Como a temporada já acabou, decidi pesquisar um pouco sobre a quantas anda a carreira das garotas que participam desses reality shows, e fiquei um pouco surpresa com a falta de informações sobre o que aconteceu depois com elas. Conseguiram bons contratos com agências? Subiram em alguma passarela? Estamparam algum editorial? As respostas são bastante escassas.

El CICPC está a la espera de que un tribunal de Control emita la orden de Captura para aprehender al psiquiatra Edmundo Chirinos, por su presunta vinculación con el homicidio de la estudiante de Comunicación Social Roxana Vargas Quintero, de 19 años de edad, quien apareció muerta en un terreno baldío en la urbanización Parque Caiza, el lunes de la semana pasada.

Los investigadores de la División Contra Homicidios de la policía científica solicitaron la medida después de realizar allanamientos en el apartamento y el consultorio del psiquiatra, donde recolectaron varias evidencias que lo vinculan directamente con el caso. En cuanto a la posible ubicación del principal sospechoso, una fuente ligada con la investigación señaló que no existe ningún peligro de fuga, pues a pesar de que actualmente el galeno no se encuentra en su domicilio principal, las autoridades saben con precisión dónde ubicarlo.

No descartan que la detención se produzca en poco tiempo, pues todas las investigaciones realizadas hasta los momentos apuntan a que el galeno sería el presunto responsable de la muerte de Vargas Quintero y se corroboraría la hipótesis del homicidio pasional que manejaban los investigadores desde el principio.

Extraoficialmente se supo que la prueba de luminol, para verificar la presencia de rastros de sangre, realizada en el consultorio de Chirinos el lunes por la mañana, dio positiva. Además, los investigadores informaron que en el lugar también fueron halladas algunas pertenencias que se supone son de la joven asesinada.

Gilma de Guarín, ama de llaves de la residencia de Chirinos, expresó a través del intercomunicador, que el lunes a las 5:00 pm se presentaron al lugar cinco funcionarios del Cicpc acompañados de los abogados del psiquiatra y revisaron el apartamento. Dijo que los funcionarios se llevaron algunos objetos de la casa, en una bolsa plástica. “No creo que el doctor tenga nada que ver con lo que dicen”, dijo la empleada.

Asimismo, la secretaria del consultorio psiquiátrico, quien prefirió no identificarse, informó que el Chirinos no ha vuelto a la clínica desde el jueves de la semana pasada. La joven que atiende en la recepción dijo que hasta los momentos no han recibido ninguna instrucción de suspender las citas que tiene pautadas el psiquiatra hasta el próximo 27 de agosto.

Am witzigsten ist das immer wieder verwendete Wörtchen "überraschend". "Überraschend" für wen?

Currently I’m letting my family fight in Jezebel Glen in order for them to get to level 32 so that I can start attempting Brunie’s card. So, while they’re doing that, I thought I’d start a new series of articles which won’t be posted on a regular basis (basically I’ll post them when I write them, not every week on a certain day).

The title of this series is “My Thoughts On...” followed by whatever I am talking about. What I discuss doesn’t have to be new, just something worth talking about.

As you can see, the topic of this post is elite monsters. So let’s dive right into it!

Elite monsters are basically tougher and larger versions of a specific monsters. For example, the Barrel Octopus has an elite version of itself:

Elite monsters were once a novelty. One or two would spawn every 10 minutes or so. Nothing bad, easily manageable. However, in a recent update of Sword of the New World we saw this change. Anywhere and everywhere monsters are, about 25% of them comprise of elite monsters now. Wow that’s a lot. And to make things worse, they respawn every 30 seconds to a minute.

Elite overload!

I was pretty shocked when I came back to the game and found it extremely hard to level in some areas due to the sheer amount of elites. I oftentimes had not only 10 normal monsters swarming me, but three of their elites also surrounding me. That is a big pain in the arse to take down.

However, alas I see the reason behind the number of elites: it helps prevent AFK leveling and botting. I have mostly been active leveling thus far due to this and have only seen one bot in the process. So, for that I say the elite’s are good. Some people my like afk leveling, but I find that it degrades the value of playing SotNW.

I may have trouble dealing with the elite’s, but they’re fun to take down since I can’t 1-to-2-hit them like I can most monsters.

Desde luego muchos no llegan a la elite porque no les da el talento, pero debemos ser conscientes de que hay otros con aptitudes para paladear las mieles del primer  nivel que, por factores ajenos a él y en muchas ocasiones por acciones malintencionadas, se quedan por el camino, dándole más al deporte de lo que jamás recibirán a cambio.

Esta es una reflexión sin solución, entiendo que el ser humano es así, pero nunca está de más que quienes queremos al deporte como a nuestro mejor amigo recordemos, de vez en cuando, a aquellos que en vez de disfrutarlo, como hacemos el resto, lo sufren.

