How's THAT for a title?

Yes, Rodney Scott McLagan of Hobart, Australia, hereinafter and for the rest of his natural life at the very least known as Octopus Sex Man, has been released from custody with a $1500 fine and a suspended four-month sentence for possessing 31,000 images of pony, snake, dog, tiger and octopus porn.

Said the judge:

"Without the opportunity for normal sexual relationships fantasy is often indulged. It also emerges from the report that you are particularly self-conscious about your teeth."

It is reportedly the first case of British teeth being responsible for a shokushu goukan fetish. Still, better that than throwing him back to try to swim in the human gene pool; It's polluted enough in those waters. The Zeta Male is (surprisingly, given his usual body composition) the very opposite of buoyant.

I suppose that's why he likes the bottom-feeding octopus.

Mandawli is a police station area in East Delhi and covers the area I live in. As such it is the fie

Mandawli is a police station area in East Delhi and covers the area I live in. As such it is the field of my ‘ethnography’. The reader may however put the name of any other police station in Delhi – rather India – and the story, I can bet, will read as true as ever. Let Mandawli then be the name of all the dens of YS Dadwal’s (the police commissioner Delhi, who famously claimed yesterday that ‘Even in New York women are not safe…’) men. PC Dadwal also has the distinction of claiming, against the growing feeling of insecurity among Delhi’s denizens, that crime is actually declining in the city! A Jansatta report yesterday, however, cites many ordinary people as saying that they are more scared of the police than of criminals.

17 July 2008: The Times of India (19 July) and other newspapers reported the death of 18-year old Umesh Kumar ‘who was picked up by the police for questioning’ two days ago and who died soon after returning home at night. The incident was of Swaroop Nagar in outer district, Delhi. Umesh did not live to tell his story but his friend, Atul, ‘who too was picked up by the police said: “The police took us to Ibrahimpur police post and started beating Umesh after which he lost consciousness.”

17 July 2008: Young Sampat (early twenties, name changed) is asked to report to the Mandawli police station. Apparently a routine matter of ‘haziri’. He has to report to the thana whenever he is called – and he can be called any time. Reason: He is now a ‘history sheeter’. He was arrested a year and a half ago on the alleged charge of theft of motorcycles, along with a couple of others. Three people had been named in one of the three FIRs that were produced in court (two merely being FIRs of reported theft). The case has been going on since then. Eventually, two cases had to be dropped for want of evidence and in the third, the only one whose FIR actually named three people, others were let off. Sampat, whose name figures nowhere, in none of the FIRs, continues to be ‘tried’. Apparently, or so the police told Sampat’s lawyer, they recovered some stolen bikes from him. In the meantime, the police decided that he was a dangerous criminal and to be put on the ‘history sheet’. Now whenever there is any theft in the neighbourhood – or any other incident for which the police has to answer, Sampat and a number of others like him are picked up and a press release is prepared and the ‘case is cracked’.

In Sampat’s case, the police has been trying to do something else. Rather, two things: one, it has been trying to get him to become an ‘informer’(a mukhbir) to use him to get ‘intelligence’ on criminal activities. Second, it has been using him (and many others) for other more honourable purposes. Right from the time that he was sent to Tihar jail (they call it judicial custody!), some constable or the other would come to their house at any odd hour of the day or night and ask: “Aur aapki kya seva karein?” (What service may we do for you?) The poor hapless family members never understood that they were only asking for service: They would let off the son without charges (after all he is not named anywhere) if only they were sensible enough to…But poor folks! They just didn’t get the ways of these people. “With you, For you, Always”: With a motto like that you can’t possibly ask for favours; you can only give, no? So, the family didn’t get it and so here he is: still an asamee, while the others, actually named in FIRs but with more seasoned parents, finally let off!
So they picked up Sampat on 17 July. No, picked up is not the right word. He was asked to report to PS Mandawli for ‘haziri’. He did and was detained. Sent to Kalyanpuri PS for the night with two new charges under section 107 and 150 CrPC. Once again, surprise surprse! They let off the other two (co-accused in the earlier case) as their parents made it in time. As a humourous aside, inside the Kalyanpuri PS, cops asked him repeatedly: “Daaru piyega? Chicken Magvaein?” I promise a dinner to anybody who can decode the meaning of this magnanimous offer. PC Dadwal might be able to tell us how much budget they have for history sheeters and criminals’ dinner/ in police lock-ups. Maybe he might want to tell us that they serve whiskey and chicken in New York prisons and lock-ups as well!

