Ah. Jaynestown. Was there ever a more perfect episode? Well, sure. Out of Gas, for one. But seeing an entire town sing the praises of the wonder that is Jayne Cobb? That's pretty special too. As is Jayne's tricky disguise.

This week, Cate and Tobie try something new. Was it a success? Well, that's not for us to say. (But no. It wasn't.) Listen as we talk our way through Jaynestown, discuss the heroics of the man himself, try to work out what the plot is other than the song and shoo at our various pets.

1. Tambang lebih murah berbanding MAS

2. Tempat duduk lebih selesa berbanding AirAsia

3. Tempat duduk ditetapkan semasa daftar masuk, dengan keutamaan untuk kanak-kanak menaiki pesawat terlebih dahulu

4. Perkhidmatan yang memuaskan

I watched Firefly and I am now very much part of the allecto school of thought in regard to that crap. People who make rape jokes are not feminists.

The Zoe and Jayne characters were the most annoying. Zoe is a supposedly kickass black woman who takes orders from Mal, the standard pale male main character, even though she is more intelligent and the better fighter. Jayne is represented as the lovable misogynist who is just-so-cute (gag). He takes advantage of women repeatedly throughout the first (and mercifully only) season of the show, actions which are played for laughs.

Next time I will refuse curiosity and when a radfem tells me that a TV show is horrible, I will not "check it out for myself." Silly silly HHL.

(Oh, and BTW hordes of white dudeliness, Joss Whedon is so not my god. Take your "works of genius" and shove 'em where the sun don't shine.)

The next thing I know I've made new ones for almost every plugins supported by BossPrefs. The new Auto Correct icon makes more sense then the default one, while my new SafariDL's icon is so cute!

Feel free to use them, by downloading this zip, and upload its content to /Applications/BossPrefs.app/ overwriting the default ones. That's all.

For the Syslog Plugin, you have to edit its services file (/Applications/BossPrefs.app/services/Syslog) by adding the forth line of text as seen below:

/Applications/BossPrefs.app/scripts/iSyslogd start
/Applications/BossPrefs.app/scripts/iSyslogd stop
exist /var/log/syslogstart
/Applications/BossPrefs.app/syslog.png

If you are wondering why my iPod touch thinks it's a "Gee" instead of "iPod" ... the answer is Erica Sudan's little utility, "MakeItMine", which you can find in Cydia. Go ahead, customize yours to say "AT&T"!

A question for any writer (and one that Benjamin Cook didn't ask Russell T Davies, but I'm not writing about that again today, honest): when inspiration strikes when you're out and about away from your keyboard, do you ever get home and think "Shit, I've forgotten it now."

I want to know because this happens to me all the time with articles; that great opening line or a neat concluding paragraph, or a way to link two themes, a problem resolved - whatever, it comes to you on a train or walking somewhere. Then when you sit down to type, you want to shoot yourself for not having written it down, because it's gone, even though it was perfect. Maybe if you're writing fiction this doesn't happen so much because everything is connected to everything else in the pre-existing narrative in a way that individual magazine articles generally aren't.

I always think I'll definitely remember it if it's worth remembering, but actually it doesn't seem to work like that.

In other news, I'm very excited to be seeing the first two episodes of Charlie Brooker's Dead Set at Bafta this weekend, followed by a Q&A with the man himself. Although part of me is dreading the Q&A because you frequently have to sit through some pretty terrible audience interration. The ultimate example is the Serenity Q&A at Edinburgh in 2005 when some audience member asked the Q&A panel, made up of cast plus Joss Whedon, to sing the Firefly theme tune. Like performing monkeys. It was as bad as it sounds; I was cringing on their behalf. On the one hand if you don't do it you look like these spoilsports who won't play ball with their fans, on the other hand... well, I don't need to spell out just how irredeemably wrong you are if you think that theme song requests are the point of an audience Q&A.

