Claire B Lang - Indianapolis Motor Speedway
Saturday, July 26, 2008

Jamie McMurray was 7th fastest in the NSCS Practice 3 here at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and will start 8th in Sundays Allstate 400 at the Brickyard. After Qualifying on Saturday I asked him about Jack Roush leaving his name off when listing his drivers that nobody could take from him on Friday - and other reporters joined in.

CBL: YESTERDAY JACK (ROUSH) LEFT YOUR NAME OFF A LIST OF DRIVERS THAT NOBODY COULD TAKE AWAY FROM HIM. ARE YOU THE ODD MAN OUT WHEN THEY GO TO FOUR CARS? McMurray: “I don’t know. They haven’t discussed that with me and I don’t think that’s really even been discussed. I can’t control what Jack says and sometimes Jack will go off a little bit and it maybe gets out of control, but it’s not that big of a deal. It’s been a tough season for sure and this is a performance-based business and the 26 team, if you look at the results, hasn’t been as good as the other four teams, so Jack is just kind of stating the obvious. We’ve got to get our performance better. It’s not where I want to be, the team or Roush Fenway or Crown or Irwin, whoever – we’ve got to get better. The good thing about our team is that our cars have been really fast, and I think the hardest part in this sport is to have fast cars week-in and week-out, and when happy hour has been over every week we’ve had good cars. At Sonoma, running second with a few laps to go and we got run into, and cut a tire down at Chicago. I can give you a long list of things that if it would have been just a little different, we would have had some really good finishes. So I’m optimistic with all that, so we’ll just have to move on.”

DO YOU THINK JACK WAS TRYING TO SEND A MESSAGE? McMurray: “You’re asking me to speculate and I’m not into speculating.”

ARE YOU CONFIDENT YOU’LL BE BACK AT ROUSH? McMurray: “I tell you what, if you guys want to print the truth, the truth is I’ll be there with Crown Royal. There’s not a question. It’s 100 percent. I know there’s been some reporters that have speculated again on where I’ll be and who the sponsors will be, and certainly everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I wish that for all of the media that they would just base it on facts. If they’re gonna say they have a source, then they should reveal that source, but, 100 percent, I will be here with Crown and with Irwin and at Roush Fenway.”

CBL: WHAT ABOUT THE RUMORS OF YOU AND THE FOURTH CAR AT CHILDRESS? McMurray: “There’s no truth to that. Richard is looking for a driver and I’m somewhat flattered to have my name on a list that another owner would want you, but I will be in this car and not at Richard Childress Racing.”

McMurray continues to insist that he's secure - even saying he's 100% sure he is coming back next year. Jack was clear that the performance of McMurray has not delivered - but stopped short of saying that the team would be dropped or that :McMurray would be gone.

Jack Roush: "Jamie is important to me but today you know Jamie is not the driver that has been productive to the extent the other four are. I certainly expected and expect great things from Jamie but the productivity has not been there at this point.

Reporter: If you have to go down to four teams is that the team that could be going somewhere else?

Jack Roush: "It really has more to do with the sponsorship relationship than the driver but one of the reasons that I fostered the relationship I've got with Max and with Doug (Yates) is to be able to have a place to put a sponsor. We do help them sell their sponsorships - we do help them with their marketing programs - we do all the engineering- we do build all their cars so it's a closely affiliated relationship that maintains the covenant , the barriers that NASCAR wants to put up for competitive considerations but it has not been determined that the 26 program or the Crown Royal will go. I've got two more years, I've got the rest of 2008 and 2009 to sort that out.

This story is one that continues to be discussed by media here in the deadline room. Watch McMurray's team bust off a solid performance this weekend in the Allstate 400.

I'll keep you posted on what is happening here.

July 26, 2008

It's been too long since I've written and I'm sorry I've been on the run. I've been on the road trip of a lifetime back to the midwest broadcasting from Chicago to Wisconsin, seeing family, and then off to Indy.

Friday at Indy was insane - there were so many interesting stories developing. Tony Stewart's news conference across the street from the track kicked off the day and the action didn't stop for a second until air time. Between Rusty saying that Ryan Newman was fired by Roger Penske to Ryan denying it strongly to Jack Roush omitting Jamie McMurray's name when mentioning the drivers who were secure with him - well it was a wild day.

I'm here in the media center now overlooking the track and I'm about to head down to pit road for qualifying - I will have more for you when that gets done but I wanted to write a few things before I headed down to the grid.

