Designer Yang Li is currently studying menswear at the prestigious Central St Martins College of Art and Design in London, but apparently has an eye for the feminine side of things too. My fear of the knot on the left is somewhat allayed by the hope that there's a sneaky fastening behind it to avoid uncomfortable and unsightly tourniquet incidents.

Best of all, Yang proves that Lycra is more fashionable than a trip to the gym might suggest (exhibit A, on the right), and jersey isn't just for cows (exhibit B, on the left). Fabric is a wonderful thing when taken into the right hands.

P.S. I first heard about Cloth on the Modamuse blog. Read it and be delighted at what Australian and NZ designers/artisans/crafters are doing.

Children grow out of their clothing before we can get it home and hang it in the closet it seems. O.K., maybe that's an exaggeration, but not by much! It's just as likely that the item you bought today will not be worn next month due to fashion "issues." Taking this into consideration, it just doesn't make sense to throw away so much of our hard earned dollars on clothing expenses.

It is also the reason that acquiring gently used and new items at budget saving resources is so satisfactory. Much of a child's wardrobe is still in great condition when they grow out of, or no longer want to wear, the items. Many times their unwanted clothing is given away, donated to thrift stores, sold at yard sales, or offered at consignment shops.

When I decided to take advantage of these resources to save money on clothing and "tame the closet monster", my girls were greatly disappointed. The new methods of clothing acquisition, freebies, thrift stores, yard sales, consignment shops, and clearance items weren't exactly their style. My son wasn’t much of a challenge. Thank goodness, he’s not "fashion conscious".

I found that changing the way I approached them on the subject made things a little easier. For instance we don’t buy "used" clothing. We buy "previously owned, unwanted, or gently worn" clothing. And, I was sure to point out the many benefits of shopping at these budget saving resources.

The thrift store where I shop is owned and operated by the National Children's Center , a local organization that provides educational services, early intervention preschool, and child care to infants and young children with and without developmental delays. You will find that many of your local thrift stores are non-profit and support worthy charities.

I get a terrific value on name brand clothes popular with my girls peers, (Old Navy, Zana di, Paris Blues, Angel, Lei, Guess, Levi, Bubblegum, Mudd, Limited Too, Adidas). Well there’s not much I haven’t been lucky enough to find at this store. As a bonus, my purchase also supports a worthy cause. And let’s not forget that recycling these "unwanted" clothes is environmentally friendly. Everybody wins with these kinds of purchases.

These are important benefits that ease the embarrassment children sometimes experience when they shop at thrift stores. If your children are informed of all these benefits, they have the power to explain why they shop at thrift stores, if it ever comes up, and it doesn‘t have be for financial reasons. The wonderful part is, it will probably never come up in a conversation with their peers. My children have never had to explain themselves. Most items are of good quality and only gently used.

You would never know we are enjoying a frugal lifestyle with a wardrobe like this! In fact, with their closest friends the girls freely brag about the terrific deals we get on clothing. Some of their friends are even envious because of the wide selection of popular brand name jeans the girls are fortunate to own. They have come to the realization that five pairs of name brand jeans at the thrift store is a whole lot better than one at the department store price.

I have found many brand new items with tags still intact. No way for friends to know where these great clothes came from. They probably assume they shop at some expensive department store or specialty shop.

We actually have fun shopping at the thrift store now. I have even caught a hint of excitement in them from time to time. Maybe my excitement for saving money is rubbing off. Not! I think it’s just the fabulous clothes we find! I know the saving thing will kick in later. That’s what counts, teaching them how to be financially independent in life.

I strongly believe that knowledge is power. And, if you want to save money on anything, you must do your research! Informed consumer = More Savings, that's my motto. It took some shopping around for me to locate the best clothing value for my money. I did eventually find the one place where I consistently find excellent values with a great variety of choices.

