I am hoping I can put the boys back together soon. They were fighting a bit much, so I separated them.

The cages I have:

1 aquarium, for babies/pregnant moms (I say the S but really only one will be in there at a time.) This is where everyone but the boys are. (Mom and babies.)
1 small cage, for anyone that needs taken to town and such (not big enough to live in.)
2 medium cages, one for males, one for young females (at this time Lionel and Dumbo are in there.)
1 large cage, for females after they are to old to breed and/or between breedings.

So the boys need to get along, I don't have any place else for more cages (I will not do those tiny breeding cages, I just won't. I figure I am using them enough without adding those small cages too.

They are the following (I will try to supply pictures at a later date.) Babies in italics.

Males
Lionel: Standard - Marked/White with Grey Mask
Dumbo: Dumbo - SELF/Russian Blue
Autumn: Standard - Marked/White with Grey Hood

Females
Cookie: Standard - Marked/White with Grey Mask
Summer: Standard - SELF/Champagne (black eyes - off standard)
Winter: Standard - SELF/black eyed white
Monkey: Standard - SELF/black

Others (as in not getting attached, not staying.)
Devil: Standard - Marked/White with Grey Mask
Devilin: Standard - Marked/White with Grey Mask
Baby: (still hairless)

Pairs:
Dumbo X Cookie
Dumbo X Winter
Lionel X Summer
Lionel X Monkey

Here is a story of how I almost didn't make it all the way to PhD. Before entering primary school, it was mandatory (I guess it still is) that each child was examined by a psychologist to determine if he/she was ready to go to school and "fit" to go to "regular" school. I almost ended in a school with adapted learning programme because of a circus related incident.
At one point during the interview, the psychologist asked me which animals fly.
My answer was immediate: "Elephant!".
She was stunned. After recovering from the initial amazement, she continued to probe me: "What do you mean an elephant? Elephants don't fly."
"Yes they do."
"C'm on, elephants cant fly."
"Yes they can. The one that a crow gave a feather to does".
The answer further aggravated the lady and my mother apparently spent most of the remaining interview time convincing the baffled psychologist that I was really referring to the elephant Dumbo from the Disney book I loved so much at the time. My mother says that when we left, the psychologist was still not fully convinced.
Serves me right for reading capitalist propaganda pamphlets. Wonder what would Dorfman and Mattelarts have to say about this :)
My mother also told me that she only took me to a circus once - I was terrified thorought the show since I thought they were using the whips to torture the poor animals.

Decades of planning will finally culminate in a small, but usable, Brooklyn Bridge Park by the end o

Decades of planning will finally culminate in a small, but usable, Brooklyn Bridge Park by the end of 2009 — but state planners admitted on Monday that they don’t know when the rest of the 85-acre open space and condo development will be complete, thanks to a lack of public funding.

The 1.3-mile strip of open space from Pier 1 to Pier 6 along the Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO waterfront was budgeted to cost $150 million in 2002 — but that figure has soared to well over $300 million today, yet only $225 million has been allocated by the state and city. As a result, the state-run Brooklyn Bridge Park Development Corporation now says it will finish two-thirds of the project by 2012.

Despite the setback, Regina Myer, the BBPDC president said, “We’re thrilled — the park is really getting built.”

Myer said the two portions of the park that will be completed by the end of 2009 are part of Pier 6, at the foot of Atlantic Avenue, and almost all of Pier 1, just south of the Fulton Ferry landing and the Brooklyn Bridge, where a temporary viewing area allows tourists to check out the “New York City Waterfalls” installation.

By the end of next year, most of the rolling lawns of Pier 1 will be built, as will the “grand” entrances at Atlantic Avenue and Old Fulton Street, and a playground, a volleyball beach, dog run and concession stand on Pier 6 and its nearby uplands, Myer said.

A beach planned for Pier 4 and landscaped areas near Pier 2 will be finished in 2011, and in 2012, ballfields and courts, and a barbecuing area will be open on Pier 5.

Construction of a third of the park has been postponed until additional public money can be secured.

The gap of at least $75 million has plunged Piers 2 and 3 into limbo. This portion of the park would be terrain for basketball courts, in-line skating area, tether ball, passive meadows, and, in the water around the docks, safe kayaking areas. A marina and the other calm water area is in doubt also because state conservation officials have not signed off on attenuators that are necessary to smooth out any waves or tidal activity in the East River. The attenuators may negatively affect aquatic life.

The state also needs more money to finish Pier 6 and to acquire land from Con Edison on John Street in DUMBO to extend the park past the Manhattan Bridge.

