Abbiamo preso parte all'evento che si è svolto a Catania presso il lido "Le Palme" ed abbiamo potuto assistere ad una sfilata che offre ricchi spunti, adatti a tutti gli stili: dallo sporty chic, al total pink, passando per il look leopardato, fino a quello da sera. Is there anything this girl can't do? Lets hope the retirement rumors that were started at Bonnaroo and have yet to be denied are false.

But it looks like the next release from M.I.A. will be a clothing line, which has been rumored for some time since when she's not wearing Jeremy Scott onstage she is rocking her own designs. If you go to her site, there is a video that appears to be an advertisement for her clothing line with the tag line "coming soon." The clothes look Bright, Bold and Brash, which is exactly what you would expect from M.I.A. According to the site, the line will have a limited run.

And speaking of another critically-acclaimed artist getting into the designing world, get ready to rock your favorite electro stars Justice's new line. Apparently, it was not only readers that were disgruntled by the Obama cartoon cover, but rumors have swirled inside Condé Nast that advertisers also were upset with the latest debacle, which depicts Barack Obama in Muslim garb and wife Michelle as a machine gun-toting radical.

The magazine is now among the most troubled magazines at Condé Nast, and it remains to be seen if the current controversy upsets the title's tenuous hold on profitability.

Through the July 7 issue, The New Yorker is down a staggering 21.2 percent in ad pages to 699.69, compared with the same period a year ago, when it racked up 887, according to Media Industry Newsletter, which tracks the industry.

The magazine, whose parent company is S.I. Newhouse's Advance Publications, was estimated to have lost more than $175 million under his ownership before it finally turned a slight profit in 2002, when David Carey was publisher. At that time, it was pulling in about 2,200 ad pages a year.

Despite the uproar, embattled Editor-in-Chief David Remnick is garnering support from his immediate predecessor, Tina Brown.

"I thought it was a perfectly justifiable decision," said Brown of the cover. "I personally like it when magazines take on the issues of the day." (New York Post)

Yeah, Ms. Brown and you'll walk away with a pretty penny whether the magazine folds or not. It ain't your problem.

Industry speculation focused on the possibility of a bankruptcy filing confirming rumoursof Mervyns impending doom.

Mervyns, based in Hayward, Calif., has been hurt by the housing implosion in that state, and its core customers are being squeezed by rising gas and food prices, job cuts and tight credit.

A Mervyns spokesman declined to comment. We'll keep you posted.

SUMMER has officially begun as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week kicks off in Miami Beach today.

 After having spent last week in Miami, obviously one week too early for Fashion Week but did see the requisite thongs (the bathing suit kind, not shoes) on the crosswalk and topless babes on Miami Beach. 

 Nonetheless, we will wait to see what is instore for bathing suits in print.

 Expect to see the most covetable of swimwear from the likes of Tibi, Diesel, Zimmerman, Red Carter and the British  Pistol Panties - the only UK label chosen to show this year - throughout the four day fashion swimathon.

Variety and Hollywood Reporter have drawn the ire of several independent movie blogs, which claim the sites have taken news from the blogs without attribution and are now calling on the blogging community to stop providing links to the trade sites

Collider.com editor-in-chief Steven Weintraub called for the boycott, which has been joined by Moviehole.net, Latino Review, ScreenRant.com, IESB.net, Bloody-Disgusting.com and FirstShowing.net, after he claimed Variety picked up what he says was his scoop about a sequel to the movie "300." While acknowledging that much of the news found on the blogs comes from Variety and HollywoodReporter.com, MovieBlog.com writes: "So here's an ironic thing. Many traditional media outlets will often belittle and criticize the new emerging online movie community for not having explicit codes of etiquette and conduct ... and yet now many of them are engaging in the violation of this most simple and important rule of GIVING CREDIT."

Publicly, Variety has been dismissive of the boycott. "Print still holds its own," Variety editor-in-chief Peter Bart told MTV.com. "With all the [Internet change], the circulation of Variety is just where it was 30 years ago."

San Francisco's DeYoung is the only U.S. museum to host a 40-year retrospective of Yves Saint Laurent's work. The exhibit opens in November and will include 120 accessorized outfits. This is after it packs up in Montreal, Canada where it is on display from May 29 through September 2008.

The collection is breathtaking and sheer genius. Structured around four themes, the exhibition develops the revolutionary nature of a body of work that has marked both the past and the present with a new definition of femininity and left a signature that transcends fashion. The display will include 145 accessorized creations belonging to the Fondation Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent, as well as drawings and videos.