Everyone's talking about what Mark Martin said about racing here. Was it a guarantee of a win here at Indy this weekend or just confidence. Here's the Mark Martin quote:

"I'm planning on winning the Brickyard in the 8 car. We've got the stuff, we've got the team, the cars are awesome on the flat tracks - Phoenix and Richmond and I have never planned on anything any more than my plan is for the Brickyard. That's the crown jewel and if you look at how that car ran at Phoenix - I believe that we can adapt that set up to work there and make that --- ah the team is strong enough on pit road and Tony Gibson and those guys who work on that car are due a win. You know they got several disappointments last year when they had great race cars and had failures and what have you. Nothing would make me happier than to see their face in victory lane."

Anyone who knows Mark Martin knows that is quite the statement. But later - yesterday when asked about his statement (above) - Mark Martin said this:

MARK MARTIN: I'm not sure I said exactly what you guys take and run with. I'm not sure I did a Mohammed Ali. You know, I do feel very confident that we'll have a car here that will be strong enough to be a contender to win this race. I might say that every week - maybe. But, you know, believing it deep down inside I usually know that's a bigger challenge than it might be here this week.

I believe that you can run the same stuff here that you can run at Phoenix. And I believe that we had the fastest car on the racetrack at Phoenix. It's that simple.

My translation is that while Mark is confident - his first statement earlier was not a guarantee of a win - which some of the headlines read his statement as saying. It was just confidence in his team and his car and a strong desire to turn that into a win.

Kevin Harvick had a few interesting comments yesterday. I laughed loud when he answered a reporter asking him about the excitement of racing here at Indy. LOL:

Reporter: DO YOU AGREE WITH ALL THAT HAS BEEN WRITTEN AND SAID ABOUT THE RACING NOT BEING AS EXCITING AS IN THE PAST WITH THIS NEW CAR AND WON’T ALLOW FOR ANY SIDE-BY-SIDE RACING HERE AT IMS? Kevin Harvick: “That is why I don’t read anything you guys write or talk about. (LAUGHS) I try not to pay attention to people who don’t necessarily understand how our sport works. I think the races have been as good as races as we have had in a long time at Daytona, Chicago. I think in the garage, everybody is getting a better handle on the car. I don’t there has ever been any side-by-side racing here. The opinions come from a lot of people who really don’t understand the sport. Unfortunately, some of our amateur fans that haven’t attended a lot of races, have to the read that stuff and get kind of a false opinion of what they should expect when they come to this particular race track. This track promotes single-file racing, not necessarily this car. You can take an Indy car, you can take a stock car and you are not going to run side-by-side. If you want to blame something for single file racing, I would blame it on the track and not the car

And KH's answer on a question about the engine modifications in the Nationwide series:

Reporter: WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE ENGINE RULE CHANGE MADE IN NATIONWIDE SERIES? Kevin Harvick: “When is the Truck Series rule coming? (LAUGHS) If you look at most of the engine stuff that they have from all the other types of race tracks, I think, it is pretty evident that the No. 18 was on the chip and doing a lot of things after the race that probably affected those chassis dyno numbers and the No. 20 car went high right off the bat so I think they did the right

Clint Boyer had an interesting note as well - his about how they have been running about him being in the rumor mill and his being discovered by Richard Childress:

Reporter: EVERYBODY KNOWS ABOUT HOW YOU GOT YOUR BIG BREAK IN THIS SPORT, RC (RICHARD CHILDRESS) WATCHING THE ARCA RACE AND EVERYTHING. GIVING THERE’S NO SCOUTING, NOTHING LIKE WE SEE IN THE NFL, HOW MUCH OF MAKING IT IS TIMING AND LUCK AND JUST BEING IN THE RIGHT PLACE? Clint Bowyer: “It is a lot timing and luck. You only get one shot at it unfortunately. I’ve seen a lot of guys get an opportunity that I thought they’re going to set the world on fire and for whatever reason didn’t rise to the occasion and racing late models or dirt cars whatever their background was they were the heat. Then it got to that opportunity to where maybe it wasn’t the right opportunity. Things went wrong. It’s seems like if you’re not running good in those first couple of races you’re pushed by the wayside pretty quick. It’s unfortunate. Sometimes guys come in so far behind in experience they don’t even get a chance to showcase their talent. Unfortunate but it is a very competitive, very close form of racing in any sport. It’s hard to get inside and then we get so much experience, so much seat time inside the car with testing, practice, racing Nationwide, racing cup you’re just in the car so much a new kid that grew up racing late models, it’s hard for him to catch up to that.”

