Comme des Garçons and Brooks Brothers are collaborating on some items for Fall/Winter 2008. I love it when two very well respected labels with completely different cultural backgrounds come together and produce something beautiful and classic. My favorite piece from this collaboration is this blazer:

[caption id="attachment_32" align="alignnone" width="450" caption="source: highsnobiety.com"][/caption]

It's a Friday and that means no one's in the mood to work. For some reason, I always get that image in my head of that worker bee constantly looking outside, counting down the minutes, so he can go play. Every week I try desperately to fight that feeling of lethargy that inflicts everyone, convincing us that it's already the weekend. I actually feel that way everyday of the week but on Fridays, it's the strongest.

This is something I happened upon as I was doing my daily surfing. It's the product of the Louis Vuitton x Comme des Garcons collaboration. The extra handles are unnecessary and excessive, in a non-luxurious way. Luxurious excessiveness would come in the form of a silk robe, or a smoker's jacket, or something you don't need but you can still use and simultaneously experience a sense of high (snobby) society when using it. I think the bag with the monogram already does that much. But there are enough handles to confuse which one to use. You could argue that it gives you more options when holding the bag, but forreal? How many handles does a normal car door have? Or a door itself? Or bags themselves? Usually, it's one, a result of time-test, tried and true, function. Also, the handles are positioned so that you can't carry it on your shoulder. Very sloppy right thurr.

For right now, it looks like they gave an artist some creative license to have his merry way with the bag. Oh well, consider it an extra thousand you don't have to spend.

I took a vacation day today to make a skirt from this wonderful cotton. The chocolate and red stripes are woven into the fabric. The red dots are printed. I love it when conventional modes of introducing patterns into textiles are merged, or better yet, turned on their head. When I was in the Comme des Garçons shop on West 25th Street last week, the sales associate pointed me toward a darling pleaded shirt. The skirt was a polyester print based on a cotton or wool Guatemalan weaving pattern. When I pointed that out he told me that I was the first customizer to notice that. Don't you think that there should be a prize for that?

As for my skirt of red, white and chocolate, it looks like I will only have time to cut out the first piece; I just made the stupid mistake of checking my work email. I have just enough time to extinguish a small fire and get to my 2:30 hair appointment on time.

At about 5:00 PM I will step out onto Park Avenue with the amazing Jolanta's interpretation of the Princess Diana c. 1997. It looks fab on me, and, because I have dark hair, dose not register as a Dianado.

Left to right, Givenchy and Junya Watanabe; (AP).

Travel-friendly active-wear has been everywhere in Paris. Veronique Branquinho's road trip collection featured sweaters that could be packed into their own pocket; Kris Van Assche showed cool, multi-colored fanny-packs and swimsuits that folded upon themselves and could be toted around the neck; Junya Watanabe's voyagers carried old-school trunks and wore easy-to-pack, two-in one reversible blazers (the navy-gingham combos looked especially cool), as well as Eisenhower-inspired sports jackets made in collaboration with the British label Barracuta.

There's a new show to look forward to on the men's circuit. Riccardo Tisci, who has reinvigorated Givenchy's women's wear in the past few seasons, made his men's debut with a strong — if not particularly summery — collection that played with the masculine-feminine stereotypes that have been so prevalent this season. Tisci also went for totally monochromatic, head-to-toe looks (another important trend), mixing dark, tough leathers with see-through lace shirts and ombré tops. "I wanted a tougher, Latino-inspired look, but mixed up with the romance of what I do in women's wear," he said. Comme des Garçons' Rei Kawakubo also challenged gender stereotypes, layering billowy shorts, aprons and even ruffled skirts over tight jeans. It may not be exactly a runway-to-reality proposition, but it's this kind of statement that keeps people on their toes.

This is what I'm talking about, the top of the line French luxury brand and super fresh Japanese brand coming together as one this September.
Kawakubo described her designs as ‘party’ bags, promising multi-handles or two handles morphing into one. All will use the Monogram toile, with the LV initials, and the offerings will hark back to the styles of 30 years when Vuitton made only bags and leather goods.

