Will Smith and Jada Pinkett were getting there out in the public freak on last night at the premiere of "The Women" in Westwood, CA. Will Smith's brother Harrry and Jada's mother showed up at the event and took some photos. Genes are strong. Eva Mendes hit the carpet looking herself nothing spectacular.

The frenzy of a runway show can boggle the mind of even a Bryant Park veteran, so for Fashion Week newcomer Julie Haus, organization is key.

Select shoppers and celebs already know the designer. Her clothes sell in department stores and are snatched up by fans such as Vanessa Williams, Leighton Meester and Eva Mendes. In past seasons, 34-year-old Haus and her business partner and husband, Jason Alkire, arranged intimate presentations for fashion editors post-Fashion Week. This year, they wanted to show when every style-hound in New York City turns his or her attention to the latest runway discoveries.

"It's still a steppingstone process," says Haus. "It's 200 people. We're not showing to 400 or 500 people ... but we wanted to make it more timely."

Tomorrow afternoon, models will strut Haus' latest in a show at Gary's Loft, an airy event space on W. 36th St. But the prep work started long before the tents were flooded with fashion fixtures.

Calvin Klein's new fragrance, Secret Obsession, is on the shelves. More than a seductive and floral oriental perfume, its new advertising campaign featuring Eva Mendes seems to create buzz in the media. Its very torrid and sexually exposed side steams controversy.

I actually like this new ad and am seduced to buy the perfume without even having smelled it. The black and white tone and Mendes' natural and sexy charm gives the original burnt orange bottle an image of mystery and seduction. I also believe the position of the bottle and its shape also creates a subliminal effect... Thoughts?

1. Stiff fabric - stands out from the body and adds unnecessary volume - especially the two tiers around the hips.

3. Strange top stitching detail draws attention to the unflattering elements of this dress.

Boy meets girl. Boy's father gets sick. Boy sells soul to the devil. Boy sacrifices future with girl to save father. Boy becomes devil's bounty hunter. Boy saves the day. This is the story of Ghost Rider!

PLOT:

In the days of the American Old West, Mephistopheles (Peter Fonda) sent his bounty hunter of the damned, the Ghost Rider, to retrieve a contract for a thousand corrupt souls from the town of San Venganza. Because such a large amount of souls would cause Hell on Earth if taken on by one demon, the Rider refused to give the contract — and therefore, the souls — to Mephistopheles; instead, he outran Mephistopheles and hid himself and the contract.

A century and a half later, Mephistopheles reaches out to seventeen-year-old stunt motorcycle rider Johnny Blaze (Matt Long/Nicolas Cage), offering to cure his father's lung cancer in exchange for Johnny's soul. Johnny inadvertently signs the contract when a drop of his blood lands on it. His father's cancer is cured, but he dies that same day in a horrific bike crash. Johnny accuses Mephistopheles of causing his father's death, but Mephistopheles just considers their contract fulfilled. Years later, Johnny has become a stunt rider famous for walking away from crashes unharmed.

During his next stunt, Johnny meets his childhood sweetheart Roxanne (Raquel Alessi/Eva Mendes), now a journalist, and holds a dinner date with her that evening. At the same time, Blackheart (Wes Bentley), Mephistopheles' son, comes to Earth to find the lost contract and use its power to overcome his father. He calls forth the fallen angels known as the Hidden, a trio of demon spirits who represent three of the four elements — the water elemental Wallow (Daniel Frederiksen), the earth elemental Gressil (Laurence Breuls), and the air elemental Abigor (Mathew Wilkinson) — to act as his allies. In response, Mephistopheles makes Johnny the new Ghost Rider, offering Johnny his soul in return for defeating Blackheart. Johnny confronts Blackheart at a train station where the contract was once buried, and kills Gressil while the others escape. On his way out, he uses his 'Penance Stare', a supernatural ability which sears the pain of all whom a person has harmed into the wrongdoer's soul, on a mugger, leaving the man catatonic.