YOU ARE 13TH RIGHT NOW, BAD LUCK IT SEEMS, ARE YOU HURTING REALLY?
Clint Boyer: “We’re not running well. We took a step backwards. We really did. We started out this season with seven straight top-10’s, more than anybody at the time. We won at Richmond and then the bottom fell out. The short tracks have been well for us. We’re running good. It’s the 1.5-mile tracks that have really, really been the dagger right now and we’re trying to figure it out. We’re working harder than we ever have testing. We don’t have the answer right now. It doesn’t fall in your lap. It’s due to hard work, what got us here and the hard work is going to get us out of this slump. It’s definitely crunch time, we’ve got to get going. Top-10’s are what will put you there, but we need to start running in the top five and contending for wins. At the beginning of the season I was happy with the way that my team was running. We’ve answered the call and been doing the things that we need to do to get things turned around.”

THE 07 HAS BEEN IN THE MEDIA RUMOR MILL FOR MONTHS, DOES THAT CAUSE A DISTRACTION FOR YOUR TEAM? Clint Boyer“Richard and I were talking about that. It doesn’t help anything. When everybody’s wondering is the driver going to be there and whatever else and we got that taken care of. I think it can hurt you a little bit but that doesn’t make the car handle better. Still things have got to work, the car has to handle and you got to do your job inside the race car. It’s not like I’m a distraction, I forgot how to drive. It’s an unfortunate deal that we all have to go through. It’s uncomfortable. Nobody likes going through that especially the people that have given you everything, given you the life and everything else. They are uncomfortable times and things I don’t like to go through. Thank God you only have to do it every three years or so. I really enjoy this sport. I enjoy the challenge. It doesn’t matter what kind of racing it is at what level there’s always challenges. The challenge has presented itself, now we’ve got to answer the call.”

I I didn't have time to tell you much about the Aflac news conference regarding sponsorship of Carl Edwards. Aflac will be the primary sponsor for his car and Aflac will sell the primary spot out for a number of the races but will still have presence on the car.

In the question and answer session - Carl enjoyed cutting up about driving with a Duck on his car - and Edwards answered a question about making the Aflac commercial:

"I can't tell all the secrets to it but it's amazing how they make the duck do all that stuff. It's hard to get a duck to talk and to scream and to look at Jamie when we go by him in the car. You know the driving part is tough for him cause he doesn't have thumbs and that's kind of the thing that helps...... It really was pretty neat. We had a really good time."

In the move "Stroker Ace" the driver was sponsored by a chicken company and had to wear a chicken suit. A reporter asked if Edwards would ever be seen in a commercial wearing a duck suit. Here's what Carl said:

"That was Clyde Torkle's Chicken Pit and Aflac's been much better than he has been. We actually talked about that last night. There's a lot of potential for that Carl in a duck suit commercial but I don't know don't give him any ideas. That was a pretty fun part of that movie yea!"

Carl helped design the look of his new Aflac race car....something that was new for him and he was asked about what that experience was like:

"We just talked about it. The way it usually works is they say -hey here's our paint scheme here's what we're thinking about doing. Everybody looked at it - everybody from Bob (Osborne) to the crew guys to Randy (Pr person) to my assistant Angela. Everybody just looked at it and said hey here's what we think and then we got with Paul and all the guys and everybody just said hey we want it to have this color this aspect and then they came up with a bunch of designs and it kind of became a pretty cool process but it wasn't a plan where we set out like hey said hey here's how we're going to figure it out. Everybody just kind of tried different things."

That is it for now. I'll be back with you but am headed to Gasoline Ally and see what I can find out down there. Then, to the grid for qualifying.

Hope all is well were you are at.

Enjoy the morning!

adjustable eight-gram weights allow players to choose from 15
ball-flight settings – using a dial to tweak the center of gravity (CG)
CNC-milled “CORTECH” insert behind the face, giving this club a large
sweet spot for explosive shots, even on off-center hits.

The
distinct look of this high-MOI driver is attributed to the concave
ridges on top, giving the crown a hollowed-out appearance. This design allows for weight to be concentrated at the perimeters of the club head, lowering the CG and increasing the MOI. As a result, the club is very forgiving and makes it easy to launch the ball high in the air. Because
the light head also provides excellent stability, the Staff Spine comes
standard with a longer-than-average shaft to increase swing speeds
without compromising accuracy.