Meanwhile, a side story. About six months ago, while Sampat’s case was going on, one other young lad (age, about 21, let’s call him Arvind) who is very closely known to me, was walking down the road in front of our housing society complex. It was around 7 pm. Not very dark. He was accosted by a group of three/four young men on motor bikes. They slapped him and took away his mobile. Arvind went home and narrated the story to his parents and they came out with him to the spot where the incident had occurred. With nobody there, they waited. Looked around. And just then, two mobikes zipped past them with these fellows. Twice this happened. Clearly the boys were quite confident that nothing would happen to them in PS Mandawli. And how right they were. For, the third time Arvind’s brave mother just latched on to the zipping mobike and they managed to get hold of one of the guys. They call 100: With You, For You Always. No Reply. Again. No Reply. And then they come ‘online’, take the details and hang up. For almost one hour nobody surfaces. They call again and say: We have got the guy, please do come. Sure enough the ‘gypsy’ appears within fifteen minutes. They are all taken to PS Mandawli. From the person of this captured fellow wads of currency notes and jewellery and chains etc are recovered. While they are there, Arvind’s parents notice some people who have come to register their theft complaints and some of them seem to recognize their ‘chain’ or other jewellery. After this, the evidence you would imagine, is quite clear, prima facie. It takes however the whole night for the police to register the complaint. No one present wanted to be the one to register it. Hmmmm…. Interesting Mr Dadwal. Maybe that's how NYPD does it as well?

Meanwhile, the Jansatta with Amalesh Raju’s byline published on 19 July a front page anchor: “Badmashon se kam, Police se zyaada darte hain log”. The report is about areas like Vikas Marg, Laxmi Nagar, Shakarpur, Pandav Nagar, Vinod Nagar, Mayur Vihar, Kalyanpuri and…..Mandawli. His report based on interviews with a range of people from tradersand small shop-keepers to ordinary students shows this verdict to be unanimous: All they do is come for their weekly booty and harass. Badmashes only appear, according to these folk, once in a while. But these guys are there, With You, For You, Always! Amalesh Raju’s report tallies with my own ethnography and I hope to keep you posted on further results on PS Mandawli.

There's a marvellous excerpt here from Sara Paretsky's next V I Warshawski novel. And it looks so good. But also bad, from a point of view of the state of things in the US right now, but we shouldn't expect any different from Sara.

It looks like what Sara told me about the next book, when we met in March, is right on track. V I goes back to the past, and she has a new helper in the shape of a young relative.

Sara is being a good girl, and staying at home this summer, in order to write. That's what we like.

And while you're at it, check out her website. It's one of the best looking ones I've seen, and I'd love for it to be mine, in more ways than one.

The headlines all sound like everyone is so shocked that Brazilian Foreign Minister, Celso Amorim, made a comment which is true. He said that certain tactics employed by certain governments negotiating in the Doha trade round reminded him of the sort of things Nazis did. What's the big deal?

It's absolutely true.

Especially where he takes them to task for misrepresenting the talks and the ulterior motives many of the more industrial nations have in engaging in the talks. Contrary to what the headlines suggest and the official reaction of those retards who lead our country, I'm glad to hear someone in politics telling it like it is. Wish we had a few more of those sorts of politicians in our own country (and no, moonbats don't tell it like it is) to help Ron Paul out.

"Goebbels used to say if you repeat a lie several times it becomes a truth," Amorim said. And that is exactly one of the tools in the propaganda toolbox of all nations, including the United States' own political toolbox. In fact, George Bush's Presidency has pretty much been built upon that premise, as have the Clinton's careers. WMD's, blue dresses and airport snipers come to mind.

Are the WTO negotiators really that shocked at the accusation, or just the fact someone sees their tactics for what they are and called them on it? Our government and others are doing many things the Nazi regime once did, and have done the same or worse in the past. The recent revelation of the US military doing nothing and thereby condoning the machine-gunning of thousands of innocent civilian Koreans in the Korean War is merely one disgusting example of how our government hypocritically condones and allows atrocities and war crimes to occur...even AFTER using those same excuses to wage war on Germany.

What's shocking isn't that the Brazilian Foreign Minister made the accusations, but that more people don't know enough about politics and history to realize it is true that our government has agencies and politicians and workers in it every bit as corrupt or morally decrepit as any that served in the Nazi regime, and that they use the same tactics, and have perpetrated or condoned more than a fair share of evils of their own. Large industrial nations' governments are just more subtle in the way they persecute, kill, poison, imprison, destroy other nations, impose their will, take resources and enslave the masses.

