Goole AFC Forum Tactics

So the test is now over.

I was approached by StuGoole to show the forum owners up by creating and account and putting on controversial comments about the club.

Well I decided to do this with a created name of IanWatson, it just happens to be the week when the club had a winding up notice issued on them. I put some comments on which are listed below and as you can all see are not Anti-Goole AFC but after just a weeks worth of constructive posts the account I used and email address I used have been BANNED by the two forum moderators.

This categorically proves without a shadow of a doubt that Goole AFC Forum is a closed shop to a privileged 10 to 15 contributors and anybody else is clearly not welcomed onto the site.

 StuGoole had told me it would take them up to 15 posts to ban me, well it was nearly correct.

 Any way on with the posts I made and some of the responses garnered from privileged members which as you can see where very supportive of my views, so the question is -----

 WHY WOULD THEY BAN ME

 If Dave or Andy (the moderators) want to dare leave a comment to explain themselves it would be most appriecated.

 Then I was banned without warning or reason, this shows how pathetic Dave and Andy are, slowly they are become known for been the Hitlers of Forum moderation.

 What here is funny is that StuGoole said he once had a forum and was hard on disrespect but he was told from AndyMorris to stop been a knobhead and stop deleting people and posts – now what is Andy doing to forum members.

This may be one reason why Goole AFC have sadly gone downhill – the closed shop approach to the forum and running the club.

Basically, a few weeks ago, I was suddenly unable to write/delete any file from my Windows FAT share in openSUSE. I use Windows XP Home and openSUSE 11, and was having a generally good time with openSUSE, until this problem occurred. I still work extensively in Windows, and so file-sharing between Linux and Windows is crucial. (ps. on the whole, I don't try to mess with the NTFS partition unless I have to, so I have set up a FAT partition in Windows to better facilitate file sharing from Linux to Windows)

Anyway, for a while I was able to write to my Windows FAT partition, then suddenly, out of the blue, I could only "read" the FAT partition, but not write to it. This affected even my usb flash drives (though this problem mysteriously went away). I desperately tried everything, looking in the internet, enabling NTFS-3G, tried changing permissions etc... but nothing worked. For a while I used my office server to transfer files, but it was getting irritating.

So I did something I never do, I went to the openSUSE forum to send out an s.o.s. help request post.

Just to show how noobish I really am, I just couldn't figure out how to enter a NEW post... there was only a <replypost> button but to put a <newpost> I struggled in vain. Ultimately after a long time of frustration I suddenly found a button the sections column for <newpost>. In a sense, while I did feel foolish, I still felt that it should be easier to find where to submit a new post, perhaps also in the side-bar. But that's just me.

Anyway, thinking mine was a hardware query, I posted my first request for help there entitled Cant write on FAT and NTFS (FAT write stopped working)

I realised that the openSUSE forum was quite active, meaning there were many posts requesting help. But when I started browsing for the new queries of other users, I realised that it was quite easy for my post to just disappear from the latest problem. And I think that's what happened. for a few days there was no response to my query.

I decided to change my category and write a new post in the applications category of the forum. The new post was entitled: Please help: Can't write/delete FAT (even with SuperUser)

Interestingly, I found almost immediately responses in my "please help" query (perhaps it does help to have a catchy headline?)... and I must state that the help came from none other some senior members and the global moderator (Swerdna). Wow, that's big!

Anyway, I was quite impressed by such high-level interest in my small request... and we went about trying to fix the problem... as forums do best... through dialogue. And ultimately... a certain DoctorJohn was helpful in intuiting that there could be a problem in my Windows Partition that stopped me from writing to the partition.

I know it all seems obvious now... but when I was going through the turmoil... it was far from a pleasant obvious experience.

Anyway... for the final solution this is what I did... and here's the HOW-TO part of the post:
1. I made a backup of my vfat partition.

2. Then in openSUSE I did:

umount /windows/E

2b. which was followed by

fsck.vfat /dev/sda5
(as root using "su")

3. There seemed to be an error in bootsector of the partition and asked whether I wanted to copy from the original to the backup or back to the original. I tried both, but I wasn't able to fix anything "no files changed" message came up, saying that there was some error in certain files (it thankfully named the files).