The
XCG’s magnesium crown is two times lighter than a typical titanium
crown, meaning the weight of the club head is located largely in the
steel sole. Meanwhile, the face is built with
the same “titanium cupped face technology” that made Tour Edge’s
Exotics Fairway woods so popular. These
features in tandem mean the club promotes a high launch and boasts
extremely high MOI to make it extra-forgiving on miss hits. In addition, the magnesium crown absorbs the impact of each shot so the club feels smooth upon contact.

by Bill Kliewer, The Golf Warehouse (TGW.com)

Hitting a long and straight tee shot can do wonders for anyone’s score and confidence. Perhaps that’s why club manufacturers have placed so much emphasis on driver technology in recent years, and golfers of all skill levels are reaping the benefits. Don’t miss out on some of the latest and greatest big sticks of the 2008 season.

Nike Sumo SQ2 5900
The SQ2 5900 represents a step up for Nike’s already-strong Sumo line, with a deeper face and improved body shaping which add ball speed and improved accuracy. The weight of the light titanium head is distributed to the corners thanks to Nike’s Powerbow™ weighting system. This gives the club a USGA-maximum moment of inertia (MOI), as this square-shaped club offers unparalleled forgiveness on mis-hits.

Cleveland Men’s HiBore XLS
The Hibore XLS features a 17-percent larger club face than its popular predecessor, the HiBore XL. Cleveland also beefed up the new model to include a 13-percent higher MOI, resulting in optimal launch over a large area of the face. In combination, these features allow golfers to hit straighter, longer shots even when the swing isn’t perfect. The stability ridges along the sides and the crown plaque on top also make it easy to align the club at address.

Callaway FT-i Tour LCG
This square driver features a head made of ultra-light carbon-composite material so weight can be distributed to the extreme corners of the club. This helps make the FT-i Tour LCG the highest MOI of any Callaway driver to date. With this club, it is actually hard not to hit the ball straight. Additionally, the titanium face was designed using Callaway’s performance-enhancing VFT technology for explosive power to improve any golfer’s distance.

Cobra Speed LD F and Speed LD M
Cobra’s Speed LD series includes two different types of drivers — the Speed LD M that caters to mid to high-handicappers, and the Speed LD F for more advanced players. Golfers with moderate swing speeds (76-97 MPH) should try the Speed LD M. It promotes extra high launch to add distance to any shot, and includes a built-in draw bias to correct slice and add distance. The Speed LD F is for golfers with faster swings (over 87 MPH) and is designed to create lower spin, so golfers can take more control of their shots.

One-way…or another? Spalding drivers head in wrong direction

Contractors currently working on Spalding’s High Bridge are being put in danger as motorists travel the wrong way down the High Street, County Council Highways are warning.

High Street has been one-way (Southbound) for many years, but engineers and crews carrying our works on High Bridge have witnessed drivers travelling Northbound, putting their own safety at risk too.

Highways advise all motorists to observe the signs and markings in place.

Improvements are currently taking place on High Bridge, including refurbishing traffic signals, de-cluttering the area of superfluous signage and resurfacing and widening the footways. A priority right turn will also be added for motorists travelling from High Street who wish to turn right over High Bridge.

Diversions for each approach route are signposted in advance of the area.

Santa Clara (CA) - After demonstrating beta drivers featuring GPU-accelerated physics on 3DMark Vantage and Unreal Tournament III (GeForce GTX and 9800 boards), Nvidia is getting ready to release the official Windows driver.

his driver will support PhysX acceleration on all capable GeForce 8, 9 and GTX cards, while carrying Microsoft's WHQL certificate. More importantly, the new ForceWare driver is expanding PhysX support to all currently available PhysX titles on the market, including Ghost Recon 2: Advanced Warfighter, Warmonger and Cell Factor: Revolution.

We expect that downloads of free games such as Warmonger and Cell Factor will actually spike once again in August, since now those games will be playable on a variety of cards.

I recently went on a trip to London, it was only 3 days, and as such, I can't really judge the people of London or their city to any fair degree of accuracy. But I'm going to do it.

5 Things I saw in London, which I found utterly hilarious.

1. A man being pick pocketed. Total hilarity, the twat didn't even notice, and quite frankly if you walk about like an aggressive cock, like most Londoners, during my stay, did, then you deserve it. His phone was stolen, and I lulzed. Hard.

