"Admiral Mike McConnell, America's director of national intelligence,
revived doubts about a much-publicised intelligence estimate on IRAN
issued in December. He stressed that Iran had apparently halted only
its effort to design nuclear warheads, which he said were "probably the
least significant part of the programme". He told the Senate
Intelligence Committee that Iran still posed a potential nuclear threat
as it was continuing to enrich uranium."

Being alone not just in my room, but in the entire “Anand-Dhaam” building and posting on my blog was certainly not what I wanted to do when 2007 is drawing to a close and the new year is about to begin. Not that Im a party animal and would have partied till I drop had I been in Belgaum. I wouldn’t do that even if Im paid for doing that! But then, I would have loved calling over Nammu to my place for d night, trying our hand at some new dish or making her prepare Thepla & Tomoto Rice, chatting with Aaiju Baba and doing timepass, watching some masala flick on the TV and then Me & Nammu in my room going Yak Yak Yak till the wee hours of morning over any and every topic under the sun! Yes, I would have loved to spend 31st this way. Or maybe me and Baba flying to Bangalore and having a fun time with Dada, Dido & Maitri. As long as Maitri is with us, everything turns interesting and each moment is party time. But the sad part is that Im neither in Blore nor at Belgaum. Im in Pune. Yes…. P U N E. Maybe the last place on earth I would opt to be at for the new year….

New year has always been a quiet affair all these years. It has either seen me spending nice time at home with a few very close friends or hanging out with ‘the’ gang at any damn place & having a really really great time. Not that I don’t have any ‘options’ here, but they aren’t really my kinda options and I wouldn’t want to go in for one of them just coz I don’t have anything else to do. So looking at it that way, Im better off doing what Im doing right now and quite happy about it! LOL

I have been asked too many times in the last week as to what I would be doing on 31st and people must have found my answer very boring. Cant help it! Ofcourse my cousins and their friends and their friends cousins and their cousins friends (married, unmarried, with kids, without kids etc etc) are meeting up and going to have a blast. But being the teetotaller that I am, Im in no way comfortable at a place where everybody would eventually drink. Breezer or Beer or Wine or whatever….. its all the same to me. Alcohol and Tobacco don’t exist in my dictionary, and they never will. And Im genuinely happy about the fact that people at my home use the same dictionary! Infact, at the risk of being immodest, I must say that Im proud that im from a family of teetotallers. And I really don’t care if the entire world labels this as being backward. If this is what the sign of being ‘backward’ is, then we are happy being backward. My definition, though, of being forward and in-keeping with the 21st century extends to things like filling up Body Donation & Eye Donation forms, being alien to the concepts of caste and religion and knowing just one thing called ‘humanism’, not following dumb and meaningless rituals and tradtions blindly just for the sake of it but just plainly believing in God and having a conscience that will allow you to have a peaceful sleep at night. And we fit in this definiton to the T. That for me is enough to be happy about our way of living. So everybody out there is welcome to do a reality check on these parameters and then decide for themselves if they are really 'forward' or are being backward in the pretext of being modern.

Ah! Guess I drifted somewhere else. But then…. that’s obvious. I have strong views about certain things and wouldn’t really compromise on them may what come. Actually, I have been dying to write about something that almost qualifies to be a ‘record’ in the history of my 5 & half months stay in Pune. A record strong enough to make me have this urge of renaming this city! LOL. Yesterday evening I was kinda low and was going mad being at my room alone. I just sent an sms to Abhijit saying so and voicing my wish to have been somewhere out. The sms was one of the many SMS that I send to friends when I have something in my mind. Its sent more with the intention of me having told something to someone who can understand instead of keeping the thing locked within me. Not that I don’t mean what I write or don’t want the other person to act on it. Its more like I know the person at the other end wont act on it or do anything about it owing to his constraints (Genuine or not, better known to them). And thats my ‘experience in Pune’ speaking! So when I got a reply from Abhijit in a fraction of a second saying “ Im coming there. Get ready”, I was almost about to faint!! Getting this response in Pune is something next to impossible. And no, Im not being biased when Im saying this. I do accept that I had biased n negative views about this city when I hardly knew about it and hadn’t even stayed here for more than a week. But what I say now has come out of my own experience after having stayed here for almost half a year….

