I thought about how it can be most fair to find the winner. Das zweite Geheimnis: Im Forum Handarbeitsfrau soll ein Wintertuch-Mystery-KAL laufen. Das Tuch sollen Nadja und ich entwerfen. Mein Teil wird es überwiegend sein, die einzelnen Elemente des Tuchs zu entwerfen, Nadja kümmert sich um die Anleitung.

The second Mystery: A Wintershawl-Mystery-KAL is going to start in the Handarbeitsfrau-Forum in a while. Nadja and I shall make the design. My part is to create the single motifs, Nadja will write down the patterns in a computercompatible form.

Im Moment beschäftige ich mich außerdem mit Weben. Da ich noch nciht so viel Erfahrung damit habe, ist das nicht immer so einfach. Nach intensiven Bemühungen kam aber ein ordentlicher Kettfaden für den Webrahmen heraus

I tried to make a warp and finally made it, but it took me some time because I don#t know much about weaving. It is enough to weave two carpets.

Der Kettfaden reicht aus für zwei Teppiche, und der erste entsteht gerade Stück für Stück

Hier verwebe ich Webkanten aus Klässbols Leinenweberei. Eigentlich sind sie Abfall von der Weberei mit computergesteuerten Webstühlen, aber mittlerweile versucht man auch in Klässbol, noch etwas damit anzufangen. Ich habe zum Glück letztes Jahr noch Webkanten bekommen. Die Webkanten sind so dick, dass man sie nicht "richtig" verweben kann. Ich schiebe jeweils einen Doppelfaden durch und häkele den an den Außenseiten fest.

Here I am weaving cut edges of woven fabrics from Klässbols Linnenweaving. They are like rubbish from computerassisted looms, but today they try to make something form the rubbish in Klässbol as well. I was lucky to buy some of it last year. It is so thick that you cannot "really" weave it: I push through a douoble thread and fix it on the sides by crocheting.

Und dann gibt es in diesem Haus noch Neuzugänge. Zum einen ist das Wolle über Ebay bzw. den Shop des Verkäufers. Hier ist allerfeinstes Kaschmir, Yakhaar und Babykamelhaar. Zusätzlich dazu Merino und Seide in königsblau und türkis. Und dann stand da noch dieses arme Steiffschaf auf einem Flohmarkt, aber das wollte viel lieber auf einer Wiese stehen

And there is something new again in this household. Some wool came to here via Ebay, plus some from the shop of the seller. Finest Cashmere, yak and babycamel plus merino and silk in blue and turquoise. And then there stood this poor Steiff-sheep on a fleamarket, but it wanted rather to stand on a lawn.

Gammelvala = die alte Welt / the old world

Gammelvala findet seit 1963 jedes Jahr Ende Juli in Brunskog/Skutboudden, Gemeinde Arvika statt. Am 25. Juli, unserem Silberhochzeitstag, besuchten wir Gammelvala.

Gammelvala takes place in Brunskog/Skutboudden in Arvika community every year in the end of July since 1963.

In dem kleinen Ort Brunskog treffen sich viele Freiwillige, die für 8 Tage das Rad der Zeit um über 100 Jahre zurückdrehen. Dargestellt wird das Leben und Arbeiten in der Zeit von etwa 1880 bis 1900. Aber man hält sich nicht knechtisch an diese Zeitvorgabe, es dürften z.B. auch jüngere Geräte gezeigt werden. Auf dem großen Gelände am See Värmeln kann man von einem Lebensbereich zum anderen wandern. Überragt wird die Szene von der Kirche in Brunskog.

But 1900 is not a deadline, technical equipment of the years after may be shown as well. In the large area next to the lake Värmlen you can walk from one area of life to another. Der Bereich Textilverarbeitung ist umfangreich vertreten. So kann man beim Spinnen zuschauen oder beim Påstickning / manz ways of working on textiles are presented. You can eg watch women spinning or doing påstickning

Die Wollfärberei findet am See Värmeln statt / dyeing wool is done close to the Värmeln

Und in der näheren Umgebung gibt es weitere Tätigkeiten wie filzen, aber auch waschen mit Birkenasche oder bügeln. / Nearby are activities like felting, but also washing textiles with birch ashes and ironing.