Myer, who took over the BBPDC about eight months ago, revealed the construction schedule at a meeting of the park’s directors on Monday morning and told The Brooklyn Paper that she was emphasizing public spaces over the residential development of 1,200 units of housing inside the park that is also part of the plan.

“Park construction must precede residential development,” she said.

But housing and commercial development inside the park’s footprint are an essential part of the unusual financing scheme to maintain the park. Instead of paying property taxes, condo residents and business owners will pay annual fees to cover what was roughly expected to be $15 million in operating costs.

That $15 million is probably not sufficient, Myer admitted, but added, “I don’t anticipate a huge increase.”

Faced with a gap between its revenue and operating costs, park officials might have to decide between increasing private development inside Brooklyn Bridge Park or permitting it to fall into disrepair — both unappealing options.

The public was set to get a first look at Myer’s latest timetable at a meeting on Monday night. The Brooklyn Paper will update the story on Tuesday.

Ever since I read this book Metropolis by Elizabeth Gaffney, I’ve wanted to see the Brooklyn

Ever since I read this book Metropolis by Elizabeth Gaffney, I've wanted to see the Brooklyn Bridge. In the novel, an immigrant ends up working on the masterpiece and you get a cool look at what workers had to deal with while building it. Therefore, it was necessary that we check it out.

We took the 6 to the end of the line at City Hall where the bridge starts. It was a perfect day to go because it was a good temperature and dusk was perfect. The downtown skyline was beautiful. We walked to the first of the towers and read the plaques about the bridge's specifications. What I still can't believe is that they were the tallest structures in the Western hemisphere when they were built (the bridge was completed in 1883). Now, they are dwarfed by almost everything around them. Of course, the craftsmanship and uniqueness of the bridge are what make it still one of the most beautiful structures in the world. The Gothic arches were so massive and high up and the limestone was stunning. The fact I discovered on the bridge was that there used to be cable cars that ran across it. What I knew before was that many men died building it because they had to blast rock underneath the river. The whole ordeal was extremely dangerous.

The walkway across was divided into a walking lane and a biking lane. The bikers were moving quickly so you had to be careful. When we were getting off the bridge, we both almost got Schwinned pretty bad (If you don't know what Schwinned is, it is a commonly used phrase at UofI for getting hit by a bike. A frequent problem on our campus). I always laugh when there is a clear conflict between bikers and walkers due to limited space.

After getting off the bridge the objective was to find the park below it and also this pizza place named Grimaldi's. We walked toward the park first. We weren't sure where we were going, but the brick streets were welcoming and neat. The area is a neighborhood called Dumbo. The coolest thing we saw was a downhill street that gave a perfect view of the Manhattan bridge, which is not far from the Brooklyn.

Under the Manhattan Bridge is Dumbo park and that was probably the most beautiful place we had seen. It was right on the East River and gave a perfect view of both bridges and downtown. We sat on a bench and watched the sun set behind the downtown skyline and the lights on the Brooklyn suspension coils turn on.

Then we walked back south and started looking for the pizza place. We wanted to walk through the state park, but it was closing. We found the pizza place, Grimaldi's, but it was not what we expected. You couldn't get just a slice and it wasn't a hole in the wall. It is brick oven pizza and supposedly the best in the city. There was an hour long line standing outside to get in the little restaurant. I do hope to go at some point.

On our way back to the subway we were getting hungry. We resolved on going back to Union Square to get some fast food and ended up having Wendy's. It was still beautiful out so we ate at the edge of a small fountain in the park. It was a very nice evening.

-George and Michelle the Bridge Admirers

Unfortunately, I uploaded the pictures on Michelle's computer. When she comes to visit on Monday I will get them from her.

When Walt Disney delivered Dumbo to RKO Pictures for distribution, the studio demanded that the film

When Walt Disney delivered Dumbo to RKO Pictures for distribution, the studio demanded that the film be lengthened from its 64 minute running time or cut up into short subjects. Disney refused. RKO then suggested that a 64 minute film would work better as a B-movie, under a live-action picture. Again, Disney refused, and the frustrated studio bosses at RKO released Dumbo as a feature length cartoon.

Released on October 23, 1941 Dumbo was instant hit with kids and adults. Although Pearl Harbor and the United States entrance into World War Two two months later was at first thought to be a hindrance to the film’s success, audiences wanted a distraction from the horrors of war, and this made Dumbo extremely profitable for Walt Disney’s company.