The question here is not whether people (relatives, friends or whoever) want to do something for me. Agreed quite a few of them genuinely want to do many things for me (Kaku tops that list) and Im in no way denying that. But sometimes, the ‘wanting to do something’ reaches the saturation point, and what one starts looking for is not what others ‘want to do’ but what others ‘are doing’. The actual ACTION takes over the mere WISH. I had got so used to the ‘want to do’ without the actual doing, that I really had had enough of it. And Abhijit’s response came as a pleasant surprise to someone who had got used to taking NO for an answer. Infact, it really touched me. I wonder if anyone would believe that I have many relatives and friends here, but I have yet not been able to do some of the things that I have been wanting to do since July. And atleast as of now, I havent reached the stage where I could visit places and watch movies alone and yet enjoy it! I need somebody with me….. to talk to and have a nice time. Not that nobody is there….. there are people…. But the sad part is that they are willing to do things at the time that’s convinient for them and at the times they wish to do it. Im human and I cant possibly adjust what I should feel at a certain moment as per the constraints and timetables of others. Feelings and thoughts spring up without any forewarning and one cant possibly schedule them to arrive at a particular time! If I want to watch xyz movie today and ask someone, then that someone saying No and then offering to take me to ABC movie after a week might not really hold significance in my eyes. If im desperately feeling like eating a specific thing today, I cant possibly ask my taste buds to long for that dish after two days when the other person is free and wants to take me out. And thankfully for me, now I have learnt to say No as well. Just coz I was feeling like doing a certain thing one week back and the person who I felt was close enough to tell this to and so finally told this to …. doesnt have time , for me the topic gets closed then and there. If he/she calls me back after days together offering to do that very thing and taking it for granted that since I had this ‘need’ to do it some days back I will naturally hop along at the first mention of it….. then sorry, but its too late! I guess what matters is not DOING A THING but DOING A THING AT THE RIGHT TIME….

And for the first time in Pune, someone actually didn’t expect me to postpone my wish to or retain the same mood on a day when his appointment diary will show a blank space. I really had a great time yesterday. We went to one of my most fav places in Pune : Bawdhan Chaupaty and ate something that I was literally longing to eat: Open Spring Cheese Chilly Toast at ‘Darshan’. Couldn’t believe that not just one but two wishes were getting fulfilled without me having to ‘postpone’ them!! Thanks Abhijit….. for being there when I needed a friend…. And that too without consulting ur appointment diary and without any Ifs anf Buts! Vielen Dank :)

Tomorrow is another Right thing coming my way at the Right time. Who other than Aaiju-Baba -> the PhDs in ‘Right thing at the Right time’ can do it?! Well tomorrow I will be getting the courier that Baba has sent for me from Belgaum. And what does it contain? HARBARAA. Wooooooow! My mouth is already watering thinking about the Harbara Chaat that I will eventually eat. I have received Harabara from Belgaum right here in my room like this on two earlier occasions. It has often been talked about over and over again by the Punekars with footnotes that read “What is the need to send Harbara from Belgaum by courier when u get it here???”. Oh puhelasee! What problem does the world have if my father is sending something for me? Is he asking somebody to courier it? Is he asking somebody to separate the harbara from the leaves (or whatever it is called!)? Is he asking somebody to pay for the parcel? Then what the big deal??!! The fact is that I dote on Harbara chaat . I have eaten it practically every single day when I was in Belgaum for a month this October. And while I have seen Harbara being kept for sale at so many places in Belgaum, I haven’t seen it anywhere in Pune. I long to eat it. So its obvious that Baba will send it! And people can only laugh about the Harbara courier and say for N number of times how it is available in Pune. Has even a single person claming so has ever brought it for me instead of just talking about it? NO! How typically Puneri! LOL. Then when nobody is doing anything other than just talking about it, why the big fuss over my father sending it for me all the way from Belgaum?! Aaiju-Baba don’t ‘say’ things, they ‘do’ things without saying…..

Note: I certainly dont belong to the "I-hate-Pune Club", but Im a perpetual member of "I-always-speak-the-truth Club"

Daane Daane Pe Likha Hai....

Tup-Sakhar-Chapati Roll & Ritter Sport Chocolate Bar?? Now that’s quite an odd combination. To me, it seems quite paradoxical actually. But then Life itself is a big paradox! No….. I have not given up my current pursuits and taken up ‘philosophy jhhadoing’ as a vocation. LOL! I already have kept my feet in too many boats and planting them in another boat would result in a fall that’s totally uncalled for….

Well…..a strange thing happened yesterday. Maybe even more strange than India winning d Cricket matches or Kareena & Shahid splitting after their much hyped and genuine (or so it seemed!) relationship. Infact….Something ‘very strange’ could have happened, but I thought that it would be too difficult for me to digest it and so I settled with doing something which is just ‘strange’. I had gone to Tru Mart y'day morning to buy a few goodies. Its another story that I ended up buying more than the few goodies that were in my list. But thats what always happens with me in superstores n malls, so I have got used to it. What surprised was the thing that happened at the “Chocolates” section….

