You would have to live under a rock to not notice that all the buildings are being painted, so naturally, I knew about it. However, the apartment manager did not distribute any notices letting the residents know. This bugs me. Whatever, as long as they are not going inside I don't care. It bugs me that they have a ladder set up on my landing and I can't really get out of my door but... whatever. They are not inside.

Since I happened to ask one of the painters, I knew that they were doing the door today. I assumed, they would not be entering my building without permission, or notice. I was wrong. Luckily, I was prepared and locked the cat in the other room. (Again, we aren't supposed to have any pets) However, it didn't look like anybody had been inside when I got home early from work. I opened my door, locked it behind me, and turned on the AC.

Meanwhile, I'm watching TV, catching up on my favorite blogs and I hear my doorknob trying to be unlocked. What the??... I'm hoping it's Tristan but I'm kind of worried about it so I wait... if it was a painter, wouldn't they knock? NOPE! It was, in fact, a painter, and he had opened the door of my home without notice, without asking, without anything. Just... entered. He apologized and said he didn't think anybody was home... Well who gives a shit if I'm home or not? Don't you provide notice or request permission first?

So... I'm pissed. Nobody told me they were going to be coming INSIDE our apartments to paint the exterior door. Nobody warned me, my apartment is a mess and I have numerous valuables lying around.I don't think they'd steal anything... but still. It's my private space. What good is an apartment if you have no privacy? I don't want somebody on my landing looking in my windows and opening the door whenever they damn well feel.

Two days ago, they draped their painters cloth over my brand new car so that they didn't splatter paint on it. Thanks guys, only next time, make sure there isn't paint on THE OTHER SIDE OF THE CLOTH! Jackasses. Also, they left their paintbrush and the lid to the paint can on top of the cloth. My brand new car is not a table for you to lay your shit on. Certainly, you would ask before you did such a thing? Wrong.

I'm pissed. I don't feel protected, I don't feel private, I don't feel happy or comfortable. My mace is a stone's throw away and yet these guys could easily overpower me if they felt the need. I doubt they even did background checks on them. As I type, they sit on my landing smoking their cigarettes, not caring that the smoke is blowing right under my door and right into my AC. Thanks assholes. Thanks a lot.

Also, work cut me after two hours into my eight hour shift. So much for making any money today. :(

I like the ads you wouldn't think the Red Cross would have something out like this, the ads are very creative and really get your attention. Getting people to sign up to donate their organs isn't the easiest topic to tackle as a designer or marketing agency, great work JWT.

As a marketing agency you've got a number of things to deal with, organ donation isn't exactly every day conversation, aside from that you're asking people to think about their mortality.

Although donating your organs is a noble and good thing to do actually going in to a Red Cross center or hospital to sign up has to be hard for most people. I myself am happy to say I've always been an organ donor since turning 18 many years ago, hopefully this campaign gets more bodies in the door to do the same.

Hi Everyone,

I hope your Summer Quarter is off to a great start!

I am initiating a project that I hope will interest you. I would like to enlist your support in helping me to collect your old cell phones (outdated, unwanted, broken, etc.) This is a simple thing that we can all do that will really make a difference both to the environment and to our students!

There are many potentially hazardous chemicals found in the phones, including antimony, arsenic, copper, cadmium, lead, and zinc. But cell phones also include an ore called coltan (columbite-tantalite) which is a source of the element tantalum that is an essential coating for components of cell phones. This ore is extracted in the deep forests of the Congo in the middle of endangered gorilla and elephant habitats. These animals are being killed by rebel bands of natives mining the ore. The U.N. has reported that in the past five years, the Eastern Lowland Gorilla population in the Congo has declined 90%. Reducing the demand for coltan will help save these animals and their habitat.

