on Wednesdays, i like to go to starbucks and sit outside and read a book between leaving work at 5 and going to the gym at 6:30 (they added my spin class back and got rid of that wretched step class. small victories.). today, being that it is wednesday, was no different.

as i find my table (in the middle, not too close to the door that i will get bumped into and not too close to the street because i cant deal with the car noise) and settle in. when these two young ladies get out of a white Volvo SUV with west virginia plates. they looked like they were whoring at starbucks at 5:30pm.

the one had an embarrassingly short green chiffon dress with 4" metallic heels. the other in a tight black dress with pantie lines.

as they come back out of starbucks, they sit themselves at the table closest to the door and begin their conversation. chiffon starts talking about what she learned that day, seeing as how shes probably old enough to still be in grade school, i eavesdrop.

"did you know that iran isnt actually part of Africa? its actually part of Asia, like Asians live there. I never knew that, thats what i learned today".

this is how the conversation went.

i wept for a moment at how the public school system has let us all down yet again. but then i said a little prayer thanking god for granting this young lady the ability to wear shoes like that because that is the only skill that will get her anywhere in life in her bright exotic dancing future.

The ABC daytime talk show had invited her to be a guest on the show this month, but Michelle requested to guest-host like Cindy McCain (wife of presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain) did in April of this year. Guests have not been announced for the show yet. Cindy McCain interviewed CBS late night host Craig Ferguson when she hosted in April.

I am a long-time hater of Dr. Phil. Let me re-phrase that: I am an opponent of the stupidity that comes out of that moron's mouth.

Now, before I say anything, let me state that I am in no way, shape, or form condoning pedophilia, the subject of Dr. Phil's show today. In fact, "pedophilia" isn't even the appropriate term for the subject material today.

Dr. Phil had on his show a man who had sex with a 15-year-old girl. Dr. Phil, of course, had his usual moronic spew to counter any of the man's defnenses. What really pissed me off was Dr. Phil's repeated statements that "a child cannot consent to sex".

First off, what makes a human being a "child"? At what age does is the human brain suddenly capable of making important decisions, predicting the consequences of said decisions, and knowing right from wrong? Why is the age of consent 16 in some states, but 18 in others? Why is a 17-year-old a "child" in one state, but a full-fledged adult in another?

By Dr. Phil's moronic reasoning, would it be morally wrong to have consensual sex (which is possible at a certain, indeterminable, subjective age) with a "child" in Idaho, but perfectly okay in Arkansas?

Now, I know fully that the age of the girl they were talking about is 15, not 16 or 17, and that none of the United States has an age of consent below 16. But what difference does a year make in terms of maturity? Is a 16-year-old a child, while a 17-year-old an adult? Does a girl's 17th (or 16th or 18th) birthday hold some magic powers that suddenly transforms them into an adult?

My point is, don't call 15-year-olds children. A 5-year-old, fine. Five-year-olds are children and in no way can they consent to anything sexual. But anything past the age of 14 is a gray area. Some countries even have an age of consent of 12. (I know, I know... they are less advanced and sophisticated than us, and we are therefore better than every other country in the world.)

While it may seem clear-cut to some people ("the law is the law"), Dr. Phil brought up his opinion that, all law aside, it was still "wrong" (a term he throws around a lot despite his lack of knowing what the fuck it really means) and that a "child cannot consent to sex". What if the "child" had been a 16-year-old, which is only a year's difference? Would it still be wrong?

Sure, in a few states it would be wrong. But in other states it would be right. This is where we must separate legality from morality. If it's perfectly legal to bonk a 16-year-old in Tennessee, does that make it morally "right"? Since when does location determine morality? It's ridiculous to think that sex with a 16-year-old is repulsively wrong in one location, but perfectly acceptable and ignored in another a few hundred miles away.

If we start looking at statutory rape in terms of morality, we have a huge gray area, for which there is no clear-cut solution, despite what Dr. Phil so desperately wants to believe. Never mind the fact that there are 15-year-olds who are more mature than some 21-year-olds I've known. But that's a subjective observation that some would vehemently disagree with.

I know most of the people that read this will be offended, but that's just some tough shit you'll have to chew. Morality is a tough issue that is subjective in most cases. What's perfectly OK for one person may be horribly wrong for another.