I find most of my clothing "treasures" at this charity owned thrift store. It's about 15 miles from my home but well worth the drive considering the great values I come away with! My cost per item averages about $3. I rarely spend more than $5 and once in a great while I’ll splurge on a $6.95 item (usually new with tags still intact and a super value compared to the original price)

Besides visiting your local thrift stores you should check out these other great resources for low cost clothing. While shopping for your kids, you may just find some clothing treasures for yourself! These are also great resources for adult clothing, especially business attire that can be very costly.

Yard sales are a great resource for anything you might need. It may be a little more time consuming to go this route, but the rewards can be great. If you plan your yard sale trips correctly you can save a lot of time. As you become an experienced yard sale consumer, you will learn where yard sales are frequent in your area.
Combine this information with advertised yard sales in the local paper and on roadside signs and organize your trip to minimize your travel time. You will sometimes find bags of clothes for a great "take all" price. Even if everything isn’t usable you will usually get enough useful clothing to make the purchase a good value.

Make sure the clothes are in the right size range or are something they will grow into within a reasonable amount of time. If you have the time and purchasing items individually is an option, go through the bag. Purchase only what you know will be useful.

Consignment shops are rapidly becoming popular. Not only can you find some bargain purchases here they may be a valuable resource for you to turn your unwanted items into money. You let them do all the storing, selling, and paperwork, all you have to do is collect your money!
I have a friend who sells all of her unwanted "designer" clothing on the E-Bay auction site. I have not ventured to purchase clothing on ebay myself as of yet, but have purchased many other items such as books, movies, and gifts. Ebay is a great resource for new and pre-owned items, including clothing. Especially if you are geographically limited as far as shopping goes. Of course there are other auction sites where you might find clothing.
In conclusion, your best defense against overspending is information. In the end, the best value for you is what works best for you. And, what's available to you in your area. Investigate all your options and determine where the best value is based on your own needs. Yes, I'm going to say it again...

For oiling hardwood floors you will need the items listed below. Our quantity recommendations are based on experience of the average floor – if your wood flooring is very old and porous then increase the quantities and vice versa for dense wood types.

Stage 1 - treat the floor with the wood lye. This will soak into the wood and is left to dry overnight.

Stage 2 – Buff the woca wood floor oil (master oil, colour oil) into the floor. The floor surface should then be rubbed down with coarse patina disks to smooth the wood grain. Any excess oil needs to be removed with a cloth so that the surface is damp rather than wet with the oil. If using the white master oil you will notice that some of the white residue is removed when wiping off the excess.

Stage 3 – Wash the floor using the wood cleaner. Re-oil with maintenance oil and rub down with the medium patina disk

Stage 4 – General maintenance of your floor. The white pigments in the soap will keep the floor light. The white soap should be used regardless of which oil was originally applied.

Preparation with Wood Lye: Stage 1

Ensure your wood floor has been correctly sanded ready for the oiling process.

The Wood Lye is a solution which contains a white pigment that ensures the floor will remain light after it is finished and continues to lighten when exposed to sunlight. You can use Wood Lye on any wood type, both softwood and hardwood. There are 2 types of wood lye which will complement your floor – for softwoods such as Pine and Larch, you need to use the softwood lye. For hardwoods such as oak and exotic species the Wood lye should be used.

Empty the Lye into a bucket or container and stir thoroughly to ensure all the pigments have been fully mixed together (these often settle at the bottom of the bottle). When applying the wood lye use a blue nylon pad with the flat mop to get into tight corners. The instructions on the Woca Wood Lye state that the floor needs to be washed with Intensive Wood Cleaner before applying the Wood Lye, however this is not always required and the floor can be prepared by removing any dust with a vacuum.

1. Spread the wood lye in to the floor using blue flat mop. Apply a generous coat of aprox 7sqm per litre to the floor. Ensure the wood is evenly saturated by brushing along the grain of the wood. Leave to dry for 8 hours.
2. A further wash with intensive wood cleaner is recommended by Woca to remove any excess lye but this step is not always required as this process is also done when the floor is treated with the master oil.