So, I got to start a new project tonight. Why did I "get to" you might ask? Why, I finished one of my special couch projects (that I can't show you for a while [think Christmas] as it is a gift for someone) last night re-watching the complete Firefly series. Ok, so I only got through a few episodes, but you know what I mean. I was watching it on dvd. Anyway, so I finished this test of will power and faith and....well....didn't have anything else to work on for a while. So, today I was ambling about on Ravelry and realized that the party that they are having at Rhinebeck (only a week to go OH MY GOD!!!) is going to be outside. Which means cold (or at the very least cool, which for someone used to yearly lows for an area being in the 40's means cold) and that everyone else there would be able to wear something that they knitted or crocheted and I can't wear one of the bajillion blankets haven't made anything clothing for me, ever. No scarves, ponchos (gag a little at that word) hats, sweaters, socks, nothing. So, I decided to make a shawl. I saw a pattern I think in Crochet Today! for a "quick and easy" shawl that actually looked like something that I would wear for once (usually, to me, "quick and easy" also translates to "butt and ugly") but not in a yarn that I would like. Technically, this is the pattern that I am following but I think that it is going to end-up looking quite a bit more like this as I think that it needs to be a little longer and more substantial. I stopped at Sip and Knit on my way to the Happy Hookers Meet-up. Hung out with Tucker the sinfully cute furry mascot of the store for a little bit and made my way with 4 skeins of Mirasol Sulka yarn in caramel and 2 in snow white. I found this yarn originally during a visit to Chicago. I made a (rather) expensive scarf out of it then, now I am making a (rather) expensive shawl out of it. However, I will tell you, it is going a lot further in the shawl than it did in the scarf! Anyway, I am (a little) bummed because Sip and Knit is having it's 10th anniversary party the Sunday that I am going to be at Rhinebeck and it sounds as though they have a lot of cool give-aways and discounts planned. Doh! Anyway, so I am about halfway through the pattern as it was written and it has been, indeed, "quick and easy" and it is still looking like something that I would deem acceptable to put on my back, so it all seems good (so far).

Otherwise, my days are a blur of homework, pet care, work and move preparation. I will try to take a photo of the WIP shawl tomorrow (as it is too dark and too rainy outside tonight [It was a dark and rainy night.....]).

Now, I need to go and try to save some African violets from Destructo Cat's vengeance.

Kao sto sam i obecao, prva retro recenzija prve epizode Fireflya. Razmisljanja i lagane spojlere procitajte u nastavku.

Pilot nas prvo baca sest godina unazad u nekakvu borbu u kojoj upoznajemo glavnog covjeka serije, Mal Reynoldsa.

"sadasnjost" tj. 2517. godina.

Jayne i scena ispitivanja federalca. Genijalno.

Reaveri i njihovo prvo pojavljivanje u seriji. Malo detaljnije smo tek u filmu o njima saznali, a i prvi put vidjeli.

Mal: "Shoot them." Zoe: "Shoot them?" Mal: "Politely."

Pjesma na spici. Ballad of Serenity.

Poor Nathan Fillion. The guy has really done nothing but good work in "Firefly", "Waitress", a brief "Lost" stint, and most recently, Dr. Horrible's nemesis Captain Hammer from "Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog". Unfortunately, it just doesn't seem like he can catch a break. The trailer for this new ABC cop show/comedy, "Castle", is weak at best.

Here is the premise: Fillion plays a fiction writer named Nick Castle. A string of copycat murders based on murders from Castle's books start happening in New York. Enter young, sexy, sassy police detective, Kate Beckett (Stana Katic). She gets Castle to help her solve the case. They flirt and make innuendos. Then, we all fall asleep. Fillion is definitely a charming looking dude and he probably could play this role in his sleep but...cop shows just suck.

Okay at risk of being one of those bloggers who takes long absences and then writes posts about how they plan to write posts, they just don't have the time. Well, I don't have the energy. I barely have the energy to HAVE sex let alone write about having sex.

I also have PMS this week. Which was making me bitchy and now it's making me want to cry all the time. And Anna is having a week of wanting to hurt things (I was afraid last night while putting dishes away because there were several knives).