In an extraordinary collaboration, Louis Vuitton, the ultimate French luxury brand, and Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons, the ultimate fashion rebel, will open a joint Tokyo store in September — an ephemeral three-month space where six one-off bags, designed by Kawakubo in LV monogram pattern, can be ordered by shoppers.

Yves Carcelle, chairman and CEO of Louis Vuitton, sitting front row at Kawakubos’ show on Friday, said that he was approached by Comme and considers the project a fine way to celebrate 30 years since Vuitton first opened in Tokyo.

Backstage, Kawakubo said that memory of her excitement at the arrival of Parisian luxury in Japan in 1978, resulted in this unlikely idea of the new design duo creating the store within the Comme des Garçons shop off Omotesando.

For Comme acolytes, this move will be considered either as sleeping with the enemy — or a brilliant and imaginative partnership.

Kawakubo has re-designed the entire Comme des Garçons store on Kottodori, Omotesando for the Vuitton project. Carcelle says that LV is investing in the store, and that any financial profits will be divided.

Although there have been many recent collaborations between ‘high’ and ‘low’ fashion, starting with Karl Lagerfeld’s mini collection for fast fashion store H & M, this meld is different, since it involves a beacon of individuality with a company at the heart of corporate luxury management, as part of the LVMH (Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton) group.

Carcelle said that Marc Jacobs, artistic director of Louis Vuitton, admired Comme des Garçons and was an enthusiastic supporter of the idea of a joint venture.

“It is impossible to overstate Rei Kawakubo’s influence on modern fashion,” Jacobs said in a prepared statement, ‘I find it wonderful to think that 30 years ago, this immense talent, someone who has inspired so many others, was inspired by Louis Vuitton.”

Yves Carcelle, chairman and CEO of Louis Vuitton, sitting front row at Kawakubos' show on Friday, said that he was approached by Comme and considers the project a fine way to celebrate 30 years since Vuitton first opened in Tokyo.

Although there have been many recent collaborations between 'high' and 'low' fashion, starting with Karl Lagerfeld's mini collection for fast fashion store H & M, this meld is different, since it involves a beacon of individuality with a company at the heart of corporate luxury management, as part of the LVMH (Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton) group.

Carcelle said that Marc Jacobs, artistic director of Louis Vuitton, admired Comme des Garçons and was an enthusiastic supporter of the idea of a joint venture.

"It is impossible to overstate Rei Kawakubo's influence on modern fashion," Jacobs said in a prepared statement, 'I find it wonderful to think that 30 years ago, this immense talent, someone who has inspired so many others, was inspired by Louis Vuitton.''

Kawakubo described her designs as 'party' bags, promising multi-handles or two handles morphing into one. All will use the Monogram toile, with the LV initials, and the offerings will hark back to the styles of 30 years when Vuitton made only bags and leather goods.

Thanks to Nitrolicious we can show you now the entire collection.

Check out the rest of the collection and story after the jump.

"Per the press release: On September 4, 2008, Louis Vuitton opens an impermanent store inside Comme des Garçons in Tokyo. The idea for the project emerged from the memories of Comme des Garçons founder Rei Kawakubo. In 1978, as a young designer, she saw the first Louis Vuitton store to open in Japan and was fascinated by the image of French craftsmanship and art de vivre it projected – a luxury that seemed to her, at the time, unattainable. Three decades on, Rei Kawakubo wanted to revisit her impressions, and so the association between Comme des Garçons and Louis Vuitton was born.

Intriguingly, Louis Vuitton is celebrating this year its 30th anniversary in Japan. Rei Kawakubo has dedicated and re-designed the entire Comme des Garcons store on Kottodori, Omotesando especially for Louis Vuitton for the duration of the project, from 4th September through mid-December, into a space that will be a celebration of the Louis Vuitton Monogram. The fruit of this unprecedented collaboration – an exclusive collection of six one-off bags – will be presented in a minimalist space, at the centre of which will be a display of historic Louis Vuitton trunks. Inspired by her memories, Rei Kawakubo chose the legendary Monogram canvas to create two Party bags, small evening purses with outsized natural leather handles. The designer also customized two classic Louis Vuitton bags, endowing the Papillon with kawaii (cute) animal charms and the Mini HL with multiple slender handles. Lastly, Louis Vuitton is reediting two iconic designs from the 1970s – the Petit Marceau and the Sac 2 Poches – which Rei Kawakubo is likely to have seen in the windows of that first Louis Vuitton store.

