Los Razzie Awards premian a las peores películas del último año, separadas en categorías similares a las de los Premios Oscar. Este año dos películas arrasaron con los premios dejando sin pan ni pedazos a otros bodrios merecedores de la famosa Frambuesa de Oro. Norbit del director Brian Robbins y protagonizada por Eddie Murphy y I Know Who Killed Me del director Chris Sivertson y protagoniozada por la desastroza Lindsay Lohan, lograron alzarse con la mayor cantidad de premios a lo peor de Hollywood. Como un avance de los próximos Razzie Awards, hay una que ya pinta como ganadora absoluta y desde ya, está número 1 en la categoría de las 100 peores películas de todos los tiempos en IMDB. Daddy Day Camp: predictable and so very run-of-the-mill.

The sequel to Daddy Day Care, a funny and entertaining 2003 film, Daddy Day Camp was over before it even started for the six in the small cinema I saw the movie. I could 'read it like a book' and knew the ending a third of the way through the movie.

Like many sequels, the movie reeks of the 'try-hard' feeling you get when the screenwriters add in unfunny gags you've seen before. Flatulence jokes might appear hilarious to the analytical four year old, but those with more years behind them would find this movie not so enjoyable. After all, this is a movie aimed at kids.

The plot follows Charlie Hinton, played by Cuba Gooding, Jr. as he attempts to run a day camp for children, after his refusal to send his child to Camp Canola, a camp he has held a grudge since it won the Camp Olympics when he was a child.

It was the typical story: dad gets over protective, grandad runs the place differently, dad gets annoyed and starts fighting with him.

The characters played their part well, except I would be rather upset with acting in a movie like Daddy Day Camp.

Overall, Daddy Day Camp was an unnecessary sequel: I rate it 2/5.

5.) Roland Joffe for Captivity
Okay, so this isn't the worst movie of the year. I can think of four worse than this, but this gets special points for audaciousness in its advertising. Pushing the envelope with the MPAA was one thing, but putting an explicit, violent billboard across the street from a Los Angeles elementary school was something entirely different. Being this audacious requires you to back it up with a genre bending film. Or at least a halfway decent one. Captivity was neither.

4.) Les Mayfield for Code Name: The Cleaner
Hey, how awesome would it be if we took the story of The Bourne Identity, made the character black and, instead of actually being a secret agent who has lost his memory, he is actually a janitor who has lost his memory and believes he is a secret agent? As it turns out, it isn't awesome at all. In fact, it's a mildly offensive, complete waste of time that is never even remotely funny. Can we just start calling him Cedric now? Because I've yet to find him entertaining.
3.) Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer for Epic Movie
Oh lord, where does one even begin? If the Zucker Brothers and Jim Abrams were dead, they would be spinning in their graves fast enough to power a small city. Of course, they're not dead, but these two knucklehead's careers should be. Except that they're not. They're moving on to continue the trend of simply badly rewriting every movie that came out this year with Meet the Spartans.

If there is any god at all he's set aside a special circle of hell for these two. One filled with air-conditioned movie theaters playing only their movies. Tough choice. The fires of hell, or watching these movies for all eternity. Personally, I'd take the fire.
2.) Sean McNamara for Bratz: the Movie
Vapid, empty and almost entirely nonsensical, this film's worst crime is that it might convince even a single girl out there that this is what you are supposed to act like. If you desire a materialistic daughter that worships a number of poorly derived stereotypes, then I highly recommend you put this painful piece of drivel in her stocking this Christmas. Just don't blame me when she maxes out your MasterCard on her quest to quench her Passion for Fashion (TM).
1.) Fred Savage for Daddy Day Camp
You know, there was a time when I thought Bratz would be the worst thing I would see all year. That lasted six days until I saw this movie. And it makes everything else look like a masterpiece. If I could offer Mr. Savage (yes, it is THAT Fred Savage) one piece of advice, it would be this: learn about the use of the name Alan Smithee and consider using it from here on out. You have nothing to be proud of. Not anymore.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry (July 20): Adam Sandler and Kevin James star as NYC firefighters who pretend to be gay lovers so they can get domestic-partner benefits. Sounds enlightening, doesn't it? Nothing like gaming the system through stereotypes, because you just know one of them will overact as the "female" - actually, it's more likely they'll spend the entire movie fighting over who has to be the female. Expect some gay-bashing. Director Dennis Dugan has worked with Sandler before (Big Daddy and Happy Gilmore), so at least you know what's coming on that front. A deep and whimsical comedy, this ain't. Why, there might even be protests, which would unfortunately give the movie more pub than it probably deserves.

Hairspray (July 20): Another Broadway musical comes to Hollywood, but don't expect another Chicago. And in the role of actor-who-dresses-in-drag-to-boost-his-flagging-career, we have John Travolta, who plays Edna, mother to Tracy (Nikki Blonsky). Christopher Walken is the dad. I'm sure Walken's deadpan delivery will help, unless he decides to mail it in, but I'm skeptical this will be a big hit. I bet it outgrosses I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, though.

The Bourne Ultimatum (August 3): Yet another third in a series. Somehow it's become conventional Hollywood wisdom that so-called franchises, for the most part, run three movies long, like X-Men, the Star Wars prequels, The Matrix, Spider-Man, and so on. Anyway, Matt Damon's back as the amnesiac spy, and I think he's grown a bit in the role over two movies. His Jason Bourne is still trying to track down his past, and I hope he's not successful. I sort of imagine he won't be. Joan Allen, Brian Cox, and Julia Stiles return, and we also get David Strathairn and Paddy Considine. Paul Greengrass returns as director. Like I said, Damon seems to be growing into the role somewhat; in the first movie and part of the second, he seemed to be... well, more of a cipher, more wispy than substantive as a Tough Spy Guy. I mean, come on, he's Matt Damon, not Jason Statham. Still, he has an excellent cast surrounding him, and the movies so far have been pretty well written. Could be a quiet hit.

Rush Hour 3 (August 10): Shameless mugging will take place for approximately two hours beginning August 10. Casual dress expected; watch out for kicking and punching. Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker again play mismatched cops. First, they were in the US. Next, China. And now, throwing all logic out the window, they schlep to... Paris! Of course, why not. Well, specifically, California, but it'll LOOK like Paris, which is almost as good. Makes you wonder why they didn't shoot this in Quebec, Canada. At any rate, I'm sure hilarity will ensue as wacky coincidences team up with miscommunications both physical and linguical.

Daddy Day Camp (August 8): Double-you. Tee. Eff. Cuba Gooding, Jr. is like the Fernando Tatis of actors. Okay, maybe not. Tatis was famed in baseball for hitting two grand slams in one inning, and then he did nothing else in his career. Gooding, Jr. won an Oscar and has done a whole lotta squat since then. Does his agent own his soul, or something? I can't imagine someone winning an Oscar and getting/accepting so many pathetic roles. Well, maybe Whoopi Goldberg, post-Color Purple, but still. Will Gooding ever get another decent role? Not only does this look like a terrible, punchless family "comedy," it's a sequel to Eddie Murphy's own terrible, punchless family "comedy," Daddy Day Care. What, was Major Payne the inspiration here? Yuck.

Ya know what? I bet I can do more of these, but it's time to call it a day.