4. I therefore went to Windows and deleted those files. And scheduled a boot-time scandisk.

5. Upon completion of the Windows scandisk I reverted to openSUSE and tried to delete a file from my FAT drive...

6. and yes... IT WORKED!!!

Better still, I went to the NTFS partition through ROOT (ie FileManager Super User) and found that I could even write/delete to/from NTFS files.

Back to my review of the openSUSE forum, incidentally just yesterday I found two replies to my query in the hardware section, again, one of the helps was from a senior member. I found that while the openSUSE forum help may not be immediate, it did seem excellent when the help did arrive.

As for structure, it was a little irritating that the forum has a time-out... and does not remember sessions (ie. you have to keep logging in... but it seems to be a Novell related issue... so no need to bother about that).

Also, the forum is primarily "need help" oriented... at least where I went... and I wonder how the people helping have the time to help everyone... especially since the people helping me were pretty senior people (one of them confessed to help me while typing on his cell-phone!)

Anyway, I must admit that considering this was my first help request in a forum, I was more than satisfied by the result. I did need to be patient (a virtue I don't always have), but for serious issues I know I'll head faster to the openSUSE forum in the future.

(ps. it must be said on the record that the problem was actually IN windows and not in openSUSE linux. In fact, I wouldn't have been aware of the problem unless I was using linux for the FAT partition)

Kembali ke judul dari tulisan ini adalah sebenarnya bukan ajakan yang bersifat sementara, mungkin beberapa tahun belakangan ini kita bangsa Indonesia gemar dengan dunia blogging, di mana teman saya sendiri pun yang satu perjuangan di kampus sangat serius dengan urusan nge-blog dan blogging. Sebut saja M. Ilman Akbar, dkk, di sebuah situs 'kampanye'-nya yang diberi judul AyongeBlog.com dengan spontan terpancar sebuah visi untuk membangunkan para aktivis dunia maya bangsa ini untuk nge-blog sampai 1 juta orang di tahun 2008, kalau tidak salah ide tersebut berawal dari adanya pesta blogger tahun 2007 yang silam.

Setelah melihat realita yang ada dengan adanya 'kampanye' Ayo ngeBlog! dari situs tersebut, mungkin kita juga akan berpikir kenapa banyak pecinta dunia maya sering sungkan untuk bermain di forum. Sebut saja forum Kasak Kusuk (kaskus.us) yang menjadikannya forum terbesar di Indonesia yang kini menjadi sebuah media jejaring social untuk pencarian ilmu, pengetahuan, informasi dan sebagainya yang hamper seluruh penggunanya berasal dari Indonesia sendiri dan juga dari luar negeri.

Namun, anda jangan salah persepsi dulu antara nge-blog dengan main forum. Kita bisa melihat dan memandang dengan arti luas, dimana setiap kesempatan para maniac (member, -pen) forum juga sering berkampanye untuk nge-blog lewat forum. Mudahnya kita sering menemukan di berbagai forum berskala nasional atau komunitas bahkan kedaerahan pasti terdapat sebuah thread yang berjudul misalnya posting alamat blogmu yang intinya mencari sejumlah member yang mempunyai web atau blog, jadi antara hal nge-blog dan main forum saling mendukung.

Keinginan saya disini adalah mencari dimana, sebuah langkah dalam tatanan kita bermain di sebuah forum untuk mencari informasi yang kadang-kadang jarang juga kita temui dalam dunia nyata baik itu melalui televisi, majalah, koran dan lain sebagainya. Adapun forum yang saya maksud tentu forum yang merupakan bagian dari kategori umum yang membahas berbagai macam informasi dan berita-berita terkini serta tidak menutup kemungkinan forum yang beraliran 'radikal' bahkan sangat bernuansa SARA.

Sedikit cerita pertama kali saya bermain forum adalah sekitar tahun 2005 yakni pada forum lokal di kampus yang sering disebut dengan sapaan SceLe (Student Center Learning) dan tepatnya sekitar tahun 2006 saya sudah mendaftar di sebuah forum kedaerahan yakni Aceh Forum Community (AFC). Berawal dari sinilah saya yang tidak begitu paham tentang 'dunia' forum terjun dan ikut layaknya melihat orang yang lebih dahulu berpengalaman.

