This was an email to a friend of mine, who though a connection with the Chemistry Stock room, landed me an amazing 1 Liter Erlenmeyer flask. when i was done writing it, i noticed i used the same phrase repetitively, and made the email sound funny. enjoy
How does the chem stock room clean those beakers a really narrow top and wide base? like the 1 Liter Erlenmeyer flask you gave me. I usually clean my bottles by sticking my hand though the neck, and scrubbing for a few moments. Sometimes, if the bottles neck is too skinny, as is the case with my water bottle, I put really warm water and soap in, and shake it around for a while. I feel this doesn't really clean it out that well, and it takes a long time too. I really don't have anything like the 1 Liter Erlenmeyer flask you gave me, so i don't know what to do. I thought maybe pipe cleaners, or some sort of brush, but with the 1 Liter Erlenmeyer flask you gave me, this seems like it would pose lots of problems. you wouldn't get very good scrubbing power, and you would leave residue in the edges of the bottle, which would ruin the experiments later. The same would be true with having a chemical rinse, as it would also lack power, and leave a residue behind. However, despite the sanitary conditions of the 1 Liter Erlenmeyer flask you gave me, I think its really neat, and have plans for it. now, all i need to get a Bunsen burner running to start my meth lab. just kidding! but seriously, i have a few things i want to do with it. I think if i can figure out how to clean it, i may be able to distill alcohol, or salt water. cleaning the 1 Liter Erlenmeyer flask you gave me is going to be pretty tough. -Me

UPDATE: its was really a 1 liter VOLUMETRIC flask! how could i have screwed that up?!

A, YES, I taught Ronald how to play the HUMBURGER KAZOO. I believe it was on a sunny day in May of 2000.

Q, Would you say the kazoo is less or more difficult to master than the clarinet?

A. MORE, the Clarinet has keys to make the notes making it VERY EZY to master. The main body of most clarinets is divided into the upper joint whose holes and most keys are operated by the left hand, and the lower joint with holes and most keys operated by the right hand. (Some clarinets have a single joint. On some basset horns and larger clarinets the two joints are held together with a screw clamp and are usually not disassembled for storage.) The left thumb operates both a tone hole and the register key. Interestingly, on some models of clarinet, such as many Albert system clarinets, and increasingly some higher-end Boehm system clarinets, the register key is a 'wraparound' key, with the key on the back of the clarinet and the pad on the front. As well as the slightly exotic look this lends to the clarinet, advocates of the wraparound register key advocate improved sound, as well as the benefit that it is harder for condensation to accumulate in the tube beneath the pad.
