So there's this comedian by the name of Mike Birbiglia. And I don't listen to a lot of any stand-up. But I came across his t's; by which he has parlayed his stand-up into t-shirts. I am sure that there are others who do this, but like I said, I wouldn't know because I don't pay attention to stand-up comedians.

There are lots of designs on his site, but I especially like this one:

Nothing quite like takin' 'cracker' back.

Your computer was infected with pop-up pornography because you visited a popular travel Website to look at hotel room prices in Orlando. And you have a well-known Company's Internet Security Suite.

Or maybe, because your ISP promised you they'd scan all your e-mails for you, before they got into your Inbox.. you thought they really did, and you also thought that made your e-mail safe. You clicked on a link in one of those e-mails... (it said it was from your Uncle Victor..) and, voilà! Someone's using your credit card.
In Malaysia.
To buy big-screen TV's.
Like, six of them.. so far.

Perhaps you did neither of those things. But.. your friends wanna know why you're sending them all this junk e-mail, and your ISP is threatening to turn you off if you don't stop sending mass-mailings. Huh?
Turns out, you happen to have CoolProgram 6.0* on your machine, and a cracker has "exploited" the code and turned your machine into a spambot. Your machine has been merrily sending out thousands of e-mail come-ons for generic drugs, male enhancements, and penny stocks... all while you were asleep in bed.

Or you brought home a new digital picture frame...

Does this sound like a bad sci-fi movie to you? It does to me. But, sadly, this is our current reality.

You haven't done anything wrong (or, really stupid) and you've even tried to protect your machine, but you got hijacked anyway.

I, for one, think there's something seriously wrong with this state of affairs. When I think about the state of the Internet, I start feeling like that guy in the movie.. you know the one..

Why is this happening? Many reasons. Some are:
* Software companies are, to this day, releasing programs which contain insecure code.
* Hardware manufactures don't include any extra features-- like hard-wired security.
* In their rush to bring us new and exciting technology (he who's first to market, wins), nobody stops and ponders the consequences.. or the vulnerabilities.
* For a long time, nobody took the hackers seriously enough.
* Cost. (I put this last because this can be offset.)

Believe it or not, there are steps the IT Industry can take to remedy a lot of this, and counteract this unsecured Internet. They could be doing much more to combat spam, malware, and hackers. There's also steps we (us "consumers") can take as well.. which space restriction has run out of room for today, and I will discuss tomorrow.

To be continued...

Today's free link: I have recommended other graphics manipulation/image editing tools in the past, and it is only fitting that I give space to another winner: Paint.NET is simply the closest thing to Photoshop I have seen. 5 Star-rated by C/Net.

* Pick a program, any program. "CP 6.0" is simply my generic example.

Let me tell you about this word.

Ever since I was little, I've heard my mum call me a "Jubor" or rather a "Jubo" which is more accurate to what is sounds like. This word basically means arse/asshole in Malay, but to my mother it's like an all encompassing term of endearment, irritation and sometimes, an exclamation.

I've come to love this word a lot and I realise I must now spread the love, much like how I have made known the magic of my mum's Keropok Dance.

Now you ask, what is this Keropok Dance, with your perked up... eyelids... and stuff. Then I shall tell you. A Keropok Dance is a deceptively simple dance that emulates the expanding of Malay fish crackers when they are being fried. So the person must have the mindset of a keropok and expand as the keropok expands. The dance is deceptively simple because it looks so easy to do, but really, trying to get into the mindset will make most people sweat.

I then invented the Anti-Keropok Dance which shows the entire thing backwards. Do try it sometime, it really is better than yoga.

While it isn't the newest article (though it is pretty new), Dan Parker and Ryan Wegner have put an awesome piece together titled, "Integrating More Ingelligence into your IDS." This 2 part article provides a lot of insight as to what can be done to fine tune an IDS.

The more an intrusion detection system (IDS) knows about the network it is trying to protect, the better it will be able to protect the network. This is the fundamental principle behind target-based intrusion detection, where an IDS knows about the hosts on the network.

And that is exactly what is discussed. Why post this? I feel that it is an excellent resource which can help beginners understand how an IDS does what it does and gives some tips for people that might be pros.

Be sure to check it out in its entirety. Part 1 Part 2.

Sekarang kita balik lagi tentang blogger positif.

nah pakar IT beneran aja ngajakin bersatu.. knapa kita mesti terpengaruh dengan ajakan "pakar".

menurut hemat saya (ajie... tinggi banget bahasanya..) ada baiknya kita bersatu demi kemajuan teknologi di negara ini. mari kita kesampingakan si negatip dan si positip. yang perlu kita ingat kita ini Rakyat Indonesia. siapun anda.. blogger, hacker, craCker, phareaker, carder kita semua satu bangsa satu tanah air. jangan coba untuk bergerak secara kelompok. pejoeang kita dolo berhasil karna bersatu, mereka gagal ketika berjuang secara kelompok² dan mengatasnamakan daerah masing². ketika mereka bersatu kita MERDEKA..!!

siapapun anda atasnamakan lah diri anda sebagai bangsa Indonesia. mari kita perangi segala bentuk pembodohan bangsa...!!

MERDEKA..!! MERDEKA..!! MERDEKA..!! MERDEKA..!!

Anybody who’s reading my blog at this point knows that I’m maybe unhealthily fond of Luk

Anybody who's reading my blog at this point knows that I'm maybe unhealthily fond of Luke Doucet, the frontman of this band, and his music, and I'm not really going to make any stabs at denying that. But even if I had no idea who the man was, I'm pretty sure I'd still love Veal. The thing about them, though, is that everyone keeps trying to categorize them. I guess it's human nature but even the bio on their myspace is littered with comparisons to Indie Music Heroes and futile attempts at genre description to the point of absolute ridiculity. I'm not sure if that's a real word but let's roll with it. I mean, look at that thing. The phrase "Surf-noir-motorcycle-hillbilly rock" is used seemingly without irony. Tom Waits, Lou Reed, Elvis Costello, Jeff Buckley, Rufus Wainwright, David Lowery of Cracker, the Who, and Fugazi are all referenced in the span of a few paragraphs. Last but certainly not least is the mention of the Cramps/Dick Dale/Iggy Pop orgy. Flattering as all those comparisons are it seems to me to actually do them an injustice, because in the end, they're just Veal: unique, utterly bizarre, and really good.

Take their first album, Hot Loser, released in '97 in, as far as I can tell, a haze of pot smoke. (Luke had long hair, see right. I don't know if I like it on him but I do think that, much like his recent beard, regardless of aesthetics it was pretty impressive. Dude has surprising hair-growing abilities and that's a beautiful head of hair.) The man himself has admitted, both then and now, that the lyrics at this point were pretty much "free-association bullshit". They're kind of my favorite part of the record, if only because they make me giggle so hard sometimes. But, the thing is, regardless of that, the album is still just fun to listen to. The lyrics are weird and the songwriting is unconventional, but it feels really, really good on the ears. The production (y'all just sit tight for the Six Degrees section.) is the kind that kinda swallows up your head. And, amidst the unusual musical structure, there are some fantastic songs. I fully believe that "Mexico Texaco", "Cauchemar" and especially "Down Again" could be singles now - the latter may be the best on the album. The only song that doesn't really agree with me is "In Bed With The Pope", the sound of which makes me cringe a little, but even that's growing on me.

Something similar can be said for their next release, Tilt O'Whirl (2000). While the music is hit-and-miss in some places on this record, when it's good, it's really good. Take for example "Spiderman" and "Buttercloud" - though, if I'm being honest, it might have taken a listen to the more stripped-down versions of them from Luke's live record Outlaws (Live and Unreleased) to realize exactly how good they were. Even still, there's a lot of gems on Tilt O'Whirl, like the short-but-sweet "Underground", my personal favorite "Skid", and the bitter, sleepy ballad, "Centre of the Universe."

And last but not least - their greatest, in fact, there's Embattled Hearts. Luke had really honed his songwriting skills by then, and every song is memorable and catchy. And the lyrics are at their best, too. "Everybody Wants More Cocaine" (which, sorry Rivers, owns Weezer's "We Are All On Drugs" a hundred times over, though that might not be saying a whole lot.), "Miss Brazil" and the parts of "Fader Creep" I can make out are social commentaries that I actually don't mind for once, and "Radio" a lament for the state of popular music with some pretty nice movement to boot. Neville Quinlan declares "Toothbrush" one of the sexiest songs ever written by a Canadian. And everything else is so tongue-and-cheek and laced with delicious irony. It's a good record, a consistently good record, with strong performances all around, and it got no response. It totally bombed. That was back in 2003, and they haven't put anything new out since. Luke Doucet insists that the band's days are not over. No one else seems to believe him, but I do, and I'm hoping like hell that, now that his latest record Blood's Too Rich is out, a new Veal album is the next thing he releases.

Highlights:
- "Down Again", from Hot Loser. Listen to the melody, and especially the nuance in his voice.
- "Skid", from Tilt O'Whirl, just makes me happy. The music, the tongue-in-cheek lyrics, the keytar, the 'ooh-la-la-la's in the chorus, and that solo.
- "Miss Brazil", from Embattled Hearts, has a crazy catchy chorus, lyrics with a point, Luke singing in the upper registers, and the phrase "to satisfy viagrified erections". I don't care who you are, that's just good stuff.

Six Degrees/Pointless Trivia Section: Alright, brace yourselves.
- Veal can't keep a bassist for beans, and they've had a revolving cast of bass players over the years. They seem to have finally clicked with their seventh, Nik Kozub, member of about a zillion different bands including up-and-coming, ridiculously fun "we just make dance music" band Shout Out Out Out Out, producer of another zillion records in Edmonton, avid sweatband wearer, and head of Nrmls Wlcm Rcrds.
- Veal's drummer is known only as Chang. I don't know about any of the other projects he may have been involved in, but I feel he deserves his own special mention, because he's a tight drummer, and he's hella mysterious and charismatic to boot. If this were fandomsecrets and I had less dignity, I would be slapping the words "I'd hit that." on his picture.
- One of Luke Doucet's first major gigs was as a hired guitarist for Sarah McLachlan's Fumbling Towards Ecstacy tour. Sarah's band is all over Hot Loser. For one, her keyboard player and one-time boyfriend (oh yes, I went there) David Kershaw produced and played additional instruments on it. Another of Sarah's guitar players, Sean Ashby, is frontman of a band called Jack Tripper which is thanked in the liner notes along with Ms. McLachlan's drummer and husband, Ashwin Sood. Finally, her longtime bassist Brian Minato plays guitars and Yamaha Portimento on the record. Brian would actually later do a stint in Veal as one of their many bassists, and he also was part of Jack Tripper for a time, as well as co-producer on their album 9 Easy Pieces. Oh, yeah, and he played bass for Luke for a bit too. Dude gets around.
- I don't know much about Barry Mirochnick, but the guy's everywhere. He wrote or co-wrote five of the songs on Hot Loser, did lead vocals on two of them, played bass and background vocals on everything, and did some other instrumental things. He's played on every record Canada's ever produced (including Jack Tripper's 9 Easy Pieces). I am not even kidding. He was also a member of Acoustically Inclined (as was Luke Doucet), and has played for Christine Fellows, Martin Tielli of the Rheostatics, Veda Hille, and Neko Case.
- They're not directly related, but when I got my copy of Hot Loser - with four incomplete layers of shrink wrap, two copies of the liner booklet and a certificate from Divine Industries for three "divine dollars" - and I looked the company up to see wtf was going on, I found on their website The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets, who make music about HP Lovecraft and his literature. And that deserves some kind of mention.
- Tilt O'Whirl was produced by Rheostatics drummer and producer Michael Phillip Wojewoda, who produced the Barenaked Ladies' Gordon, and albums by Ashley MacIsaac, Spirit of the West and a ton of other people. He was also married to singer/songwriter Mia Sheard, who covered Veal's "Mexico Texaco" on her album Reptilian, bringing us full circle! Hell yeah!

Get Veal's music here, at Six Shooter Records, or here, at MapleMusic.

He is becoming quite tame, and runs over to me whenever I walk by him, to see if I have any treats. I have kept my pockets full of raisins just for him - although I eat plenty myself.
I also gave him a cracker with peanut butter on it. He enjoyed it - too much, in fact. He licked off all the peanut butter, and proceeded to gag for about thirty seconds.
I was just bracing myself to perform small-critter choking relief (and to receive the inevitable bites associated with picking up a semi-wild chipmunk) when he spit a bit out and ran off. Little pig...

I took a picture of him coming out from under the woodshed. He is in the hollow space of a palate, preparing to come down for a raisin.

I had some good fun this afternoon with the little critters that browse around my house. Right now, there are a mating pair of Red Squirrels (Tamiasciurus hudsonicus) and a solitary Chipmunk (Tamias striatus) who provide plenty of entertainment.

The little chipmunk actually consented to eating a bit of cracker with peanut butter from my hand - he was surprisingly tame. Selfish as well. It was very amusing, watching him attempting to stuff a long, thin piece of cracker into his cheeks. He eventually ran off holding it half in his mouth with one paw.
He also ate some raisins, which I flicked at him from a short distance. Upon hearing them bouncing around in the duff on the ground, he would scurry over and search around until he found the little morsel. It was very entertaining, not only for me but for the little rodent as well.
I hope to obtain a repeat performance soon, and capture some video footage.

The reason why I couldn’t post pictures yesterday was that I had used up my free space on Word

The reason why I couldn't post pictures yesterday was that I had used up my free space on Word Press; I had to pay for more space. Now I can proceed.

You may remember that Toni painted some silk handkerchiefs for me. I wanted to make something for her in return. When Allie sent me this postcard, I knew I wanted to use it for Toni, who is a Buddhist.

After changing the color and size of the Buddha image in Photo Shop Elements, I printed it and put it along with the red handkerchief and some threads and other materials on my bulletin board so that I could think about how to use them.

The labyrinth came to mind. Clearly, I wasn't finished with that motif yet. I cropped it and tried placing the Buddha on it in various positions in thumbnails I could experiment with. I only got to the second one when I knew that was the way I wanted to stitch it--a Buddha as the entrance to the labyrinth, the way into one's inner self. Appropriate, yes?

In the computer I resized the design to 4 X 6 inches and printed it to transfer to the fabric. But first I had to prepare the frame. Here's muslin stretched over a frame as foundation. Using my printed image as a pattern, I cut out Pellon fleece as padding and basted it to the back of the muslin so that the white padding wouldn't show through the silk.

Next I attached the silk to the muslin and stitched around the padding so that I could see the design on the silk. I think you can see the white stitches. Because I made some unnecessary steps, such as using my light box to trace the labyrinth on the silk, it took three hours just to get this far. I used to feel that preparing a frame for stitching was a nuisance, but now I enjoy the prep work almost as much as the stitching.

After six days, I'd gotten this far. I had printed the resized and color-changed Buddha on to silk, which I fused to the painted silk with Misty Fuse and outlined with gold crinkle, a metal thread. The image is reversed but you get the idea. In addition to the threads I had chosen, I used a button from Maureen and beads, including some Sculpey beads I had made. The pink and mauve thread is silk floss I had dyed. Most of the tiny glass beads came from Veronique in France. She sent them in the Christmas cracker she made for me.

When I had finished the stitching, I mounted the work over padded card.

For a frame, I covered padded foam core with raw silk noil to which I had fused and stitched a label on the back and I glued the embroidered piece to the front. Here's the back. The stitching is detached twisted chain stitch in Eterna silk #5. The loops are cake wire covered with buttonhole stitch.

And here's the finished piece. If you click on the image, you can see it enlarged at Flickr.

Cracker is my grandmother. I went and visited her Thursday where we talked and laughed at how mean Judge Judy was. That stuff is harsh. Supposedly people go on the show because they get paid and the show also pays for the final ruling or something. I don't think I could handle the embarrassment though. We went to El Fenix for dinner where Cracker yelled at the lady who was seating us and started to order before the waiter could even greet us. Oh man it was so funny. Cracker is the funniest old person I know. When we were paying for the meal at the counter, the lady that was assisting us answered the phone and was giving the people some of their meal options. While Cracker was signing the credit slip, she thought the lady was talking to her and started answering the questions that the lady was asking the people on the phone. This went on for minutes until Cracker finally realized what was going on. I can't wait until I get old. It's going to be a blast.

19:27 Pak Nuh (Menkominfo) masuk ruangan, didampingi pak Cahyana (Dirjen Aptel), pak Edmon (Staf Ahli), pak Son (Sekretaris), pak Suhono (Staf Ahli) dan pak Basuki (Dirjen Postel)

Bahkan situs Multiply, blogspot, dsb ikut jadi korban.

* Izoel Servo: Masalah teknik bagaimana memblok content You Tube, pakai model flagging.

Yaitu: UN Commision for Tradelaw dan Convension on Cybercrime (pasal perbuatan yang dilarang)

* Prika Wibisono: Pak Mentri sangat terbuka.

* Tri Wibowo: Mahasiswa UIN, blog pemula.

1. Pak Nuh menganggap bahwa komunitas blogger adalah positif dalam melakukan fungsi edukatif dan empowerment, jadi blogger adalah a part of our (depkominfo) family.
Life In Mono

Kalau saya tahu jawabannya!

Apa maksud anda mengacak-ngacak situs depkominfo?

Gimana coba?
Tapi target berikutnya?? hehehe... Okezone.com mungkin! Ho..ho..ho!!!

Hehehe... Mungkin adminnya khilaf kali, mba. Manusia kan tidak luput dari kesalahan. Server saya sendiri masih banyak kelemahannya, kok. Intinya tidak ada sistem yang dijamin aman. Setiap sistem pasti punya kelemahan.

Situs perbankan lumayan banyak kelemahannya.

Sejarah Hacker

Hacker muncul pada awal tahun 1960-an diantara para anggota organisasi mahasiswa Tech Model Railroad Club di Laboratorium Kecerdasan Artifisial Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

2. Semi Elite

Ciri-ciri : lebih muda dari golongan elite, mempunyai kemampuan & pengetahuan luas tentang komputer, mengerti tentang sistem operasi (termasuk lubangnya), kemampuan programnya cukup untuk mengubah program eksploit.

3. Developed Kiddie

Ciri-ciri : umurnya masih muda (ABG) & masih sekolah, mereka membaca tentang metoda hacking & caranya di berbagai kesempatan, mencoba berbagai sistem sampai akhirnya berhasil & memproklamirkan kemenangan ke lainnya, umumnya masih menggunakan Grafik User Interface (GUI) & baru belajar basic dari UNIX tanpa mampu menemukan lubang kelemahan baru di sistem operasi.

4. Script Kiddie

5. Lamer

a. Hacker

Dua Jenis Kegiatan Hacking

Contoh Kasus Hacker

Blogger bukan HACKER ... Hidup Blogger Indonesia