Where it isn't so subtle is the terrible acting by those serving in governments.

The next time someone tries to tell you that the needs of the poor would overwhelm society unless go

The next time someone tries to tell you that the needs of the poor would overwhelm society unless government steps in, think of the good works of the Mechanicsville Lions Club, or the Little Flower School in Great Mills. If they tell you that government acts to correct the greedy selfishness of society, think of the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department in Southern Maryland.

These charities, and several others, are supported by the voluntary donations from video gambling machines, especially in St. Mary’s County. As of this month, though, the state has shut them down. All this spring, law enforcement officials have been raiding bingo halls and fire stations, ripping out machines that the state has deemed unworthy. (At one point, they were deemed illegal, but a May decision by the Circuit Court overrode that bit of busybody smugness).

Let’s make clear what we are discussing here. Small stores and restaurants set up these machines. Customers use the machines for entertainment, just like pinball machines or PacMan. No one is being robbed, all transactions are voluntary. Some of the revenues go to the stores, and some goes to a variety of charities.

Perfectly innocuous, and with a good cause, to boot. Yet the General Assembly felt threatened, and decided to make the games illegal. (Not the state lottery of course; that gives the politicians money to play with). The anti-gambling forces, the holier-than-thous, who paternalistically insist that they should be in charge of other people’s recreation, squeezed the game machines from one side. And the pro-slot forces, flacking for the racetrack owners, were afraid that these machines might provide competition for the slot machines they hope to see installed at racetracks – they squeezed the game machines from the other side. (Hey, if you want to use slots, you have to do it at the racetracks, where the owners are paying the politicians to ensure they have a monopoly).

And the small businesses in St. Mary’s, and the charities and public services dependent on the revenues? And the simple folk who liked to play the games? Poor bastards. No one was looking out for them. No one stood in their corner. They never stood a chance.

The National Guard and the U.S Border Patrol marked the end of Operation Jump Start during a ceremon

The National Guard and the U.S Border Patrol marked the end of Operation Jump Start during a ceremony one week ago in Washington, D.C. The commissioner of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which includes the Border Patrol, joined the chief of the Border Patrol and the chief of the National Guard Bureau at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center.

Operation Jump Start was a Guard mission to support the Border Patrol in providing security on America’s southern border. It began June 15, 2006, and officially ended Tuesday. During that time, more than 29,000 Guard soldiers and airmen from all 54 states and territories participated. At one time, 6,000 Guard troops were taking part in the mission while the Border Patrol hired and trained additional agents.

“We can all now admit that we did, in fact, need your help,” said W. Ralph Basham, CBP commissioner. “We needed your help desperately, as a matter of fact, to build a bridge (from) where we were two years ago in June 2006 (to) where we are now.”

David V. Aguilar, chief of the Border Patrol, said, “The partnership has worked. We have made America safer. As we have in the past – the Guard, the Border Patrol – we will continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder guarding and protecting our country.”

Lt. Gen. H Steven Blum, chief of the National Guard Bureau, said the partnership was an example of doing things the right way and will be studied by future leaders as a successful effort between two government organizations.

“If this country didn’t have a National Guard,” he said, “we’d be scrambling to invent one this morning.”

Editor's Note: This is crap! Why are they closing down the operation right before an election? SO THE ILLEGALS CAN VOTE. Don't try to sell me this crap. I can smell it a mile away.

For those of you with your arms up in the air, cool off for a minute. THIS IS THE BRASS, not the Troops. This is the political part of the National Guard with whom I have had several differences with before. Did you know they had a Senator's name down as a supporter of some bill that came up AFTER this same Senator HAD A STROKE and was hospitalized? (Still is, to the best of my knowledge.) That is when I stopped reporting their 'Notes'. I do believe I will do so again. I have so much work to do.

If you would care to continue receiving their notes and legislative alerts, here is their website. I'm through. Kaput. I've had it. Have a nice day.

If you've followed this blog, you will know that from time to time I have talked about the MWWS and how it relates to the media and police response. Well, of late, there was a string of military women stationed in North Carolina who were having a problem staying abducted-free and alive.

Now, we hear of another MMWWS (Missing Military White Woman Syndrome). This time, there seems to be a clue that there was problems between the missing woman and her husband that she was planning on leaving. For some reason, guys don't take women leaving them all that well. That's a little odd too. Considering how bravado men like to act. Deep down, they have real issues when the women in their lives pull up stakes.