Ukrainian developer Deep Shadows have released a bonkers video for their forthcoming mix-tape game The Precursors, which I've been keeping an eye on for a while now. Check it out:

Restraint clearly isn't a word in Deep Shadows' vocabulary. There appears to be a mix of at least four genres here - shooter, role-playing, driving and space combat - none of which normally end up in the same game. It's wildly ambitious, especially for a relatively new and small developer that made a rather dubious debut with the equally free-for-all and unfortunately bug-ridden Boiling Point in 2005. The sceptic in me knows that this will be a complete mess of a game, compromising each of its component genres in order to make a lifeless whole that is far less than the sum of its parts.

Then again, The Precursors has the potential of fulfilling a gaming dream. When Elite came out in the 80s, we immediately wanted to land on planets. When Frontier came out, we wanted to get out of the ship and walk about. Then Doom came along and started the first-person revolution. The Grand Theft Autos have shown that on-foot and vehicle gameplay can be melded together seamlessly. What remains is the ultimate, inevitable goal: an Elite style space game that enables you to arrive on a planet, enter its orbit, land and exit your vehicle to walk around its surface. Preferably all without a loading screen.

Whether Deep Shadows accomplish anything anywhere near that lofty ideal isn't terribly important. The crucial thing, no matter what Yoda says, is that someone is trying. There's something about eastern European developers that is exciting and unpredictable - The Witcher and STALKER were both incredible games; flawed and slightly wobbly but overflowing with fresh ideas and imagination. The likes of Boiling Point and Call of Juarez weren't as successful by a long way but still contained innovative concepts that western developers seem unwilling to examine.

So: bonkers, yes. But The Precursors is worth keeping an eye on.

Professor Hettlage hat nie viel Aufhebens um seine Person gemacht, für ihn stand und steht stets die Sache im Vordergrund. Daher soll an dieser Stelle weniger von ihm, sondern vielmehr von einer Sache die Rede sein, die man von ihm lernen konnte. Nur nebenbei sei erwähnt, dass Herr Hettlage Generationen von Studenten für die Soziologie gewonnen und zum soziologischen Denken inspiriert hat; dass er in seinen zahlreichen Publikationen Quantität stets mit Qualität zu vereinen wusste; und dass mit ihm ein von Studierenden und Mitarbeitern höchst geschätzter Lotse von Bord der Regenburger Soziologie geht, die nun im Sinken begriffen ist (aber das ist eine andere Geschichte).

Professor Hettlage hat nie den Elitebegriff für sein Institut oder die Ausbildung an seinem Institut in Anspruch genommen. Dennoch habe ich nach den Jahren meines Studiums an der Universität Regensburg das Gefühl, zusammen mit all den anderen Kommilitonen bei Herrn Hettlage eine wirklich elitäre Förderung genossen zu haben.

Ich selbst habe an vier Universitäten studiert, von denen drei sehr wohl mit einem elitären Anspruch antraten. Die Universität Passau, an der ich einst mit dem Studium der Volkswirtschaftslehre mit kulturwirtschaftlichem Schwerpunkt antrat (dem sog. "kleinen KuWi") rekrutiert(e) nur die Besten der Besten. Wer dort Kulturwirt studieren will, kommt ohne die 1,0 im Abitur kaum an die Hochschule, nur etwas besser sieht es in Betriebswirtschaft und Jura aus (Dass die "Besten" nicht unbedingt durch Abiturnoten gefunden werden können, ist wiederum eine andere Geschichte).

Uns Studierenden wurde dort von Anfang an vermittelt, dass wir zur Elite gehörten und etwas Besonderes seien. Dass die meisten Seminare aber hoffnungslos überfüllt waren und man sich teilweise um 5 Uhr morgens vor den Fakultätsbüros anstellen musste, um noch einen der 80 Plätze in einem Seminar zu ergattern, führte diese Rethorik ad absurdum (wie es heute in Passau aussieht, kann ich nicht beurteilen). Was das Passauer Elitekonzept noch ein bisschen rettete war die hohe Auslandsorientierung und für die Kulturwirte - wenn ich mich recht erinnere - ein obligatorisches Auslandsjahr.