In der Webstube möchte man sich gleich auch an einen Webstuhl setzen und mitweben / in the room with the looms you feel like sitting down and weaving as well

und besonders beeindruckend war der Damastweber am am 24-schäftigen Webstuhl

Kaum zu glauben, dass man da die Übersicht behalten kann. Auch bei der mühsamen Flachsbearbeitung kann man zuschauen. / hard to believe that he really manages to overview what he is weaving.

Das sind Söckchen und Mützchen für Frühgeborene. Im Moment besuche ich täglich meinen Mann im Krankenhaus (deshalb ist es auch ein bisschen ruhig hier), und in diesem Krankenhaus gibt es auch eine große Frühgeborenen-Intensivstation. Dort kann man immer Kleidung aus Sockenwolle gebrauchen, weil die bei 60 Grad waschbar ist. Also nadele ich fleißig Minisöckchen und gebe gelegentlich dort welche ab.

Ich möchte noch einiges von unserem Urlaub berichten, aber ich werde das tun, wenn ich wieder die innere Ruhe dazu habe. Ansonsten sind hier schon mal alle Fotos.

Well, I am still alive and knitting. And something to knit is always nearby. This is what I knit right now: Little socks and hats for perinatals. Right now I visit my husband in hospital every day (which is the reason that it is a bit quiet in here), and in that hospital they also have a department with a perinatal centre for intensive care. They always need clothing made form sockwool, which can be washed at 60°C. So I am knitting some pairs of miniature socks and give those to them by and by.

I still want to report a bit about our holidays, but I don't feel calm enough now to do so, but I promise to do it later. All photos are uploaded.

Our holiday in Sweden was very nice and relaxing. Värmland is a Län (part of a state) at the border to Norway with Oslo on the other side of the broder being pretty close. Textile production has always been done in this region, so it is ideal for woolomanics for a holiday.

Natürlich findet man dort auch andere Wollsüchtige, und zwei von Ihnen habe ich getroffen. Barbro aus Hammarö, in deren Blog ich schon seit Jahren lese, kam uns in Sölje besuchen, und wir sind zusammen zu zwei Schafzüchtern gefahren, um Rohwolle zu kaufen. Barbro ist genaus wolljeck wie ich, das ist einfach nur toll. In der Spinngruppe hat man mich schon schräg angeschaut, weil ich sobald ich Rohwolle erblicke, ein paar Fasern herausziehe und zu einem Faden drehe. Und in Barbro habe ich nun endlich eine Spinnerin gefunden, die das genauso macht, Sellenverwandtschaft eben. Barbro hat einige Fotos gemacht (siehe Beitrag vom 2008-07-29). Wir haben uns bei Yvonne Nyström länger aufgehalten und ihre Werke in Nalbinding bewundert. Sie ist eine Künstlerin darin. Barbro und Yvonne hatten sich schon auf Handarbeitsveranstaltungen gesehen, aber nie miteinander gesprochen. Barbro hat auch mein Spinnrad Ella getestet und festgestellt, dass sie auch unbedingt so ein Spinnrad haben muss.

Of course there live woolomanics in that area as well, and I met two of them. With Barbro from Hammarö, who came over to Sölje, I visited sheep owners in the area and we bought some fresh wool. Barbro is as crazy about wool as I am, that is just marvelous. In our spinning group the others made fun of me, because i have to draw out some fibres as soon as I see wool and spin a tiny thread from them. Now I finally found a soul sister who does the same, that is just GREAT!!!. Barbro took some photos (see her report from 2008-07-29). we spent a bit more time at Yvonne Nyström's home, who is an artist at Nalbinding. Barbro and Yvonne saw each other before on handicraft fairs, but never talked to each other. Barbro also testet my Ella spinningwheel and found out that she absolutely must have one as well.

Eine Woche später haben wir dann Barbro auf Hammarö besucht und ich konnte ihr tollen Stricksachen, Färbereien, Spinnräder und den Webstuhl bewundern. Außerdem sind wir in einen netten kleinen gut sortierten Woll-Laden gefahren, und an der wunderschönen Wolle von Kampes kam ich natürlich nicht vorbei. Sooooo viele schöne Farben, aber das Rosa wollte dann doch unbedingt mit

Die Kampes-Wolle ist weicher als Kauni, Evilla und Ölandwolle, und die Farbkombinationen sind alle einfach nur toll. Es gibt auch Uniwolle, und außerdem ist die Wolle noch preiswerter als die Konkurrenz. Links auf dem Foto sieht man tolle Sockenwolle, die Barbro gefärbt und mir geschenkt hat, rechts ist Lacegarn, dass ich auf Gammelvala (später mehr zu Gammelvala) günstig erworben habe.

