It's particularly interesting, considering my new home and the handful of projects I want to take on, despite my difficult in remembering the difference between a Phillips head screwdriver and the other one...

Anyway, some people have success stories, others have the home horror stories. The horror stories are the ones that will have you cringing.

This one professional called to talk about bad or cheap mountings of the flat screen televisions. As someone who plans to get a big flat screen with his Bush money, I'm not even considering a mount — even if it was done professionally.

Stories of $2,000 televisions crashing to the floor are enough for me to just get a stand. It may look nice on the wall, but I'm not taking that chance with the mounts. Plus you have to cut a hole in the wall and string your cords through so they don't show from behind the set.

Or, you could just can the whole traditional flat screen idea and approach the fad this way:

It's not worth taking a chance, especially when I can't get the washer to work right at the hose spicket and I continue to flood my backyard...

Cheap.  Food.

We thought we had an advantage.  Both of us work from home.  Both of us have the ambition (stupidity?) and temerity to execute our scheme.  We nursed it, secretly, like a mysterious carapace in a decrepit cave.  Palpitating with promise of feasts undreamed by even the most maddened of men, we cared for it, fed it, let it drink of our hope.  Our success was imminent, it's glory slating our palates with triumph and melted cheese.  We would tell our children of it.  They would look upon us with glowing eyes of amazement as we spun tales of this day.  The story would pass to their children, and on down the line of our blood until we became legends.

Instead we cleaned up a dead opossum.

Papa John's offers their pizza for 23 cents, and we felt we were unique.  Garvin and I looked at eachother and realized that we held the secret key to unlock the chastity belt of this adventure.  Both of us worked from home.  We had flexible enough schedules that we could visit not just one, but two locations.  We had access to a car.  We both had 46 cents.

Our arrogance deceived us.  It blinded us to the truth.  That not only were many of the locations we planned to invade and pillage closed, but the ones that were open were busy.  Maybe busy isn't the proper term.  They were being gang-raped.  I think the hyphen helps.  It took Garvin, in his vehicle which I know for a fact goes faster than 3 miles in an hour, over 40 minutes to drive over a road that normally takes 3.  The crowd outside was consuming the parking lot.  There were police directing traffic.  Snipers were posted on the roofs.  The National Guard had set up concrete dividers and a steel-reenforced gateway.  There may have been german shepherds on patrol - I'm not entire sure, once he said 'It's really fuckin' busy' my mind may have wandered.

But I had a desire to leave my home during the day, and I was going to.  Garvin had an opportunity for us to do some minor disposal work, and thusly a meeting was formed.  An opossum was laying dead and rotting in the area behind his stone grill.  Having been there for a few days, it had a certain aroma that I would not wish upon my worst enemies.  So, armed with a spade and a snow shovel, we heaved the festering carcass into a blue bag, which was then tied and thrown into the garbage.  Garvin's dog Steve cheered us on.  And then ate some grass.  In victory.

Given a choice between waiting two hours for a 23-cent pizza, or shoveling a dead marsupial into a plastic bag.  I'm going to be honest, I'd rather shovel the dead animal.  Because afterwards Garvin and I discussed insane neighbors, the economics of slaughtering your own barnyard animals for food, and whether or not accidental use of the name 'Paco' can be offensive to those of Latin-American decent.  (We determined it was, and thusly should avoid smoothing things over by offering them a chance to 'do some minor landscaping work').

Yesterday was a good day.

every time i my mind gets filled up with sadness and anger i cut my self, i tape needles into my skin and bring pain, i cut my hands with scisors, i attempted to cut my neck with a scisor (very sharp) but flamster (my bro) saw me and immediatley stoped me :( i think emos are in stages :(

My work buddy Lecorps called me up last week wondering if I wanted to go to a game with him and Richard, another work buddy, since we work with a company that supplies us with computer hardware, and they have Twins tickets for the taking.  They are both Boston area transplants, like me, living in the Twin Cities area.  I, of course, jumped all over it.  Lecorps worked his magic, and got four tickets to the Sox game on Sunday for no charge.  Since they were free tickets, I didn't really care where we were sitting, and figured we'd probably be in the outfield somewhere.  The tickets arrived today, we'll be sitting in section 123, row 20.  I checked out the on-field images of where we'll be sitting and found out that we'll be directly behind home plate!  These are without a doubt the best seats I have ever had for a game, period.  So, look for me on the TV, I am sure we'll be in many many shots!