The next day, Johnny wakes up in a cemetery chapel, where he meets a man called the Caretaker (Sam Elliott), who seems to know all the history of the Ghost Rider. When he arrives home, Johnny finds Roxanne and tries to explain his situation, which is why he missed their date. She leaves in anger and disbelief at his tale. The police arrive and take Johnny into custody for his connection to the damage done to the city and the deaths caused by Blackheart. He transforms into Ghost Rider in the cell and escapes to track down Blackheart. He fights and kills Abigor, in full view of Roxanne and much of the police force. Observing the scene after obtaining the location of the contract, Blackheart realizes that Roxanne is Johnny's weakness.

Johnny goes for advice to the Caretaker, who tells him of his predecessor, Carter Slade, a Texas Ranger who was a man of honor before his greed placed him before the gallows for his misdeeds. Slade made a deal with Mephistopheles to break free; in return, Slade became the Ghost Rider who hid the contract of San Venganza. The Caretaker then warns Johnny to stay away from those whom Blackheart and the fallen angels can use against him. This advice is too late; Johnny returns home to find that Blackheart already has Roxanne. During their resulting fight, Johnny finds that his Penance Stare has no effect on Blackheart, who has no (human) soul. Blackheart threatens to kill Roxanne if Johnny does not deliver the contract to him.

Johnny returns to the Caretaker to obtain the contract. Though reminded of the consequences, Johnny asks the Caretaker to trust him. The Caretaker then reveals that he is Carter Slade, having held on to his last bit of power in expectation of this moment. He informs Johnny that God is on his side because he made his deal with Mephistopheles because of love rather than greed or desperation, and shows Johnny the way to San Venganza. They ride together into the desert in Ghost Rider form. They stop a short distance from the town, and Slade gives Johnny his shotgun and the warning to "stick to the shadows" before fading away.

After killing Wallow, the last of the Hollow, Johnny gives the contract to Blackheart. He quickly transforms into Ghost Rider in an effort to subdue Blackheart, but dawn comes and he is rendered powerless. Blackheart uses the contract to absorb the 1,000 souls into his body, taking the name "Legion." Legion is now more than a match for Johnny, but is distracted when Roxanne uses Johnny's discarded shotgun to separate them. After she fruitlessly fires off its remaining ammunition, Johnny takes the gun and moves it into the shadows. This allows him to create a "hellfire shotgun" to blast Legion apart. Legion reforms, but Johnny moves in and uses his Penance Stare, made effective by the thousand souls inhabiting Legion's body, to render him catatonic. Johnny turns away from Roxanne, ashamed of his monstrous appearance, but she shows him that she is not afraid of what Johnny has become.

Mephistopheles appears and gives Johnny his soul, offering to take back the curse of the Ghost Rider. Johnny refuses, saying that he will use his power against Mephistopheles, and against all harm that comes to the innocent. Infuriated of being robbed of the power, Mephistopheles vows to make Johnny pay, to which Johnny in response recites his favorite saying: "You can't live in fear." Mephistopheles then disappears, taking Blackheart's body with him. Johnny and Roxanne share some parting words at the tree on which Johnny carved "J&R FOREVER" at the beginning of the film. Roxanne then tells Johnny that he got his second chance before sharing a final kiss with him. Johnny then rides away on his motorcycle, now a legend in his own right. The film concludes with a rendition of the song "Ghost Riders in the Sky".

REVIEW:

As an avid comic reader back in the day, I must admit that I wasn't too familiar with Ghost Rider until a friend of mine let me read one of his in exchange for one of my Flash comics. It was worth the trade. This move lives up to the comic, which is something Marvel movies seem to do better than those that come out of the DC universe.

The movie starts off a bit slow for my taste. Ghost Rider himself could have been designed better, and they mixed origins, but other than, I have no complaints with the film.

Of course, there was the scene where the cops accused Johnny Blaze of killing everyone and arrested him, proving how paranoid and stupid cops are.

some people didn't care for Nicholas Cage in this role. I'm a little torn. I understand why they didn't want him, but at the same time, I think he did pretty good with it. for once it was good to see someone playing a role that they actually grew up on.

