linked items, I also have my lovely group of subscribers to my blog who get my posts either delivered to them via e-mail, or else have it tagged in an RSS reader. If you fancy doing this, it's free and easy enough to subscribe to my ravings via the link on the toolbar on the right hand side of this blog. I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised with how good the show was! The ever fabulous Andy Peters presented it, Brian Connolly was our guest judge, and Torville and Dean were just mind-blowing.

Amongst the stars competing this year were Chris Fountain, David Seaman, Bonnie Langford, Susanne Shaw and Gareth Gates (YUM!) hehe.

Bonnie Langford won our show (yay) though I do think that on this occasion Chris Fountain deserved to win!

My head of department was also in attendance at the show and so she got to meet Stu, which was a daunting but nice process which seems to have gone rather well - yay! :oD

Then, Rhydian isn't good enough - the man who smiles and giggles like a toddler and performs to perfection. Perhaps it was the fact he performed with screechy voiced Katherine Jenkins that made you turn your back on him at the final hurdle?

But Leon? LEON?! He had an iffy mullet way back when auditioning. He's basically a mesh of Gareth Gates and that Ray guy who sang swing songs and now judges slightly dubious TV shows like Baby Ballroom. Yet, it is he that you crown as winner of The X Factor 2007! I'm confused, shocked and unhappy. But hey, at least they brought on all the old rejects to do an absolute mess of a song in the middle.

Well, thank god for the HSM tribute song and Kylie and Jason performing on the same show. Joy of joys! I'm 5 years old again!

As a side note, has anyone else noticed how much Leon looks like Evil Chuck from Gossip Girl's younger brother? Uncanny-ish, huh?

duets don't always work. i think simon cowell is about to find this out to his detriment - 'same difference' the icky brother and sister act on this year's x factor are not going to resonate with a nation that just finds these things a bit, well...creepy.  what was that simon? you think they'll capture the 'high school musical' market? make that 'flowers in the attic'.

not as creepy as 'two to go' though, from x factor 2004. i haven't got over that yet. psychopathic nursing home worker tries to carve career from exploitation of blind gareth gates-alike brother. ewwww.

dirty dancing, like grease before it, will outlive us all. the soundtrack, and this song in particular, made the film the success it was. and made enough cash to get jennifer grey that ill-advised nose job...hope that 'friends' cameo paid well.

much sampled classic - many female singers in the 60s paled in comparison to the commerical power of the supremes and undeniable talent of aretha. and otis is just otis and he died too young.

cherrelle and alexander o'neal - never knew love like this

whitney's partner-in-crack cherrelle was once a respectable soul singer albeit only really famous for her collaborations with alex. who is slightly 'eccentric' himself as i recall from his bizarre participation in 'just the two of us' in which he duetted with a dumpy newsreader for the entertainment of the british public. someone really needs to stop the bbc making musical reality shows.

diana ross and lionel richie - endless love

i never got the whole diana ross thing. she is not a great singer. that dreamgirls storyline must have hit her where it hurts. i always wanted to see this film based on the song though.

janet jackson and luther vandross - best things in life are free

i may have forgotten the plot of the film 'mo money' to which this was the lead soundtrack, but i can remember this being played on a loop in the summer of 1992 at a very out of control house party.

judy clay and william bell - private number

another 60s duo who found themselves overshadowed. these two were on stax, not motown. which was way cooler.

mary j blige and kci hailey - i don't want to do anything

mary's problems didn't start with her relationship with kci, but they did seem to begin to resolve themselves once she extricated herself. as ever, trying times can equal good music. people who say they wish mary would get messed up again so she can produce better music are wrong though.

this song is one of my earliest memories. it has that classic late 70s combination of plaintive harmonies,  and smooth vocals.

tammi terrell and marvin gaye - you're all i need to get by

marvin and tammi were a much better match talentwise than marvin and insipid diana ross.

well, in my original post i didn't have room to feature so many of the other acts we have booed, loved and voted for across seven years of reality music shows.

in the uk, we have seen some quality acts get pushed aside by the likes of michelle mcmanus, chico, G4 and the cheeky girls. hopefully some of the lesser known acts here will take the experience and parlay it into something better than the occasional stint at butlins.

well, this lot had two shots at the x factor and bombed both times. they sound surprisingly good on this track though and have recorded an answer song to don't cha by the pussycat dolls. they can't possibly return a third time though - they need to give that one up.

roxanne cooper - all i want for christmas

everyone was shocked when roxanne was eliminated from pop idol, having been a favourite and easily the best singer that year. surprisingly, despite rumours of record deals and coronation street guest spots, nothing has materialised and to date this mariah carey cover is her only release that i know of.

zoe birkett - treat me like a lady

another likeable curly headed girl, zoe was in the unenviable position of vying with will young, gareth gates and er, housewives favourite darius danesh on the first pop idol in 2001. after being dropped from her record label, she married and divorced fellow pop idol contestant mark rhodes and is now dating bb6 winner anthony hutton. and she's only just 22.

girls aloud - the show

love them or hate them, its impossible to ignore the fact that the girls are the biggest success story of uk reality shows. watching them triumph over one true voice and the pathetically out of touch pete waterman was a great moment. i still really want to slap the ginger one though. imagine how different javine's life could be if she had made the band...

rowetta - step on by the happy mondays

ok i'm cheating here but i've heard rowetta's single and its not great. what people are far more interested in is her time as backing singer for the happy mondays back in the late 80s and early 90s. how cool is that? i hate indie music but i love the ravey madchester stuff like this track and how can you not love bez?

jordin sparks - tattoo

how can someone so young be so confident and level headed? especially in the face of ridiculous accusations that she is dangerously overweight at a size 16. what? she's not thin...but fat? she's six feet tall for god's sake! of course she needs to wear a 16. i hope she stays as she is, and stick two fingers up at US weight nazis...

kelly clarkson - the trouble with love is

...unlike the first idol winner, who seemed to crash diet the minute she accepted her prize. i can't say i'm too fond of her work generally and there's something really annoying about her. she does this open mouth, eyes wide open, 'i'm so not listening to you, whatever' thing.

vonzell solomon - dance tonight

baby v got the soul vote in a season of dull country and rock acts. she doesn't have the most amazing voice but has that likeability thing going on. not sure we'll hear from her again though.

paris bennett - i'm so hot

chose the wrong songs week after week and was probably just too young for the whole thing. her album seems to be doing ok and is fairly decent if not groundbreaking.

anwar robinson - maybe after all

lovely bob marley-alike anwar is yet to release a major label album. just too nice for words and the lack of competitive spirit maybe saw him eliminated before his time. of course i got accused of fancying him for calling him 'nice'. um no, that would have been travis tucker that year... : )