The last time I had been to TruMart, the Germany-made Ritter Sport Bars had caught my attention but I hadn’t bought one coz being the choosy brat that I am, the Marzipan flavour that I absolutely and completely love wasn’t available and I wasn’t interested in the other Ritter Sports Bars with a dozen flavours! Today I caught a glimpse of that utterly yummy chocolate bar filled with mouth-watering Marzipan in that attractive red wrapper and I was almost short of jumping with joy. I simply love it! That’s one thing I demand from every relative who is flying home from abroad (the other being Whitman’s Sampler Assorted Chocolates). And then I did what I rarely do back home but have unknowingly started doing from July – ever since I have moved to Pune. I saw the price!!! 100 bucks! 100 bucks?? 100 bucks for something as tiny as that? But Hey! Ritter Sport comes in the same size and for almost the same cost ever since I have started eating it. Then why was I taken aback? I wonder why! And wonder of wonders, I actually kept the Bar back in the rack!! Heavens No!! What was wrong with me? Had I become sane or had I gone nuts?? I still don’t know.

But its true that I was, & still am, so astonished by my act of keeping it back after seeing the price tag that I thought that I simply wouldn’t be able to identify with it when I will look back on that incident sometime later in life. I mean I had never done something like that before. Then why was I doing it?? The next moment I actually pushed myself saying “Come on! Stop being crazy. U like it, so just go ahead and buy it!”. And that’s exactly what I did. My friend & college mate Ashwini was a bit bewildered that I was actually spending 100 bucks on something as stupid as that. Ofcourse, she didn’t voice it, but it was written all over her face. Yes, true that I saved myself from doing this ‘very strange’ thing of not buying it, but then, I did step out of Tru Mart buying just one Ritter Sport Marzipan when there were actually three more lying there on the shelf! Baba will certainly faint when he hears this. So will the others who have been religiously getting me Ritter Sport from “phoren”! And also those who get to taste the tiniest possible piece coz I want to eat it all myself.….

Im still not very clear as to why this happened. I mean me thinking about ‘spending less’ is something that happens very rarely. Ofcourse, I don’t udvofy money like I don’t value it and am sure my friends can vouch for that. But im not a ‘I must save & not spend much’ person either. And out of Aaiju’s “Set of Principles”, Principle No 4 says that “KhaaNya var paise kharcha kartana kadhihi vichar karaycha nahi” and in the bracket – “….(Tu pahije tar ek dress kami ghe)….”. LOL. ROFL! Baba ofcourse applies that principle to each and every possible thing that I want to buy n confirms in every possible way tat his name name is Raj & his daughter (In short: Im RAJKANYA & all my wishes are granted!). Then why the heck did I think so much before buying my really really Fav chocolate and came out with just one and not all the four?? Baba always brings home loads of Cadburys the moment I utter that I want this and this. Aaiju always dramatically comments about the price (esp of Roast Almond) but we all know that she is saying it just for the sake of it coz eventually even she gets me that kinda stuff (though she would never accept it!). Then since when did I start thinking about such things??

Im almost feeling abnormal. I cant even believe that Im actually devoting an entire post to this! Strange! Yesterday... I was talking to Tejas over the phone and the topic of my blog happened to spring up. He asked me what my ‘in-the process’ post is about and couldn’t stop laughing when he got “Eka Chocolate baddal” as an answer! But I guess I have been looking at prices ever since I have shifted to Pune coz, unlike Belgaum, its me and me alone who has to buy everything and whether I want or not, I get to know the price. Until a few months back, I never actually knew how much would ½ kg sugar cost – 10, 100 or more! But does that mean I have to think twice before spending? I really don’t know. Ofcourse I know that my folks would say that I shouldn’t. (Infact, SHOUDLNT in capital & bold letters!). But maybe somewhere at the back of my mind Im getting this pinch that when half the world out there is earning…. I AM NOT. Period.

Coming to the “Tup-Sakhar-Chapati Roll” bit, well that almost brought back fond memories. Being a student of MVM with its hat-ke timings, unlike the usual 11 to 5 school, Thursdays we used to have, what we termed, ‘morning school’ from 8.30 to 12.30. And I remember that many a times my Thursday dabba used to have this Roll which was almost like a treat in those days. I had almost forgotten this entity! And then it came into my life again. I got some really weird Sabzis in my dabba at Pune this month and I couldn’t possibly have pushed them down my throat no matter how hungry I was. (‘Bhukela Konda’ doesn’t apply to me!). Yes its true that now, I do sometimes eat what I never used to even touch at home. Like I have eaten 'Gavaar' quite a few times! But then at times I get some strange looking vegetables in my tiffin, the names of which I cant ever guess… nor m I interested in knowing. Being the Rajkanya that Im and the Mess being not a commercial one but a proper Maharashtrian house, I have given that lady a list of vegetables that I eat and she is supposed to give me only those that I have specified. But sometimes she does give a non-listed vegetable and though such occasions are few, they annoy me! I mean what could be worse than coming to the room from college feeling hungry with a capital H and then opening the dabba and finding some weird thing that I have never seen before. If theres any time when I miss home the most is the lunch time. I actually crave to hog on the Sabzis that are made back home. The same ones that I crib about quite a few times (Tikhat kami aahe, batata shijla nahiye, navalkol che threads tondat yetayt, matki la khup jast mod aalet blah blah blah)….nevertheless I eat them and even ask for more. And I really long to be home! I especially miss the Bhendi that Aaiju prepares. The one that I get in the dabba doesn’t even come close to it….

