After executives at an Ann Arbor venture capital firm discovered an anonymous, negative Internet posting about the company, they weren't just mad: They decided to sue.

In a court filing, EDF Ventures accused "John Doe" of defamation for implying in a comment posted on the Web that the people running the firm were dishonest. The comment was made on a California-based Web site called The Funded, which was created to allow entrepreneurs to rate investors anonymously.
A computer virus is a computer program that can infect other computer programs by modifying them in such a way as to include a (possibly evolved) copy of it. Note that a program does not have to perform outright damage (such as deleting or corrupting files) in order to be called a "virus".

Many people use the term loosely to cover any sort of program that tries to hide its (malicious) function and tries to spread onto as many computers as possible. Viruses are very dangerous; they are spreading faster than they are being stopped, and even the least harmful of viruses could be fatal. For example, a virus that stops a computer and displays a message, in the context of a hospital life-support computer, could be fatal. Even the creator of a virus cannot stop it once it is "in the wild".

Ventura County Star, 18 August 2008

In an ironic twist, a bill to help stop cyberbullying in California schools may end up in political limbo because of the governor's attempt to bully lawmakers into passing a state budget.

The measure by Assemblyman Ted Lieu, D-Torrance, gives educators the authority to suspend or expel bullies who use text messages or the Internet during school, going to or from school or during off-campus school activities, to pick on fellow students.

Assembly Bill 86 is nearing passage in the Legislature. After clearing the Senate on Monday, it headed back to the Assembly — where it already passed easily — in order for lawmakers to consider amendments tacked on in the Senate.

However, a frustrated Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger earlier this month turned up the pressure on lawmakers for their budget inaction by announcing he would veto any bill sent to him. So, once AB86 clears its remaining Assembly hurdle, it will be placed in some sort of legislative netherworld. Entering the community as a new PC owner / operator - it seems everybody and their kid brother are experts compared to self - in other words - which we all know is nothing further from the truth, and as they say LOL (laughing out loud) though I hate ever seeing that phrase (too quaint and outgrown, immature is the one sense).

This is what the www.BlueCollarPC.Net was launched for - MALWARE REMOVAL HELP ! .... it is a shame this has happened - people thinking they have to chuck their PC in the trash if infected - when it only cost about 50 dollars for FULL malware removal by a quality product such as Trend Micro security products.

FOR WHAT IT IS WORTH 2 U ALL..... I recently purchased the Trend Micro Internet 2008 Security suite that includes firewall, antivirus, antispyware. In ALL lab tests world wide this product got PERFECT scores. This includes against ALL known viruses, trojans, rootkits, adware, spyware, and ALL category threats. This is NOT hype. This is REAL, so that I can make my simple point to anyone that has been involved with this - and here that is..... I began on my first Windows XP Home Edition PC in Nov., 2001. I "went to town with it for the longest time, couple years actually.... downloading and trying everything under the sun. Visiting every website category in the world. Joining forums, boards, and groups. Actually falling asleep at the running computer over night. I discovered about the other threats - adware and spyware - after always regarding and using Norton Antivirus as the most trusted at those times and worldwide. Since that point, the rest was history for me. I tore out my pc a new butt - fearing nothing. This was because I learned that the unscrupulous were spying on us all and quite easily. This is also when I learned about the no longer new antispyware products - some even in their infancy at the time. So the whole point...

The whole point is for what it is worth, that simply based on becoming an "Advanced User" because of this (knowing my machine like the back of my hand) and over a zillion possibilities probably over and above a normal user (the "game boy" attitude) of infections - but adding that I have since continually used personally tested top products and manual inspections - through it all, with this one moment in time when a quality product did INDEED get perfect scores in ALL known testing by throwing all known and unknown threats at it and it detected them - just by that one moment in time and running it on my 7 year old XP PC and got a clean bill of health NO INFECTIONS..... well my point is that I must know what I am talking about as far as PC Security because I passed ! Again I mention that I visited even all those "dark sides of the internet" they say to not visit practicing 'safe browsing' and have even been attacked by many rogue elements out there - and for one example, being sent 200 viruses a month in the old fake security Microsoft Newsletters... all reported and were obviously from perhaps one of the first malware botnets lists as they were not shut down for two months. I mean like outright attacks by the cyber criminal underground as a "snitch" or "whistle blower" and so on. And my point was that I got a perfect score as "clean" by a perfect product we all know was and here is that information to prove what I am saying about my XP machine:

<http://bluecollarpc.wordpress.com/2008/01/30/trend-microtm-internet-securitytm-2008-achieves-top-scores-in-anti-malware-testing/> ..... Do you get it ? This is the same as CERTIFIED ! So my point is that my opinion by experience should be respected as such and I am telling those persons that there was absolutely no need to throw their PC in the trash even beyond a possible other scam for profit I mention here:

<http://bluecollarpc.wordpress.com/2008/05/18/threat-removals-reformat-reinstall-windows-or-conventional-removal-softwares/> You can find out about 'Unscrupulous PC Repair" at like the BBB Better Business Bureau or any search engine. Scams like the gall to charge a person over 100 Dollars to reinstall Windows to remove viruses instead of saying "that is like killing the patient to cure the disease" and explaining ANY quality antivirus (good handful in the industry) will take care of these category threats at about a 30 Dollar purchase - and you would have a better chance of getting hit by lightening then being infected. I am talking about the tops like Symantec Norton, Trend Micro, Kaspersky, NOD32 and a few more and NOT something like example ABCQuality Virus Remover crapware. Thirty dollars ! Poof - infections gone in one scan ! It adds to wonder how much software was thrown out with the computers - a hundred dollars, a thousand dollars worth ? OUCH ! We in the know are very sorry for you who know better.

But again, not to toot my own horn, but rather for my own confidence and reassurance - there was this one moment in time when this one product was known to have scored perfect against all antivirus and antispyware category threats (all threats known) and it was telling me that I scored perfect. I successfully have kept my 'puter clean as a whistle against threats. That definitely means that as an average consumer who has paid attention and did some research and learned to manually inspect my computer that I do know what I was talking about. This is why I expect persons respect my opinions and views and heed or add to them. I got an A+ from the top known source - the top of the top, the best, of the anti-malware industry known and certified in all circles as that "smoking gun" to prove a simple personal computer was absolutely clean of malware - just that one moment in time because for these products this is almost a blue moon in today's suites. I always add that by personal testing that Trend Micro has always been the best antispyware product and this current test proved that as well. Other suites may fail due to lesser antispyware products when their antivirus is one of the best. But Trend Micro wan BOTH ! This was the whole point of the smoking gun - both side threats were tested and Trend passed to make the point that it was virtually guaranteed I have a clean computer system. I hope those mentioned understand what was said. I hope you learn of our websites and extended groups and join and use them. The www.BlueCollarPC.Net has enjoyed over 4 million Visitors and we seem to attract the smart crowd as self-helpers that need just that extra bit of information. This was the theme of the BlueCollarPC.Net and added .Org - a community website of shared public information for malware removal help.

Reality goes that in the last 1,000 days there has been a public campaign by our Government (USA) and the security industry to make the public aware. There is the flip side that there is an environment by others who shun this knowledge and emergency as "bad for business" - and even at help groups shunning quality products and information not wanting "their members" upset. And it is on and on and vast. There are the cyber criminal mules at help sites constantly feeding the public "dumb pills" to keep them their marks for illicit gain. And there are the anarchists no doubt who simply allow the worldwide botnets to own their computers for there illegal deeds in return for free piracy softwares. That is complicity my friend and quite illegal and punishable by Law.

I hope I have reached persons mentioned in the center piece article of news and hopefully you will discover there is no need to ever throw your computer in the trash again because of malware. For us in the know, this was a very, very sickening thing to observe in the news with the choler against cyber crime by us. They got you. Now get them !

The good news is that ID theft is on the decline. The bad news is that ID theft still affected 8.1 million Americans last year, according to Javelin Strategy and Research - down 3.6 percent from 8.4 million in the previous year’s study. The average amount lost per individual as a result of ID theft last year was about $5,500, for a total of $45 billion. Despite the decline in reported ID theft, Better Business Bureau (BBB) warns that thieves and hackers still lurk online and is offering advice consumer can use to protect their personal and financial information…..