Sam Elliot brings his A game as the Caretaker. I just which he would have had more screen time, but what can you do, right?

A sequel has been greenlit. Don't know if it'll get made or be held up in limbo like the Daredevil sequel. Time will tell!

5 out of 5 stars

Aired on the Hot30 Countdown, Thursday 28 August 2008 at the Sydney launch party of the 30 Days of Fashion and Beauty Festival.

I also had quick seperate chats with Jade MacRae, Lara Bingle and Jennifer Hawkins.

There's always room for improvement plus I definitely need to work on my banter.

But hey, I guess not everyone gets to lay claim that their first was with one of the world's sexiest women.

Eva Mendes is a beautiful woman. And she usually looks incredible in just about everything she pulls over her body. I just don't know what to say about this dress though. It looks like it is literally held together with staples. And it does a poor job of decorating her breasts. The saving grace is the high heels. They are very sexy. At least she got that right.

by Seattle (yes, that's my name) Washington

To preface, I'm from the greatest city in the world. For those of you who don't know, don't recognize the cockiness or are just in denial, I'm talking about New York City. Coming from there, I was privileged to see many different races and ethnicities on a daily. However, I recognize there are different perspectives about this topic especially with those from the South and West. I hope that you will share your points of view in the comments section.

Although it would definitely make things easier, most things aren't black and white. Even with a topic like interracial dating, it's often forgotten there are other dating arrangements besides the obvious. There are Brothers and Sisters who date Hispanic, Asian, Indian, Middle Eastern as well as a slew of other ethnic women and men. The weird thing is some of these couples fly under the racial radar, while others get just as many looks as if they were Black/White couple. Case in point...

"It's Cool, She's Spanish"

Hip Hop, urban culture and a close living quarters have allowed people from the West Indies, Africa and the Americas to chop it up. So it was inevitable that Black men started to date Latinas, I mean have you seen them? they're lovely women. Sisters still may get upset that "one of their men" is dating a Latin woman, but she won't be that mad. Why? Well to quote, "She's basically Black." A sweeping generalization seeing that Latin culture is very unique, but our shared African blood and experiences as colored folk in America do give us some commonalities. That may be different in places where Black/Brown relations are stressed or nonexistent, but in NYC and most of the Northeast it's ok for Blacks and Hispanics to date. You'll see them walking all over the Five Boroughs hand in hand, and some Sisters won't even bat an eye. Shoot, that's probably their homegirl anyway.

"Well, They're Not Really a Minority"

No, that's not a statement from Bill O'Reilly. That's the number one reason I've heard uttered by Sisters as to why it's not cool to date Asian women. They don't get the same pass that Hispanic women have. Model Minority status, strained relations from the 90s and separatist attitudes in both cultures may be why. More likely it's because Blacks and Asians just don't chill like Blacks and Hispanics do. When's the last time you saw that kind of clique in the club? If you have, shoot me an email. All that withstanding, Black men and Asian women started to get together at some point. Credit it to Raekwon declaring "You looking good fly colored Asian" on his track "Ice Cream", the original hip hop power couple Russell and Kimora or maybe even Chan and Tucker fighting evil doers on the big screen. Even though it's becoming bigger in the media, don't expect to see Black women smiling at a Brother and his Asian wife playing with their mixed kids. Even if the dude is Dave Chappelle or Tiki Barber.

Don't Know What You've Got Til It's Gone

Some get passes, some don't, but all Brothers who date outside their race have one commonality. An open mind. Which allows them to date for either sheer physical attraction, because that's all they know or for another reason. It being, "I wasn't getting any love from Black women, so f--k it." Sounds harsh, but it's true. I, and countless other guys, have witnessed Black women show no interest in a particular Brother until they see him on the quad walking with some [insert non-Black] woman. And if you are interested, you have a hell of a way of showing it (please reference Sowhatiff's article "Are Black Women Really That Stank?"). To paraphrase a brutally honest friend of mine - Black men are found attractive by women of every race, so if Black women don't want me, f--k it. Who can blame these Brothers. It doesn't take a college education to know that you go where the opportunities are. So if women of other races are showing us love and that leads some of us away from Black women for a few, or forever, so be it. Like they say, those Brothers probably couldn't handle a Sister anyway, right? Riiiiiiight.