Well….so initially when I used to get these unidentified objects in the dabba, I used to simply skip lunch. Until a few days ago, when I told myself that I can no longer keep missing meals and resorted to this “Tup-Sakhar-Chapati Roll” option that I had almost forgotten. Yesderday was one such “Unidenfied Vegetable Day” and the Roll came to rescue. On such occasion, I sometimes involve in self-pity thinking that ‘Oh how sad that I have to make do with such alternatives even when Im so hungry and cant eat what I want to’! And then yesterday when I was almost about to do the same, I suddenly remembered the Ritter Sport! Chapati Roll and Ritter Sport combination seems so amuzingly funny. While one makes me feel like this ‘samjutdar’ gal who makes it a point to stuff something into her mouth irrespective of whether she likes to eat it at that point of time or not….. the other makes me feel like this pampered spoilt gal who just has to utter what she is feeling like eating and the next moment it is pesh-karofied before her. And I guess Im less of the former and more of the latter!

P.S: Don’t try to make sense of what Im trying to say through this post and Don’t even try to figure look for its ‘morale’ (if any!). Coz for the first time in my life, Im feeling that I haven’t been able to put into writing what I wanted to convey. ASO…..

LE TERRASSEMENT

Palm Islands est un projet de création ex nihilo de trois îles artificielles dans le golfe Persique sur les côtes de l’émirat de Dubaï, aux Émirats arabes unis. Chacune des îles (qui n’en sont pas à proprement parler) a une forme rappelant celle du palmier. Des complexes hôteliers, balnéaires et touristiques sont prévus sur chaque site. Des maisons individuelles sont également disponibles pour des clients fortunés.

La construction est des plus simple : du sable est dragué sur le fond du golfe Persique et redéposé aux endroits adéquats afin de créer les îles. Les îles sont donc entièrement en sable, seuls quelques enrochements principalement sur l'extérieur des digues (les croissants) sont réalisés afin de contrer la houle.

Les plans des trois palmiers durent être modifiés, parfois après la construction (Jumeirah) et parfois à de très nombreuses reprises (Deira). En effet les constructeurs, pressés, n'avaient pas attendu le rapport d'ingénieurs des Pays-Bas qui avaient été sollicités pour leur expérience sur les terres gagnées sur la mer. Ce rapport indiquait notamment que la marée n'était pas suffisante à l'intérieur des croissants pour assurer un renouvellement des eaux entre les palmes, risquant de transformer les lagunes en repaires à moustiques envahis d'algues. Des passes furent alors aménagées à des endroits stratégiques dans les croissants afin de permettre un renouvellement total des eaux toutes les deux semaines grâce à l'action naturelle des marées.

DUBAI
Depuis quelques années et avec la prise de conscience de la part du gouvernement de l'extrême dépendance de l'économie des émirats vis-à-vis des énergies fossiles, Dubaï reconvertit son économie vers les nouvelles technologies et le commerce mais surtout vers le tourisme, principalement de luxe, à coup de grands travaux et de projets démesurés. En 2006, le pétrole représentait moins de 10% du PIB : il comptait pour 30% en 2003 et 45% à la fin des années 1980.

La ville de Dubaï est le premier port et la première ville des Émirats arabes unis. Elle fut créée dans une boucle du bras de mer qui s'insinue dans le désert et qui constitue un port naturel (Khor Dubaï). Le centre-ville, qui garde un caractère arabe, est constitué de petits immeubles et de ruelles étroites. Les nouveaux quartiers s'étalent quant à eux dans le désert et le long de la côte au Nord et au Sud, constituant avec les villes de Jebel Ali, Jumeirah, Bur Dubaï, Deira, Charjah et Ajman une agglomération de 2 033 787 habitants en 2006. Ces nouveaux quartiers, créés de toute pièce, sont constitués d'immeubles, de résidences et de maisons individuelles. Ils s'organisent au Sud de part et d'autre de la Sheikh Zayed Road, la plus grande artère des Émirats arabes unis et futur centre urbain de l'agglomération. Bordée de gratte-ciels (573 dans l'émirat), elle permet de relier les zones résidentielles au complexes touristiques construits ou en construction qui se trouvent au Sud de la ville : The Palm, The World, Dubaï Waterfront, Ski Dubaï, Marina Dubaï, Dubaï Mall, l'hôtel Burj-Al-Arab, la Burj Dubaï, Dubaïland,...