The bags will only be available upon order, which is only to be placed at the “Louis Vuitton at Comme des Garçons store”. No telephone or Internet orders will be taken. In return, customers will receive a certificate inside a special card holder in Louis Vuitton’s traditional natural leather, embossed with the Louis Vuitton at Comme des Garçons signature. Only several months later will their bag be delivered to their chosen Louis Vuitton store. Other iconic Louis Vuitton Monogram bags, such as the Speedy and Alma chosen by Rei Kawakubo, will also be on display and available for immediate sale inside this special “Louis Vuitton at Comme des Garçons” store."

Luois Vuitton is celebrating their 3oth anniversary in Japan. There had been news earlier this month of Rei Kawakubo of Comme Des Garcons collaborating with Louis Vuitton. She will be redesigning her Comme Des Garcons store in Kottodori, Omotesando for this occasion. Thanks to Nitrolicious you can now see the upcoming collection.

ello-Hello and welcome to another wild week here at The Prepatorium.

It has been so frenzied we were forced to call in The Princess Consort, disturbing his plans for the 'weekend.' And didn't he do a marvelous job on Preppy Khaki, not to mention his find of the "Kill a Prep" shirt for sale!

Regular readers know The Princess is not a fan of the majority of Louis Vuitton's offerings; something to do with a bad case of LogoPhobia that seems to ramp up when she's in close contact with some of their goods. That doesn't mean you shouldn't see all of the new things we do, allowing you to make your own informed purchasing decisions. For example the Murakami Monogramouflage Speedy 35 Bag Limited Edition. (Actually the first bag does not qualify as a 'new,' topic; P is a little slow on the trigger!)

Most of you won't be surprised to read it is not a handbag you will see draped over our wrist. (Or clutched in our hands either.) The fact it is the "Latest Creative Genius of Takashi Murakami and Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton" was not something we were aware of, but if one managed to take their AntiLogoPhobiac Attack meds, and overlook the mottled logos amid the mottled camouflage theme and simply look at its lines, they are classic. BTW, TP thought the Monogramouflage denim line was set to disappear the 13th, as in yesterday, but we still see it online, so if it's something you desire, we recommend moving rather rapidly to make the acquisition.

This brings us to the very unusual maneuvering by these same good folks regarding their celebration honoring the 30th Anniversary of Louis Vuitton’s presence in Japan. To mark that occasion the company is opening a 'pop-up', or temporary store in Tokyo from September 4th through December of this year.

That's not what is unusual, it seems everyone is adding the "Limited Edition Store" (our term) model to their marketing portfolio in addition to the proliferation of Limited Edition apparel, shoes, jewelry, accessories, vehicles, you-name-its, etc. What is interesting, at least here at PreppyPrincess intergalactic HQ, is the Collection of six bags can only be purchased at the special temporary store in Tokyo. One is shown above. We share two more just below, described as "party bags with oversized leather handles."

We think that ranks fairly high on the 'limited buying options' meter. No internet orders, no orders by telephone, that's it. You buy the bag at the pop-up store located inside Comme des Garçons, in Tokyo.

In return, customers will receive a certificate inside a special card holder in Louis Vuitton's traditional natural leather, embossed with the Louis Vuitton at Comme des Garçons signature. Only several months later will their bag be delivered to their chosen Louis Vuitton store.

That's from the snooze news release. So it would seem these are limited indeed, if not in number (which we're quite sure they are), but in point of purchase locations.

So you can buy posters of Japanese girls carrying LV bags.

Or you can buy a book, Louis Vuitton Japan: The Building Of Luxury for a very small investment.