You see, the sad thing is, if people hadn't been unapologetically bumping into me all day, as if the entire city was on their period I might have done something, perhaps alerted the man that he had just become a victim of crime.

But you know what?

I hold you all responsible for the actions of the few, if one cunt is aggressive or rude to me, you will all receive my spite, and judgemental, cynical, scorn because of it.

2. An Asian woman pushing an 8 year old over, on an escalator, without apologising, or even looking at her... Brilliant. Pure genius.

I literally masturbated over this hilarious mental image when I got home.

The look of pure hurt on that 8 year old's face as she fell head first into an escalator to have her hair mangled, her shins bloodied; brilliant.

The screams that came from that little girl as the escalator caught on her hair; they were like a symphony of delightful sadism to my ears that helped to wash away the aggravation that had become pent up inside me throughout the day..

I took great perverse pleasure in doing absolutely nothing but sitting back, and watching her little face slowly become drenched in a sea of tears, blood and torn out hair. She looked like she'd just been brutally ravaged, by a really sadistic priest.

I came a little.

3. A black man giving an Asian man racist abuse... Priceless. Words cannot even describe the sheer sexually overwhelming feelings of ecstatic joy I felt in my crotch region as I watched this masterpiece of degradation and irony unfold.

4. Drunks on bikes. You fuck-tards shouldn't be allowed drink, you can't fucking handle it, end of story. I saw 3 twats cycling down the wrong lane laughing hysterically drinking cans of premium larger. One fuck-tard crushing his skull between his hands, crouched on the floor crying outside a pub, around 5 bar fights, and God knows how many drunk girls passed out in corners (and yes, I did rape them all.)

5. An Englishman pick a fight with a drunk Irish man. Granted, I didn't so much witness this as I did start a fight, but still the point stands; utterly hilarious.

One Reason I will not be going back to London in the future. (And yes, I only need one.)

You're all very fucking rude. You don't queue for anything, everyone's in a rush, nobody says sorry for pushing or shoving or bumping into you, your train carriages can be likened to being in the position of a Jew in a gas chamber, only the Ziclon B is the fat fuck sitting next to you's body odour, you're all really fucking loud, all the fucking time. Your accent is so so grating that it can only be likened to driving a circular saw through the side of my face. Nobody says thank you to bus drivers, you're basically all loud, obnoxious, cunts.

Fuck you and your city. Actually, in all fairness, I do quite like your city, I just fucking hate your people.

I hope the rest of England isn't such a raging disappointment for me.

"Ordinary Mary"

"Greet Mary, who worked very hard for you" (Romans 16:6).

I saw "Mary" in action at a church gathering. A disabled person had fallen and in the process had also become very frightened. The scene was becoming somewhat chaotic as people were looking on while the uncomfortable drama unfolded. Due to a life-altering injury the man encountered many years ago he was unable to cope with the situation and needed assistance, both physically and emotionally. A "Mary" lovingly helped this individual to exercise self-restraint while maintaining his dignity.

Most who are familiar with the Bible will readily identify Hebrews 11 as the "Hall of Fame of Faith". This chapter mentions many of the famous characters of the Old Testament such as Noah, Abraham and Moses.

But Romans 16 is another Hall of Fame representing the scores of little known believers who have contributed to the advancement of God's Kingdom throughout the church age. Most of the names mentioned in this chapter (35 altogether) are not referred to anywhere else in Scripture. Yet each made an impact on Paul's life and upon many others as well.

Mention the name, Mary, in the Bible and one probably assumes a reference to the mother of our Lord or to Mary Magdalene. But today's brief Scripture verse is the only Mary mentioned in any of the epistles, a dedicated local believer in the Roman church. Her impact was such that Paul made a special greeting to her in his epistle, "Greet Mary, who worked very hard for you."

Her simple distinction? "She worked very hard for you." We are not told what she did, but the Roman believers knew very well. Perhaps she was on the fellowship committee or she rocked the crying babies to sleep. Those are sure two hard jobs in a healthy, active church! Maybe she stayed around after a church meal to scrub the dishes (way before the days of plastic ware or paper plates.) That chore had to be done back then as well.

Whatever she did, she worked very hard. The emphasis on "very" is purposeful. The KJV reads "bestowed much labor." Finally let us note the simple words "for you." What a blessing she must have been to the church in Rome as she diligently served others!