Dumbo was the first Walt Disney picture to be released on videocassette. It was released in 1981 for rental only. In 1982 it was put on sale for the first time. Dumbo has never been out of print, since then. Therefore, it’s fitting that Dumbo is part of the first group of Walt Disney pictures streaming on ReelTime. Almost 70 years after its initial release, Dumbo still entertains young and old, with a classic story that resonates with anyone who has felt like an outsider.

[caption id="attachment_204" align="aligncenter" width="460" caption="Courtesy of Les Adams"][/caption]

Over the image of a crude cross with the name "Billy The Kid" written on it, runs this scroll: "William H. Bonney, alias Billy The Kid, was killed at Fort Sumner, New Mexico, July 14, 1881. So the official records state. But was he? The supposed killing was done by his life long friend, Sheriff Pat Garrett, and has long been disputed, even by members of Billy's outlaw band."

The film begins with a stagecoach robbery and the wounded lawman on board swearing the leader of the gang was Billy The Kid.

Next, Charles rides into Fort Sumner and digs up Billy's grave -- it's empty except for a saddle and gunbelt.

[caption id="attachment_603" align="aligncenter" width="454" caption="Courtesy of Columbia Pictures"][/caption]

This film is called "Billy The Kid Rides Again" right? Or "The Return of Billy The Kid" or "Pat Garrett's Folly" or "The Empty Grave on Boot Hill"?

Nope. "West of Tombstone." Nice work, boys. Thanks for the vague geographic clue to the general location of the action of the film. Big help. Really sells the picture.

[caption id="attachment_205" align="aligncenter" width="460" caption="Courtesy of Les Adams"][/caption]

Deputy United States Marshall Steve Langdon is looking for Billy. It's a mystery. Is it Lucky Barnett (Russell Hayden)? No, it's his Dad - gone clean - and the old Hole in the Wall Gang is blackmailing him into setting up stagecoach robberies for them.

This 1942 film is the third pairing of Charles Starrett and Russell Hayden, and their names both appear above the credits. They would do five more films together before the partnership was dissolved and Charley found his niche as the Durango Kid.

Just as Charley is always Steve Something, Russell is always Lucky Something.

People in these films get "winged" alot. This means that they get shot, but conveniently don't suffer the real-life consequences of taking a bullet. I've learned to accept the stomach shot that heals overnight and the shoulder wound that doesn't affect one's gun work. But this takes the case: Lucky gets shot in the head, he clutches his eye and falls down. A few minutes later, he comes to and jumps up. No blood, no wound, no mark at all. After a couple of days of bed rest, the Doc says he's just fine. Yeah....

[caption id="attachment_604" align="aligncenter" width="454" caption="Courtesy of Columbia Pictures"][/caption]

Comedy is handled by Cliff Edwards, a former vaudevillian renowned for his ukelele act, who we might remember best as the voice of Jiminy Cricket and singing "When I See An Elephant Fly" in "Dumbo".

Shot among the great rock formations of Brandeis Ranch and Iverson Ranch in California.

So a while back I went to see the Telectroscope in Dumbo. I was very excited about it. I'm not sure why. There's not a lot to the Telectroscope--I mean, you get to look at people in London via live video. If I knew someone in London (I mean, I do know people in London...hmmm), then maybe I could make a date to see them face-to-face, and then (cue music) even though we'd know how very far about we are, it'd help to think we might be wishing on the same bright star. Ahem.

So I wasn't really all that impressed by the video part of it, but I think the video part of it is really not the point. I mean, look at this:

And then this:

And it's kind of amazing.

More pics of this and other awesome stuff from DUMBO can be found here.

Polish theatre TR Warszawa is staging Shakespeare's "Macbeth" in Dumbo this week. It almost seemed like the director, Grzegorz Jarzyna, and his crew were under some sort of a curse - for the last week they were building stage in the old Tobacco Warehouse at the Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park, with constant rain breaks, but they have finally built it and it's ready. The play is staged outside and there's no plan B, so even the dress rehearsal last night was highly iffy. But luckily, the weather cooperated, even if only for a few hours, and we're happy to say that the rehearsal took place and... looked great:

We can't wait to see the play, showing every night from tonight until June 29th. It's a modern take on the old classic, very creative and contemporary, with lots of light, fireworks and sounds of military choppers. Sounds exciting, right? All the tickets are sold out (except the closing night), but we've been told that you can try right before the performance, maybe you'll get lucky. We're also keeping our fingers crossed so none of the performances would be rained out.

Believe it or not readers, and this bares no real surprise either…..