During the day, while I am cleaning up the kitchen or doing laundry, I crank up my iHome and boogie to the music, cuz, let's face it - chores are a lot easier to do when you "whistle while you work" so to say. But when the evenings roll around and Gila Man is home on Monday nights, he does the job that I usually do; the get-Mr.-B-ready-for-bed job.

After Mr. B's bath, teeth, jammies, story, prayers, and being "tucked in like a burrito", Gila Man finally said goodnight and started walking out the door.

"But Daddy," Mr. B cried, "What about my song?"
"What song?" he replied.
"Momma always sings me a song before I go to sleep."
"Ok, I'll sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star?"
"No thank you, Daddy. I want the song You Want A Piece Of Me. Do you know dat one?"

A moment of silence, and then,

"Hey, SARAH?!?" Gila Man yelled, "I think it's time for YOU to take over..."

The Dream and the Pain! On the Road to Being The Poor Chef...

I want to let you in on what it has been like making a cooking show: The ups and downs and some ways to go about getting on TV.

This is not an easy journey but can be done with a lot of hard work and effort. You also need to have a good product and find ways to go around the road blocks and also not make bad choices.

Today is May 6th and it has been a great few months with The Poor Chef. We have seen a lot of success with the segment on NBC and our seasoning line that is now on shelves, our new cookbook deal and The Poor Chef magazine in the works, with all the national attention and press we have gotten, it would be a piece of cake, LOL!

We currently write for Soul Food Magazine as well as do a weekly radio segment, www.blogtalkradio.com. I wanted to write this so people looking to get into the business has a chance to understand the process, as well as see the ups and downs. We pride ourselves on being very creative and thought many people get to see a show complete and being aired on their favorite network, the glitz and the glamour but done see much of the hard work or rejection that comes with the journey.

We started with a simple idea that came from my son, I wanted to be able to feed him on limited funds (and I'm not saying I'm broke) LOL, what I mean is that being a single father is tough and feeding someone healthy is also a task, so I figured a great way to learn and show how to do such a thing could come from seeing real people do it. Long story short: I took some money and shot a decent pilot, we made due with what I had, and I realized very fast that we had a great concept.

I had just moved to Florida from California and this small town was no Sunset Blvd or Hollywood studio. I made a few calls and set up meetings with some networks out here. The first network was ABC. I met with the general manager and he told me that they did not want to do anymore cooking shows but thought after meeting me and seeing what we were doing that he would love to get me on possibly once a week. After about a week he had me on the news section of the show and it went great! We were trying to figure out what we would do and in the mean time I did a few other shows like CBS, and also NBC's Daytime. I knew we needed to get on TV, to one day get on TV, so we spoke to NBC about doing a once-a-week segment and they said yes. We knew we had something very special on our hands.

We were able to do a weekly show on Daytime in Tampa that was syndicated in six markets; it was great working with so many people of all races and making fun dishes. We quickly became a name in our local area. I had some great people working but also got to see a lot about people as well. I'm not saying I'm perfect in any way but the dream I have is to help the ones around me do well, and I have been the horse to ride off into the sunset what needs to be done, a lot of people don't see that and a lot of people have their own selfish gains.

The ride like any ride is bumpy at times but the joys and where we area at now is what makes you smile at the end of a long day. I wanted to share this and many other stories as well as what keeps me going and brings me joy, it's not all about a show. I, being the nephew of Bob Marley, have allowed me to want to express my voice in many ways and i have some causes I want to bring to the light. Not just a TV show The Poor Chef is a way of life and a movement to educate on wellness and on health.

Old Trinity Church - Mason, TN

Old Trinity Episcopal Church is located in Mason, TN. It was founded in 1847 in the place of Saint Andrew's Church, which had burned two years earlier.

For many years, the church was not taken care of and the church and cemetery was vandalized by a small Satanic cult. They broke most of the gravestones, and vandalized the church building.

Behind the church there is a statue of the Virgin Mary which serves as a gravestone for a woman who died in 1912. It is said that this statue bleeds from the eyes and neck.