I've been geeking out and watching the whole season of Firefly in a week. OMG, it is a fucking tragedy that it was cancelled. Voyager runs for 7 years and Firefly gets half a season. Good grief. Hopefully I'm seeing the movie (again) on Friday.

IT's Thanksgiving Weekend in Canada. My brother and his gf and their baby are coming to my Mom and Stepdad's. I'm very excited. Disappointed the step-nephews are not joining as I haven't met them yet. But anyway I get to see thier new baby (for the second time) and visit with them.My brother is 3 years younger than the body.

And thirdly, new in my life, i'm getting a cold. My throat was sore this morning. My eyes are watery and my nose is stuffy and a bit runny. I have to cut down on my blogs, but I keep finding new survivor type blogs.

I have to hit the kidlet's school. They are having a turkey dinner today and I"m supposed to helping as of ... 2 minutes ago I'm late. :P
ANother reason I haven't been writing lately is I'm afraid of being outed. As a mutliple, as a someone who is writing about sex. My job could be in jeopardy if someone found out. My blog is pretty obscure in the grand scheme of things. And people in my physical life don't really know my online alias (with exception of a few freinds but if they did stumble on here it isn't a risk). We'll see what happens. I do need the outlet. But feeling exposed doesn't help the words flow outward.

Dearest Gabriel,

On 1st of Oct 2008, you had experienced your first aeroplane ride to Kuala Lumpur. The night, you had requested to go to sleep right after dinner as you really eagerly waiting to sit in the plane after you woke up : ) When mummy told you that you would fly like a bird and as high as the cloud, you laughed loud and said "Like Super Grover! " Hahaha!

Early next morning, we took a taxi to the airport. You told the taxi driver, you wanted to go to KL. The taxi driver was shocked : ) When we got up the plane, you were busy playing all the buttons on the chair and the safety belt. We were lucky that Firefly had implemented the refreshment on 1st Oct 08. We were served with muffin and orange juice. You really enjoyed the food and drink : ) Surprisingly, throughout the journey, you were interested to read the safety instruction card. Papa had taken a copy for you even though it was not supposed to be removed. Papa also bought you a model aeroplane for remembrance. The air stewardess fixed the plane for you. You also took a picture with the pilot.

The next model to move into my seven-at-a-time rotation: The Fairey Firefly. (Yes, John Heck, it did with the great multi-bracket round-robin computer solitaire tournament, defeating the P-51D in the final.) I’m not sure which Firefly I’ll do, although I lean toward a Korean War machine (And that would most likely be a Mk. V), and I have both the Special Hobby and Octopus kits… Does anyone have any suggestions for references and/or aftermarket parts to spruce up a 1:72 Firefly? I already have the "Sea Fury/Firefly/Venom In Australian Service" book, and the Grub Street publication "Sea Furies and Fireflies Over Korea." (By the way, get a look at the price on this on Amazon. I'll sell it to you for $33 less than that!) Any other Firefly-specific titles come to mind?

By the way, this blog post will be a neat way to calculate exactly how long it takes me to finish a model. The date of the initial commitment is now etched in stone/electrons. Please wait at least 18 months before starting with the taunts.

Well, I’ve descended to new depths of nerdiness while at the same time ascending to new height

Well, I've descended to new depths of nerdiness while at the same time ascending to new heights of awesome. Yes, I LARPed this weekend. That's Live Action Role Playing, the thing where people typically dress like elves and yell "magic missile!" while throwing streamers at each other.

Now, I have to disclaim briefly here. This particular LARP didn't have elves or magic missiles because it was Firefly-themed (EDIT: Also, it was not a "boffer LARP", wherein combat is simulated with thrown items and foam weapons). If you haven't seen the show, it's essentially a sci-fi western. It's a pretty cool setting, with this sense of frontier justice and banditry over the backdrop of spaceport cowboy towns. What made this game particularly awesome was that the organizers secured Boomtown at the Western Development Museum for the evening. Boomtown is a historical recreation of a 1910 prairie town. In other words, the perfect place for a bunch of rowdy people with rifles, chaps, and bottles of whiskey to get into brawls and sort out their differences in a duel. What a LARP in this setting looks like is an assortment of characters from the Firefly world milling about and interacting with one another, dropping back into reality only to address real-world issues like lost keys or rules questions. If you were to step into the middle of it, you might actually believe it for a second. It was pretty neat.