Wer die Humboldt-Uni zu Berlin von innen gesehen hat, weiss, wie eine Elitenausbildung sicherlich nicht aussehen sollte. An der SoWi-Fakultät findet sich zwar ausgezeichnetes Lehr- und Forschungspersonal und auch von den dortigen Kommilitonen, deren Sachverstand und rethorischen Geschick war ich sehr beeindruckt. Doch auch hier war und ist das Verhältnis von Lehrern zu Schülern nicht weniger als eine Katastrophe. Eine Beschränkung der Klassengrößen wurde teilweise aus ideologischen Gründen abgelehnt, nur einige wenige wagten diesen pragmatischen, für eine gute Ausbildung aber so notwendigen Schritt. Von der Bibliotheksausstattung der HU will ich an dieser Stelle gar nicht schreiben, ich habe keinen Kommilitonen getroffen, der nicht regelmäßig auf die benachbarte StaBi auswich.

Die University of Edinburgh hingegen erfüllte ihr Elite-Versprechen: kleine Klassengrößen, eine gute Betreuung, ein exzellentes Verhältnis von Lehrern zu Studierenden, eine Bibliothek, die wenig zu wünschen übrig ließ, eine wohl selektierte, internationale Studentenschaft, eine große Auswahl an Kursen, ein gut organisiertes Studentenleben... Ich könnte die Liste fortsetzen, müsste aber in jedem Falle mit dem Satz enden: Aber das ist Großbritannien und eine ihrer führenden Unis.

Wie ist eine hervorragende Ausbildung (nichts anderes verstehe ich in diesem Artikel unter Elite) an einer durchschnittlichen Universität in Deutschland mit begrenzten Mitteln möglich? Professor Hettlage hatte stets ein Merkmal, das ihn von allen anderen Lehrern hervorhob, denen ich begegnet bin: Er hatte stets Zeit für seine Studierenden. Wollte man Herrn Hettlage sprechen, so fragte man bei Frau Schubert, der Sekretärin und guten Seele des Instituts, um einen Termin. "Reicht Ihnen eine halbe Stunde oder wollen Sie lieber eine ganze?", so die routinemäßige Nachfrage.

Die vielen Stunden, die ich und unzählige andere Studierende im Laufe der Jahre und Jahrzehnte mit Herrn Hettlage verbrachten, waren soziologischer Einzelunterricht, ein studienbegleitender Intensivkurs zu den Themen, die einen gerade beschäftigten. Herr Hettlage war stets ein wissensreicher und inspirierender Gesprächspartner, der zu den allermeisten Themen tatsächlich auch Wertvolles zu sagen hatte. Betreuung wurde so zur Intensivbetreuung, die Art der Förderung kann nicht anders denn als elitär bezeichnet werden.

Wie bereits eingangs erwähnt, war Herr Hettlage trotz alledem stets ein fleißiger Publizist, und so fragt man sich dann auch, wo er diese Zeit eigentlich gefunden hat und wie er Beides unter einen Hut bringen konnte. Er wird dieses Geheimnis mit sich in seinen Ruhestand nehmen.

Elite bzw. eine exzellente Ausbildung hat viele Facetten. In diesem Artikel wurden einige erwähnt, weitere finden sich in den diversen Debatten um das Thema. Der Kontakt des Professors zu den Studierenden bzw. die Intensität und die Zeit, die er oder sie sich für Fachgespräche mit den Auszubildenden nimmt, werden jedoch nur selten zum Thema gemacht. Dennoch ist dies ein Faktor, den man - so denke ich - nicht überbewerten kann.

Warum sollten etwa Universitäten ihren leitenden Angestellten nicht vorschreiben können, dass sie z.B. acht Stunden pro Woche der Intensivbetreuung ihrer Schüler widmen müssen? Dies wäre mit Sicherheit eine enorme Stärkung der universitären Lehre und würde nicht zuletzt das Humboldt'sche Ideal der Einheit von Lehre und Forschung wiederbeleben (wenn auch die Gefahr nicht übersehen werden darf, dass dies auf Kosten der Forschung gehen könnte). Dass dies sehr wohl möglich ist und keineswegs Defizite an anderer Stelle hervorbringen muss, hat Herr Hettlage stets eindrucksvoll bewiesen. Dafür sei ihm an dieser Stelle nochmals herzlichst gedankt. Das gesamte Team von homo sociologicus wünscht Herrn Hettlage einen "Guten Rutsch" in den wohlverdienten Ruhestand und freut sich auf weitere soziologische und andere Gespräche, die mit Sicherheit nicht lange auf sich warten lassen werden.

It’s not surprising that it took me so long to discover the extent of my miseducation, because the last thing an elite education will teach you is its own inadequacy. As two dozen years at Yale and Columbia have shown me, elite colleges relentlessly encourage their students to flatter themselves for being there, and for what being there can do for them. The advantages of an elite education are indeed undeniable. You learn to think, at least in certain ways, and you make the contacts needed to launch yourself into a life rich in all of society’s most cherished rewards. To consider that while some opportunities are being created, others are being cancelled and that while some abilities are being developed, others are being crippled is, within this context, not only outrageous, but inconceivable.