There are also stories that the church and the cemetery are haunted. People have reported seeing strange lights and hearing noises. Local legend says that the people buried in the cemetery are distressed over the vandalism of their graves.

I have only been to this cemetery once and it was during the daytime. Perhaps I will return some time, but be aware -- I have heard that the caretaker has installed trip wires to keep people from trespassing.

Cada dia veiem el mateix: agències de publicitat i de mitjans recomanant als seus clients que inverteixin el gruix del seu pressupost publicitari en les franges del vespre/nit, el que s’anomena “prime-time”. Malgrat el seu cost prohibitiu, i malgrat l’evidència creixent del cansament de l’audiència pel que fa el bombardeig continu de spots de cada vespre. Hem arribat a comptar blocs de fins a 20 minuts seguits de publicitat, quan la llei només n’admet 10 minuts.

Cada dia, nous estudis mostren evidències de la ineficiència d’aquesta elecció, i a pesar d’això, la indústria insisteix en repetir els mateixos errors. Perquè? Potser perquè a la gent li agrada veure els seus propis anuncis, potser perquè el sistema de remuneració per comissions es basa en la quantitat de diners invertida. I és clar, el prime-time implica sumes importants de diners. A més, l’estratègia prime-time prohibeix les PYMEs anunciar-se, ja que implica inversions sobre dimensionades.

Una solució? Segur que no existeix una única via, però si algú vol sortir d’aquest cercle viciós que contacti amb TVLowCost.

I love traveling, I’ve been all over the world with my high school band. I would love to visit Europe again and the East Coast. I’d love to venture to places I have yet to discover like Asia (especially Japan) and Australia. Though I’ve traveled to quite a few countries in Europe like France, Switzerland, Germany, and Italy I’d love to go to England and Ireland. I feel a kinship to those places. No matter how much I want to travel or how many beautiful places there are to discover in the world, I still love my home.

On the road today I decided to take some quick snapshots with my Sidekick LX phone. Just scenes that I thought were pretty. The quality of the pictures isn’t great but it’s good enough to capture a few shots here and there.

Actually, I need a new camera….anyone have any suggestions? Nothing too expensive. I have the digital Cannon EOS Rebel Xt but that’s more for work and actual portrait photography. I want a handy little camera that fits in my purse and is sleek and light and easy to take anywhere. I was contemplating buying the powershot. I’m not sure what I want yet, I guess I have to do some research. If anyone out there has any suggestions to a good, sleek little camera with good quality of pictures and no delay, please give me your suggestions! There is so much beauty in the world. If only more people stopped to appreciate it.

General Hospital: Stop the violence

Dear General Hospital,

First of all, I'm a little embarrassed to be writing you. How am I still invested in your well-being? Why am I still watching you at your worst?

Because you used to be so, so good. Like Lost good--addictive, well-written, with characters you rooted for and invested in. (For example, I sobbed during last week's episode when (just in case--SPOILER ALERT!) Sun went to Jin's grave with their baby. I'm hoping like you wouldn't believe that he's really stranded on the island and they're faking his death. But I digress...)

You know, soap operas like you get a bad rap. Probably because your characters tend to have evil twins, return from the dead (even when they've had their organs given away after they flatlined), suffer from amnesia, date their cousins, etc. I don't mind it--they're staples of the genre.

But what irks me about when people rag on daytime soaps is that when done right, they can be truly great. At their best, they focus on the characters and their rich, intertwined histories, pay attention to continuity between years and even decades of episodes, and show a fearlessness in tackling controversial subjects. It shouldn't go unnoticed that these same qualities are what make current primetime faves like Lost, Heroes and Grey's Anatomy so popular with viewers and heavily debated and dissected on message boards.

So back to you, GH. You were once amazing, and now you're a mess. I don't even know where to start. Okay I do: Sonny Corinthos.

Here's a guy who was once a part of the hottest love triangles on TV ever. Sure, he was a mob boss, but he and and Brenda had just awesome chemistry, and he seemed mostly a good person, so I didn't care that much. Ten years later, he's barely a hero, let alone a romantic hero.