I have partnered with ECO-CELL, a company which pays organizations for collecting used cell phones, batteries, and accessories. Through their innovative program, 70% of the phones collected will be used by first-time, low income users abroad or by selected local organizations, such as Battered Women's Programs for emergency use (911 calls). ECO-CELL also runs a strict NO LANDFILL Program! All items received, including batteries, accessories, and cell phones with no resale value, will be recycled using the best demonstrated technologies for recycling e-waste. ECO-CELL will be paying for all phones collected. This money will be donated to the Ai scholarship fund.

The next time you're doing your grocery shopping, and you're picking up some kibble for your dog, or some crunchy cat food for your feline, consider purchasing an extra bag (or two) and make a stop at the nearest humane society or shelter (preferably a no-kill shelter) and give a cat or dog a chance.

Check your local listings for the shelters or Humane Society nearest you. If you're capable, make a donation, just cuz.

I am writing this to let you all know of some of our needs during this time, namely, we need to purchase a sufficient amount of Bibles (in Spanish) for our journey, along with some quality Gospel tracts. We have found some nice soft cover Bibles for $55 per case of 20 ($2.75 each). We would like to take as many Bibles as we can on this journey with us.

These Bibles will be going into the hands of those who do not own one, and most of which have never heard the Gospel presented to them. Many of the towns where they will be distributed have never had a Christian witness in their midst. Many of these people will never own a Bible unless we give it to them. So, we do not think we are out of line to humbly ask for the help of the Body of Christ. We never go around asking for money for ourselves, and these Bibles are not for us, they are for the lost people deep in the heart of Mexico that are, even as we speak, bound by the powers of darkness, by the “another gospel” of Catholicism (Galatians 1:8-9), slaves to the devil, practicing witchcraft, full of darkness and idolatry and sin of all kinds. The number of Bibles we can give out depends on the generosity of the saints in this final hour. Truly, this is an opportunity to invest in the Kingdom of God which Jesus promises will reap eternal rewards (Matthew 10:42, Luke 12:33).

We would also like to purchase 5,000 quality Gospel Tracts in Spanish that will cost $490 total. These are good tracts that are a 4-page fold-out brochure, glossy finish, attractive, and contain a thorough and sound Gospel message. So any surplus funds beyond the purchase of Bibles will go toward these tracts.

Since making this need known, the Lord has already graciously supplied a great deal through His people. We have been contacted by a person who has pledged to MATCH dollar for dollar toward the purchase of these Bibles, up to $1000 match. That means that whatever you donate right now will be doubled and enable us to purchase twice as much. This person is giving a deadline of a couple days to acquire what we can, and then will match whatever we have.

At this time, because of God’s gracious provision, we have already had $525 donated. That means that we can still receive $475 that will be matched dollar for dollar to double it. If you would like to put some Bibles into the hands of lost souls who need to know God, then you can donate whatever you will. Even if you just refrain from getting a Starbucks coffee or eating out one time will give you $5-20 of extra money that will be matched for Bibles and tracts for the Kingdom of God.

I want to truly express my gratitude to the people of God who are showing their love and generosity in these economically trying times. I am continually humbled by the Lord’s faithfulness to supply for His work, for the proclamation and demonstration of the Gospel to the lost. I have seen the love of Christ demonstrated in so many individuals since being called by God and committing to full-time missionary work, and He ALWAYS supplies our needs! And I won’t dare say “We can’t do this work without you giving”, because the fact is, it’s the Lord’s work, and HE WILL provide whether you give or not! This is just an opportunity for you to take part in it and invest in the Kingdom.

Please, I don’t want anyone to feel obligated to give to this. I know many are already hard-pressed to meet bills and payments and such, and many are already generous in giving both to us and to other worthy causes for the Kingdom’s sake. If you don’t feel led to give, then DON’T, and don‘t feel bad about it! Praise God, we’re not under Law, we’re under GRACE! God loves a cheerful (‘hilarious” in Greek) giver! So if you give, may it be with a “hilarious” and cheerful heart, or not at all!