Hopefully they'll find this woman alive.

Apparently, some Gardner youth got slashed in the hand at a park today by a man he didn't know. That is odd, for starters. Who stabs young people in parks? Don't answer that.

Welcome to the party, Gardner. You will now be known by more than the city where you can kill a guy in a fight and then watch the dead kid's father get in trouble because he's pissed his son died and you aren't spending time in jail....yeah..it was a mouthful, but that, until now, was Gardner's claim to fame. Now, they are cutting like the rest of us.

Zimbabwe's troubled central bank introduced $100 billion banknotes Saturday in a desperate bid to ease the recurrent cash shortages plaguing the inflation-ravaged economy.

The bills officially come into circulation Monday, although they were on the foreign currency dealers market Saturday.

As high as they are, though, the bills still aren't enough to buy a loaf of bread. They can buy only four oranges.

The new note is equal to just one U.S. dollar.

Once-prosperous Zimbabwe has seen an unprecedented economic meltdown since it gained independence in 1980, with the official inflation rate now at 2.2 million percent.

Having an IQ of 70 or less can render you unexecutable in the US. So Virginia faced a controversial decision 2006 when it sent Brandon Wayne Hedrik to his death.

He’d been found guilty of the protracted crime of kidnapping, robbing, raping and shooting one woman – a 23-year-old by the name of Lisa Crider.

His victim’s last hours were spent facing the whole gamut of crimes, before she was finally put out of her misery when Hedrik shot her in the face.

Mental ability

Hedrik was guilty that’s for sure, but the sticking point was his penalty. There were doubts as to whether he was equipped to comprehend what execution meant, much less choose his method of dispatch.

You see, the convicted killer had to make the agonising toss-up between the relatively new lethal injection and the state’s established method – the electric chair.

The problem was that he had an IQ of 76, just six above the legal minimum, so what about the margin of error, stated his defence. Yet the argument didn’t wash and he was sent to Virginia’s electric chair on this day on 2006, aged 27.

I read Chelsea Cain's Heartsick last year and thoroughly enjoyed it, even if I did figure out the murderer halfway through. *sigh* One of these days, crime novels will start surprising me again. The sequel, Sweetheart, focuses a lot more on the relationship between cop Archie Sheridan and prisoner Gretchen Lowell, the serial killer who infiltrated her own murder investigation (as in, the investigation into her murders, not...oh, you know what I mean).

I found Gretchen a lot less terrifying in this book, probably because the background we get on her and Archie humanises her a lot more - we see her more as a manipulative, messed-up woman than a serial killer, even though she still gets a decent body count. I wasn't overly happy about the greater detail that Cain goes into about their shared past - it demystifies it for me, and there were certain aspects that I felt were a little cliched and I had been expecting her to avoid.

Susan, the plucky girl reporter and sometimes sidekick of Archie, is sidelined a lot more in this book - it's his story, not hers (that was Heartsick), but we still get some fabulous scenes between her and her mother, Bliss Mountain, as well as an insight into the harsh realities of her journalism career.

Sweetheart is billed as being part of 'The Gretchen Lowell Series', which implies there are more books to come. Certainly Sweetheart gives the impression of paving the way for further adventures - it's filling in the gaps, giving us a deeper impression of the characters - but at the end of the day, I want more from my crime novels than several hundred pages of exposition with a funky cover.

Source: Daily Mail

In our long climb out of the darkness of despotism, some moments shine out particularly brightly. One of these was Sir Edward Coke's majestic judgment in 1604 that 'The house of every one is to him as his castle and fortress, as well for his defence against injury and violence as for his repose.'

Without a private place in which to live his life and raise his family, a man is not free. If the State can march in when it feels like it, then we live in a tyranny.

We all accept that sometimes the police may need to force their way into a house. But it is hard to see why we now need 1,043 separate laws allowing thousands of State inspectors to enter our homes against our will.

Among the pretexts for these State-sponsored home invasions are the supposed need to check that unregulated hypnotism is taking place - or if rabbits or dancing bears are present. Various bodies are also empowered to examine pot plants, fridges and hedges.

This dangerous, nosy-parker rubbish results from the simple-minded good intentions of politicians, who pretend to be able to solve all the problems of the world but in the end can only pass new laws for others to implement and suffer. Yet, as it mounts up into a substantial hill of new powers, it ceases to be silly and becomes sinister.