Basically, Sonny is supposed to be daytime's Tony Soprano. But unlike Sonny, Tony had at least a bit of self-awareness and likability. A quick breakdown on what he's been up to the past few weeks:

-His son Michael bought a gun and bullets, and then dropped the gun and accidentally ended up shooting Sonny's girlfriend.

-The son thinks he killed the girlfriend, and because he was raised so well, doesn't bother to call 911, just runs away because Sonny said that if he ever found him with a gun, he should "run and keep running." So he did.

-Sonny thinks a rival mob family shot his girl and kidnapped his boy, so he kidnaps the son of the crazy head of the family and holds him in some abandoned psych hospital (because all soap towns should have at least one), and continues to hold him there even after his loyal hitman tries to reason with him that this mob family had nothing to do with it, and that there's growing evidence of a connection between Michael disappearing and Kate getting shot.

-While his son is missing, Sonny spends lots of time hanging out with his girlfriend in the hospital, reminiscing about their high school days, and gives her an ugly hat as a "sorry you were shot because of me but I still want a future with you" gift. I swear if anyone just tuned randomly into one of their scenes, they would think Sonny didn't have a care in the world.

I won't go on, because you know how crappy your plotting it is. But even you have to read that and shake your head in disbelief. Because the violence that you've been airing is out of control. I'm tired of serial killers, mob wars, random explosions, hit and runs, miscarriages, pistol whippings, hostage takings and monkey viruses. Reading back what I wrote, the fact I tuned into watch all of the above now seems masochistic.

Instead of blowing money on CGI "special" effects so we can see a building explode, use it to bring back the Nurses Ball. And Lucy Coe. Just those two things alone would brighten up this show considerably. And if you insist on killing off characters once a month, instead of offing the doctor or sweet college student or cute cop or an unborn child, why not the people who perpetrate the violence but never directly deal with the consequences?

Because I'm super close to stop watching you. It's just not worth my time to watch an episode looking for potential of your past glory days. Especially when a lot of your old shows are now on YouTube. And I just received Friday Night Lights from Netflix.

Vi ricordo che stasera, ore 19.50 ci sarà il consueto daytime.

Seguendo su skyvivo si sono viste alcune prove per le canzoni di lunedì prossimo: Tony canterà Luce di Elisa, e non sembrava tanto contento, Vittoria canterà What's Up dei 4 non blondes, Dante Sexy back, Luna Gelosia, Annalisa Mentre tutto scorre, gli Aram Quartet The lion sleeps tonight e i 4sound Mrs Robinson... Gli altri non li ho visti...

Perdonate questi giorni di silenzio, ma ho avuto problemi alla linea adsl. Ora sono tornato e pronto a mettermi di nuovo in marcia. Dopo quasi una settimana di casting visti nel daytime, cosa ne pensate? Fatecelo sapere, anche nel nostro FORUM.

Inoltre stiamo cercando possibili autori per questo blog: se qualcuno di voi ha intenzione di partecipare ci scriva o qui, lasciando una mail, oppure direttamente nel forum. Cerchiamo di allargare la famiglia di X-Factor ITALIA!!!

Vi ricordo inoltre, che anche stasera ci sarà il daytime, alle 19.50 circa, su raidue. Non perdetelo!

Routines

I am a creature of habit. It's occasionally annoying, but it's very true. I would say it's probably only annoying when I need to change my routine; otherwise, I don't generally care.

Today, my normal routines have been disrupted. You see, I generally get up, do the normal waking-up things, eat breakfast, and then check my email (in the exact same order every day, of course). Afterward, I do chores and do the things which I planned to do when I woke up that morning.

Today, someone I live with stayed home. This means I am not alone. Do you see why this is a problem? No?

When I'm alone, I can move freely throughout the house. If there are dishes to be done, the sink will naturally be free and the kitchen empty, so I can do them when I planned to do them. If I need to dust, there will be no one standing in front of something I need to dust, no one using whatever it is I need to dust, no one taking up space in the room which needs dusting. I can eat when I planned to eat because there is no one in the kitchen or the dining room being in the way.

I'm not alone, so I can't do things whenever I planned to do them...because there is someone here, being in the way. My entire cosmos has tilted and I am not pleased.

My cat is not pleased, either, because the someone came and knocked on my bedroom door, which woke her from her daily twelve-hour nap.