“My daughter is now four, and I have been through the same question. We do not have t.v. or cable, but have allowed videos/dvds since she was two.”

TWO? Like this makes it better.. so until your daughter turned TWO fucking years old she was without T.V, Cable AND fucking DVD’s? Where do you people live? In a fucking basement in Austria? He aint your husband princess, he’s your daddy!

Some fucking people, eh!

The thread is basically a slap in the mouth for the man who made kids feel good, and not in the same way as Michael Jackson did, some of these anally retentive people are turning our future generations into complete sociopaths by not allowing them the child curreny of cartoons.

Check out this fucking butt nuggets post, no points for guessing his fucking name!!

“D. Head says:

I don't think that all of the Disney movies are bad, but I do think that the majority of the movies have a message that I do not want my daughter to learn”

Looks like we got ourselves another one boys, go gets me my shovel.

“The Little Mermaid displays the message of a little girl disobeying her father, and in the end getting what she wants because her father feels sorry for her after she disobeyed him”

Now, being all manly and shit, I think I saw this once or twice and I kinda remember the plot, but doesn’t she save king Neptunes kingdom for the old hag? Now, in the movie I don’t recall seeing Ariel watching Disney cartoons and look at her morals.. If only her folks had let her watch fucking Dumbo as a kid.. tut tut tut..

She aint done there though. I think she doesn’t like Mr Disney…

“In the Great Mouse Detective, there is a cabaret scene and the female mouse sings that she will do anything for the male onlookers like "taking off all my blues", and she is wearing a blue dress”

Now I aint seen this movie before, but I’m willing to put my cock on the block that good old Walt Disney wasn’t trying to imply that this cabaret mouse is willing to suck cock for a quarter pound of stilton. What was this woman doing watching these? Shit, from time to time I pretend that the movie plot will spiral into a huge fucking orgy, but the movies I watch usually have naked people in and they DO end in orgies!

“In 101 Dalmatians, the word idiot is used more than a dozen times!”

She’s just clutching at fucking anything here.

“In Aladdin, he lies to get closer to the princess and pretends to be someone that he is not. And again in the end, by lying and deceiving, Aladdin gets what he wants.”

Like EVERY man hasn’t told a little lie to pretend he was a navy seal or fireman just to get laid. Fucking hell, she’s a princess. Shit, I bet princess Diana of Wales would have to get fed a load of bullshit to sleep with a commoner. Especially someone, say, like a rugby player!

Ending with…

“As adults we may be able to decipher what is right and wrong but how can we let our little children watch some movies when we are teaching them to not lie, steal, talk ugly or disobey us, as parents. I have not watched Dumbo, Snow White or Bambi in a long time, but I will look into them.”

It makes me want to send a complimentary copy of South Park: Bigger longer and uncut.

So the whole point of my rant today is that your can’t be a cunt to your children all their life. They will grow older and bigger and come back to beat your punk ass. I’m absolutely fucking sickened at such child abuse in this day in age.

And the worst part of it all is these kind of people most likely trade cartoons for the bible, teaching their kids that becoming a martyr for others is how life should be and that building boats and flooding the world to cleanse one mans depiction of impurities is the right way to go about things.

They might as well get their kids to watch fucking Al Jazeera tv and support the Nazi’s

Call yourself parents?

Joseph Bennett, still from video Untitled (2007)Holy Holes: Absolute Stalls is a multimedia exhibition exploring different viewpoints on the relationship between religion, power and economics. This show looks at religion from a humorous, poetic and critical perspective, subverting traditional expectations and inviting viewer to interact, transform, or reflect on the relationship between religious rituals and consumerist everyday practices.Among the more general ideas gathered in this show is how religious rituals and dogmas are used to sustain gender and ethnic differences, and to claim absolute power through propagandistic consumerist strategies. The other end of the spectrum here is how believers react. Whether individually or collectively, more intimately or overtly, and whether we are believers or not, most of us are usually caught in the web of religious imagining, as receptacles of divine inspiration or intervention, or as messengers of absolute power. Another aspect of how believers react is in the fluxes of social change through language and culture assimilation, re-contextualizing and reshaping language structures, which leads to competing and shifting positions of power. Some dogmatic languages are kept untouched, while others result from the mixing of sub-cultural trends into the mainstream via the many cultural industries of a free market society. In this show, absolute messages are equated with anarchic demonstrations, self-conscious humor and a bit of deep reflection, bringing the viewer to a contradictory duality of cathartic interaction and religious critique.