A new type of narrative is taking hold among the coverage of the military conflict between Russia an

A new type of narrative is taking hold among the coverage of the military conflict between Russia and Georgia. A number of sites are writing about the "cyberwarfare" being waged by pro-Russian forces against the Georgian government. It seems that, like Estonia a year ago, entities evoking the ire of Russia must be forced to combat widespread botnet-based DDoS attacks. I think there is little doubt that such occurrences will be increasingly part of real-world conflicts, but people are rushing into framing this as warfare, which will only lead to military-based reactions - something I fear.

But before we irrevocably frame the issue as one of war, we need to ask if it even is so. Last year during the Estonia attacks, Tim Lee wrote a post arguing that what was happening was little more than petty vandalism. While the media reported that the government, banks and media in Estonia were being targeted, it was really only their public websites. He asked, would the average American even notice if Congress's website was down?

"I suppose it would be a bit of a pain if I wasn’t able to check CNN or my bank account balance. But that’s not “cyber war.” It’s petty vandalism. It deserves the attention of network security experts at the companies whose websites were targetted, of course, but it’s ridiculous to get NATO involved or to act as though Russia engaging in this kind of “cyber warfare” is even remotely on par with Russia launching cruise missiles against Estonian targets."

Although in Georgia, obviously, real war is taking place, the cyberattacks don't seem to be taking down critical infrastructure. Instead, the websites of government ministries have been compromised. In response, the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has created a blog using Google's hosted service. With Google's network engineers protecting the integrity of the site, the ministry can use it to provide information updates. Will other governments come to depend on hosted solutions for their websites? So far consumers and commerce have taken to cloud computing with a vengeance, and one wonders if government, too, will do so. The same benefits of outsourcing internal IT will make it useful for governments to host their websites at specialized hosting services.

Worldwide Faith News, 4 August 2008

A group calling itself "Anonymous," specializing in on-line vandalism, obscenity, and harassment, has
stepped up its attacks on ethnic and religious minorities and individual citizens -- and church human rights groups, including the Queens
Federation of Churches, are sounding the alarm.

"These people are truly cyber-terrorists," said Rev. N. J. L'Heureux, Jr., Executive Director of the Queens Federation of Churches, who serves
as the Moderator of the National Council of Churches Committee on Religious Liberty. "Their manifestos and their campaigns are aimed at
creating as much destruction as possible."

Among those whose pain Anonymous laughs at, are those who suffer from epilepsy. Wired.com reported that hackers, likely Anonymous, had
descended on an epilepsy support message board and used code and flashing animation to trigger migraine headaches and seizures in some
users. Anonymous responded, "The epilepsy raid was mostly win, but there was one glaring failure, in that nobody died from our attacks."

When a Finnish Anonymous poster named Pekka-Eric Auvinen said online that he was going to kill people at his high school, another Anonymous
member wrote, "DO IT, FAGGOT." On November 7, 2007, Auvinen killed nine people including himself.

Most recently, June 27, 2008, as reported by MTV News, Anonymous hackers defaced two popular Hip-Hop music websites, substituting fake headlines
and obviously photoshopped pictures saturated with racial slurs and other offensive terms. The CEO of SOHH.com, one of the attacked sites,
issued a statement saying, "It appears that hackers are specifically targeting Black, Hispanic, Asian and Jewish youth who ascribe to hip-hop
culture."

The New York Times Magazine (August 3, 2008) focused on "The Trolls Among Us," examining Internet message boards which have spawned groups
such as "Anonymous."

In 2007, Fox News documented some of the crimes of Anonymous: destroying websites, death threats and spreading lies about people's lives.

Anonymous posted their response on YouTube with a creepy synthetic voice-over: "We are the face of chaos and the harbingers of judgment. We
laugh in the face of tragedy. We'll mock those who are in pain. We rush the lives of other people simply because we can. Hundred die in a plane
crash. We laugh. The nation mourns over a school shooting, we laugh. We're the embodiment of humanity with no remorse, no caring, no love, or
no sense of morality."