My oh my how far you've come, you old piece of junk!

For those of you that don't know WTH I am talking about, a short history: This is an old 1964 camper that we bought for $300 back in 1997 for the sole purpose of having a place to crash for the night during our twice-yearly 4 day long tailgating trip. Somehow it got the nickname of "Ladybird" (Pete had a little to do with that, if I recall correctly). It was an old beaten-down travel trailer that had seen it's best days right around the time that all 3 of us had been born. We extracted it from a yard in Kittery, Maine and gutted the whole thing. It has been somewhat of both an eyesore and a tourist attraction over the 11 years we have used it, garnering, among other things, a front page layout in the local papers, many photo shoots from admirers walking by our camp site, and even our own "Cribs" style video shot by Speed TV, with yours truly as the host. She's taken some beatings over the years, and was way overdue for a second overhaul. Thanks to Jeff for all his hard work and dedication for keeping the fun alive! She may not be pretty, but she gets the job done, and we have a lot of fun with the reactions and overall good times she brings.

If you are in the area in June at Loudon this year, stop by the Speedway Sports Park right outside the track. If you're up for it, Jeff and I will challenge you to a game of beer pong or darts under the stars. Bring us a beer or two and we'll give you the historical tour, complete with pictures of us. A little trip down memory lane, if you will.

"Daddy...Stop Sneezing!"

Yes, dear readers, my sweetie's hair fell right out in the shower. And, it continued falling out every morning for about a month! And the only explanation my children could pry out of their daddy was that it must have been when he sneezed.

Bald. Completely bald. That's what he's been. Until two days ago when he finally quit sneezing. Now he's stubbly. ;-)

You see...my husband enjoys being bald. He likes to feel the breeze on the crown of his head. He likes the shine. He just likes the way it looks.

Me? I'm ok with it...but I much prefer him with a full head of hair. I like his full wavey hair. I love being able to run my fingers through it. I love the body wave that wraps his hair in every direction. I just love his hair, and I'm so happy that our daughter has his curls and our son has his thick, full hair. Maybe it's because I've always had very straight, heavy hair. I don't know.

Anyway, the baldness episode all started about two months ago when my sweetie started talking about shaving his head. My response? Nope. No sir! I can't stop you...but I sure can be grumpy about it! And you don't want me grumpy!!

So he backed off for a bit. But, with the end of the semester fast approaching, he brought the subject back up about a month ago with the added ammunition that he really felt shaving his head would give him the mental kick-in-the-behind that he needed to throw himself into his studies and finish the semester strong. It would motivate him. Encourage him. Inspire him. If only I wouldn't be grumpy the entire time...

*sigh*

Well. When you put it that way... "I better see some serious mental behind-kicking!!"

And I did. He finished out the semester amazingly strong...he ended up studying about 16 hours a day every day for the last 8 days...that's a serious kick in the...

And it has provided a fun bond between Scott and the kids. They find his bald head to be about the most cool thing ever! And they love arguing with him about whether it really fell out when he sneezed!

So, it was worth it. And, if truth be told, I kinda miss his silky shaved head. Cuz I have to admit, it was fun to kiss... But, shhhh. Don't tell my sweetie. He just started growing his hair back out!

Daily Goal: Not met

It was, however, about 4 times what I wrote last night, so that's a definite improvement.  Maybe tomorrow I'll finally make it back to 1k.  Hubby has to work an 8 hour shift on Saturday, so I ought to have some time to get a few things done then.

Frustration, impatience, needless bickering back and forth; these are just a few of the many reasons why my husband and I try to avoid collaborating on projects around the house that involve tools, putting holes in the wall and following detailed instructions. However, the re-usable template, included hardware and instructions that arrived with our frame set from the Picturewall Company made our lives easy and relieved any potential sources of frustration. Let's just say that we were able to hang our set of 10 frames, all leveled and aligned neatly to a pre-defined matrix in 15-minutes. Not too shabby. Tomorrow is going to be put-that-thing-back-where-it-came-from-or-so-help-me day. My junk's all over the house so I gotta start putting stuff back into my cupboard and shelves before my mom nags again! She DETESTS mess and really can't stand all my things stacked around the living room, dining room, kitchen, my sisters' room and her room, even if it's only temporary. Yes, I have that much crap.
