O autor do artigo é o Ádrian Lívio. Vou reproduzir aqui o principal com algumas adaptações minhas:

sudo apt-get install dictd dict dict-freedict-eng-por dict-freedict-por-eng dict-jargon

sudo apt-get install gnome-utils

3. Para configurarem, façam o seguinte: executem:

sudo gnome-dictionary

4. Ou vão em:

Editar->Preferências->Adicionar

Pronto :)
Só usar :)

My brother lives in a Browntone in Philadelphia. What type of house is this? A Brownstone is typically a row house, often times found in larger cities. There are some brownstones in downtown Denver
and also some in Colorado Springs around the Broadmoor Hotel.

What is a building code? Building codes are set up by cities, counties, and states and are used to provide minimum building standards. They also help ensure that the buildings construction is safe. In Colorado Springs and Monument, the building code is enforced by the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department. In Woodland Park, the building code is enforced by the Teller County Building Department

The newspaper said it is a Buyer's market. What does this mean? The newspaper is referring to a situation where there are more houses on the market than there are buyers, essentially supply exceeds demand. Markets vary neighborhood by neighborhood, consequently there can be both a Buyer's Market and a Seller's Market in the same city.

My Realtor in Colorado Springs said I can submit a back-up offer on a property, not sure I understand what this is? A back-up offer means that the seller has already accepted one offer, and a back-up offer will be in a secondary position.

What is the difference between a basement and crawl space? A basement is classified as a full-story height area below the exterior grade. In Colorado, the majority of newer homes are built with a basement

Why did I get a bill of sale at closing? A bill of sale is typically used in Colorado real estate transactions to transfer ownership of personal property. As an example, if you bought furniture that was in the house, you may have received a bill of sale at closing to show the transfer of ownership of the personal property.

I'm buying a house in October, but my other home isn't scheduled to close until November. Can I get some type of short-term loan? You may be able to qualify for a bridge loan, which is a short-term loan. Talk to a mortgage broker of a banker to find out your options.

Why do I need a building permit when I finish my basement? A building permit is required to insure that the plans are in accordance with the building codes of the city, county, and state. The final project is typically inspected at different intervals to monitor compliance.

I'm trying to buy a property listed as a short-sale, and the bank has told my Realtor that they need a BPO. What does this mean? A BPO is a Broker's Price Opinion and used to establish the value of a property.

What is a buy-down? In Colorado, builders will use this financing technique to reduce monthly payments during the initials years of the loan.

Did you know there is a way to access dictionary through terminal? It is accomplished by using DICT protocol. According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DICT):

"DICT is a dictionary network protocol created by the DICT Development Group. It is described by RFC 2229. Its goal is to surpass the Webster protocol and to allow clients to access more dictionaries during use. Dict servers and clients use TCP port 2628."

To try it out, open up your terminal and enter this line:

curl dict://dict.org/d:word_for_lookup

In the following example I've used word "seldom":

Ah, went back to work after yesterday's graduation. Its been a bit of a slow day, not to mention that I think I'm falling ill. Oh well.

Graduation day was a BLAST. Its probably the last time I'd get to see my classmates for quite some time. The guys are gonna head off to the Shangri-La Tekong. Most of the girls aren't going university yet, so it looks like I'll be on my own going into NUS.

I'll be looking forward to the next phase of my education. Finally, I think I really get to delve in depth to what I am interested in. Yeah, I'll be crossing out of my IT major in Poly, and moving into something different. And honestly, I am thrilled by it.

Our EEE director didn't seem disappointed nor surprised to hear that. In fact, he encouraged me to pursue something that is my passion.

However, there are still a few kinks to work out in this new arrangement. I hope I'd be able to work it out and stay on course for NUS.

I just finished my first post and am already moving on to the second one. This is almost fun.

I have to share this tip. I'm so happy with myself for this. Here goes: If you have the need to understand exactly what you're reading, then you probably use a dictionary quite frequently. The Mac comes with a great one. However, you have to open the app up, and then look up the word to find its definition. I thought it'd be great to have Growl, the notifier, to display the definition, and started to look for one. Luckily, Growl makes one. It's now discontinued, but it works perfectly and is still downloadable. This is short how-to guide to make it work for you.

Firstly, go to growl website and download it. In the package, look for GrowlDict, and install it according to the documentation. After you restart, you can use shift+cmd+f in Cocao apps to find the definition of hightlighted words. With this, you don't even have to open the app nor go into Dashboard to find the definition.

I figured out a way to use this with non-Cocao apps too. For this, you will need Quicksilver, the amazing superapp that should be installed on every Mac. You will need both the Clipboard and Growl Plug-in module installed.
After this, you will need to create your own trigger. In the trigger pane, create a new trigger.
Type in "Clip..." until you see "Clipboard Contents" for the first section, then "Lookup Word" for the second section. Then assign a shortcut for this trigger. I used opt+cmd+C. Why? Because the way this trigger works is it will look up whatever word that you just copied into the slipboard. So to use it, you highlight a word, you hit cmd+c, the opt+cmd+c, and tada, the definition shows up in Growl!

Happy learning new words.
