Although the last few days have resembled fall, a week before and many, many weeks to come are dreadful. This winter is supposed to be one of the coldest winters in New York. If you have to bundle up might as well look cute. I think you should invest in a cute coat because you are going to wear it o often you might as well absoluetly love it. Fall is here and so are the football games and Homecoming events at high schools. With the economy being unstable price is just as important as the dress.  You can look chic, trendy and beautiful at a great price. Forever21 has chic dresses at very reasonable prices. Free Shipping over$75.00.

I covet this amazing "See No Evil Owl" tshirt from one of my favorite cheap clothiers, Forever21. The tee, a whopping $10.90, is so delicious, and might you snub your nose at a clothier such as this, but I will say that their cotton is uber-soft and their kitsch designs reasonably priced. I'm sorry, but on a student-librarian budget and the economy in the shitter, we, too, can embrace such fancies as $10 tees.

And while I absolutely hate those shops that put random band tees in their collection to putrify a generation of tweens who have no idea about the music of New Order, or Depeche Mode, I have to say that this Fact 50 tee is so yummy I desire it muchly. Is it wrong of me to embrace one such tee and spill vitriol on a whole host of others?

What's more, their knitwear items have given me inspiration. Their pointelle pom beanie is absolutely gush-worthy and while I've never figured out how to wear one of these and look like I can pull it off, this has me desiring to knit one up in copycat fashion and try, as hard as I can, to work it in coldy weather.

My outfit today made that very clear.  Especially when standing opposite someone in a grey shirt and jeans.  I felt like a neutral-colored gumball machine.  In a good way.  

I'm so glad it's finally cooled off (mind you that in L.A., it's no surprise for the temperature to drop 24 degrees from one day to the next).  I was more than happy to don my textured thick tights to work under that skirt I made.  

You don't know how happy I am to finally be able to wear the mounds of sweaters I have in my closet now.  I just hope it stays like this for longer than a weekend.

After work today, I went fabric shopping at Mood and got some REALLY cool stuff.  I have ideas for all of it, so stay tuned.  *unnecessary evil laugh*

Today, I had lunch at The Bus Stop - a little cafe in the old coatroom (snopes check please!) of the El Rey Theatre.  This place was formerly called Doughboys, but thanks to some money mismanagement and employees not being paid, Doughboys closed.  I, along with several other people in the department I work in, went through a brief fit of depression when we heard this news.  Thankfully, the El Rey bought out the space, kept all the people that worked there and made me very happy in the process.  The food here is REALLY good, and it would have been a shame to lose all of that.

It wasn't as hot today, so I was definitely thankful for that.  After I got home from work, I went by my mom/grandma's house to check up on things since they're both out of town.  My sister was there looking very sickly, so I played loving and responsible big sis and cleaned up the yard.  In this.  And that included picking up after the two dogs.  Fun.  Great fun.  Afterward, I managed to jerryrig my camera to take this picture which is now one of my personal favorites:

I am officially over summer weather in the fall.  It is too damn hot.  I would like to say I'm at home relaxing while I'm writing this, but instead I'm in a state of half-perspiration; you know, that damp feeling you get all over when it's hot as hell, but you aren't moving  enough to create actual sweat?

So uncomfortable.

There is some relief because the air is on constantly at work.  I remembered to bring a sweater so I didn't freeze at my computer.

Right now, I'm on a DIY kick.  I just hacked up a long nightgown-ish dress I got at the dollar sale and made a cute and flimsy (and WAY too short for work) shirt.  Now, I'm on a mission to make myself a couple of skirts since I don't want to give American Apparel anymore money.  Besides, they ran out of the colors I wanted online.  On the menu: this and this.  Hopefully it will go well.  If not, at least I am supporting the Legalize LA movement. 

When I stepped foot outside at 1:10pm to go to the park, I was slammed in the face with 96 degree heat.

Let's just say that I was extremely happy that I decided to opt out of that sweater.  

The "necklace" I have on is actually a knotted belt that I snagged at the dollar sale.  It's bright, so naturally I had to pick it up.

Working next to the LaBrea Tarpits and LACMA has its subtle benefits.  I love the fact that I can cross the street and be in several totally different environments.  The place I was today looks down on a rain forest-esque portion of the Tarpits.  The architecture is really interesting up there.

I was watching Project Runway reruns with dudeguy last night (I make him watch it with me) and the "design for the designers" episode was on.  For those of you who don't watch (shame!), one of the designers was given the task of creating a look for another one of the designers inspired by the punk musical genre.  Because dudeguy is a former punk rocker (because they never really get out of it), I knew he would find this episode ripe and ready for critique.  I was right.  