Meeting in Los Angeles on May 6th, a group of more than 100 law enforcement and government officials, clergy and educators discussed the
rise of Internet hate crimes, with the activities like Anonymous featuring prominently.

"Anonymous has even called themselves 'Legion,' a reference to the demons cast out by Christ in Marc 5:9 and Luke 8:30," says L'Heureux.
"People of all faiths, working with law enforcement as necessary, should see that this sort of cyber-crime is cast out of the Internet, and the
real world, both."

One afternoon in the spring of 2006, for reasons unknown to those who knew him, Mitchell Henderson, a seventh grader from Rochester, Minn., took a .22-caliber rifle down from a shelf in his parents’ bedroom closet and shot himself in the head. The next morning, Mitchell’s school assembled in the gym to begin mourning. His classmates created a virtual memorial on MySpace and garlanded it with remembrances. One wrote that Mitchell was “an hero to take that shot, to leave us all behind. God do we wish we could take it back. . . . ” Someone e-mailed a clipping of Mitchell’s newspaper obituary to MyDeathSpace.com, a Web site that links to the MySpace pages of the dead. From MyDeathSpace, Mitchell’s page came to the attention of an Internet message board known as /b/ and the “trolls,” as they have come to be called, who dwell there.

Nine Msn News, 31 July 2008

Jarrad Willis was found dead on July 8 in the Melbourne suburb of Frankston, police said. The circumstances around the death will be the subject of a coronial investigation.

Willis, 21, was due to face Frankston Magistrates Court on charges of criminal defamation, which were related to circulating an email rather than the threat posted to website 4chan.

The hoax threat, posted to 4chan's infamous /b/ imageboard, claimed a shooting rampage would occur at the Grove shopping centre in Beverly Hills on December 6, 2007.

"This is my last message, tomorrow a shooting will go down at 189 The Grove Drive, Los Angeles … I will not stop until I am incapacitated or killed by a police officer," the threat read.

Police reacted by scrambling officers to the shopping centre and launching an international manhunt, which eventually tracked the message to Willis's IP address.

The police operation cost in excess of $100,000.

Willis, a 21-year-old philosophy student, was detained over the prank but never charged. Police later charged him with offences relating to other incidents.

The hoax attracted worldwide media attention and Willis gained notoriety among 4chan denizens.

4chan is an anarchic online community best known as a birthplace of many popular internet memes, including Rickrolling and LOLcats.

It is also intimately connected to Anonymous, the shadowy internet group that declared war on Scientology in January this year.

Willis's death is an open coronial case and no date has yet been set for an inquest.

Scientology Today reported already in June 2008:

Over 100 law enforcement and government officials, clergy and educators attended an interfaith conference in May at the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre International in Hollywood to address the growing problem of Internet hate crime and to see how they can work together to improve Internet safety and security.

Over 100 law enforcement and government officials, clergy and educators attended an interfaith conference in May at the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre International in Hollywood to address the growing problem of Internet hate crime and to see how they can work together to improve Internet safety and security (left).

A panel of leading experts shared their insights, professional experience and concern over how the Internet and advanced cell phones are used to perpetrate civil rights abuses, hate crimes, terrorism, fraud, identity theft, sex slavery, terrorism and pedophilia.

Internet technologists explained how the Internet is structured and used as the base for attack and as shelter to maintain anonymity, while millions of users are vulnerable at any given moment when logged on. Even big business and governments constantly battle with intruders attempting "break in" to steal money, assets, or valuable information.
Bishop Ted Frazier, President of the Faith-Based Coalition of the San Francisco Bay Area and guest speaker, stated, "I am shocked and dismayed at the types, severity and volume of crime and intolerance found online. This information is too valuable to sit on. We have to go state-wide with this, get every clergy council involved, become united, teach our communities these things."

The roster of notable speakers included Deputy Chief LAPD Michael Downing, who spoke about the encroachment of hate crime and terrorism on the Internet. Brad Dacus, the President of the Pacific Justice Institute posed and answered the question: Is religious freedom on thin ice? While he noted with considerable accuracy that religious institutions are under attack online, he also articulated the need for solidarity amongst all faiths to pull through and that conferences such as these are one of the mechanisms to do so. He punched home the principle that "a crime against one religion is a crime against all religions" so all religions should stand together against hate and intolerance.