A week later we visited Barbro on Hammarö. So I had the chance to admire all her great knittings, dyeings, spinningwheels and loom. We also went to a nice smal woolshop and I could not help but buying some of that wonderful wool of Kampes. Among the many wonderful colours, the pink wool decided it hat to join me on my way home. It is softer than Kauni, Evilla and Öland wool. It also comes as single colours and is fortunately even cheaper than the wool of the competitors. On the left side of the photo you can see wool which Barbro dyed, I got it from her as a present. On the right is lacewool from Gammelvala (about Gammelvala I will report later).

In den letzten Urlaubstagen habe ich Bim(Britt-Marie) getroffen. Wir haben nach zwei Wochen ungeplant unsere Unterkunft gewechselt und sind von Sölje nach Lilla Årbotten umgezogen, was nur 3 km von Bim entfernt ist. Bim war während der drei Wochen, in denen wir in Värmland waren, selber zwei Wochen verreist, sie war in Tunesien. Zum Glück hat es doch noch geklappt, dass wir uns getroffen haben. Ich habe sie in Sjöbacka-Seehügel besucht. Was für eine tolle Aussicht auf den Gunnern. Sie hat einige Fotos gemacht und schon mehrfach über unsere Treffen berichtet, hier und hier und hier . Außerdem kam sie uns in unserer Stuga besuchen. Wir hatten schon im Winter verabredet, dass sie spinnen lernt

und ich hatte ihr Coburger Fuchsschafwolle zum Üben mitgebracht. Die kleinste Übersetzung beim Ella ist 1:10, das ist ganz schön schwierig für den Anfang. Wie schon im Winter verabredet habe ich nach dem Fehler in ihrem Mystic Waters gesucht, ca. in Reihe 225 waren plötzlich zwei Maschen zu viel im mittleren Bereich. Es hat ein Weilcihen gedauert, aber irgendwann hatte ich den kniffeligen Fehler gefunden und beseitigt. Nun strickt sie weiter, und die Lacewolle mit der sie strickt ist wirklich toll. Ich habe dieses Tuch schon zweimal gestrickt, aber ich hatte das Gefühl, es bald nochmal stricken zu müssen - dieses Muster macht süchtig!!!

In the last two days I met Bim(Britt-Marie). She already reported about our meetings in her blog. After two weeks we changed our accomodation - unplanned - and moved into a stuga/cottage in Lilla Årbotten, which is just 3 kilometres from Sjöbacke/lakehill. While our 3 week stay in Värmland Bim was in holiday in Tunesia for two weeks herself, still we finally managed to meet. They have a wonderful view on the lake Gunnern from their house. She took some photos and reported already about our meeting here and here and here. In winter we talked about that she wanted to learn spinning, which she did now, as you can see. It is not easy to learn spinning with a fast wheel with a minimum ration of 1:10, still she managed pretty well, as you can see on the result. I also saved her Mystic Waters shawl, as promised in winter. Two tiny little stitches were so creepy to turn up unwanted in row 225 in the middle section, hiding pretty well. so it took me some time to find and eliminate them. Now Bim knits again with that wonderful lace wool she chose for this shawl. I have knitted this shawl already twice, but looking at the pattern again gave me the urgent need to knit is again some day. This pattern is absolutely addictive.

We are back from our holiday trip. The .luggage was sorted out pretty fast, but the wool takes some more time, and thephotos will take some time as well to be processed and uploaded. So please be a bit patient with me, you will get some inforamtion here for sure pretty soon.

My daughter wanted a felted blue hat, and there was enough wool to make another one for me. The pattern is from Nordic Felted Knits. The second photo shows the Zetor Shawl that I am working on. On the third you can see wool I spun from my dyed wool left front, twisted with some bought thin cotton thread.

Don't wonder if it gets quiet here during the next weeks. Tomorrow my husband and I will set of to Sweden for holidays/journey because of our silver wedding. House and wool stash will be guarded by our cats, our daughter and her boyfriend.