MAIS REVENONS SUR CETTE ILE FANTASTIQUE:

Le port de Jebel Ali (ou Mina Jabal Ali) se situe au Sud de l'émirat. Avec la proximité de l'agglomération de Dubaï et la construction de The Palm, Jebel Ali, de Dubaï Waterfront et de Marina Dubaï, sa physionomie est en train d'être totalement bouleversée.

Jumeirah

L’île de Jumeirah prise depuis la station spatiale internationale (2005)

Jumeirah est le plus petit des trois palmiers. Il est situé au niveau des quartiers de Dubaï appelés Jumeirah qui comptent déjà l'hôtel Burj-Al-Arab et l'hôtel Jumeirah Beach. Il est conçu principalement pour l'habitat privé et touristique.

Sa construction a démarré en juin 2001 et devrait être achevée en décembre 2007, plus d’un an après la date d’inauguration initiale, le retard étant du à des modifications de conception, notamment le percement de deux passes dans le croissant.

Le tronc

Le tronc qui mesure deux kilomètres de long est relié au continent par le Gateway Bridge. Il accueille des voies rapides et un monorail et est traversé en son centre dans la longueur par un canal. Coté Est du canal se trouveront 2 500 appartements tandis que le coté Ouest abritera 25 hôtels, des commerces, restaurants, etc. Au centre du tronc, à cheval sur le canal central, s'élèvera une double tour se rejoignant dans les airs et abritant un hôtel : le Trump International Hotel and Tower. A l'extrémité du tronc se trouveront des marinas (1 500 places au total) et l'accès aux palmes.

Les palmes

Dans les 17 palmes se trouveront 1 350 villas privées de luxe de trois types (Signature Villas, Garden Homes et Canal Cove Town Homes) abritant 8 000 habitants.

Le croissant

Le croissant, long de onze kilomètres, est relié à l'extrémité du palmier par un tunnel sous-marin. Ce croissant accueillera des palaces et des hôtels de luxe comme l'hôtel Atlantis qui comptera 1 500 chambres et ouvrira en 2008.

Jebel Ali

Jebel Ali est un palmier moitié plus grand que Jumeirah. Situé à Jebel Ali, il sera davantage destiné au divertissement et aux attractions pour enfants et adultes. Comptant 17 palmes, il accueillera des marinas, le Sea Village (parc d'attractions à thème et aquatique), des résidences dans le croissant. Le tronc sera quant à lui composé de voies de communication, de canaux et de résidences. Sa particularité réside dans le fait qu'entre le croissant et le palmier se trouveront des maisons sur piloti dont la disposition écrira littéralement en arabe un poème de l'émir actuel de Dubaï, le sheikh Mohammad ben Rached Al-Maktoum.

Sa construction, démarrée en octobre 2002, devrait être achevée fin 2007.

Deira

Deira est le plus grand des trois palmiers avec 41 palmes, quatorze kilomètres de long, huit kilomètres et demi de large et 80 km² de superficie ; il sera plus grand que l'île de Manhattan et couvrira une aire plus grande que Paris. Situé à Deira, près du centre-ville de Dubaï, il sera exclusivement réservé à l'habitat et ne comportera aucun hôtel. Outre 8 000 villas de luxe construites dans trois styles (Premier Villas, Grand Villas et Vista Town Homes), il comportera des marinas, des commerces, des complexes sportifs, etc. Le palmier sera entouré d'une digue de protection et comportera à sa base pluseurs îles artificielles. Initialement non prévu dans le projet Palm Islands, sa construction à été décidée en octobre 2004 et a commencé le mois suivant mais il ne devrait être achevé qu’en 2010 en raison de problèmes importants de conception.

DUBAI

Dubaïou Doubaï (en arabe دبي, Dubayy) est à la fois une ville et un émirat des Émirats arabes unis.

Fondé au XVIII^e siècle, l'émirat et la ville prennent de l'importance en participant à la création des États de la Trêve (Trucial States en anglais) en 1853 puis des Émirats arabes unis actuels en 1971. L'émir de Dubaï conserve ainsi de manière officieuse le poste de vice-président des Émirats arabes unis.

Avec 3 885 km², c'est le deuxième émirat en terme de superficie après Abou Dabi. Ouvert sur le golfe Persique et situé entre les émirats de Charjah (au Nord et à l'Est) et d'Abou Dabi (au Sud), la majeure partie du territoire est occupée par le désert du Rub al-Khali. La petite enclave de Hatta est sise dans les montagnes sur la frontière avec le sultanat d'Oman.

Christmas Eve was spent at both Lori's and Gerdy's. At Lori's, we ate dinner, chatted with the adults, and played with some of the young kids. Emily was very glad to see Charlie. They had not seen each other for over a week. Emily and Charlie played and played. Two peas in a pod. Then, we went to Gerdy's and waited for Santa. My MIL sign Miss Em up for Secret Santa (against my wishes). She arrived there around 5 and Santa did not show up until almost 930. Santa came ringing his bells--Emily, Emily where are you. Em went over, touched his hand, and watched as Santa gave her gifts. Her favorite was a Barbie Tric. She rode back and forth and all around. After seeing Santa, she was no longer sleepy. She stayed up until 12:30. Mark carried the gifts to the dining table. Emily stopped, looked at them, and was told they were Charlie's.