My wife and I have forsaken all, and counted all these things of a nice American life as DUNG, that we may win Christ, and that lost souls may be turned from darkness to light, from the power of Satan to God, and receive an inheritance among those that are sanctified by faith in Jesus. We are going and putting our lives on the line to take the Gospel to these people, we are just humbly asking for bibles and tracts from those who are able and would like to give, not for us, but for these dearly precious, priceless souls.

When he told the hospital authorities about his intention, Chen said the reply he got was “It’s too late.”

More than 400 penguins, most of them young, have been found dead on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro state over the past two months, according to Eduardo Pimenta, superintendent for the state coastal protection and environment agency in the resort city of Cabo Frio.

While it is common here to find some penguins - both dead and alive - swept by strong ocean currents from the Strait of Magellan, Pimenta said there have been more this year than at any time in recent memory.

Poor little guys, as if sea lions and being really cold and having to eat regurgitated raw fish weren't enough.  I wish that on bad days I could set a "good news" filter on the RSS feed.  Spend the morning reading about neat scientific experiments and maybe a few stories on underprivileged kids getting college scholarships, then switch back to "full reality" after lunch.

On the upside, I have discovered how to take shorter showers, and I'm down to under five minutes in the morning.  This is big for me, since I used to average 10-12 minutes in there.  I'm a lingerer- plus, I had long hair, and that required at least five minutes of proper attention by itself.  Getting it all wet, shampoo, conditioner, leaving in the conditioner so it will really condition, getting it all out afterwards...

Had long hair, though.  I got a fairly drastic cut, like long-enough-to-donate drastic.  I'd been growing it out for a couple years to see what happened (it got longer and I just wore it in a bun all the time).  So yes, I'll be mailing someone my disembodied ponytail, which feels like a bad practical joke, but it does some good, so there we go.  And I realized that I need a small fraction of the shampoo and conditioner I used to, and that it takes me about a minute and a half to wash it all nicely.  Progress!  Plus, now I look adorable in hats.

My wife was lying in the bed watching TV last week. I had been in the shower, dried off, put my clothes on and was walking out of the bathroom to come to my computer room and write. My wife stopped me and asked me the following question, “Would you give up a kidney for someone?”

Without batting an eye I said, “No way!”

She asked why not! “Wouldn’t you give a kidney to one of your buddies, or a family member, or how about me?”

“I am not giving up a kidney to anyone for any reason at any time,” I told her. She asked why again!!

I figured I needed to at least give her an explanation. So this is what I told my lovely wife, “Look at this body. It is not the picture of health. The way I do things I figure I need all the parts that I have and help from some outside sources like medicines and such. I don’t think anyone would want either of my kidneys to start off with. With that said I am still not going to give up a kidney. I can see it now. I would give someone one of my kidneys. Let’s say it was you, my lovely wife. Then you have two kidneys and now I only have one. About five years down the road I get very sick and would need a kidney. You can’t give me mine back. You need it. So I’d have to wait for a donor kidney to save me. Remember, I only have one now. They would never find a good match for me. I would die a slow and agonizing death while you were doing well with the MY kidney. I would go on and die. You would get all the insurance money. People would sing my praises, my DEAD praises. You would live on with a lot of money and be able to get a young boyfriend to take care of you. All the while I’d be DEAD after dying a slow and agonizing death! They would name a race after me: The Cajunrooster Kidney Scramble. It would raise money for people who needed a kidney transplant. You would be the honorary starter for the race while I’d still be in the cemetery dead. You would be at the race in your fancy dress and Prada shoes with your new young boyfriend while I’d still be dead after dying a slow and agonizing death because they could not find a kidney for me after I gave you one years earlier. So I am going to keep both of my kidneys. I feel I am going to need them.”

For a car I was only "interested" in and canceled the whole thing within 24 hours? Why is it, that every single day I receive another letter saying I was denied a car loan due to too many recent credit inquiries? WHYYYYY must you destroy my credit every single day? Above all else, why is it, that when I call you to discuss this matter, you tell me it's impossible for me to have any financing done if I never bought a car??? Well no shit, but some how you are continuing to apply me because your name is on every single letter I receive.