The oiling process: Stage 2

Ensure all the Wood Lye has completely dried out before applying the oil.

It is advisable to wear old clothes during oiling as this process involves using plenty of oil cloths and the oil can damage your clothing. The process takes aprox 1 hour per 20sqm. Take care when using the oil as it can cause skin irritation – the use of oil resistant rubber gloves is recommended. When the cloths have been used they need to be placed in a bucket of water as the fumes can cause self-combustion.

Empty the contents of the oil into a container and stir well to ensure the white pigments are not settled at the bottom of the container.

Apply the oil using the flat mop, brush, roller or cloth. Take care around the edges of the room and apply with a small brush and cloth to ensure no oil is splashed onto skirting or adjoining floors.

Leave the oil for 20 minutes to soak into the wood. If the oil absorbs through before this time apply more oil. Buff the floor using a flat mop to ensure the oil is fully absorbed. Working along the grain of the wood, buff the surface using the green patina disk to smooth the surface. Working from the edge of the room furthest from the exit, wipe off all excess oil using clean cloths and ensure there are no patches of oil left on the floor as this will start to shine when dry. A polishing machine can be used during this process for larger areas. These can be hired from most hire shops. Leave to dry for at least 12 hours and do not walk on the floor in this time. Dispose of all the cloths by placing in a container filled with water as they can self combust / ignite.

Maintenance process: Stage 3

A final maintenance coat should be applied to ensure that the floor is completely protected – if building work is being done protect the floor with Everbuild Roll and Stroll until all work is complete – then apply the maintenance coat.

1st Maintenance Coat
The 1st maintenance coat is applied to ensure that the floor stays durable and wear resisistant. This maintenance coat should be done after all building / decorating work has been completed as it can remove any dirt / wear from work done.

Step 1 – Wet Clean and scrub
This step involves cleaning the floor with Intensive Wood Cleaner. This should be made up of 1 part cleaner and 40 parts water. Scrub the floor using the flat mop to get any dirt off the floor.

Using a dry mop head or dry cloth, wipe off all the excess water from the floor. When the cloth / mop head get saturated rinse and wring out before continuing. Check the floor for marks whilst it is still wet – any marks on the floor can be removed with the edge of a knife.

Leave the floor to dry for 1-2 hours. Some floors including oak floors may look dull now – however the sheen and colour will return when re-oiled.

Step 2 – Oil

Apply a thin coat of maintenance to the floor using a cloth and rub in well. The maintenance oil should be used sparingly. Whilst the floor is still damp, the floor should be buffed by using 2 green patina disks with the flat mop. This will smooth the surface of the wood to give a beautiful protected finish.

Wipe any excess oil from the floor after buffing. Leave the floor to dry for at least 4 hours before walking on it. If you are using a buffing machine and you want a higher sheen on the floor you can apply a second coat of maintenance oil and leave to dry for 1 – 2 hours. When the floor is tacky the excess can be buffed off.

Periodical cleaning: Stage 4

The White soap needs to be used when cleaning and maintaining your floor to keep the floor light. When the floor requires a maintenance clean complete step 3 to bring the floor back to its fully protected condition.

A dust-sized silkworm ovum will grow into an ant-shaped silkworm after brooding for a month, and then grow into a long white worm after four periods of quiescence and exuviation and then, the silkworm begins spinning pure white silk and finally turns into a pupa. There are many legends about the development of silkworms. One of them is a touching story, which goes as follows.