Miniature laquée de Fédoskino

Ces miniatures sont les plus belles du monde, des mois de travail,

une précision diabolique: mais retrouvons l'histoire de ce métier et de la fabrique.

Fabrique Piotr Loukoutine. Années 1825-1828

...A 40 kilomètres au nord de Moscou s'élève sur rives pittoresques de l'Outcha la bourgade de Fedoskino, le plus ancien centre de la miniature laquée de Russie. Une bonne moitié de ses habitants et des villageois des environs sont liés d'une façon ou d'une autre à cet artisanat de longue tradition. Voici déjà 200 ans que des générations de peintres se transmettent ici les secrets de la laque locale, tout ce qui touche à la production et à la décoration de ces petites merveilles en papier mâché. La fabrique créée par le marchand moscovite Piotr Korobov en 1820 était la première du genre dans la région de Moscou. La tradition orale tient que Korobov voyagea en Allemagne, où il visita à Braunschweig la fabrique du maître Johanne Stobwasser et en rapporta au pays les tabatières peintes qui lui servirent de modèles au départ. La marque de la maison fait sa première apparition du temps de Piotr Loukoutine, le gendre de Korobov devenu en 1824 patron et propriétaire de la fabrique. «F.P.L.», lit-on désormais, c'est-à-dire Fabrique Piotr Lokoutine. Dès lors, et jusqu'à la fermeture de l'entreprise en 1904, c'est la famille Loukoutine qui préside à ses destinées. Petites merveilles de perfection et d'élégance, ces pièces le plus souvent uniques, firent la renommée des artisans de Loukoutine de la première moitié du 19e siècle.

En 1843 la fabrique passe sous l'autorité du fils de Piotr - Alexandre Loukoutine. Ce nouveau patron se distingue par un esprit d'entreprise peu courant, des choix artistiques guidés par un goût très sûr. Avec lui des affaires connaissent un essor tout particulier; une partie des productions est proposée sur le marché européen où elle soutient avec succès la concurrence. En Russie, le prestige de la Fabrique Loukoutine est alors tel que tout ce qui sort des ateliers de la région de Moscou lui est couramment attribué, sans distinction d'origine. Pourtant, la rivalité sur le marché national s'est précisée dès le début du 19e siècle. légor et Tarass Vichniakov, deux paysans-serfs des comtes Chérémétiev, ont déjà ouvert leur propre atelier à Jostovo et Ostachkovo, villages au voisinage immédiat de Fedoskino. Le destin des deux principaux ateliers de laques - la Fabrique Loukoutine et la Fabrique Vichniakov - va interférer de la manière la plus étroite pendant toute la durée du 19e siècle. L'exécution de toutes ces laques est en rapport étroit avec l'évolution des arts graphiques de l'époque. Les miniaturistes s'inspiraient largement ou copiaient les dessins, les gravures, les images populaires, les lithos que l'on trouvait dans le commerce sous forme d'album ou de planches. Mais l'élargissement du thème dont les miniaturistes de Moscou prennent l'initiative, donne naissance à une série d'œuvres dont la tradition reste vive à Fedoskino depuis déjà plus de cent ans. Et jusqu'à présent, la troïka, en hiver ou en été, en demeure le sujet favori, le véritable symbole du métier.

Les articles en papier mâché que l'on produisait à la Fabrique Loukoutine et aux Ateliers Vichniakov, offraient un assortiment extrêmement varié, destiné au plus vaste cercle de clients. Il y a là des bibelots de petite taille, tels que boîtes et coffrets à allumettes, porte-cigares et porte-cigarettes, services de petits verres pour la route, boîtes à thé et à tabac, porte-monnaie, écrins et étuis de toutes formes et tous usages qui trouvaient utilisation dans la vie quotidienne, ornaient le bureau ou la table de toilette, servaient de présent fort apprécié. Tout au long du 19e siècle, les laques de Fedoskino restent en étroite relation avec la peinture professionnelle, dont elles suivent les successives évolutions, styles et modes compris. Le phénomène est général, il concerne la miniature peinte dans toutes ses applications pratiques.