"Babe, is this punk rock?"

He was offended.  Mostly because this look was very cliche and really had nothing to do with punk rock or what punk rockers did.  I asked him what he would have done differently.

"Shit, I don't know.  Probably glued pigeon feathers in his hair.  This isn't punk.  Punk is when you just do shit.  Not because it's cool or you think it looks good.  Like growing a mustache on the side of your face...or...or..."

He was overwhelmed with upset.  My eyes started to glaze lightly.  I've heard this tirade before and, while it is entertaining, I know where it's usually going to end up.

I may not know much about they actual style that o.g. punk rockers would approve of, but I did get something right.

"Now THOSE are punk rock."

Score one for me.  Not that I was looking for points, but positive reinforcement is always nice.

These women have two things in common: an influence on fashion and their love for blazers.

I have found two blazers that I have fallen in love with. The first one being a bit out of my price range. It is Mary-Kate and Ashley's line Elizabeth and James at Intermix.

The other blazer is from Urban Outfitters and a great alternitive balzer if you aren't willing to spend that much.

I love the color of this one and I also love the rolled cuffs. Another fashion inspired by the men is the wingtip loafers. I also found two of these: one pair from United Colors of Benetton and one from Forever 21.

And of course I can't not mention the notorious 'boyfriend sweater.' My favorite is the one from American Apparel that is unisex.

Today was probably the most boring day, but I'm glad it went by quickly.  So far, the plan for the next couple of days is to put my car in the shop, go thrifting so I can start on Operation: Knock-off Alexander Wang, and hanging out with my auntie who is in town until Sunday.  Sounds like a pretty good time to me.

I'm so amped I got to wear my fringed sandals without having to wear a dress (thanks Wendy!).  Too cold for that today, anyway.  I felt very "urban hippie" with all the ruffles and fringe and flowers I had on.  LOL.   People say the shoes are very me.  I agree.  I was a bit leery of getting them, but I'm glad I did.  If any of you manage to snag a pair from UO, go a size or half size down.  These are a 7 and I'm usually a 7.5-8 (heavy on the 8).  No clue why the fit is so big, but I figure I'd pass the warning on to anyone who needed it.

It's a been awhile since I first wrote. So many updates... well I got job doing what else? Jewish communal work. I now work for Yeshiva University it's a good commute I can actually walk to work what amechaya. It's a nice work environment so I'm happy I'm also taking LSAT prep so I basically don't have a minute to breath let alone write posts I wish I was one of those people who could function on 4 hours sleep but I can barely function on 8 lol. Studying for the LSAT is the hardest thing I have ever done but i think it will be the most rewarding. As you can see I am trying to pump myself up, I learned a while ago or maybe yesterday that attitude is everything if you believe it you will achieve it.

On to shopping and beauty. I hope you've enjoyed my DIY tips. They are all really helpful and will save you time and money in the long run. Now that fall is coming I suggest hurrying to your favorite stores and checking the sales racks you might score some great leftover summer stuff that can transition to fall/winter. you can take that really cute sleeveless/strapless/short sleeve summer dress pair it with a long sleeves t-shirt, cardigan or blazer and tights and boots and voila it's fall ready. Also I love eBay you can get anything there. For a great fall wardrobe you might have to hit up a few places. Check out the following.

For Tshirts, cheap sexy shoes, fun dresses, accessories and the occasionally wear it to death piece check out forever21. I have many pieces from forever21. Most have lasted fairly well. Just check materials. some will look faded or pill sooner than others.

For T-shirts, tights and occasionally shoes check out Conway. Conway is amazing. they always have great cheap plain t-shirts, plus they have some really good housewares and dirt cheap beauty products.

H& M although having gotten more expensive in recent years can still be a place for a bargain. especially when they have their 5 and 10 dollar sale. They also always have great coats and jackets for under a $100. Find fun hats there and accessories on the cheap.

Loehmann's is one of my favorite stores ever. It is hit or miss. Always try to go on the day new merchandise arrives so you can get size and color selection. They are a mecca for everything. Clothes, coats, shoes, bags etc.

The G3 sample sale is a great place to find a coat. They have a sample sale once a year in November that features labels like Kenneth Cole, Andrew Marc and Nine West to name just a few. If I can get the info I will post it up here.

Daffy's is great for coats and leather jackets. last year i bought a beautiful lambskin leather jacket for 50 dollars. I also always find fabulous hats there and great sexy, comfy, nighties. They're prices are always great especially when they mark merchandise down.

These are just a few places to hit up. Walk around your neighborhood and check out what's available and always check the sale rack.
