Digital video technology developer MotionDSP is now supporting H.264 (the standard in broadcasting digital HD) video compression for its new service, FixMyMovie.com. H.264 video compression is used internationally by Apple's QuickTime Media Player and was recently implemented into Adobe's Flash 9.

FixMyMovie.com is a video-sharing site in beta that lets the user create movies from their mobile phone, digital camera or webcam. After a recorded video from a device is uploaded to the site, the server starts a preview enhancement consisting of still images of the first 10 seconds of the clip.

The enhancement process consists of ridding visual and audio hindrances like improving the overall resolution, correcting poor lighting conditions and smoothing the "blockiness" that is common with most mobile phone and lower-priced digital camera recordings. After a few minutes, the enhancements are finished and an e-mail is sent to the user's account notifying him of the completion.

Users then go to the My Videos tab where they can compare the original and enhanced versions side-by-side. They can also capture a high resolution still of a part of their video by clicking on the Capture JPEG button as well. The Share this Video tab lets users send their new video clips to friends by typing in their e-mail addresses. Videos can also be embedded on blogs and social sites like MySpace and Facebook. The enhanced clips are available to download as WMV files for Windows PCs users, High-resolution H.264 QuickTime for iPod, iPhone and Mac owners and Adobe Flash for online services like YouTube in addition to the H.264 Flash format.

FixMyMovie.com's enhancement service is currently available for free and can enhance video files smaller than CIF resolution (352x288 pixels) and less than 15MB.