N.Loukoutine, dernier représentant de la dynastie mort en 1902, deux ans plus tard ses successeurs mettent la clé sous le paillasson. Une partie du personnel passe chez Vichniakov, mais les conditions de travail qui régnent ici ne font pas l'affaire de tous. Ainsi voit le jour en 1910 l'Artel de Fedoskino des anciens Maîtres de la Fabrique Loukoutine. Les années qui suivirent furent celles de la révolution et de la guerre civile, elles s'inscrivent comme une période particulièrement noire, tant pour la corporation que pour tout le pays. La production stoppa faute de matières premières et de fournitures les articles en stock ne trouvèrent plus de débouché. La situation s'éclaircit cependant de façon notable en 1923, lorsqu'à l'Exposition des productions agricoles et culturelles de Moscou les bibelots de Fedoskino obtinrent un Diplôme du 1er degré, «pour la haute qualité artistique», et un autre Diplôme, «pour la préservation du métier et un haut niveau de coopération». Dès lors les exportations à l'étranger, les participations aux grandes manifestations internationales reprirent, et en 1925 l'Artel de Fedoskino se voyait décerner un Diplôme à Paris, puis, et 1927, une distinction similaire à Milan.

Aux années 1930-1950, la miniature locale s'attacha essentiellement à reproduire les œuvres de grands peintres russes. Des sujets comme la fameuse «Alionouchka» de Victor Vasnétsov furent une grande réussite. Cependant il est clair que les grandes toiles ne se plient pas toutes aussi aisément aux règles de la miniature. Et les artistes les plus entreprenants s'essayèrent vite à leurs propres compositions. Ils choisirent de s'inspirer des contes russes, et des sujets comme «La petite fleur rouge», «Le Conte du tsar Saltan», «La Fille des Neiges» furent une nouveauté complète à Fedoskino. A partir de là, le conte russe prit une place privilégiée dans la miniature locale.

Aux années 1960, le genre du paysage connaît la grande faveur. Sous le pinceau de ces artistes, les jeux de lumière de la nacre participent à l'évocation d'une eau vivante, d'un ciel embrasé, de rayons du soleil perçant les nuages. Les paysages d'hiver font jouer l'argent de la neige, ses paysages printaniers mettent en valeur les ciels embrasés du couchant, ses paysages automnaux font éclater les ors des feuillages Aux années 1980-1990 sans préjudice aucun de la tradition locale, qui reste intacte, seulement enrichie d'un généreux apport de sang neuf. Dans le droit fil de la tradition de la première moitié du 19e siècle on revint à la saine conception voyant dans le boîtier ou l'écrin, non seulement le support de la miniature peinte, mais encore et avant toute chose un objet devant faire valoir, à égalité avec la peinture, sa forme, sa couleur et sa présentation ornementale. Car en dépit de l'élégance gratuite et de la fragilité apparente du bibelot en papier mâché, celui-ci doit rester pratique et fiable à l'usage, ne rien perdre de sa fonctionnalité. Les œuvres des artistes rapportés qui est une autre particularité traditionnelle à Fedoskino, parvient à un niveau de perfection extraordinaire. Le filigrane tel qu'elle est exécutée aujourd'hui pour les besoins de cet artisanat, surclasse de loin les modestes motifs des Ateliers Loukoutine. A l'aide d'un jeu restreint de minuscules fragments de métal estampé - ronds, coins, cupules, étoiles - l'artiste compose une infinie variété d'ornements qui viennent s'inscrire dans le couvercle circulaire ou ovale du coffret, qui en cernent les côtés renflés ou encadrent la miniature

L'école de Fédoskino est la première et la plus ancienne école de la miniature laquée russe, elle existe depuis plus de 200 ans. Connue dans le monde entier par ses « tableaux » à l'huile, dont la plus grande taille a dépassé rarement une feuille de papier, cette manufacture connaît actuellement d'énormes difficultés suite aux nombreuses boîtes contrefaites proposées au prix dérisoire.

En effet, en absence d'une législation qui protège les droits des marques et des auteurs et à cause de variété de types miniatures proposées, il est impossible de nos jours pour l'acheteur de savoir si la miniature laquée est authentique, sauf si vous êtes un connaisseur.

Quelques mots au sujet des miniatures laquées russes

Depuis quelque temps, un peu partout en France, et désormais dans les boutiques sur Internet, on découvre parmi les objets de l'artisanat russe de petites boîtes noires ("boîtes laquées"), représentant souvent des paysages, portraits ou des personnages de légendes et contes russes peints d'une façon qui semble minutieuse. Ces objets apportent un véritable plaisir visuel.

Or, tout n'est pas œuvre d'artiste (il faut un coup d'œil exercé pour en distinguer les vrais), et de nombreuses pièces n'ont rien à voir avec cet art russe qui existe en Russie depuis 1795 et qui compte actuellement 4 écoles et manufactures, chacune ayant sa propre histoire et ses particularités.

Toutefois, toutes les miniatures authentiques ont une particularité en commun. Elles peuvent être agrandies presque à l'infini. Et plus la miniature est fine, plus vous découvrez de détails invisibles à l'œil nu.

