I guess I could write a blog about how my week was, or my shopping trip last night, or show you my new designs but I’m not going to. I’m going to post these pictures I took last night; I was alone last night until about 8-ish. Obviously I was trèsbored and the internet was pissing me off (I PMS like a bitch) so I sorted through my makeup box and planned my make up for my debut fashion show (which I don’t know when it’s going to be). After 3 full face make up applications and numerous ‘jabs’ in the eye with my handy mascara wand I finally decided on the ‘glamour’ look. Slightly bronzed face (1 part foundation, 1 part crème bronzer 2 parts moisturizer), bronze/gold eyes (darker on the outer eye gradually fading into light gold), brown smudged eyeliner, white highlighter on the inner corner, not too much mascara, light catching bronze blusher and matte red lipstick with a hint of gloss but not too much. Ok, I look like a complete utter loser in it, but the right face, right clothes (my designs), and right occasion this could be perfect.

Winner of ‘Best Age-Defying Serum’ at the Cosmpolitan Beauty Awards was Estée Laude

Winner of 'Best Age-Defying Serum' at the Cosmpolitan Beauty Awards was Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Protective Recovery Complex. I decided to get my hands on the serum to see if it would get my vote.

I was expecting Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair to be thick, greasy and slimy. The type of serum which works miracles on mature or dry skin but is a nightmare for anything else. Most serums in my bathroom simply have to substitute my moisturiser, otherwise they unleash a battle of pimples across my chin.

Night Repair is different. The smooth textured serum absorbs instantly into my skin and, unlike a few serums I have tried, it doesn't all roll away when I put moisturiser and make-up on. Top marks for practicablity, but what about effictiveness?

The serum claims to repair UV and environmental damage, reducing lines and wrinkles and protecting the skin from further damage. Does it? Well after only a few days of using the serum I can put my hand on my heart and say that my skin already looks better. The skin on my forehead feels more plumped up and less parched, my cheeks are glowing and my skin feels soft.

My complexion is altogether more radiant, nourished and healthy. This little vial of wonder has been given countless awards and it's not hard to see why. At £37, it gets the Beauty Guerrillas seal of approval!

It's been said that if someone truly has a good eye for fashion, they can easily tell the politics of any magazine by simply flipping through its pages.

If this is indeed true, then its safe to say the relationship between a certain glossy and cosmetic giant isn't an unrequited love.

This weekend, Sunday Styles did an analysis of Harper's Bazaar's July issue, for which 40 pages were devoted to the models and celebrities (Carolyn Murphy, Hilary Rhoda, Gwenyth Paltrow, Elizabeth Hurley) who star in Estée Lauder's ad campaign for its new fragrance, Sensuous.

As the article points out, a couple of months ago Nylon played with a similar beauty promotion concept when it placed Chloé's campaign girls on its beauty issue and their ad on the back of its cover.

But this blatant advertising endeavor was very subtle, well-executed, and dare I say kind of cool? However, Hearst's latest project is on the very end of this spectrum, leading beauty industry analyst Allan Mottus to quip, “Boy, they really sold out — Hearst — didn’t they?”

Like every other industry right now, upscale women’s scents are struggling, declining from $2 billion in 2002 to $1.97 billion last year. In part, because young women aren't jocking department store counters for Cool Water and White Diamonds (ugh) like their mothers, aunts, and grandmothers.

But that aside, it'll be interesting to see what other "bold strategies" are birthed during this little recession of ours. Could Gap's collaboration with Colette garner some editorial "prime real estate" come September? Or what about Rei Kawakubo's collection with H & M in November?

Surely, some publication wants to be the first to break those images, no? And are blogs going to be apart of this advertising revolution? Until September...

AMO rímel! E esses eu vou ter que experimentar! A Estée Lauder e a Lancôme vão lançar novas máscaras.

We walked out of that thing carrying much more than we could handle. Everyone we passed on the stree

We walked out of that thing carrying much more than we could handle. Everyone we passed on the streets of New York was making comments, taking pictures and wanting to talk to us. It was a strange night, and it all started when Lindsay invited me to go to the Historic House Trust of New York City.

It was the 20th annual Founders Award Dinner at Gracie Mansion, basically the White House of NYC. The mayor of New York usually resides there, although Mayor Bloomberg does not. He was there though.