So why the double standard ladies? Why do some Brothers get the thumbs up and proverbial pat on the ass for dating a Dominican woman while others get the eye roll when they're seen walking with their Chinese better half? Let me know.

And I'm out!

The Newly Knighted, Sir Washington

Oh, I couldn't leave without shouting out RightCoastLexSteele for putting the battery in our backs to do this Three Part Series. Much respect!

Saucy Cubana Eva Mendes is in Australia as the international face of ACP Magazines' 30 Days of Fashion and Beauty. After working with some of Hollywood's Hottest leading men like Will Smith, Denzel Washington and Johnny Depp she confesses that Russell Crowe is on her radar!

"I really want to work with him," Mendes told fashion editor Jen Melocco. Mendes made no excuses, saying locking lips with her co-stars is one of the perks of the job. "Kissing - it's legal cheating," she joked.

There are a few mysteries in the world, and we may never know the answers. Is there alien life form?

There are a few mysteries in the world, and we may never know the answers. Is there alien life form? How were the pyramids built? Is there really a Santa Claus? And why...oh why!?...do people want to wear maxi-dresses?

I can confidently say that I will *never* wear a maxi-dress. Here's why: I am neither tall nor rail thin. I like McDonald's french fries and dislike running for miles and miles. There's a spectrum between a supermodel in a maxi-dress and a woman wearing a muumuu and using an electric scooter in the local Wal-mart. And I certainly have never been mistaken for a supermodel.

There are a few scenarios where I can relax my anti-maxi-dress stance: 1) on the beach or spa, when it is a cover-up, 2) On a plane, when it is for comfort and ease, or 3.) after major abdominal surgery or during pregnancy, when a waistband is more difficult.

I do not like maxi-dresses as red carpet wear. Imagine some of our best style icons-- Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Coco Chanel, or Jackie O. Would they *ever* wear a maxi-dress? I. Don't. Think. So. And for good reason.

Look at Eva Mendes' recent rendition. First of all, it is a sheer maxi-dress overlay with a fitted corset lining. So this flowy number isn't any more comfortable than a tight-fitting strapless dress. Then we have the color yellow--which I think is the most difficult color in the entire palette to wear. It looks good on virtually no one. And then we have the beads, which remind me of a bad seventies door hanging.

4 Fast 4 Furious

[caption id="attachment_455" align="alignright" width="200" caption="4 Fast 4 Furious"][/caption]

I can't e'em lie, when The Fast & The Furious, starring Vin Diesel and the super sexy Michelle Rodriguez and equally sexy Jordana Brewster, first came out in 2001, I was looking at it like, WTF?! Not being a major car enthusiast, the whole concept was lost on me. I didn't see how the movie could've been any good.

Then I saw it. Oh my sweet buttocks, The Fast & The Furious roxor'd my soxorz. Yeah, yeah, it was Point Break with rice rockets, but the movie itself was surprisingly entertaining and well-made. I had to give propers all around. Of course, a lackluster sequel (without Vin Diesel or the aforementioned ladies) followed, made only bearable by the presence of my future ex-baby mama, Eva Mendes. I never saw the third one, but apparently Vin Diesel's cameo at the end hinted at something great. (Oh, did I just spoil the surprise cameo in Tokyo Drift?)

Well, ladies and gentlemen, get ready for the fourth film in the franchise, simply titled Fast & Furious. All four leads are back, and if that's not enough to convince you, check out the fast, furious trailer after the jump.

What, what! Looks like good times. This bad boy drops June 5th, 2009. I'm there, homie.

Fun fact: Jordana Brewster is Panamanian ... like me! ;)