Links ein Buch mit Strickfilz-Modellen. Es ist einfach nur toll. Zwei Hüte sind drin, da werde ich wohl mal einen Hut strickfilzen. Eigentlich wollte ich irgendwann mal was selber entwerfen, aber der Hut in diesem Buch ist genau das, woran ich gedacht habe. Schöne Hausschuhe gibt es, dazu noch gefilzte Pullover und Taschen. Für mich ist das Buch jetzt schon ein "Must Have". Rechts ist noch ein wenig Urlaubslektüre.

Und rechts oben ist meine neue Brille, ausnahmsweise habe ich "Markenware" gekauft, weil die einfach am besten aussah. Der Markenname "Replay" steht zum Glück ziemlich klein drauf. Die alte Brille wog 38 Gramm, die neue wiegt 24 Gramm. Das macht beim Tragegefühl einen Riesenunterschied. Eigentlich trage ich Kontaktlinsen, da brauche ich die Brille selten. Aber vielleicht benutze ich die neue Brille doch mal öfters, die sieht einfach toll aus. Die alte Brille war schon 16 Jahre alt, und die Kurzsichtigkeit hatte sich in letzter Zeit verändert (und dann brauchte ich direkt noch neue Gläser für meine Notfallbrille für die Handtasche) . Zu meiner großen Überraschung allerdings nicht zu niedrigeren Werten, was bei zunehmender Alterssichtigkeit eigentlich normal wäre, sondern die Brillengläser links sind stärker als die letzten. Kontaktlinsen hatte ich seit 1 1/2 Jahren schwächere, deshalb mussten auch die angepasst werden. Blöderweise ist die Hornhautverkrümmung links mehr geworden, was zu einem häufig tränenden Auge geführt hat. Jetzt habe ich eine Spezial-Kontaktlinse, und ich merke sofort, dass das besser für mein Auge ist. So eine Brille ist ja nicht gerade billig, und Kontaktlinsen ja auch nicht, aber mein Augenoptiker , dessen Serivce auch super ist, ließ mit sich verhandeln, so dass ich günstiger wegkam als bei den beiden großen Augenoptiker-Ketten. Beim "Optiker um die Ecke" waren Brillen und Kontaktlinsen in weniger als 48 Stunden abholbereit. Bei der Konkurrenz hätte ich bis zu 10 Tagen warten müssen. Und wenn ich mich mal zu etwas Neuem entschlossen habe, finde ich das ziemlich lange.

I am having holidays now, and I used the morning yesterday to relax and surf a bit at Amazon. And, as you can imagine, I found something nice. And the delivery was amazingly fast, 23 hours and 19 minutes without any extra payment. The book on the left is just great. I always thought abou knitfelting a hat, and there are two of them in the book. So I don't have to make a pattern myself, which I thought abou, but I can take these patterns. In the book you can find nice felted slippers, sweaters and bags as well. After I got it, I really have to declare it as my personal "Must Have". On the right is another book for the holidays.

On top right are my new glasses. Usually I don't really buy brand names, but these were the glasses which just fitted best, so I bought some of Replay. Fortunately the printing pf the brand on the glasses i rather small. The old glasses weighed 38 grams, the new onse weigh 24 grams. That doesn't seem a lot, but when you wear them, it definitely is a huge difference. Usually I wear lenses, so I don't use the glasses a lot. But after 16 years it was time to get new ones (and new glasses in the glasses that I always carry in my bag). As I get older, the dioptre of me as a shortsighted person should get less, so the lenses were a bit weaker that I got in 2006. But strangely I need stronger glasses again. And the astigmatism in the left eye changed as well. So I got a special lense for my left eye now, which is just great. Of course glasses and lenses aren't cheap, but my Optician "right around the corner" , who always has a perfect service, offered a good price and was cheaper than the big chains spreading out all over the country. And I had to wait less than 48 hours to get my new stuff, the chains would have let me wait for about 10 days. I really appreciate that fast delivery, because I hate to wait for a long time when I decided to buy something.

Ansonsten sind Holzarbeiten im Garten angesagt, und heute ist ein neues Gerät angekommen, das ich nicht mehr missen möchte, ein Holzspalter:

The irises next to our mini-pond are in blossoms. They are some of the few plants that the slugs dont want to destroy.

Otherwise there is a lot of chopping wood in the garden, since this afternoon with the help of a machine, which works really fine. It is really a great thing and making firewood goes really fast now.