The time has come for a bonfire of such powers - and a resolve by Ministers to think before they regulate.

As one person was so kindly told - these guys have rights and that we would have to physically see them make the trade and be able to testify to that. Otherwise there's nothing they can do.. Thanks to the way the law is written. In fact, they are well aware of that house and two on Milton apparently owned by the same owner.

Great question why isn't the landlord being held responsible. Why is the neighborhood beating their head against the wall. Today another neighbor was told that "the south end simply isn't a priority" Perhaps it is time it became a priority.

There are young children in the neighborhood who should not have to be exposed to this garbage, never mind the very young that show up at this house. Some of them can't be more than 13 and they appear to be runners for their pimp. Get out of the vehicle run to the house run back to the vehicle.

It's pathetic. The laws need to change.!!

Here's todays license plates. I've been lax lately due to other commitments and my work schedule.

165 EXW Blue and Whiete Motor home

923 ESS red 2 door older model Pulsar9656LD Ace Yellow Cab
343 ARV Blue Mini van

They're getting smarter and showing up in the dark where its impossible to get a license plate number. They're also not stopping but instead someone literaly jumps out of the vehicle at the corner and then they circle and jump in just as fast. Makes me wonder if they aren't aware of the license numbers being posted.

Perhaps its time for all of us to put the pressure on Ottawa.....It's bulllshit!

Any other hot spots in this city??? Post guys let's make the world aware of it all and put the pressure on the authorities!

Hilary Swank won her first Oscar for her incredible portrayal of Brandon Teena, a transgender teen who, although born female, lived as a boy in a small Nebraska community.
A point of trivia - Swank earned a pittance of $3,000 for her work on this film, and her income that year was too low for her to qualify for actors' health benefits.

Boys Don't Cry was written and directed by Kimberly Peirce.
Release: (2008 )

Runtime: 152 Minutes, PG-13

Starring: Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Gary Oldman, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman,

This film presented complex issues of justice and human nature though the interaction of a deep cast of characters in a captivating environment. Though it is disguised as a comic book film, do not confuse the Dark Knight with those campy versions you might have grown up with. I would say that the themes of this film if presented in an equally realistic manner by characters not in the batman universe, would cause that film to be noted as one of the best gangster/ crime movies ever made and it would certainly be praised all around. The fact that it is the Joker and Batman might actually hurt the credibility of this piece. I enjoyed every minute of the film, hardly relied two and a half hours had passed, (even at the midnight showing) and will certainly be seeing it again.

The overarching theme presented by the film is the question, "how will people react when pushed beyond their limits." The most brilliant directorial choice was to not give any back story to the Joker. He is presented as an entity on its own that needs no cause or reasoning. We all know Gotham City is in the middle of a battle between the mobsters and the police. With all of the corruption, the good guys need Batman to gain the upper hand. Enter Joker, who has no purpose but to mess with the equation and stir things up. He is an agent of chaos. Pure insanity. He doesn't really care what happens to him or anyone else, as long as there are long lasting consequences. Throughout the film he tests the limits of various police officers, criminals, and citizens along with Harvey Dent and Batman.

Rather than having this movie be about Batman facing a villain, it is the story of an internal conflict that happens to arise from the presence of that villain. That is why I feel it is completely necessary to have the Two-Face character introduced. I've read reviews where people say they wish that was in the third movie, but that is totally missing the point. See there is a balance created between Lt. Gordon, Dent and Batman. They are all fighting for the same thing, but each has to make a different sacrifice in order to succeed. Batman works with fear and at night, but works alone avoiding the corruption of the city. Lt. Gordon works from within the system, but because of limited resources, he must work with Police officers that he knows are corrupt. Harvey Dent tires to work from within and to avoid corruption. This naive idealism makes him many enemies, but seems to be working with the help of the other two. Joker pushes all three to the limit though.

Through elaborate and exciting circumstances, the Joker creates situations where Batman can not work alone, Lt. Gordon can not trust a large team and Dent is pushed to the edge of his limits. Because of this, Gordon has to fake his own death, so the information does not get to any moles, Batman almost turns himself in, to save lives, and Dent is repeatedly pushed up to take justice into his own hands, even to a further point than Batman.