We've met a lot of people through the years like Mary. In fact some have actually been named Mary! What a tremendous blessing they are; ordinary people using ordinary gifts to build up Christ's extraordinary church. All over the world, unheralded and often underappreciated, they're still a major part of God's plan in getting the job done.

Take note of the "Marys" among you in your congregation. Speak a word of appreciation to them as you intentionally notice that which others might unintentionally miss. And if you happen to be a hard worker for Christ like Mary you will someday hear the words of greatest commendation from the Master Himself, "Well done, good and faithful servant!"

Be encouraged today,

Stephen & Brooksyne Weber

Daily Prayer: Father, as we diligently labor for You it is not to bring attention to ourselves, but it is to bring glory to Your name and further the kingdom of God. Help us to find our place of Christian service where we can develop our gifts and expend our labors for building up the body of Christ. Amen.

Brooksyne's Note: Do you know one who labors when others are not present, thereby it often goes unnoticed. One such role is the janitor of a church who sees that the bathrooms are scrubbed, toilet paper and paper towel dispensers are filled, mirrors shine, floors are swept, glass doors are polished, etc. We expect to see our church clean on Sundays and think little of it……. unless it is not clean or paper towels are missing, etc. And then we might even get a little frustrated. Some people serve in a capacity that goes completely unnoticed until something is out of place. Therefore when they're doing a good job we rarely consider their valuable contribution and even more rarely let them know how much we appreciate their work. Our church has a part-time janitorial couple who are in their mid to late 70's. While I was a Sunday School teacher I had the children each write a note of thanks on our chalkboard so they would see it while cleaning that week. We also wrote thank you notes another time and dropped them in their mailbox. This couple has come to some of our special services and each time we talk they always say, "You're the one who thanked us for cleaning the church." They don't really know me personally but they recognize me by this small gesture that meant a great deal to them. They had told me that it was the only time they had received such notes of appreciation. That was years ago and I trust by now that they have received many others gestures of appreciation.

We especially like these words:

He chooses people just like me and you.
Who are willing to do everything that He commands.
God uses people that will give Him all.
It doesn't matter how small your all may seem to you.
Because little becomes much as you place it in the Master's hand.

I suggested these two songs earlier this week but they really fit again!

HP Pavilion dv6871us (derecha)

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="491" caption="HP Pavilion dv6871us (derecha)"][/caption]

One of the pleasures of living on the Main Line are the rich kids who spend scads of mommy and daddy

One of the pleasures of living on the Main Line are the rich kids who spend scads of mommy and daddy's money at the Julian Krinsky "enrichment" camps. Let's for a moment ignore the fact that these camps really just off-load the kids so the parents don't have to deal with them and, further, give the pubescent hormonal rugrats a place to hone their courting skills (read: to have sex). Instead, let's concentrate on the remarkable amount of self entitlement and disregard these brats have for anything going on around them.

Here, two perfectly healthy boys were driving a Julian Krinsky car across Haverford College campus, down the walkways in the middle of the quad merely because it was raining. They were trying to catch their "friend" (the guy standing in the background). After they honked at me to get out of their way—I had the audacity to be walking on the walkway—they drove another 50 feet, stopped, and talked to their buddy for the next five minutes. Then they tried and failed to turn around, drove across the lawn, and out the far side of the quad.

Clearly, the Krinsky camps neither attract kids with any respect for those around them nor instill those values in the kiddies while they are here.

Wanna know what the most controversial, the HOTTEST topic, the cause of more weeping and gnashing of

Wanna know what the most controversial, the HOTTEST topic, the cause of more weeping and gnashing of teeth than a one way trip to hades itself is for many residents? It is our cities version of the Sunni Triangle.
It enjoyed a very long run as a topic of debate in the splash editorials, and is yet another display of the lunacy found in a large segment of the Liberty Lake residents. For those still not sure of the subject of this controversy, brace yourselves and prepare to be educated... We are talking about the intersection of Liberty Lake road and Appleway. Yes specifically, north bound travel toward the overpass. Even more specifically, the third lane from the left.
Some background information. When traving north bound on Liberty Lake Road that intersection provides a lane to turn LEFT, a lane to cross Appleway, a SECOND lane to cross Appleway, and a fourth right turn only lane.
Some mental midget wrote an editioral stating that it is RUDE for drivers heading North on Liberty Lake road to use the second lane to cross Appleway. He felt it allowed drivers to cut in front of those waiting in the LONG QUE of drivers waiting their turn to cross, who had been sitting in a backed up lane while a second and equally legal lane sits empty. News flash. Keep queing up like the lemmings you are. Wait through two or more cycles of lights. They made two lanes for a reason. To prevent traffic from backing up to country vista. On the other hand, please continue to use the one "good" lane so I can quickly cut infront of the ignorant.