There is still a lot of work before the summer holidays. Still I needed to do some spinning last weekend. I bought the wool from Marianne from Holland, it is mohair from her goats which she dyed. The wool weighs 260 grams and has a length of abaout 950 metres.

Heute war ein extremes wetter hier. Wir haben noch Glück gehabt, aber weiter westlich sah es schimm aus. Wie sich das Wetter auf Satellitenfotos und bei den Anzeigen von Photovoltaikanlagen darstellte, kann man hier nachlesen. Wenn man sich dei Satellitenfots anschaut kann man gut erkennen, wie knapp wir an einem Tornado vorbeigegangen sind, da haben wir hier in der region echt noch Glück gehabt.

West of my area was a horrible weather today. Have a look at the links to see some photos. The clouds seen from a satellite looked like a tornado, we were lucky there did not start any. several thunderstorm areas met southwest from us and forem thunderstorm clouds with a height of about 10000 metres (30000 feet). Düsseldorf an some other towns were completely dark one hour before noon. I am not really keen to see a repetition of this weather. I hope it will really as unique as it was said to be.

Finally Spring ist coming. The magnolia buds are opening, still being marked brown by some frost.

Der letzte Teil vom Mystic Light shawl ist gerade hochgeladen worden, jetzt weiß ich also, was ich in den nächsten zwei Tagen stricken werde.

Ich bin schon gespannt auf den letzten Teil. Dieser war etwas lästig zu stricken, aber irgendwann war ich doch im Rhythmus und es ging schneller.

This is my part 4 of the Mystic Light Shawl. I am already looking forward to the last part. This part was not so easy to knit, but after I got the rhythm knitting went on faster.

In den letzten Tagen sind die Handarbeiten zu kurz gekommen. Ich wollte ja doch mal ein bisschen html lernen, um an der Homepage unserer Photovoltaik-Anlage rumbasteln zu können. Ich habe mich ehrlich gesagt sehr schwer damit getan, irgendwie entspringt dieses html mit Sicherheit NICHT weiblicher Logik (das grenz ja schon fast an frauenfeindlich, lach). Irgendwann ist dann der Knoten geplatzt und ich war dank tatkräftiger Hilfe aus dem Photovoltaik-Forum in der Lage, neue Links einzufügen und komplette neue Seiten zu basteln. Hier ist das (vorläugige) Ergebnis: Montage Tag 1 und Montage Tag 2 .  Die übergeordnete Seite hat mir netterweise ein Computerprofi aus dem Forum gebastelt. Nun kann ich immer nachschauen, wie ich weitermachen muss. Wenn man erst mal das Grundprinzip verstanden hat, kann man sich Stück für Stück den Rest selber beibringen.

Nein, ich bin kein Technikprofi, gewiss nicht. Deshalb stoße ich ja immer wieder an Grenzen, wo ich nicht weiterkomme, und das ärgert mich. Und diese Grenzen gilt es zu überwinden, was mir mit meiner ersten Homepage-Programmmierung in einem Bereich mal wieder gelungen ist. Wenn ich etwas gelernt habe, und es dann doch zu lästig finde, kann ich das ja immer noch anderen überlassen. Hauptsache ich weiß, wie es geht.

I did not do a lot with wool in the last days. I wanted to do some changes on the homepage of my PV cells so I had to learn a bit of html. This was definitely not easy, and I am SURE that hmtl was made by men, because it doesn't match the female sense of logic. With help of some members of the photovoltaic forum I mamages to creat some sides (see links above, not in English yet). 

I am definitely no nerd concerning engineering, that is why I always get to barriers which I seem unable to pass., which keeps annoying me. But I WANT to pass these  barriers, which I managed again with my first homepage programming in one area. If I find out that things I learned are inconvenient to do myself; I leave it to the specialsists afterwards. I just want to know how stuff works.

Dies ist meine selbstgefärbte und selbstgesponnene Wolle für den heute startenden KAL, sieht sie nicht fast aus wie eine Sonne bei all dem Schnee, der uns jetzt umgibt? Die Zeit dieses Knitalongs wird eine ganz besondere für uns sein, wir werden das Licht in Zukunft in besondererer Weise ausnutzen. Wer gerne wissen möchte warum, die/der liest einfach weiter.