Once upon a time, there was a father and his daughter who depended on each other very much. They had a white horse, which the girl fed with mulberry leaves. Once, the father went out to do some trade and didn't come back on time. No one knew of his whereabouts. The daughter was very worried about him. One day, she prayed to marry a kind-hearted man who could help her find her father. When she had just finished asking for this, the white horse standing beside her nodded, circled around her three times and galloped away. Several days later, the white horse found the old man who had lost his way in the mountains and carried him home on his back. However, the white horse was always with the girl from then on and the father was puzzled by the matter. After he questioned her, the girl told the truth to her father. He got very angry, "It is natural that the horse looks for its owner, but how can an animal be a match for a person?" When the horse heard this, it began neighing and refused to eat anything. The father was very angry, and killed it with an arrow. He skinned the horse and dried the hide in the sunshine. After the daughter collected mulberry leaves, she returned home. Caressing the skin of the horse, she burst into tears. When her tears dropped on the horse, her body was wrapped up by the skin and flown to the sky. Later, seeing snow-white silkworms hanging on the mulberry trees, people said that theses silkworms were the girls wrapped in the horse's skin. Since the head of the silkworm is similar to that of a horse's head, Matouniang (a girl with a horse's head) became another name for silkworm. When the daughter missed her father, she spun out the long silk. This is a legend about the origin of how silkworms spin silk and become silkworm cocoons.

In the past, whenever there was a bumper harvest of silkworm cocoons sericulturists would light an incense burner and offerings were arranged in the central room of a house to thank the Goddess of Silkworms. The statue of the goddess engraved on a wooden plate was a goddess in a horse-skin cloth. She had a vertical eye on her forehead which was deliberately drawn because no one could bear to see the arrow wound.

It is very interesting that Japan also has a legend about Matouniang with the spread of Chinese silkworms to Japan in the third century. However, in Japan the Goddess of Silkworms is a Japanese beauty in a kimono that rides a horse.

Sericulture in the region of Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces is as important as farming. A good or poor harvest of silkworms is directly related to the livelihood of sericulturists. Silkworms are tender and delicate, hard to raise and easily get diseases. If the diseases spread, all the efforts of the sericulturists will be wasted. Therefore, when the season for breeding silkworms comes, every household in the villages is very busy. There are also many taboos and regulations in this period.

There are taboos surrounding the raising of silkworms. Women are prohibited from visiting friends, children from shouting, and men from going without a shirt during the time when silkworms are being hatched. On seeing peach branches which are thought to avoid evil and red paper with the characters can yue zhi li (A man should be polite in the month of silkworms) inserted on the eaves of a sericulturist's house, an unexpected guest should go away quietly.

There are other taboos and regulations concerning the homes of sericulturists, such as forbidding a stranger to enter the house, prohibitions on shouting, crying, and knocking doors or windows in the house. Liquor, vinegar, and anything smelling of fish of mutton should not be brought into a sericulturist's house and it is forbidden to dig the ground, cut grass, husk rice with a mortar and pestle or to burn fur and hair around a sericulturist's house. in the past, before putting silkworm eggs into a round shallow basket woven out of bamboo, people always pasted a wood engraving of a cat on the basket. This was because mice are natural enemies of silkworms. The mice often climbed to the shelves of silkworms and ate young silkworms when night-watchers dozed off. Hence, every household not only raised cats, but also retains the custom of pasting a picture of a cat on the basket.

Of course, some regulations are superstitious, for instance, menstruating women or women about to give birth are forbidden to raise silkworms; when buying mulberry leaves from other villages, in order to dispel evil spirits, sericulturists use mulberry branches to lash the leaves three times, and then feed them to silkworms. However, the purpose of all these prohibitions is to avoid noise pollution and bad smells. Young silkworms grow healthily in a clean and quiet environment.

When harvesting silkworm cocoons, sericulturists will, according to tradition, buy fish and meat, kill chickens and arrange feasts to celebrate. At this time, friends and relatives bring loquats, duck eggs and zongzi (a triangular dumpling made of glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo or other leaves) to visit these sericulturists. They come to send best wishes and ask how many can hua (harvests) these sericulturists get.