This is why Two-Face is needed. He serves as a foil to the Batman character, who we all know will not kill villains. That is Batman's one rule, and everyone knows it. The Joker wants to make him break it, just to stir things up. If Batman starts killing, the rules are changed, and the police will not longer be able to work with him, the people won't trust him and criminals will fight that much harder because being tied up isn't their greatest fear. When Harvey Dent looses Rachel, he is put in the same situation as Bruce Wane was. He is now alone in a city where corruption rules and he is going to do something about it. Dent chooses the dark path however and takes the lives of criminals. Two-Face is in no way a villain in the Dark Knight, he is an anti-hero at worst. We have all asked why doesn't Batman just kill the bad guy. I think that is why we get to see the Scarecrow at the beginning. To remind us that Batman doesn't kill and because of that, the criminals will always break free and continue to do evil. The presentation of Two-Face in this way is brilliant, they make it completely realistic and even work in the coin. He is able to remove the guilt from himself by flipping the coin.

This is the biggest internal issue Batman faces and this film presents it brilliantly! Will you kill in order to save lives. The fairy scene shows us a man almost willing to kill the criminals to save himself, but that is not an easy thing to do. As we saw, most of the boat voted to do it, but no one could. The Joker further pushes this issue by telling people they must kill the guy on TV or he will blow up a hospital. The issue is one of boundaries and systems of trust. Who is to be the judge when the system is corrupt, is there a time when it can't be trusted, who are you to decide the fate of lives.

Numerous times there are moments when everything is blowing up and the Joker takes away all chances of hope. It is at once as if the Joker is not there, and in fact Bruce Wane's metaphor for the Devil and at the same time Heath Ledger takes over the movie. My favorite plot twist was that the Joker told Batman the opposite addresses of Rachel and Dent so that whoever he wanted to save most died, and he would have to live with that.

There are some things the movie could have done without, but none, I felt were story wise, just details in the action and logistics of fleshing out the story. Bat-sonar, awesome idea, fits in with the character, but it removes the movies from its own sense of reality. The whole mob thing could have been fleshed out more as well, I wasn't really sure what they were doing most of the time or why they didn't react more and become a entity of their own. That really would have added to things because then you have; Batman, the Police, the citizens, Joker, Harvey Dent and the Mob, all with different motives that conflict and intertwine. Complexity of that sort is rare in Hollywood and for it to be in a comic book movie is awesome. Really there was a lot to chew and I will have to see it a couple more times to wrestle with the issues. I will probably post more then.

As you might have noticed, I got away from a straight up review of the acting and how much I liked it, I think that is cover thoroughly by other people everywhere, so I will be moving more into a presentation of key themes and how they tied together. I would love to hear comments on what I thought, what you thought and if those were the biggest issues, or if I missed any details that add to the complexity.

Okay, so this guy finally admits that he “drank some wine” before going to bed and then

Okay, so this guy finally admits that he "drank some wine" before going to bed and then later getting up and having a hit & run accident, followed a few hours later by being involved in ANOTHER accident and killing a mother of three.

But the state troopers at the time did not feel it was necessary to check to see if the driver was DUI.

Interesting that the driver was the stepson of a state trooper involved in the investigation.

The accident occurred 2 years ago. Now, he's finally "come clean" and claims that he drank some red wine, went to bed, got up hours later and dashed off to work in a mad rush. (Okay, sure....I don't know about you but if I drank "some" red wine and slept for a few hours I'd probably be pretty sober by morning, but hey, I guess it depends on what your definition if "some" is.)

Anyway, he claims that his stepfather did NOT try to hide anything and in fact, told him to "be a man" and take responsibility for this. The way it was worded made it seem that the trooper told him this at the time of the accident, but I could be wrong..but if I'm not...

Which begs the question: if the stepfather / trooper told him to "be a man" and "take responsibility" why didn't the trooper step forward and say "Hey, he was drinking..." While three children are without their mother, this poor guy has been "unable to drive" and has needed "counseling." Oh, you poor thing.

On the day of the accident the hospital took blood tests which showed him to have a significant blood alcohol content, even then - HOURS and HOURS after he supposedly drank "some" wine....why was this NEVER investigated THEN?? Didn't someone at the hospital think "Hey, this guy caused an accident that KILLED a woman, shouldn't this blood alcohol level be reported?" Oh yeah, his PRIVACY, his precious, murderous PRIVACY needed to be protected.

This is only coming to light because if a very diligent estate attorney for the victim's family. If it weren't for the attorney, this would have been swept into a pothole, or under the trooper's hat.

Coming from a family of drinkers, and having lost a brother to drinking and driving, this is a very sore spot with me.