The character I was given to play was a gamblin' man named Hugh Fitzroy, traveling from world to world and winning what he could before he got chased out of town. Chris was kind enough to lend me a sweet leather duster and hat, which I combined with a bolo tie and some general cowboy duds. I think I looked awesome, and wish I wore that every day.

Here's a peek, courtesy of Angie. I look sooooo good.

Anyways, as soon as the game began, I strutted into town and started feeling it out. My first meaningful interaction was a curt discussion with the owner of the local mines, who was upset with my regular fleecing of the miners. I brushed him off with characteristic arrogance (Berkley's? His character's?) and carried on. One of my objectives for the evening was to make as much money as possible, then arrange passage off world. I didn't really have much to do with the main story, which concerned a marriage and a defection and other things a gamblin' man tries to steer clear of. But damn I felt good as a backup character. Charm here, mine for information there, and get the hell out when things looked dicey. I quickly lost all my money at poker because I didn't end marking my cards as I would have liked to. However, I spent a good amount of time flirting with the young ladies of the town and eventually charmed my onto not one, but three separate ships. Out of those, I chose the free ticket with two performers (prostitutes?) on a luxury liner headed for the major centres of the galaxy. A pretty good deal, if I may say so myself. Ha ha ha. If only I were that charming in real life.

Yessir, sometimes lady luck don't just smile, she lifts up her skirts and jumps right on top of ya.

-Hugh Fitzroy

I was really impressed with the level of costuming and commitment to their characters that people brought to the game. For any roleplaying experience to be worthwhile, people need to behave consistently and stick to who they are portraying. I honestly had no difficulty believing any of the characters at all. There was a gambling Alliance Major who brought more chips to the table than little old Hugh had ever seen and a schoolteacher who grew wide-eyed at any mention of adventure. I got into a little tiff with a war veteran and avoided the intimidating commander types. I really felt like a Firefly cowboy and had a great time.

Thanks to all the people I had sweet interactions with. I wonder what you're actually like.

Just started, Supersusan and I, to rewatch The Lost Room, a 3-part miniseries aired on the SciFi Cha

Just started, Supersusan and I, to rewatch The Lost Room, a 3-part miniseries aired on the SciFi Channel in December 2006. Don`t have time to go into the detail of it, suffice to say that the story involved a bunch of strange, everyday-looking objects which have strange properties; turns out all these objects were in a motel room when - SOMETHING TERRIBLE - happeneed, dislocating the room and all its contents from space-time. The main character in the series, Joe Hill (played by Peter Krause) is a cop who gets hold of the key to the Room - the key can unlock any door and turn it into the door to the Room and from the Room you can go anywhere, pretty much, so long as there`s a door to come out of.

The objects are many and bizarre, like the wristwatch which boils an egg if you put it inside the wristband. But, combine the watch with the pocketknife and you are able to read minds.

The possibilities and implications are many and possibly pretty wild too. An absolute cinch for a full-run TV series, wouldn`t ya think? But no - some pinhead with the brains of a calculator merely looked at the viewing figures (it was aired in a not-particularly great part of the schedule) and decided `Meh` which meant that it went nowhere. The writer, Christopher Leone, was probably sickened at being shafted - I know I would have been (and look at Firefly for another brilliant TV exec decision).

I have a theory that TV execs have a secret device with which they can analyse a television drama and calculate how much Quality it has, and if there`s too much quality in the show, kersplash, it gets canned.

Hmm, this device should have a name, on which I shall ponder more.