This is my selfdyed and selfspun wool for the KAL starting today, doesn't it resemble a sun, reagrding all the snow that is just around us? The time of the knitalong will be special to us, we will use thelight in a special way in the future. If you want to know why then just read on below.

Mir gefallen Annas Muster, deshalb habe ich mich sofort am 15. Januar zum Mystic Light Knitalong angemeldet. Das ist aber schon laaaaange her. Denn mittlerweile hat sich viel ereignet. Ende Januar wurde bei uns ein Werbeprospekt für Kaminöfen eingeworfen. Eher gelangweilt blätterte ich den durch, bevor er seinen Weg zum Altpapier gehen sollte. Aber es kam anders. In dem Prospekt waren nämlich wasserführende Kaminöfen zu sehen. Wenn wir hier unseren Kaminofen angemacht hatten und es mollig warm wurde, dann hatte es uns schon immer geärgert, dass wir nur unseren Teil des Hauses damit heizen konnten. Und dann dies: Man kann mit dem Kaminofen oder Kamin das gesamte Haus beheizen und Heizöl durch Holz ersetzen. Holz ist umgewandelte Sonnenenergie und ein umweltschonender Weg, das Haus zu heizen. Wenn der Kamin befeuert wird, dann wird Wasser erwärmt, das direkt ins Heizungssystem geht. Also können wir mit dem Kamin das ganze Haus heizen und Warmwasser bereiten. Wenn wir in Zukunft Kaminwärme haben wollen, müssen wir die Heizkörper aufdrehen. Wir haben uns jetzt endgültig für einen Normatherm wasserführenden Kamin entschieden.

Aber es war ein langer Weg, zu dieser Entscheidung zu kommen. Der Wirkungsgrad und automatische Steuerung über einen Bimetallschieber sowie geringe Abstrahlungswärme in den Raum, die auch im sommer Warmwasserbereitung über Holz ermöglicht, führten zu dieser Entscheidung.

Wir hatten immer wieder darüber nachgedacht, Solarthermie zu nutzen, um Heizungswasser zu erwärmen. Aber letztendlich wären größere Veränderungen am Heizungssystem notwendig gewesen, damit Solarthermie effizient arbeiten kann. Somit werden wir Solarthermie nicht nutzen, und nun ist das Dach frei für eine große Photovoltaik-Anlage. Ich habe gestern noch ein neues Angebot bekommen, wir werden stärkere Module aufs Dach bekommen, jeweils 235 Watt, und die gesamte Anlage wird eine Leistung von 11,28 Kilowatt haben und doppelt so viel Strom erzeugen, wie wir verbrauchen.

Der Zeitraum des Knitalongs ist für uns so spannend, weil in dieser Zeit hoffentlich der Einbau des Kamins und die Montage der Photovoltaik-Anlage stattfinden wird. Wenn der 5. Clue veröffentlicht wird, kann ich diesen hoffentlich ganz entspannt stricken, weil dann alles fertig ist. Vorher werde ich noch viel Arbeit wegen der Projekte haben.

I like Anna's patterns, that is why I immediately signed in for the Mystic Light Knitalong on January 15th. But that is a loooong time ago. In the end of January I found some ad brochure about stove sin my postbox. I thumbed throught he brochure rather bored before I wanted to put it away for recycling. But then I saw water-bearing fireplaces in the brochure. I did not know that such thing exists. When we fired the stove in our livingroom and it became pretty warm in here we were always irritated that we couldn't heat the whole house with it. And now this: You can heat the whole house from your fireplace and replace oil by firewood. wood is converted energy of the sun and a very environmentally friendly way to heat the house. We will be able to heat the whole house plus hot water with wood. If we want to feel the warmth of the fireplace in the future, we will have to put on the radiators. We now definitely decided to buy a Normatherm water-bearing fireplace. The high efficiency and an automatic fire control by a bimetal slider as well as low heat radiation into the room lead to this decision.

We often thought about solarthermics, but we would have to make costly changes on our heating system to make solarthermics really efficient for us. As we decided against it, the whole roof is free for a photovoltaics installation now. Just last night I got an offer for stronger modules, each will have 235 watts, the whole roof will have a capacity of 11.28 kilowatts and produce twice as much electricity as we need.