The YSL Art Collection also goes up on auction at Christies sometime this year.

Thursday morning on "The View," during a discussion on the N-word prompted by the revelation that Jesse Jackson used the slur in his controversial Fox News tape, Whoopi Goldberg and Elisabeth Hasselbeck had a heated back-and-forth that ended with Elisabeth in tears.

As usual when I read about the issues on The View, I am lost and confused. What is there not to understand about Whoopis' point and why is Elisabeth crying?. I don't agree with Whoopi but the show is called the View. My view is that no-one needs to use diaparaging language on their race or any other race. It is wrong and the continued use of the word does not solve any issues.

If people don't use the "N" word in public, they most certainly will use the word in private. Banning it from public usage will not change the fact that people who feel comfortable enough using the word will ever stop. Take Jesse "Jackass" Jackson for example, after championing the ban on the word, he goes ahead and uses the word to disparage black people.

Bear in mind, that NOBODY, repeat NOBODY has seen or heard this FOX tape which Bill O'Reilly , a Fox host confirms. Is FOX just playing its own disgusting games and getting the whole world riled up for no good reason?

Go figure, this world is hypocritical and pretending everyone is nice and cuddly is not going to help. Dry your eyes, Elizabeth and deal with it. Even Charlie Sheen, called his white wife the "N" word. Last time we checked, she was white.

Elisabeth, there is racism in America. Whoopi then launched into a heated explanation of why black and white America still remain separate: "It isn't balanced, and we would like it to be, but you have to understand, you have to listen to the fact that we're telling you there are issues, there are huge problems that still affect us," she said.

Elisabeth replied, in tears, "When we live in a world where pop culture then uses that term, and we're trying to get to a place where we feel like we're in the same place, where we feel like we're in the same world...how are we supposed to then move forward if we keep using terms that bring back that pain?"

What pain did you ever experience over racism? Boo-hoo! Shut Up! Elizabeth. You can't get Whoopi fired this time. Not like you did Rosie O'Donnell. Sometimes, you wonder if this is the Views attempt to gain ratings, everytime she cries or has a problem with someone, the ratings rise.

Tell it like it is, Whoopi!  The show is called "the View". Hopefully, Elisabeth Hasselbeck will cry for a very long time until nobody really cares anymore.

And it went up to $40k an episode!. How much does Ms. Tyra make??? These guys are laughing all the way to the bank while the girls are left doing "Chilli's" commercials. Remember Mercedes? She's the "Welcome to Chili's girl"

The suit claims Jay earned a total of $405,000 for his "work" on the show but Thruline Entertainment, Inc., got nothing. As his manager, they claim to be entitled to 10%, $40,500.00.

ANYA SIGNED BY ELITE

Yaaay! Finally, some of the girls are working and not at Walgreens.  Anya Rozova, who went by Anya Kop on the last season of America's Next Top Model, signed with Elite Model Management on Friday. She may have come in second on the show, behind Whitney Thompson, but she's scored a spot on the agency's development board. Booker Jose Covarrubias says the agency asked for her after the show ended. And she came to them with her natural shade of brown hair.

What took them so long to sign her? She was obviously the standout in the group but a plus sized model had to win this year. Timing is everything.

COSTUME NATIONAL's creative director Ennio Capasa has chosen MySpace to recruit the models for the fashion house's autumn/winter 2008-9 C'N'C campaign.

According to Fashion Week Daily, twelve diverse people were chosen by Capasa for a shoot with photographer Stefan Ruiz in Queens, New York.

Of MySpace, Capasa told reporters: "Social networking is one of the most interesting phenomena today on the Internet. It represents the great change and dynamism of a society that is increasingly a compulsive consumer of communication and contacts."

Move over ladies, starting from September, there will be some new faces in town.

What a sad day in Canada. The Hudson Bay is no more!  The Hudson's Bay Co. has been bought by the owner of  American department store chain Lord & Taylor, which plans to expand its brand into Canada and give a fresh approach to both the Bay and Zellers.

HBC, which has a 338-year history that contributed to the exploration and development of large parts of Canada, has been under American ownership since 2006, when it was bought for $1.1 billion by entrepreneur Jerry Zucker.

Since Zucker's death in April, there had been speculation that HBC would be sold.

The buyer, New York-based NRDC Equity Partners, plans to give HBC operations a major facelift that will expand on the behind-the-scenes work that Zucker had initiated..

NRDC launched a similar plan in 2006 when it acquired the Lord & Taylor group for $1.2 billion in cash and took a bottom-up approach to reworking the image of the company.