Here is how it WAS DESIGNED TO WORK, and infact does work in every other city in America. Relatively equal numbers of people que up in both lanes. When you cross and it is time to MERGE most folks let one car get in front of theirs and thing move really smoothly. The system breaks down when the lemmings in the one lane are pissed off and don't let the others merge over. To you I say I will continue my practice of cutting to the front of the pack by using the other open lane. If my car is in front of your I will be signaling and I will be merging as directed by the street signs. I will merge even if you are not making room for me. If we have a collision and your car strikes mine from behind while I merging, you will be charged with failure to yield, ticketed and your insurance company will be forking over repair money for my car and also paying for the inevitable back and neck injuries I recieve as a result of the collision. Soft tissue injuries are a real bear to diagnose and treat.

So keep that que long, leave my lane open and clear and continue your display of that Liberty Lake hospitality!

Happy motoring.

Nothing screams success like a mid-1990s Mercedes 500 E. No wonder this driver felt entitled to cut

Nothing screams success like a mid-1990s Mercedes 500 E. No wonder this driver felt entitled to cut off three different cars in his imitation of Michael Schumacher racing down Haverford Rd. Channeling Schumacher on the German Autobahn, he sped up behind me flashing his high beams for me to move to the right. Never mind the fact that there was a car there and, perhaps more importantly, we were on a surface street that has a posted 35 mph speed limit.

When I didn't change lanes or speed up, he darted into the right lane, tailgated the car next to me until it moved just far enough forward that he could then cut me off as he changed into my lane. He accelerated away, belching black exhaust out of his finely tuned racing machine.

Not 200 yards later, he was stopped at the red light directly in front of me. A fat lot of good his high performance driving skills did him.

It is not yet necessary for Ferrari to appoint a number one driver for the rest of the 2008 championship, according to Felipe Massa.

The Brazilian and his teammate, reigning world champion Kimi Raikkonen, are currently tied on points at the top of the drivers' standings with McLaren rival Lewis Hamilton.

Massa told the French morning newspaper Le Figaro:

"The team does not have to make a decision as long as things are not leaning either one way or the other."

In previous years, Michael Schumacher was the undisputed number one driver, receiving the balance of the Italian marque's effort to lift the drivers' crown.

But Massa said last year he was also on equal terms with Raikkonen, until his chances took a final hit at the Italian grand prix.

"From then on, there remained a small chance for Kimi. To help him to do it, the team did everything for him, myself included.

"This time I hope it will be my turn."

In the interview, Massa also played down suggestions Ferrari may be able to vacate his seat in the near future -- perhaps by means of performance clauses.

"No. I have a contract until the end of 2010 and I feel perfectly comfortable in the team,"

Neal's View: Massa needs to get focused if he is going to challenge. All those spins at Silverstone, then he gifted Hamilton the lead in Germany.

BMW-Sauber's first track test of a KERS system for 2009 went off without a hitch, the German magazine Auto Motor und Sport reports.

The event, on July 15, took place at the German carmaker's own Miramas test circuit, with Marko Asmer at the wheel over 48 kilometres.

It is now well known that Red Bull's KERS testing resulted in a visit to its Milton-Keynes factory of the local fire department, while Honda had some teething trouble when its initial track testing - with an old car - took place on an airfield runway and subsequently at Silverstone.

BMW-Sauber's KERS track testing will step up a notch next week when Christian Klien takes to the wheel of a modified F1.08 chassis.

Willy Rampf said:

"It will be obvious that we are running the systems, but the car will have nothing to do with the car for next year."

Neal's View: As a new technology, as far as F1 goes, everything is hush-hush. Expect performance and reliability to be much improved by the time they are introduced.

Lewis Hamilton has turned a corner and is now on the right track to winning the world championship, according to former triple title winner Niki Lauda.

The great Austrian, who watched 23-year-old McLaren driver Hamilton dominantly win Sunday's German grand prix at Hockenheim, is sure the Briton is driving better even than his rookie season in 2007.

Lauda had this to say:

"Last year he was my favourite, but he screwed up in the last two races.