It was set up like a wedding, taking place on the gorgeous estate of Gracie Mansion. When we arrived, there was a huge canopied area with tables all set for dinner and people mingling around. Waiters busted about with trays full of tiny spring rolls and grilled cheese (grilled cheese at a fancy evenT? i have no clue.) Some had glasses of white wine.

Tours of the mansion were drawing people inside. The night was a perfect temperature -- rather warm, but with a slight breeze. Not too hot, but definitely summery. You could see the Queensboro Bridge (i think that was the one!) from the front porch, and the water was sparkling behind it.

Dinner started with a caprese salad and bread. We sat at Lindsay's company table. I sat next to L and on the other side a too-tan broker from her firm was trying to talk to me. His trophy wife eyed me with her Botox lips. It was kind of scary, but they were both really nice and asked L and I if we wanted to model in the wife's new photoshoot at their house in the Hampton's. Um, sure!

I didn't know where Bloomberg was because I was on the phone when Lindsay (and our friends Shamica and Mindy) met him. When they announced his name to come up and speak, I realized, as we sat patiently at assigned table #17, we were probably as close as could be to him.

There he is, sitting next to Mrs. Bloomberg.

He was so funny, too! He could have been a standup comedian, you know, funny in the "im giving a speech" kind of way. funny for giving a speech, for sure. very nice man.

The photographer from the New York Sun was taking photos of us, and another photog even got some shots of the 4 of us (Lindsay, me, Shamica, and Mindy) and Bloomie :) (I can call you Bloomie, right Bloomie?)

Lindsay looked so pretty in her dress! and she made it herself!

I bought my dress at a discount store an hour before we got there. It was 80% off!! score!!

So the evening was great. We met the Mayor, danced to fun music, ate a good salad and Strawberry shortcake for desert (the vegetarian "dinner" was nothing but semi-steamed veggies), and left with giftbags.

Oh, the gift bags. Oh man. They were just like you see on VH1 or MTV .. We were walking out, each carrying one of the bouquets of flowers from the tables (they woulda thrown them out anyways!) and then, near the security at the front, they had a table full of gift totes from Estee Lauder/Benjamin Moore (paint).

They had EL lipgloss, sunscreen, a huge bottle of DKNY perfume (for men, aw shucks), paint stuff yay!, and a Cashmire blanket!

I can't wait until Lindsay invites me to the next event. As for the meantime, I'm sure I'll keep myself occupied -- my bff from home, Phillip, is coming into town tomorrow and there's a ton of people i need to catch up with over the weekend.

Hi, I bet y’all are wondering where I have gone. Sometimes I wonder the same thing. I have

Hi, I bet y'all are wondering where I have gone. Sometimes I wonder the same thing. I haven't gone off the deep end. Well at least not completely. I am just taking a rest. From political writing that is. I have been doing some things around the house. Every once in a while I need to send myself to "Happy Camp" to clear my mind. Happy Camp is a place where I can clear my mind and do things I that are not internet related. It is also a place I tell angry people they need to go.

If you are interested, these are some of the things I have been doing. Tuesday, I finally spent my Estée Lauder eCertificate my mom gave me for Christmas. It took most of the day, because I needed to use a credit card to order, even with a gift certificate. I avoid having one. I had to try to call my grandma to see if she would let me use hers. Because the card is not in my name, there was a problem with the company verifying the order. My grandma had to talk to the operator to let them know I was authorized to use it. My order is on it's way now. Last check, on UPS tracking it was in Wyoming, Michigan at 3am. I should be getting today, if not tomorrow. I will be posting more about my experience with ordering from Estée Lauder, regarding sales taxes online, why I choose Estée Lauder for my make-up purchases, etc.

Yesterday I did a bit of organizing and cleaning around the house. Sort of prepping for the Spring Cleaning I never got around to doing. I made a Clorox bomb. Not on purpose, mind you. I know you are not supposed to mix bleach and ammonia. But the cleaner I added the bleach to did not have ammonia in it. I don't know what happened exactly. I poured the bleach into the bottle of Mean Green while it was sitting in the sink and poof, it started bubbling. Damn, it was smelly. My eyes were watering. I ran out of the kitchen, opened all the widows, came back to kitchen, closing my eyes the whole time, ran cold water for about twenty minutes (shut up Al Gore), opened the kitchen window.