NRDC also owns Fortunoff jewellery stores and Creative Design Studios home-decor chain.

The value of the deal hasn't been publicly disclosed, but representatives for the Bay and NRDC have said it's "slightly" higher than the initial sale price of $1.1 billion two years ago.

The combined company, to be known as the Hudson's Bay Trading Co., has 75,000 employees and annual sales totalling more than US$8 billion.

Richard Baker, a principal with the new owner, becomes CEO of Hudson's Bay Trading Co. and 38th governor of the Hudson's Bay Co. He said NRDC will make a new investment of $500 million in the project.

"In Canada, the Bay has not had to deal with a lot of competition so we believe they haven't been as aggressive and focused on service and price and the quality and selection of the merchandise as they could be," Baker said.

With the plan, the Bay could wind up having several stores, such as a Lord & Taylor location or Fortunoff jewelry store under its roof

"Many of the (existing) stores are oversized and we think that by bringing in other brands within the box we can make the stores more efficient," Baker said.

Maybe finally, the beginning of good shopping in Canada.

THE art collection of Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé is to be sold in Paris by Christie's auction house.

Saint Laurent died last month, aged 71. He and Mr. Bergé, who co-founded the Yves Saint Laurent couture house in 1961, amassed a collection of artworks that is believed to be worth as much as $599 million, according to the Art Newspaper.

After the legendary designer's death at the beginning of June, Berge told WWD that he intended to auction the collections, and now it could be as soon as February next year, with half the proceeds going to the Yves Saint Laurent and the Pierre Bergé Foundation and the other to Berge, who was joined with Saint Laurent in a civil ceremony shortly before his death.

With everything from works by Matisse and Goya and furniture from Eileen Gray and Pierre Chareau at Saint Laurent's Rue de Babylone residence to the Renaissance pieces at Berge's Paris apartment.

The specific date and contents of the sale have yet to be announced, London-based Christie's said.

From July 16 – 20, 2008, as fashion once again takes hold of Berlin, Germany’s capital will experience yet another premiere – the first Showroom-Mile in Berlin’s fashionable Mitte district.

This year’s launch will allow everyone to experience the Berlin Fashion Week first hand. Companies will host designers and their collections; art galleries will enter into innovative and interdisciplinary collaborations; fashion will engage with traditional Berlin royal porcelain; and Berlin fashion schools will show off the work of their best students and create exciting projects.

Among those showing their collections today are Suzana Peric and Sisi Wasabi, while tomorrow collections from the likes of Eastpak and former Fashion Fringe winners Basso & Brooke.

 Now into its third season, more than 20 national and international designers will showcase their spring/summer 2009 collections throughout the four-day event which, opened by ecological fashion label LAC ET MAL this morning, will be closed by Vivienne Westwood Anglomania on Sunday evening.

On Friday, 11th July 2008, the musical concert in Abuja took place with musical performances from Jay-Z, Usher, Rihanna along with local artistes. Aside from a few misshaps, the show started late and some event cancellations, we hope to see more of these kinds of events and haope they will be more fine tuned in the future.

Naomi Campbell ,Chris Brown, Mary J, Usher and some other celebrities planted trees in Nigeria’s Capital - Abuja for environment conservation in Africa.  

Oswald Boateng, Tyson Beckford, Alek Wek, Oluchi , Fat Joe were among the stars at the star studded event. Naomi attended an orohanage as well as a fashion show in Lagos, Nigeria.

The event is put together by This day. THISDAY is set to revolutionise the way awareness is raised for African issues through the annual Thisday Festival. This year's festival with the theme 'Africa Rising' will focus on finding "sustainable solutions" rather than the "problems" facing Africa.

Following the overwhelming success of the festival, now in its third year, Nigerian media mogul Nduka Obaigbena is taking his brain-child cross-continent with scheduled events in Abuja, July 11, Lagos, July 13, Washington DC, August 1, and London, October 14. Okay, this stuff is not that important in the whole stream of life but it sure is a good diversion when the Huffington Post, the New York Observer and more focus on Sarah Jessica Parkers mole and actually devote time and space to talk about it.
Did she or did she not remove her mole? In the history of showbiz, we think this is the one woman who has endured more than her fair share of bashing for her looks.

There's nothing wrong with Sarah Jessica Parker that couldn't be cured by wart-removal surgery. That growth on her face just gets bigger with every close-up, and in the full-length movie version of Sex and the City it's so distracting you can't concentrate on anything else. It's not a beauty mark. I guess you can't tell a co-producer anything, but listen up, girl. At this point, you would make a wonderful Halloween witch.