But you can't buy these:

Or this.

Unless you (or one of the household or office staff) physically buy it in Tokyo. So if you need to make travel arrangements, a reminder on the dates for the temp-o-store: September 4th through December. Should you find the opportunities for purchasing the bags not to your liking, the best The Princess can suggest is contacting Louis Vuitton Grand-Pooh-Bah Marc Jacobs.

For an extraordinary behind-the-scenes look at LV in France, Bag Snob is the place to be.
Something that you *can* do and fairly easily: toddle on over to NBC's site if you are a fan of the television show Heroes, because you don't have to wait until Fall for new episodes of the megahit.
On the latest issue of WWD Japan, the cover reveals some products coming from the collaboration between Louis Vuitton and Comme des Garcons. It shows classic Louis Vuitton monogram bags in different sizes and shapes all with little twists such as multiple handles. In the center of the page, there is a black silhouette sitting amongst all the bags which we guess to be Rei Kawakubo, founder of Comme des Garcons. Stay tuned for more info later.

And another sick collaboration!!!

Fans of French luxury brand Louis Vuitton and fashion rebel Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons can expect an extraordinary collaboration coming up. The two will open a joint Tokyo store in September that will last for a period of three months.

According to Yves Carcelle, chairman and CEO of Louis Vuitton, the project will be a fine way to celebrate 30 years since the French brand first opened in Tokyo. Carcelle also added that Marc Jacobs, artistic director of Louis Vuitton, admired Comme des Garçons and was an enthusiastic supporter of the idea of a joint venture.

Two outstanding brands that we report about on a regular have decided to join forces later this year - Comme des Garcons and Louis Vuitton. After the announcement of the Comme des Garcons x H&M partnership, this is the second unexpected partnership by the Japanese brand this year.

"In an extraordinary collaboration, Louis Vuitton, the ultimate French luxury brand, and Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons, the ultimate fashion rebel, will open a joint Tokyo store in September — an ephemeral three-month space where six one-off bags, designed by Kawakubo in LV monogram pattern, can be ordered by shoppers.

Yves Carcelle, chairman and CEO of Louis Vuitton, sitting front row at Kawakubos’ show on Friday, said that he was approached by Comme and considers the project a fine way to celebrate 30 years since Vuitton first opened in Tokyo.

Kawakubo described her designs as ‘party’ bags, promising multi-handles or two handles morphing into one. All will use the Monogram toile, with the LV initials, and the offerings will hark back to the styles of 30 years when Vuitton made only bags and leather goods." Yves Carcelle, chairman and chief executive of Louis Vuitton, sitting front row at Kawakubo's show on Friday, said that he was approached by Comme and considers the project a fine way to celebrate 30 years since Vuitton first opened in Tokyo.

Carcelle said that Marc Jacobs, artistic director of Louis Vuitton, admired Comme des Garcons and was an enthusiastic supporter of the idea of a joint venture. "It is impossible to overstate Rei Kawakubo's influence on modern fashion," Jacobs said in a prepared statement. "I find it wonderful to think that 30 years ago, this immense talent, someone who has inspired so many others, was inspired by Louis Vuitton." Kawakubo described her designs as "party" bags, promising multi-handles or two handles morphing into one. All will use the monogram toile, with the LV initials, and the offerings will hark back to the styles of 30 years when Vuitton made only bags and leather goods.

For Comme acolytes, the move will be considered either as sleeping with the enemy or as a brilliant and imaginative partnership. It could also be a riposte to Yohji Yamamoto's bag collaboration with Hermès last season. There was a touch of the spirit of that other Japanese fashion hero in Comme's men-in-skirts - crisp white cotton worn over narrow pants and under tailored jackets or shorter tunic dresses.

Meanwhile, Kawakubo disclosed that she's designed a red, pie-shaped shop concept that will house her Comme des Garçons for H&M collection in its entirety in 20 select locations, with smaller versions in a great number of doors come early November. She's also tapped photographer Peter Lindbergh for the campaign that will feature Missy Rayder, among others.