Then I went to run errands with a friend. We went to shopping and spontaneously stopped at a garage sale. I bought a cute retro apron. I wanted to buy more, but they were a dollar and I didn't want to spend too much money. I also bought a cheese slicer with a bakelite handle. There was a "free box" I found two popcorn bowls and some kitschy 3-D wall hanging that ya can add a postcard to the back.

Came home and made fish surprise with Pollock that was on sale. Baked a lemon chiffon cake. Didn't have all the ingredients to make any of the frosting recipes. I did have cream and sugar, though. Made a simple whipped cream frosting. To make it look pretty I added raspberries and lemon rind shavings.

Most of ya know my love of Elvis and Rockabilly music. But I also like Frank Sinatra. After I had dinner and dessert, I had two martinis and listened to my Frank Sinatra CD. It was nice to just relax and not do a dang thing.

Today is pajama day. I am lounging around in my kitty jammies drinking coffee. Don't let the pic fool ya, I am NOT preggers. I think it is just the way I was sitting. I may change that pic later. Listening to Radůza, a female singer from the Czech Republic who also plays the accordion and guitar. Making barley bread. I am waiting for the loaf to rise, then I will put it in the oven.

I may get back to blogging tomorrow, or work on some of my sewing projects. I guess only time will tell. It is pretty sad when ya have so much material and projects on hold that there is not even enough room in my sewing dresser for all the material. My email is full to the gill on email blasts of things I have been saving to post about. I think I shall clean out some of the older stuff and pick and choose the most important stuff.

Sparkling. Refreshing. Vibrant. A fragrance that lingers in your senses for hours - www.esteelauder.com

Wet Citrus notes of luscious Bergamot, Orange Zest and White Grapefruit combine with Darjeeling Tea, colorful florals and sheer woods.

Top Notes: Sparkling Breeze Accords
Signature accents comprised of Darjeeling Tea blended with mesmerizing citrus accents of Bergamot, Orange Zest and White Grapefruit suggest a youthful and effervescent freshness. Watery Kumquat enhances the freshness with a modern and delectable fruitiness.

Middle Notes: Vibrant Breeze Accords
The floral heart is a blend of radiant Yellow Freesia petals entwined in Osmanthus, Linden Flowers and a veil of silken Rose petals, to embellish the signature freshness.

Dry Down: Lingering Breeze Accords
Luxurious Teak Wood fused with Cedarwood and a Soft Skin Accord provide sensuality, richness and a lingering impression to the background. A drop of precious Acacia Honey brings a sense of luxurious softness.

I still remember my days of spraying the original white linen into my dryer while drying my bed linens - it leaves a mesmerizing aroma ( hybrid of clean, elegant & sexy scent ) between the sheets.

Unfortunately, pure white linen light breeze had lost these undertones; Its fresh & vibrant, but not chic or sensual enough. If the original white linen is a 400 count egyptian cotton lingered with freshly showered skin accord, pure white linen light breeze would be a polyester sheet laundered with washing power.

Double Wear Light Stay-in-Place Makeup:
- Sheer-to-medium coverage
- Natural finish
- SPF10 protection
- Up to 15-hour's wear

Long-wear makeup is now lightweight makeup. Fresh, natural, comfortable. Goes on sheer, leaves skin free to breathe all day. A liquid foundation that has been formulated to glide on fast, comfortably and evenly for a naturally-sheer, flawless finish that lasts all day – up to 15 hours without fading or transferring – no matter how active the wearer or humid the weather.

Controls oil, resists smudging and won't "melt" off through heat and humidity. For a look that stays vibrant and fresh whether it's a workday, a workout or a weekend. It's makeup that keeps up. Double Wear Light is a “thinking” foundation. It adjusts to each individual’s skin type, keeping moisture levels balanced while controlling excess oil and shine. With additional SPF10 and antioxidant vitamins A, C and E, Double Wear Light also helps provide powerful protection against UV damage and other environmental assaults.

Oil-free. Photo-friendly. Fragrance-free. Non-acnegenic. Dermatologist-tested.