Additional

Supersusan came up with a name for the anti-TV-quality device - the Qualiminator! Pretty good, I think, and what's more, I reckon that this is a 2-way device. Feed good programme ideas into it and it'll produce some equivalent that is demeaning or debased; once upon a time on British tv there was a prog called 'Face The Music', a classical music game show whose guests included the likes of David Attenborough, Bernard Levin, Joyce Grenfell, Michael Bentine and Robin Ray, and it was cultured and clever and gently witty so I imagine that if you fed that into the Qualiminator you'd end up with something like X-Factor or Pop Idol, something with the IQ of a lame beetle. I mean, there has to be some explanation for the existence of such pukefests as the Jeremy Kyle Show or anything with Jim Davidson!

See, my mind just goes to these random places. This is why I need a blog. Anyway, herein we follow up on the intrepid spacefarers to see where life has taken them since Serenity 2 was never made.

Nathan Fillion (Mal): Captain Reynolds has been a busy boy since 2005. He received good marks for his roles in Slither and Waitress. He starred in an episode of "Lost" and an episode of "Robot Chicken". He did a run on "Desperate Horsewives". He played a total asshole to great effect in Joss Whedon's little Internet curiousity, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. That's all in the last 3 years! In 2009, he has two movies coming out, Chilled in Miami and Wonder Woman, and a TV series debuting called "Castle". I like Fillion. I think he's natural and funny and not, for the record, redundant with Jason Bateman.

UPDATE: I forgot to mention that Fillion was a lead on "Drive", yet another series heartlessly abandoned by Fox.

Gina Torres (Zoe): Our kick-ass First Officer has also kept busy, mostly in television. She voiced a recurring character named Vixen on "The Justice League"; she also had recurring roles on "The Shield" and "Alias". She starred with Chris Rock in the movie I Think I Love My Wife and received good reviews for her performance. Her and Ron Livingston played erstwhile lovers and partners in the TV series "Standoff" until it was cancelled. She just recently played a role as an assistant district attorney on "Boston Legal" (God help her, I hope Shatner kept his paws to himself). Finally, she has a movie coming out later this year called Don't Let Me Drown.Torres is another solid, down-to-earth actor, who I really like. I hope she continues to see success. Also of note? She is Laurence Fishburne's wife of 7 years.

Alan Tudyk (Wash): This would be my favorite character on the show, in case you're interested. Tudyk has had some high-profile supporting parts, notably in Knocked Up and 3:10 to Yuma. He was also in a neat little British comedy called Death at a Funeral. He's stoned on prescription pills the whole time and he's very funny (and eventually nude on a rooftop). He had a straight-to-DVD movie come out this year, naturally co-starring Elizabeth Berkley, called Meet Market. Have to pay the bills! His next project is a TV pilot with no title that is produced by Barry Sonnenfeld. Honorable mention must go to his turn as Steve the Pirate in Dodgeball, which is stupidly hilarious movie that I love. I saw him at a Dallas Comic-Con once and he looks exactly the same in person.

Morena Baccarin (Inara): The lovely, Julliard-trained Baccarin has been on many, many TV shows since 2005. To wit: "Justice League", "The O.C.", "Kitchen Confidential", "How I Met Your Mother", "Justice", "Las Vegas", "Stargate SG-1", "Heartland", and "Dirt". Girl has been working hard! And that's a good thing. She also has a movie coming out later this year called The Boy in the Box, starring Josh Lucas. I saw her at a Dallas Comic-Con - walked right by her in the hallway, actually - and she is really tiny.

Adam Baldwin (Jayne): What was Jayne's role on the ship, anyway? Was he the Worf? I can't remember. Baldwin - who isn't related to THE Baldwins, not even a cousin or anything - is best known now as the bad guy on "Chuck". He had a bit part this summer in Drillbit Taylor. He and Morena Baccarin starred together in a TV movie called Sands of Oblivion. He also had an ensemble role on the Taye Diggs non-starter series "Day Break". He has a movie coming out later this year called Little Fish, Strange Pond, a crime comedy starring Matthew Modine, the director of which has previously worked with Britney Spears. I would really like to see Baldwin and Fillion re-united in something. I always loved their rough bromantic chemistry on "Firefly".