The period of time od the KAL will be thrilling for us, because the installation of the water-bearing fireplace and the photovoltaics will hopefully take place during that time and even more hopefully be finished when the last clue is published, so that I can finish it completely relaxed. Before, the projects will still take a lot of my time.

Eastermonday, and it is still a bit whiter outside. At least the cats seem to have fun, which can be proved by their footprints in the snow.

Christmas we waited for some snow, but now we don't really need it any more.

Vor einigen Wochen haben wir die Birke schneiden lassen, sie stand zu sehr im Wind und ich hatte bei jedem Sturm Angst, dass sie auf einem der Nachbarhäuser oder unserem Haus landet. Noch tritt Birkenwasser aus den Schnitten aus, das bei der Kälte bizarre Skulpturen bildet:

A few weeks ago we let our birch tree be cut. It was much too high and whenever there was a strom I wa svery scared it might fall on the neighbouring or our own house. There is still some birch liquid flaoting out of the cuts and with the frost it formed some bizarre sculptures.

Hagel!!! Binnen einer Minute war alles weiß!!!

The SOTSii caught a break with sun between showers of rain, but thta's what my garden and hedge looked like 24 hours later: hail!!!! Everything was white and covered with hail within a minute!!!

Allerdings wird meine Jacke länger als auf der Vorlage, ich stricke mit selbstgesponnener Space.

Ansonsten sind wir immer noch in der Planung für unseren Heizungsumbau, dafür geht viel Zeit drauf. Der Markt für wasserführende Kamin ist extrem unübersichtlich. Immerhin sind wir in unseren Entscheidungen schon so weit gekommen, dass wir einen Kamineinsatz installieren lassen, weil der mehr Leistung hat. Dann bauen wir selber einen Kamin drum herum. Das wird bestimmt interessant, da sind der Kreativität kaum Grenzen gesetzt. Der Gedanke, dass man die meiste Zeit des Jahres mit Holz statt mit Heizöl beheizen kann, ist schon toll. Im Moment gefällt uns dieser Kamineinsatz.

I was time to start knitting on UFOs again, so I am working on this cardigan from selfspun Space roving again, mine will just be a bit longer.

We are still planning on the modification of our central heating, which takes a lot of time. The market for water-bearing fireplace boilers is hard to overview. At the moment we have the impression that this one could be right for us. The fireplace boiler itsself will be installed by an installer, but we will build the stones etc. around it. I think it will be very thrilling to do creative work like that and I am looking forward to that. And the idea that we will be able to heat the house with loggs for the most part of the year is thrilling as well.

Watteweich und leicht zu spinnen. Heute vor 25 Jahren hat mein Mann dann gleich gezittert, denn da hatte ich meine Mandeloperation und war froh, die blöden Dinger endlich loszuwerden. Er hatte wirklich mehr Angst als ich.

Heute werden wir Kaminöfen besichtigen. Wir haben zwar schon einen, aber der soll ersetzt werden durch einen speziellen Kaminofen, den man an die Heizungsanlage anschließt, um den Ölverbrauch zu reduzieren. Es ist gar nicht so einfach, den richtigen Ofen zu finden. Heute werden wir uns einen

anschauen. Den gibt es auch in Specksteinausführung, hinten links in der Ecke (ohne das obere Fach), der würde mir schon sehr gefallen. Zu entscheiden, ob die technische Seite auch zur Heizungsanlage passt, ist allerdings sehr kompliziert. Immerhin erfüllen neue Kaminöfen die Feinstaubrichtlinien bis über 2025 hinaus. So ein Ofen ist also sehr umweltfreundlich. Und man kann die lokalen Holzbauern unterstützen.

Yesterday DH and I did a nice walk on the same route that we took exactly 25 years ago, when we decided that we belong together. The storm Kyrill that buffeted our area in January 2007 also left bad damages in those woods, many hills don't have a single tree left where you could finde nice forests before. Close to the parking area was a shop on a farm where they sell sheep products. I got some wool from Coburger Foxsheep, originally from Finkhof, which you can see on the photo. 25 years ago today DH was very anxious to lose me, because I had my  tinsillectomy, and he was much more afraid than I was.

Otherwise we think about changing the system of our central heating. We want to buy a stove for domestic water heating to reduce our consumption of oil. Finding the right stove is not as easy as I thought. We will visit a specialist today to take a look at this stove which is also availabe in soapstone (in the left corner, without the compartment on top), I would liek that one a lot. It is rather difficult to decide if a stove meets the technical specifications that are necessary for our system. All new stoves meet the new laws for fine particulates beyond the year 2025, so they are pretty environmentally friendly. And the local forest farmers need to sell their products.