Detective Chris Keeling of the Los Angeles Sheriff's Dept Gang & Hate Crimes Investigation Unit gave an in-depth view into how kids access far more information on the Internet than their parents or teachers would approve of, and how these secrets are masked, leaving the door open to danger from on-line predators.

Information technology specialists Mr. Andrew Duggan, President & CEO of Dynamic Energy Capital Inc, Mr. Ryan Sherstobitoff of Panda Security and Mr. Bob Lotter the CEO of eAgency, each articulated the risks and dangers inherent in the digital communications revolution, exploited by online criminal hackers, pedophiles, the 12-billion dollar sex slave industry and modern terrorist cells operating via secret networks, and they gave suggestions for solutions to these crimes.

In closing, four prominent clergy took the podium to express the power of solidarity when faiths join together as a cohesive whole. Dr. Edward Nasioki of the World Missionary Fellowship, Ms. Shazia Kamal of the Muslim Public Affairs Council and Bishop Ted Frazier of the Faith-Based Coalition of the San Francisco Bay area each articulated in their own special way the importance of a spiritual resolution to these evils. And the conference was closed by the indomitable Rev. Cecil (Chip) L. Murray, who offered a fitting prayer of strength, hope and love. Rev. Murray expressed what most attendees felt—that the conference gave "a superb lift to the faith-based community" and that much was accomplished.

Mr. Bob Adams, Vice President of the Church of Scientology International, which co-sponsored the event, said, "I am really pleased with the outcome, the enthusiastic response to the lessons provided by these experts. The Interfaith community came together in harmony and learned something that we can apply immediately to improve this vital problem."

If your upset I'm also posting on an Australian blogger once again I couldn't give a stuff. I went out about an hour and half ago and started my car, it went perfectly, went in to have a shower so could go to the shops got "I love watching you", sick, while having my shower there was a big thump against the bathroom wall outside, I actually said "was that meant for the car". Needless to say when I came out went to the car and tried to start it, do say tried, it was once again no go. I am having a lot of trouble typing at the moment, got hit by something about 45 minutes ago and wow, not funny, numbness tingling heart etc. Got after that "I'll do your dog later also". As I said somewhere, Please don't think Australia is safer than any other country, its not. They're just as sick and pathetic. Oh and, "Your lucky your on your feet", unqoute. I know for a fact a lot of the trouble comes from right out the back. I was at the kitchen sink one day when saw a ball of bright light come flying across the back yard from the corner, moved quickly but not quick enough, I spent the next half hour or more on the loungeroom floor trying to get over whatever had hit me. Plus getting electric shocks of surfaces. Another time in the laundry facing the wall washing and something hit me in the back of the head so ba nearly passed out straight away, got told "go near that door again and I'll turn it sky high". I was really sick that day for a long time after, I have put a mark exactly at the level I got hit, there was only one place it could come from, right behind me once again, probably the same person who used to give the dog fresh cooked bones at 4am.

I was looking through rental properties awhile ago on the net, the last time I went to look at a house for rent when I got back here later that day got "Move again and I'll fu**ing kill you," it must take extra effort to start things up again in different location hey? This time was looking at properties along the river got "You'll move where I tell you to", once again I say "get stuffed." The bitch is getting upset by what I'm typing as am getting cut off the internet again, and old save and publish button is bei

Lori Drew's attorney says the law being used to prosecute his client is flawed. H. Dean Steward represents Drew who is accused of using a fake identity on myspace to harass Megan Meier who later committed suicide. He filed 3 documents in Los Angeles federal court calling the law constitutionally vague and criminalizes something done by millions on-line daily. Steward also says prosecutors went too far to charge Drew with anything they could find.

California's Senate voted yesterday in favor of a bill that would allow schools to suspend or expel students who engage in cyberbullying. The State Assembly must now reconcile the Sentate's version with its own before deciding to send the legislation to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger for signature. If enacted, California will join other states like Iowa, New Jersey, Oregon, Minnesota and Missouri that have passed laws to try and prevent cyberbullying and harrassment.