DRUNK DRIVING SHOULD BE A CAPITAL OFFENSE. It kills INNOCENT PEOPLE who have families who need them. It should also be a CRIMINAL OFFENSE with STIFF PENALTIES - as in, JAIL TIME, for those who cover it up.

Doctors and nurses are required to report suspected child abuse, they should also be required to report DUI offenses as well.

                  Kia Johnson

Andrea Curry-Demus went to West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh for help with the newborn baby. The baby still had it umbilical cord attached and doctors said that she had not given birth. She finally admitted that was true. She then said that she paid a woman $1,000 for the baby. Then, the body of a woman with her hands bound was found in Andrea's apartment. AND not only that, but Andrea has tried to do this before - she spent time in prison for stabbing a woman and trying to steal her baby girl. This woman was desperate.

Let me first say that I am a harsh film critic, if it's crap I'll tell you. Secondly if you don't like science fiction, action, crime, drama , or even superhero movies (like myself) you still need to see this film if for nothing else but to see Heath Ledger's final superb performance. He is magnificent, and you can tell this is the roll that kept him from sleeping which lead to his accidental overdose and tragic death. If you do love anything from the list above this is of course a must see film. With a movie like this no one really has a good excuse not to see it. If one were to look at this as strictly as a "popcorn" film, you won't be disappointed. However if you were to look at this film from a technical and/ or artistic point of view, you will be in for a wonderful surprise. I thought at first this was going to be a run of the mill summer blockbuster complete with all the hype, but then I remembered how good Batman Begins was especially compared to Batman and Robin and how horrible that thing was. As you watch, the characters expand, more is known about them, their history. But the real magic begins as the story unfolds, this isn't a run of the mill "cookie cutter" superhero movie. One can tell there was thought put into every scene and not one second of your time was wasted with anything non- vital to the story in one way or another. The only thing that really upset me was the fact that Heath Ledger was no longer with us. His role as "The Joker" was excellent. I really liked Jack Nicholson's rendition of the Joker in the 1989 Batman, Ledger's performance however, brings a better and polar opposite view of The Joker to the table. Of course a few of you that read this are going to disagree, and a lot of people are still going to like the Michael Keaton days of Batman better, but as a new era and a new beginning to the franchise, you simply can't beat The Dark Knight. It really is better than Batman Begins and that is a tough act to beat.

"Canadians don't want NAFTA-like rules in interprovincial

Mexico - Call for "exemplary punishment" for police hounding of the media

MONTREAL, July 17 - Reporters Without Borders today
condemned the aggressive posture of some police officers, particularly at the
federal level, after assaults on journalists on the same day both in the
Federal District (Mexico City) and in the state of Sinaloa in the north-west.
Around 30 police officers with the Federal Preventative Police (PPP)
threatened Rafael Leyva Mexia and Luis Vasquez Vega, photographers
respectively on the regional dailies El Diario de Los Mochis and Noroeste in
Los Mochis in Sinaloa state on 15 July, after they took shots of a police
convoy just after it left the scene of a demonstration.
They pointed guns at the journalists whom they accused of being from the
"gutter press" before photographing them while heaping insults on them. Other
journalists who arrived later where also aggressively questioned and had to
take flight.
Leyva Mexia and Vasquez Vega both made complaints to the Sinaloa state
human rights commission. One of the two photographers told Reporters Without
Borders that, in the light of a similar case involving journalists from the
regional daily El Debate in May, they might also take the case before the
federal justice ministry.
In the second case, judicial police travelling in five vehicles
intercepted Jacobo Velasquez Gordillo, journalist on the privately-owned
national channel TV Azteca and technical staff in the capital at 2am on the
same day as they were returning to their studios. They were forced at gunpoint
to produce their identify papers. Police then seized their mobile phones and
their camera battery on the pretext that they had tried to interfere with an
investigation. Police officers rained blows onto Velasquez Gordillo as they
tried to force him into the boot of his car.
The journalists made a complaint for "abuse of authority" at the special
prosecutor's office responsible for civil servants. The Federal District Human
Rights Commission has also made a complaint which it is waiting for the
journalists to sign.
"This abusive behaviour leaves the press even more vulnerable at a time
when it is already exposed to threats from organised crime, particularly in
the states like Sinaloa which are in thrall to the drug cartels", the
worldwide press freedom organization said.
"The safety of Mexican journalists is more under threat than ever and
this situation can only worsen still further if the authorities decide for
reasons of state to close the cases lodged by the victims. There should be
exemplary punishment", the organization added.

