Last week the girls took advantage of a free community daycamp offered by the city, so I actually ended up having a week where I could go into the office, update the website there, and generally work on a few bits and pieces.  I'm not in the office much in the summer, so it was nice to get a few things done.

This week, we've taken it pretty slow . . . I've been working on getting the house back in order (we had Bible study here this week, plus there's an eMi BBQ here tonight, so that's provided some motivation!), we've had a few play dates, etc. etc.  This is what summer should be like!

Of course, for Kevin, summer is ramping up.  With less than 8 weeks to go to fall trips, recruitment is high on the list of priorities.  For a while, we weren't sure if Kevin was going to the Sudan or D.R. Congo.  It's now confirmed that Kevin will be leading the Congo trip.   I'll get some details for you soon, but for now, here's the eMi project description . . .

g. You have no emergency fund, losing your job is one of the nightmares you go through regularly, one small repair like having to replace your car tyres can create hell for you!

h. you are happy visiting your parents for 10 day vacations because you can save some living expenses

i. if you will touch your parents' kitty for your purchase of car, bike or your marriage expenses

if you have any of the above mentioned problems, you need to set your financial house in order. TODAY.

La un moment dat pe la vreo unu şi ceva mă sună Miloo că or' mai deschis ăştia o sticlă de vin. Clar zic, mă bag în pat. Mă sună ăsta pe la vreo două cum că or terminat şi tot mai merg. Greu m-am hotărât, dar am mers şi eu. Aici show. Ăştia erau toţi băuţi în afara de mine. În Lord's era un rock din ăla agresiv (ha mă Pitic?) şi lume puţină. Eu eram oricum obişnuit, Pitic nu prea. La un moment dat vine Miloo cu ideea să joace darts cu Pitic. Pe scena din Lord's unde îi darts-ul erau câţiva rockeri care dansau agresiv (cum îi zice la shmenu ăla a lor când dansează şi se aruncă unul în altul şi se tot împing?). Nici un impediment însă pentru ai mei care dădeau din săgeţi la 30 de cm de maniacii cu dansu lor. Faza tare e că l-o bătut Pitic pe Miloo rău de tot. Am mai stat până pe la vreo 4 şi somn.

Azi în etapa interemediară pe primul loc Andreea - "bah Gika tot pe spatele lu Pitic vrei sa castigi puncte?", pe doi Gica - "citat din PITIC, ad literam: "Pizda d alordr"" şi pe trei Alexandra T - "How does the London Eye blink?"

So, Los Angeles has approved the building of a new development near the almost iconic Capitol Records building. The condo development, planned for 6230 Yucca Boulevard, was part of some big hubbub earlier this summer. EMI--along with the everpresent Hollywood preservationists--worried that the act of constructing the building, including the planned underground parking garage, would damage the acoustics know for their "Magic Properties."

The developer, Second Street Ventures, agreed to a number of excentric construction conditions not unlike the ones requested by some of the artists who record at the building when performing live.

- First, construction equipment and construction itself will be forbidden after 10 a.m. within 40 feet of the property line in order to make sure any ongoing recording sessions would not be interrupted.

- Second, alternative measures to steel-tracked construction equipment will be put into place.

- Third, there will be a sound baffle that uses a foam liner that will be erected between the property line of Capitol Records and this new underground garage, which will ensure that the echo chambers adjacent to the recording studios are not damaged.

- And finally, seven bottles of Cristal--preferably the 1996 vintage-- and only Green Peanut M&Ms to be placed in their green rooms.
Capital's underground studios have been noted for their "natural reverb." The magical music banks have hosted some very legendary recordings from the likes of Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole as well as The Beach Boys and Green Day.

On Sunday, we headed out to Linden on the invitation of Kevin's Uncle & Aunt. They organize the services at the Seniors Lodge there, and invited us to speak. We weren't quite sure how to tailor our presentation to this audience . . . but it went really well. (And the kids did okay too!! They had to sit quietly all by themselves, since both Mom & Dad were up front . . . we worried about how they'd do in their sleep-deprived state :) ). We shared about Niger, and the hope that we saw there . . . as well as more generally about how eMi helps in designing a world of hope.

We also got to set up our booth and share for a few minutes in the service of the MB church right afterwards. I'm not sure if there were any engineers in the service . . . but God always seems to use these presentations in his own ways. Whether someone passes the information on to a son or a daughter, or whether it just serves to broaden someone's perspective on what missions is . . . it's definitely worth the time and the effort!

This week should be a bit quieter. The girls are involved in a kids program this week, so I might even get a chance to head into the office for a few hours . . .

Paranteză: M-am enervat foarte tare acuma seara pentru că am realizat dinnou că Oradea/România este un mare MALL. Am vrut să elaborez pe subiectul ăsta, dar m-a chemat natura, adică baia mică. Baia mică RULEZ! Întrebaţi-l pe Miloo! E un punct, unde indiferent că trebuie să mergi la şuşu (citat Andreea), sau la cachiţi (citat tot Andreea), tot stai jos atunci când eşti obosit/beat/rupt/mangă/copt/lemn/ accidentat (etc...), că te rezemi de shmenu ală cu capu'  şi pe moment îţi trec problemele (dacă n-ai fost la mine acasă nu eşti prietenul meu şi nu ştii despre ce vorbesc - aşa că hai o dată şi afli).

Revin: Am terminat cu baia mică, dar am observat o ramă de poză (goală fără poză în ea) şi mi-am amintit că am primit-o cadou. Pe ramă scrie "Om simplu, pe gustul tuturor!". De aia am zis că decât să-mi descarc nervii pe nush ce ţăran, care toată viaţa lui o'să-mi dea subiecte de post-uri, mai bine fac un top 5 al cadourilor primite (nu ca valoare, ci ca şi valoare sentimentală, sau ca şi surpriză). M-am gândit mai mult, adică până cand am scris ce am scris până amu, şi am zis ca nu bag cu locuri. Doar primele 5. Le-am notat în excel şi am dat să ordoneze după nume. Iată clasamentul:

Ştiu că nu te interesează, dar data viitoare când o să fie ziua ta şi o să vină un om la tine cu un cadou simplu şi la subiect, sper să te simţi mai bine decât cu cadoul ăla de 20 de lei pe cap, care se dau să îţi iei tu ce-ţi doreşti.

Revenim la treburi serioase:
