Miss Beatrice, the church organist, was in her eighties. She was admired for her sweetness and kindness to all. One afternoon the pastor came to call on her and she showed him into her quaint sitting room. She invited him to have a seat while she prepared tea.

As he sat facing her old Hammond organ, the young minister noticed a cut-glass bowl sitting on top of it. The bowl was filled with water, and in the water floated, of all things, a condom! When she returned with tea and scones, they began to chat.

The pastor tried to stifle his curiosity about the bowl of water and its strange floater, but soon it got the better of him and He could no longer resist. "Miss Beatrice", he said, "I wonder if you would tell me about this?" pointing to the bowl.

"Oh, yes," she replied, "Isn't it wonderful? I was walking through the Park a few months ago and I found this little package on the ground. The directions said to place it on the organ, keep it wet and that it would prevent the spread of disease. Do you know I haven't had the flu all winter?"

About 200 ads for Okamoto condoms were removed from carriages in Seoul on Tuesday, only five days after being posted, said Seoul Metro.

The ads didn't actually show any condoms -- heaven forbid! -- but did include the phrase "No. 1 in Japan."

Pro-life activists headed by the Catholic Church thumbs down a proposed bill regarding population management which will slacken the growing populations of the Philippines. Congressmen endorsed Reproductive Health Care Bill at the lower House of Representatives in the belief that their pet Bill will address the issue of HIV/AIDS, unwanted pregnancy, illiteracy, malnutrition, unemployment and poverty.

The Bill, according to the proponents who were called anti-life by some Catholic Bishops, guaranteed that it will not encourage abortion but will support artificial methods to attain population management without breaking responsible parenting and reproductive health of individuals engage in a relationship.

The Philippines has the highest birth rate in Asia and the country’s over population breeds poverty. The country has no population policy because majority of the politicians are afraid of the Catholic Church. To displease the church is a political suicide and so their hands tied and lips sealed when it comes to population management issue.

The Bishops have warned those who endorsed the Bill and promised not to give pols Holy Communion and thrashing in elections. But the congressmen who sponsor the Bill were steadfast in their resolve to pass the Reproductive Health Care Bill.

The pols questioned the intentions of the Bishops and throw the debate on why the church is not doing enough to help the growing problem of abandoned and unwanted children, street urchins and the illiterate and malnourished sons and daughters of urban and rural poor. And yet the Catholic Church is against population management where it could lessen social maladies and uplift the lives of millions of poor Filipinos trapped in poverty and absolute neglect.

Lately the gong of contraceptives is ringing again. Some say its our choice to use. The Church say

Lately the gong of contraceptives is ringing again. Some say its our choice to use. The Church says don't you dare.

Well, if I may, take my stand on this, I say, don't you dare.

For narrow focus, it's a matter of personal choice. But lets see it differently. Big picture view this time. Then its a matter of national concern.

For the unmarried, usage of contraceptives brings out a feeling of immunity for the consequence of doing something wrong in the first place. It alters proper thinking of the minds of young adults. Especially with the provocative advertisement we see on tv and billboards. Its basically suggestive to doing it without thinking of the outcome. It promotes a society with disregard for the rights of women. A condom is a bandage solution to a problem.

And why do we want to control our population anyway? Is it because we are afraid that we will become a nation of gaping mouth with nothing to eat? Damn! People are gold! The trick is make them all productive!
Give them jobs! Make them till the land and harvest the seas! Arestohin ang tambay and force them to farm! That one tambay will be able to feed 3 people at the least if he farms. Imagine all the able Filipinos working. Imagine a nation full of productive people. Why would you cut your hands?!! The more the hands the more the output! The better the economy! The stronger the Philippine nation!

So what does the government need to do to harness the potential of its people? Give more focus on education. Create more productive state owned economic institutions. Say, government managed farm cooperatives. Revise the penal law. Make the inmates more productive. You do the rest of the thinking... Point made....

MABUHAY ANG PILIPINAS!!!!!

Here's a couple of rather unusual news headlines from my RSS Reader. I've tried a number of different RSS readers & found this NewsGator/FeedDemon one to be the best so far, at least in my opinion. It even sync's with an online NewsGator account that the setup wizard helps you establish so you can access your feeds if you're away from home. If you're looking for a good RSS Reader maybe give it a try. For a free download Click Here