Jewel Staite (Kaylee): Little Kaylee has had a recurring role on "Stargate: Atlantis" since 2005. That is her only credit after Serenity. I will get to see her at the next Dallas Comic-Con, where I expect she will look both tiny and the same as she does on TV.

Sean Maher (Simon): The good doctor and lover-man has done one episode of "Ghost Whisperer", a movie called Living 'til the End and a TV movie called Wedding Wars. In Living 'til the End, Maher stars as an agoraphobic who learns from a psychic when he's going to die. He tried to make the best of the time he has left. Wedding Wars, if you don't remember, was the one where all the gay people in the wedding industry go on strike until gay marriage is legalized. It starred John Stamos and Eric Dane. Apparently, Maher used to call the actress who played his sister on "Firefly" by her real name and not her character name. Summer, River, Uma, Oprah. It's too much!

River Glau (Summer): Kidding! See what I did there? Summer Glau has been on three major TV series since 2005: "The Unit", "The 4400", and, currently, "Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles", where she has her fly ninja skillz on full display. TV is what she is doing; she has no movies coming out. It will not surprise you that she is a prima ballerina. It will surprise you that she is a Dallas Cowboys fan.

Ron Glass (Shepherd Book): This is interesting, actually: Glass served as a re-enactor on a series called "Secret History of Religion". I've never seen that on a resume before. After that, he starred in three episodes of the James Woods legal series "Shark". He can currently be seen at your local movie cineplex in the Neil LaBute thriller Lakeview Terrace.

So, there you have it. Some of the Serenity's fine crew are easier to track down than others these days but at least all of them are working. When not working, they can be found weeping to late-night showings of Galaxy Quest.

Lost

Entourage

Dexter

Life

Battlestar Galactica

Dr. Who

South Park

Real Time with Bill Maher

Heroes

House

Chuck

Scrubs

The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson

30 Rock

The Big Bang Theory

Family Guy

Extras

Nip/Tuck

The Sarah Connor Chronicles

How I Met Your Mother

The Simpsons

Reaper

Raising The Bar

In Plain Sight

Torchwood

My Name Is Earl

Little Britain

Shark

Two And A Half Men

Smallville

Californication

How Not To Live Your Life

Knight Rider 2008

American Dad

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart

The Colbert Report

Greek

Do Not Disturb

Mad TV

Saturday Night Live

Secret Diary Of A Callgirl

90210

Monk

Psych

Curb Your Enthusiasm

Flight Of The Conchords

Gossip Girl

Eureka

The Riches

Serenity

The West Wing

Seinfeld

Jericho

Arrested Development

Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Das also der Plan. Stop wasting time! 18 Favoriten, 31 gestrichen. Nicht schlecht.

Best regards, Mario

NOOO!!!! This is the new OC! They can't cancel it! Channel 10 has shelved the new series because of poor ratings. Apparently it only received 661, 000 or so viewers on Monday. It will probably be back in the Summer in a crappy timeslot. 661, 000 people is a fucking huge amount of people god dammit!!

I must admit I did find this show a little boring, but still, I wanted to at least see the season out. It was still a fairly good show, even if it doesn't really represent with 100% correctness the issues that teens face. Sure it had the chick who did drugs, but the show didn't make people like her at the start, viewers didn't feel betrayed. The only character I really liked was the chick with the blog, and not because she had a blog. This brings me to another point, the show wasn't memorable. I don't even know the characters names and I've been watching it since the beginning! That's 3 episodes and I don't know all their names, except for Annie and Tye. Otherwise nothing. That's bad, I should've noticed that as an omen or something.

Even though I guess the show wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be I didn't want it to be cancelled. I could watch it online, it hasn't been cancelled in the US, they like it over there. The show averaged about 4 million people on its premiere. Bring it back! This is like Bionic Woman, Big Brother and Firefly all over again!