Und dann habe ich mit meinem Mann gewettet, dass wir die ersten Huflattiche sehen werden. Ich muss mir nur noch überlegen, welche Preis ich für den Gewinn dieser Wette haben möchte

Ich mag diese Blumen sehr, weil sie den frühling ankündigen. Und in unserem Garten blühen jetzt die ersten Krokusse.

The sun finally found its way back to us, that was really urgent!!! Here are some impressions for our walk in early spring this afternoon. The first bees were dancing in the sun, and the ducks live on the pond next to them. A tree stump offered different shades of green with all the mosses living on it. And then, we found them: horsefoots!!!! First just one, then two, and then a field of them. My DH lost the bet, he thought we would not find any. I still have to think about what could be my win.

My second Mystic Waters is finished, at least the knitting. I will dye it today. The shawl isn't blocked yet on this photo.

Ansonsten waren die letzten Tag sehr stressig. Leider bekommen wir entgegen der Zusagen der Automobilindustrie für unser jetziges Auto, einen Volvo V40, keinen Dieselpartikelfilter. Also muss das Auto verkauft werden, solange es noch ein bisschen Wert hat. Mein Arbeitsplatz liegt in einem gebiet, was bald Umweltzone wird. So haben wir die letzten Tage damit zugebracht, den Automarkt zu durchforsten um herauszubekommen, was für ein Auto es sein soll. Wir sind beide keine Autojecken. Und in dem neuen gebrauchten Auto ist natürlich viel Platz für Wolle und Spinnräder, dennoch braucht es wenig Benzin.

The last days were full of stress. We found out that Volvo doesn't stick to the promises that the automotive industry made, they wont produce a filter for our Diesel. So it was time to change car, because the place were I work will be in an environmentally marked area soon and Diesels without filter wont have access to there for long any more. So we had to see what kind of cars are on the market and find out which car is good for us. We both are not mad about cars, it just has to consume little petrol/gasoline. We found a car like that, and it offers enough space for lots of wool and spinning wheels.

Das ist das Vasamuseum in Stockholm. Die Vasa ist ein Schiff, dass im 30-jährigen Kireg die Geschicke Schwedens verbessern sollte, allerindgs sank sie auf der Jungfernfahrt im Stockholmer Hafen. Nachdem die Vasa viel länger als geplant in einem Trockendock im Stockholmer Hafen lag, hat man ihr dieses Museum gebaut.

Schmap is a worldwide online travel guide. I was asked again if I will give the permission to use one of my photos in that guide. This time it is a photo from Stockholm, the Vasa Museum. The Vasa was a war ship that sank in the Stockholm harbour in 1628. The second photo was taken on the same day in autumn 2001 and shows the festival hall Globen. The autumn light in the beginning haze looks quite cool. You can view more of my photos taken in Sweden in 2001 here .

 The first pair of socks of the year 2008 is finished, knitted with selfspun wool, 2 plies Jacob sheep wool, one ply synthetics, the pattern is my own idea.

Wegen einer doofen Erkältung, die sich nicht sehr gut mit meinem Asthma verträgt, sitze ich nur im Haus und habe viel Zeit zu spinnen:

Links oben in hellgrau Marys Wiesenmix, gekauft bei Tinka, darunter Coburger Fuchsschaf, dann Zwartebles und rechts ein Pfund Ashford Alpaka/Corriedale ( noch nicht im Entspannungsbad gewesen). Die hellgraue Wolle hatte ich zunächst für Socken verplant, aber sie ist viel zu weich dafür.

The stupid cold which doesn't really match to my asthma makes me stay indoors all the time, which gives me a lot of time for spinning: left on top the grey wool is Mary's meadowmix bought at Tinka's onlineshop, beneath Coburger Foxsheep, the dark brown is Zwartebles and to the right a pound of Ashford Alpaca/Corriedale (not bathed yet). I first thought using the grey wool for socks, but it is much too soft for that.

Winter is still around, as you can see at our frozen mini-pond, but it is at least sunny today and our view from the garden down to the medieval church and over to the mountain Bilstein is quite nice.