"I think he's got the message now, from Silverstone in a difficult race and here in a difficult race for him. He's on the right track and if he continues like this he's unbeatable."

Lauda, 59, said Hamilton's Hockenheim drive reminded him of Ayrton Senna.

Ross Brawn, the Honda team boss and former Ferrari technical director, said Hockenheim reminded him of another great.

"It was reminiscent of some of Michael (Schumacher)'s greatest drives."

Even the seven time world champion himself, Schumacher - rooting for the defeated Ferrari on the pitwall - had to applaud Hamilton's "fantastic performance" in Germany.

Neal's View: Lewis is showing some strong performances, and with the car currently the best on track, he has to be favourite.

Ross Brawn announced at the weekend that Honda will maintain the same driver lineup for the 2009 season. Both Jenson Button's and Rubens Barrichello's contracts are due to end at the end of this season and have performed well, and despite being given a dog of a car for the last few years, Barrichello managed a podium at Silverstone.

The raft of sweeping rule changes due for 2009 are set to provide a clean sheet for next season, one where BMW-Sauber, Renault, Williams-Toyota, Red Bull-Renault, Honda and Toyota aim to close the gap to Ferrari and McLaren-Mercedes.

Brawn said:

"Clearly our priority is to sort the car out, because we believe with the drivers we have, if we produce a good car then they can produce from their side.

"So we are not looking at anything major on the driver side. Our main priority is the car."

When asked whether Button, 28, and Barrichello, 36, would be racing for Honda in 2009, Brawn said:

"Yes."

Neal's View: This means that Alonso's options for 2009 are reduced, now Red Bull and Honda have announced their 2009 lineups. Honda know they have to produce a competitive car for 2009 or they will lose Jenson.

It appears as if McLaren’s new steering wheel could be behind the Woking based squad’s recent surge in form with Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen going from struggling to keep up with their rivals at Ferrari in France a month ago to winning back to back dominating victories at Silverstone and Hockenheim.

Hamilton won by over a minute in the rain soaked British Grand prix, and although he wasn’t miles ahead in Germany, he would have been if not for a safety car and the team’s decision not to pit when the rest of the field did. Instead he came in under green flag conditions several laps later, only to make his way back from fifth to first, with a few seconds to spare in just sixteen laps.

Although there is no doubt about Hamilton’s driving finesse, the domination we have seen in these recent races has left other teams scratching their heads, but it claims by the Telegraph are to be believed, the answer is quite simple.

It appears as if the MP4-23’s steering wheel is a little different from its rivals with four paddle levels instead of the regular two. Two being to change gears and the two additional levers used to adjust engine torque to suit the gear selected, helping to minimize wheel spin in slow corners but retaining speed for the fast ones. The rules indicate that drivers can not select gears and torque settings in one move, so the extra two levers must be used for the car to remain legal.

Just how long it will be before other teams use this technology, or the FIA bans it, is anyone’s guess, but if it is the reason for their upward turn in performance, you can bet it won’t take Ferrari too long to be right up there with them!

Neal's View: I'd be surprised if this was worth more than a couple of tenths per lap. The sad thing, for Ferrari fans, is the McLaren is currently more than a couple of tenths quicker!

F1 teams Toro Rosso and BMW-Sauber may be interested in accommodating rising GP2 driver Sebastien Buemi in the near future.

The Swiss daily Le Matin quotes BMW boss Mario Theissen as praising the developing talents of the 19-year-old, who is currently a test driver for Red Bull.

With Sebastian Vettel moving on to the senior team in 2009, speculation has linked Buemi's name with the vacant seat at Toro Rosso.

But Theissen may also be interested, particularly following Buemi's run of good form in GP2, the F1 feeder category.

"When he was in formula BMW, he was very young but immediately very fast.

"He can still make the odd mistake, but I am following the GP2 championship very closely and I find that Sebastien is making consistent progress."

He would not, however, be drawn on suggestions that Buemi is at the top of the list for a BMW-Sauber contract, perhaps initially as a test driver.

"Let's see how his season progresses, but I am not saying no."

Neal's View: With Hiedfeld under pressure there may be a seat at BMW for next season. Unless Kubica signs a new contract there will be a spare seat at BMW next season. A Swiss driver would satisfy the needs of the Swiss-based team, and Swiss sponsors, Credit Suisse. Toro Rosso have a spare seat after Sebastien Vettel was promoted to the Red Bull squad and the Red Bull-backed racer could be next in line.