Pertama, bagi kita seorang member yang masih sangat dini dengan forum tentu sangat begitu mengerti dengan ketentuan yang hal apa saja yang kita buat di forum. Baca berita atau ikut berkomentar maupun bertanya dan masih banyak lagi.

Seiring dengan waktu yang berjalan, akhirnya saya sedikit menemukan sensasi bahwa bermain forum ini bukan hal yang menyita waktu tanpa ada manfaat yang jelas, kadang orang-orang sering menilai forum adalah sebagai bentuk pelarian bagi yang sudah bosan kerja ataupun yang tidak tahu mau menulis dimana dan forum layaknya jadi tempat mengluarkan isi kepala. Bukan itu saja tentunya masih banyak variabel lainnya yang mempengaruhi seseorang untuk bermain forum.

Bahkan saya juga pernah mendapat sebuah kata-kata dari orang yang tidak perlu di sebutkan namanya, mengatakan bahwa bermain forum ini bisa membuat kita belajar dan mengajar tanpa harus sekolah. Maksudnya apa? bukan lah sekolah itu tidak perlu dan diabaikan, melainkan forum menjadi bagian dari 'lembaga' non pendidikan yang memberikan begitu banyak pelajaran yang semuanya membutuhkan penilaian dari kita pribadi dalam melakukan penyaringan atau filter (positif dan negatif), karena begitu banyak forum yang juga menyajikan informasi yang tidak bisa untuk diambil manfaatnya.

Hampir dalam 4 tahun ini saya sudah menjalani permainan forum, dan baru sekitar tahun 2007 dan 2008 ini saya menjadi begitu konsen dengan berbagai alasan muncul karena saya menilai sebuah forum ini bisa menjadi wawasan yang tak terlupakan untuk bisa berbagi antara sesama orang yang jelas kita tidak saling mengenal dengan berbagai latar belakang para member.

Selain itu juga kita bisa membuat sebuah pelatihan diri dimana pemahaman mengenal hak untuk saling menghargai orang lain ketika ada isu-isu yang menimbulkan pro dan kontra terhadap satu masalah. Pada postingan sebelumnya di Forum & Forum Lagi, saya sudah sedikitnya menemukan orang-orang --sangking gemarnya mendaftar diberbagai forum-- yang berlatarkan belakang berbeda ternyata banyak juga yang memiliki persepsi yang sama, layaknya permainan sebuah forum. Setiap orang juga harus saling menjaga kode etik antara satu forum dengan forum lainnya.

Bukan hal mustahil bila ada seorang member yang membedakan sebuah forum dengan tingkat kepuasan baik itu jelek dan buruk forum tersebut bisa langsung tereliminasi (banned) dengan sendirinya dalam komunitas tersebut.

Kita melihat sejarah dari forum tersebut berada di dunia maya memang dengan berbagai ciri dan khas yang beragam rupa, tak terkecuali dalam sebuah forum semua jenis orang (profesi di dunia nyata) gabung bersama bahkan bisa jadi pencuri, tukang korupsi, dll bisa ada dalam sebuah wadah komunitas forum tersebut. Jadi tunggu apa lagi kalau anda suka dengan mencari ilmu dan wawasan serta menjalin hubungan dengan banyak orang di dunia ini tidak salah mari Main Forum Yuk!

Promosi bisnis anda di Internet banyak caranya. Yang paling mutakhir dan elegan adalah memasang iklan anda menggunakan google adwords.

Selain itu, ada cara promosi seperti di bawah ini:

1. pasang iklan di surat kabar

2. pasang iklan di web iklan baris

3. bikin signature / tanda tangan di bawah email anda

4. bikin status YM anda di isi dengan link promosi

5. Menulis Blog dan menempatkan link promosi anda dalam review.

6. Ikutan forum, dan menempatkan signature di forum tersebut.

7. SMS, bikin multiply, facebook, friendster dsb.. anda tahu mana yang terbaik dan ternyaman menurut anda..