Mais pour que vous puissiez apprécier la valeur réelle d'une œuvre d'art telle qu'une vraie miniature, il est indispensable de connaître certaines caractéristiques communes à toutes les écoles (exception faite des "numéros uniques" - particularité exclusive de la manufacture de Fédoskino) dont vous trouverez les explications ci-dessous :

"Œuvre originale" - signifie que le sujet peint sur la miniature est inédit et que celle-ci restera unique, tant que l'artiste ne l'a pas reproduit sur un autre support.

L'œuvre originale est toujours signée à l'intérieur pour les miniatures de Kholouï (parfois une vraie signature en plus du Nom et le Prénom). Elle est précisée par une mention : "Творческая работа", donc première lettre T

"Pièce unique" - signifie qu'il s'agit, non seulement d'un travail exceptionnel, mais aussi du fait que cette miniature restera incomparable.

"Œuvre d'auteur" - signifie que la miniature est reproduite par l'artiste qui l'a imaginée. Il est à noter que dans ce cas, il ne s'agira pas d'une copie exacte de l'œuvre initiale et que d'une reproduction à l'autre, certains petits détails peuvent changer. C'est surtout caractéristique pour les miniatures laquées de Kotouï .

L'œuvre d'auteur est toujours signée à l'intérieur pour les miniatures de Kholouï et assez souvent pour les miniatures De Fédoskino de très petite taille ou dont le support est très élaboré. Elle est précisée par une mention : "Авторская работа", donc première lettre А

Sur toutes les autres miniatures le nom de l'artiste sera précédé :

-> soit de l'abréviation du nom "auteur" en trois lettres " Aвт ".
-> soit de l'abréviation du nom "exécutant" en trois lettres "Исп"

"Copie" peut signifier :

-> soit qu'il s'agit d'une copie d'œuvre originale faite par un autre artiste
-> soit qu'il s'agit d'un tirage réalisé par des peintres copistes à partir d'une miniature originale commandée par la manufacture et pour laquelle celle-ci paie les droits à l'auteur sur chaque vente. Cette pratique est propre aux miniatures de la manufacture de Kholouï
-> soit qu' il s'agit de la reproduction d'un tableau
-> soit qu'il s'agit d' un sujet traditionnel de la manufacture de Fédoskino et de ce fait reproduit à de nombreux exemplaires, sous la signature de différents artistes, plus ou moins renommés.

"Enregistrée sous le numéro" - signifie que la miniature a été réalisée au sein même de la manufacture qui lui a attribué un numéro unique et que cette miniature est garantie par la manufacture.

"Papier-mâché artisanal" - indique que le support sur lequel est peinte la miniature, est fabriqué à la main conformément à la technique traditionnelle et que le procédé de fabrication a duré entre 2 et 6 mois (voir diaporama "La naissance d'une miniature laquée).

La valeur d'une copie sera toujours moins importante que celle d'une œuvre originale, elle dépend beaucoup de la rénomée et de l'expérience de celui ou celle qui l'a exécutée.

Cette règle s'applique également à la reproduction de tableaux qui peut être bonne ou mauvaise suivant la capacité du copiste de reproduire tous les détails.

NB : Une copie qui faisait objet d'une publication dans le catalogue de Fédoskino (une fois par an) a plus de valeur que toutes les autres copies.

La valeur d'une œuvre originale est plus importante, surtout pour les œuvres (Fédoskino) qui sont tirages ou publiées dans un livre d'art ou un catalogue.

Enfin, paradoxalement, ce sont les collectionneurs des Etats Unis qui sont les meilleurs connaisseurs des "laques russes". Ils étaient les premiers et presque les seuls acheteurs des miniatures de Fédoskino sou régime Soviétique. Et actuellement ce sont les seuls qui sont capables d'acheter une miniature "sur le nom de son auteur" (ce qui explique la durée d'attente chez les artistes réputés pour avoir une commande).

Christmas Time

It is Christmas Eve. Emily is so excited. She has been laying down and looking under the tree to see if presents have suddenly appeared. Our niece stopped by last night to deliver a present for DD. Miss Emily did not want to wait to open the gift of a new hat and gloves--to her it was gold. She proudly put on the hat and we helped her with the gloves and pranced around the house. This will be the last Christmas with us being a family of three. In May, a new brother or sister will be born. I am a little nervous to see how Emily will react to her new sibling. If you ask her if she wants a brother or a sister, the answer is no or no way. Not a good sign!

Today, we will start our Christmas celebration with family and friends. I hope we teach her the true meaning of Christmas is not about the gifts, but about the best gift of all, the birth of our savior.

Het is weer die tijd van het jaar, de stresvolle dagen zijn voorbij en men kan genieten van de over heerlijke geuren van verukkelijk eten, en een lekkere kop warme chocolade melk.
2007. Het was een goed jaar voor OpenMinded; veel geleerd en een hoop gewonnen. Wij hopen dat 2007 voor iedereen een mooi jaar is geweest en moge 2008 nog beter worden!