I had been wearing this foundation daily lately, it really gives my skin a velvety veil, helps controlling sebum secretion, covering pores, blurring lines & stays for at least 12 hours without creasing or changing hue. The finish is rather sheer to medium & "camera friendly". This has surpassed the original double wear.

Estée Lauder and Lancome are planning to launch vibrating mascaras. L’Oreal and P&G seem to h

Estée Lauder and Lancome are planning to launch vibrating mascaras. L’Oreal and P&G seem to have their own in the works, too. The inspirations for these mascaras, which require batteries, come from the movements make up artists make with their hands when applying mascara. The vibrations promise to separate lashes, create volume at the base of the lash and provide 360-degree coverage of each lash.

In July, Estée Lauder will be launch TurboLash All Effects Motion Mascara in the US.
The mascara will be applied to lashes with a battery-operated brush that vibrates at 125 micro-pulses per second and is said to make lashes seem fuller.
Elana Drell-Szyfer, senior vice president of global marketing for Estée Lauder, said: "There is a relationship between vibration, length, volume, separation and curl. Together, they deliver an unbelievably enhanced first to market product, which we feel is revolutionary.”
TurboLash All Effects Motion Mascara will be launched on July 17 as a Saks Fifth Avenue exclusive and will be sold for 30$.

Lancôme’s Oscillation mascara is due out in stores this Fall. The brush vibrates 7,000 times per minute and claims to provide 360-degree coverage around each lash. It was created by Jean-Louis Guéret, creator of mascara brushes for Lancôme (he has developed almost 400 mascaras!!) who came up with the idea of the mascara after watching makeup artists at work. While applying mascara, their hands move in a zigzag pattern. So to best emulate the movement, Guéret explained, he conceived a flexible, polymer-based mascara brush that vibrates along its longitude at 7,000 micro-oscillations a second.
Guéret said that, as the mascara brush vibrates against eyelashes, they become “organized” and evenly coated with a mascara formula conceived with ultrafine particles specifically for the product, which also extends, curls, shapes and makes lashes seem thicker.

So, what do you think of these vibrating mascaras? Are you curious or do you feel a little scared you're going to poke yourself in the eye? Are you sticking to your old mascara or are you gonna give this new one a try?

After my Mustang for Men (2) post something interesting happened, and quite frankly something I didn’t expect at all. In this post I wrote about the new Estee Lauder frangrance carrying the Mustang brand, and how I think it’s nice and all but also how I didn’t buy the sales pitch. So to be clear, I wasn’t very impressed.

That changed quickly though and I’ll tell you why. Not even 2 or 3 hours after I posted this, Tracy Royal from Estee left this comment. As a geek marketer that alone impressed me already quite a bit, still today only few brands engage in social media and Estee was definitely not amongst them (at least to what I had seen so far). Anyway, I sent Tracy an email with my address and a week later I received a delivery from Estee:

Now all of this is not very expensive for a company to do but nevertheless it still is very impressive. So what about the fragrance itself? It’s not bad actually. It ain’t extremely special but I don’t think it should be either, I’ll use it. And trust me, if it were shit I would have told you just the same you know, that’s the right I keep to myself on this blog.

So Tracy, you impressed me with your swift reply on my post and the Mustang Blue fragrance is pretty alright, allow me to make one suggestion to you though. I still don’t buy the marketing/PR piece you created, I think it’s too fabricated, it’s not real enough. “The Mustang fragrance had a tremendous reception from Mustang fans as well as others who appreciate the iconic American brand”… don’t say so, show me. And maybe some more pro-active outreach in the online Mustang communities would have been good as well. Anyway, your interaction with me was very real though, and that makes a lot of difference. Respect.

Sarah Schmidt, Canwest News Service

OTTAWA -- Health Canada has found lead in some lipsticks for sale in Canada, but the agency says the levels do not pose a health risk for consumers.

The government decided to test lipsticks after the U.S. group Campaign for Safe Cosmetics released a report last October titled "A Poison Kiss: The Problem of Lead in Lipsticks."

Twenty-one of 26 samples tested at Health Canada's product safety laboratories contained lead levels of 0.079 parts per million to 0.84 parts per million.

One lipstick sample had 6.3 parts per million, while the remainder contained no detectable levels of lead.