Reporters Without Borders
I did this one night for a dear friend in Christ, and their family.

The corruption of the Federal Preventive Police (Policía Federal Preventiva or PFP in Mexico and no Human Rights in Mexico makes it very difficult for any citizen to reside there. According to what I am made aware of you deported two Mexicans to the state and they have pictures and names of CORRUPT PFP People involved in unloading a military vehicle with the PFP person there?!

Time right now TAKE ACTION!. I see your article regarding Human Rights....
http://www.irb-cisr.gc.ca/en/research/ndp/ref/index_e.htm?docid=268&cid=0&sec=CH04

And Amenesty International's statement.......
http://asiapacific.amnesty.org/library/Index/ENGAMR410272006?open&of=ENG-325

I now will enquire of your office and ask do you think it is right to send these people to a state that is corrupt and these people are known by the PFP? Regardless of where they relocate themselves it is quite evident they can be found easily by the PFP. see this........
http://fmso.leavenworth.army.mil/documents/multimission/multimission.htm

The above site states this.... Well if what this says below is it any wonder these people will be seen as expendable? these are our brothers and sisters!

PFP Corruption

The past years have amply demonstrated that endemic corruption plagues every Mexican police establishment. From all outside appearances, the PFP is making a serious effort to ensure that new recruits have the requisite levels of honesty and is rooting out corrupt serving officers. This extraordinarily difficult undertaking is reflected in the current status of internal PFP investigations. Notably, by February 2000 PFP agents in multiple states were being investigated for "crimes related to drug trafficking, illegal alien smuggling and stealing from transport vehicles."43 Of these, the illegal alien smuggling case seemed to be the most extensive, potentially involving a national-level undertaking with participants from the PFP and other police agencies. Reducing corruption clearly contributes to the 15-year time table for the PFP to reach its maximum capability, a more realistic estimate than some previous Mexican anticorruption campaigns that projected short-term results.

Mexico is placing exceptional trust and weight on the performance and effectiveness of the PFP. It is no exaggeration to say that the law enforcement and internal security dimensions of Mexico's future stability are tied to the PFP's ability to perform critically important policing and security missions. At the same time, the PFP must be effective enough to free the military from highly visible public safety duties that erode its public confidence. Amid the challenges posed by a spectrum of criminal and subversive threats to Mexico, the PFP—like the military—will have to struggle successfully against the drug corruption that has crippled other federal, state and local police establishments in Mexico. In addition, the nature of PFP duties raises the specter of human rights violations in areas like Chiapas, Oaxac and Guerrero, an issue that the Mexican Government acknowledges but has yet to fully address.

Just at the wrong place involving a powerful force who could go above officials easily because of the powers they have been given. I ask you please to research this fully.

I ask for your response, as an immigration office why did you send them to their former country?

The police forces, which include federal and state judicial police, the Federal Preventive Police (PFP), municipal police, and various police auxiliary forces, have primary responsibility for law enforcement and maintenance of order within the country. However, the military plays a large role in some law enforcement functions, primarily counternarcotics. Elected civilian officials maintain effective control over the police and the military; however, corruption is widespread within police ranks and also is a problem in the military. The military maintains a strong presence in the state of Chiapas and a lesser, but still significant, deployment in Guerrero. Military personnel and police officers committed serious human rights abuses.

On Saturday evening July 19, i watched CBS news with Forrest Sawyer. He did a piece on Agriprocessors in Postville, Iowa. It had a obvious slant. Yes it is very sad that 700 people lost their jobs. Three hundred ran away and 400 were arrested. It did a short interview with one of the owners who instead of wearing his yamulke he was wearing a baseball cap and a trimmed beard. Now come on CBS these are Lubavitch Orthodox Jews and usually do not wear baseball caps. No where in the piece did it mention that these people are Orthodox Jews producing kosher meat for Jews. They mentioned kosher once. And where did these owners think 700 Guatemalans come from when they came to Postville years ago and bought an almost closed and out of business meat processing company. The citizens of Postville tried to work for these people but they were paid so bably and treated like dirt that all the Iowans left. 700 hispanic people just materialized out of thin air and they did not know. Another example of the liittle guy taking all the blame and two managers being the scape goat for these egregious owners, smart clever lubavitch butchers from Brooklyn.....they are guilty and should pay but will walk away with their millions. And shame on CBS news for putting on a puff piece. A crisis PR person got to the network. At least the newspaper articles have told more of the facts. No wonder TV news is dying.
