The Mazda Taiki concept sports car was recently introduced to the Japanese and US public. This car represents the possible future of Mazda sports cars and ego trips. No doubt the Taiki was designed to turn heads and raise skirts, both common Japanese pastimes. Mazda also introduced the 450 hp rotary-engine Furai concept sports car that was designed to run on ethanol fuel and send up the price of corn. The Furai has more horses than a small ranch but lack the fur for petting. Mazda said that the Taiki and the Furai were designed to provide the ultimate driving experience and which is even more ultimate than the previous ultimate driving experience provided by Mazda.

The Taiki and the Furai are the latest offerings using Mazda Nagare (pronounced ‘na-ga-reh') design philosophy. Nagare is Japanese for ‘flow' and the ‘embodiment of motion.' Furai (pronounced "foo-rye" is Japanese for "sound of the wind") and Taiki in Japanese is that which wraps the Earth in its protective mantle. The company's name, "Mazda," was previously thought to be derived from the Zoroastrian God called Ahura Mazda but recent archaeological discoveries suggest the company was named after its founder, 松田重次郎.

Mazda Furai is a concept car that has come in reality. Furai is the Japanese word for sound of wind! The Furai uses Courage C65 chassis which Mazda had used in ALMS just 2 yrs ago. The Furai is powered by a 450hp 20B. 20B is the very same engine that is a Mazda Cosmos. The triple rotor 20B had 2 Liter(1962 cc) of displacement, which is quite large for a rotary powerplant. It produced 300 hp (224 kW) and 300 ft·lbf (402 N·m) with twin turbochargers. Hard to say if the Furai does use turbo chargers or not. Is this the new Mazda 787B i do believe so! Check the gallery for the rest of the pix!

Furai, Japanese “sound of the wind” (pronounced, fu-rye), is the latest supercar concept

Furai, Japanese "sound of the wind" (pronounced, fu-rye), is the latest supercar concept from Mazda. The Furai was designed with the intentions of being an AMLS car, but in a more environmentally friendly way, utilizing 100% ethanol. The 3-rotor motor capable of producing 450hp sets the car aside from everything else in it's class. Mazda plans to make this car completely street legal, making it the first mid-engined, Mazda production car. The Furai certainly looks the part of a supercar, I love the organic design of the body. Mazda has always been known for producing some of the best looking cars on the road and this looks to be another one to add to the list. Check out the Furai in action. Mazda was recently testing it at the track and god does it sound fantastic. I'm really excited about this car and I hope to hear much more about it in the future. If you want to read more information about the Furai, head over to supercars.net, they have a whole feature on the car.

This astonishing concept car is ready to race at Le Mans. To prove it, the only Japanese manufacturer to ever have won the 24-hour race took our correspondent for some scary fast spins around the legendary Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. It´s not often that you get 2 g’s in a concept car. Isaac Hernández lived to tell us about it, and to take the pics.

Mazda has shown four nature-inspired concepts within the last year that have been criticized as being too fantastic. Their flowing lines looked too crazy to make it to a factory line… until now.
Meet Furai, what Mazda calls “something in between a race car and the wildest sports car out there.” Built on the Courage C65 chassis that Mazda raced at the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) for 2005 and 2006, it’s powered by a 450-hp three-rotor Wankel rotary engine. Mazda teamed up with BP to fuel it by ethanol E100, the first time this has ever been done with a rotary engine.

Due to make it’s first appearance at the North American International Auto Show in the beginning of next month in Detroit, the Furai (Japanese for “sound of the wind”) is based on the Courage C65 American Le-Mans Series chassis and is powered by a 450hp three-rotor rotary engine. Mazda has not released an official word on if this car would reach production but it is a step forward from a company that has served the sports car industry so well over the years. The Furai would make Mazda’s giant leap into the more difficult supercar league, which is very hard to get into. Most of the manufacturers in that league have been in it very long and been very successful or are fairly new to the game. Seeing as though Mazda has been so successful in the past with their factory produced track ready (or close to) road cars, I don’t think it would be that hard to sell a supercar… not to mention it is based on a very good race-car chassis.

Being a Mazda fan and adorer I don’t know what to say here. It’s either I am speechless because I like it or I am speechless because I hate it. The body shape has very nice flow towards the rear but the front doesn’t really make any sense at all to me. I am no Aerodynamicist by any means but usually the nose would be sloped downward to generate some sort of downforce, where as this design does not incorporate it. Could this pointed nose concept be something racecar designers should be considering? Who knows.