The Canadian results were worse than the American study. Of the 33 samples tested in the United States, 13 contained no detectable traces of lead.

In the U.S. tests, the highest lead content found was 0.65 ppm (L'Oreal Colour Riche True Red), in excess of the 0.1 ppm limit for lead in candy established by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The American study prompted the state of California to decide that any lipstick containing five parts per million or more would require a safety-hazard warning to consumers; the state law prohibits companies selling products in California from exposing individuals to chemicals known to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity without a warning label.

Canada, however, uses 10 parts per million as its safety threshold, which is the international standard set by the United States Pharmacopeia for lead impurity for oral products. Health Canada says this standard is "conservative" and "protective of consumers," including younger girls.

Health Canada acknowledges its lipstick tests showed "one anomaly that seems to be higher than the others" at 6.3 parts per million. But even factoring in a margin of error of 2.9, "the sample still met the 10 ppm limit," the department said in a statement.

"It was deemed to be negligible risk and to meet acceptable standards for sale."

Health Canada would not disclose the brands of the samples, citing confidentiality.

Lead and lead compounds, proven neurotoxins, are prohibited ingredients in cosmetics in Canada, but impurities exist in the environment that may be found in the raw materials or be acquired during the manufacturing process.

Colour additives, which are sometimes used to colour lipstick, also contain lead.

Health advocate Carol Secter isn't comforted by government assurances about lead levels in lipstick, pointing to a growing body of scientific evidence suggesting there is no safe level of lead in the blood.

"One application at a very small level is unlikely to cause you any serious harm or no harm at all. But the lead built up in your body doesn't dissipate. And you apply it everyday and many times a day. It's not the one-time exposure that's the problem," said the president of the Breast Cancer Action Montreal who oversees its safe cosmetics campaign.

But Dr. Ray Copes, medical director of environmental health at the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control, said the lead levels found in the lipsticks in the Health Canada tests don't concern him.

"In terms of exposure and health risk, it's hard to get worked up, compared to other sources of lead exposure that are occurring everyday," said Copes, an epidemiology professor at the University of B.C. and a specialist in risk assessment and lead exposure.

"If I was concerned about lead exposure in the population, and we are, I sure wouldn't be looking at lipstick as the most promising place to look to reduce those exposures. I'd be looking at how lead gets into the food supply."

Oulah!!

The only palatable fragrance in the Pleasures series by Estée Lauder in my opinion. Sweet-smelling, powdery. Rather typical of a sweet-smelling fragrance, good but not fantastic.

Something is in the water at Lauder.

I recently sampled two launch products that I absolutely live for and will definitely upgrade to full size when available. As I scribbled down their full product names in my very special notebook detailing beauty refills I need and new products I want to test, it occurred to me -- the products are not exactly what comes to mind when thinking of the Lauder heritage and it's best-selling product lines, nor are the names.

And much like our favorite heroine Carrie Bradshaw, I was left to ponder...

Is someone getting frisky over at 767 Fifth Ave??

What else could explain these highly flirtatious new category entrants that invoke such seductive names?

Could it be office paramours working "after-hours" on the development teams? The lustful appetite of an aging yet insatiable consumer? The need for product daring enough to warrant ultra-sexy images for print advertising?

Ok, maybe just be the overactive imagination of a young blogger staying in on a hot Saturday night and in need of some excitement (in the form of this post)?

Either way...

You need to know about Lauder's AMAZING new fragrance and UNBELIEVABLE new mascara.

Sensuous: Adj. Highly appreciative of the pleasures of sensation. OR, more specifically, Estee Lauder Sensuous Eau de Parfum Spray. An unusual woody amber that attracts like bees to honey. I'm admittedly even attracted to myself when I wear it. I just can't get enough of me! So buy it and fall in love... with yourself to start. (esteelauder.com/sensuous)

Sumptuous: Adj. Luxuriously fine or large; lavish; splendid. OR, more precisely, Estee Lauder Sumptuous Bold Volume Lifting Mascara. The padded bra of mascaras. It gives you the fullness and lift that mama didn't. I have used it on girls who insist they need an eyelash curler only to convert them into believers. It's incredible what can happen once you inject a little drama in your lashes. (www.esteelauder.co.uk, not yet available in USA)