Can hua (literally "silkworm flower") is not a flower, but a word which indicates a good or bad harvest of silkworm cocoons. According to local custom, when young silkworms lie dormant for the fourth time, sericulturists will weigh these silkworms on a scale. For instance, if one catty of silkworms can spin out six catties of silkworm cocoons, the six-catty cocoons are called liu fen can hua (liu means six, and fen is a unit of measurement). The word can hua is often used in reference to the silkworm trade, but its meaning has various connotations according to the situation.

For example, local people call women sericulturists can hua gu niang (gu niang means a girl). On the morning of the first day of the lunar year, a woman sericulturist must, according to tradition, sweep the floor from the outside to the inside of a house. It is called sao can hua di (sweep the floor of can hua), meaning that there will be a good harvest of silkworm cocoons when can hua is swept into a house.

On New Year holidays, people will greet each other by saying, gong xi fa cai (may you make a fortune) and can hua er she si fen) (wish you a good harvest of silkworm cocoons).

On the day of the Qingming Festival, at the beginning of April, can hua gu niang will insert can hua in their hair at the temples. Can hua here refers to small flower, or golden yellow vegetable flowers. The can hua gu niang will go to a monastery to pray together at an appointed time. They will also buy some silk flowers from the monastery and insert them in round shallow baskets. This is called tao can hua (tao here mean to beg). They believe that can hua coming from a monastery can expel all the evils in a sericulturist's house, so they will have a brisk silkworm business. At night, the woman of the house will prepare a delicious dinner. The family then gets together to drink. This is called can hua jiu (jiu means liquor). Drinking can hua jiu means that they will do their best to raise silkworms.

When a couple get married, the girl's parents will send the couple two young mulberries, two round shallow baskets of silkworms and silk clothes and bedding as a dowry. They hope that the bride will bring brisk business."

Well, other news, I did get some diapers, but they're depends. Which I honestly hate really, they're too thin. I mostly like realllyyyyyy thick diapers. Which is why I'll be making some thick cloth ones soon when my grandmother has time to teach me.

Oh, and another thing, James is trying to be my daddy, but isn't gentle at all, and doesn't put any effort to even try being a daddy. Well that's what it seems anyways. I also can't fully regress when he's the daddy because I'm scared he's going to switch back to being a baby at last minute. Plus I always get scared of losing him as a daddy, so that's also why I can't regress. I just want to be snuggled and loved, and run around and play with him. He's told me he gets really bored easy so he won't play with me or anything at all which is no fun :( . I have tried regressing around him, but then I feel like I'm setting myself up for getting hurt so I stop being little. Oh and a very interesting thing that happened early this morning, James was going to change me, but then he's like "oh I'm going to be late for work, bye baby" and just left. I ended up changing myself and having trouble sleeping. I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I feel I'm doing something. Is it so wrong to want a daddy? I mean I've been mommy to him plenty of times, and last night he claimed to want to be Dom and not the sub. So I'm all confused. Sometimes I just want to scream "what is it you really want!" but I just end up crying instead, and he wonders why I cry...Well mostly I cry because of my mom but that's a whole different story. I love him so, so very much, but he just seems to not be into the whole daddy thing. I wish someone could teach him how to be a daddy. First things first, as soon as you hit level 5 go and learn skinning, this is by far the "least effort / most profit" gathering profession especially in lower levels. Also make sure you collect all the cloth that drops. Everytime you are near a town with a mailbox send all your trade goods (skins, cloth and any other items you find) to your auctioneer (read previous post in case you've missed it). Dont run around with almost full stacks because in the beginning you will have very little inventory space and you need to pick up everything in order to get the first few silver in.

The auctioneer simply sells everything he can once he gets full stacks of it (it's often more profitebly to sell items in full stacks but this can vary, more on that later). Since I did not mention it in the last post make sure to install the Auctioneer Addon in World of Warcraft.

I've heard many players who constantly say "I CBA to do skinning" (CBA = Can't be arsed), these people will remain poor in terms of gold unless they have some other scheme because professions are a great key to income later on in the game. The gathering professions are good from the start (with the slight exception of herbalism which yields little money compared to effort in the start, mining is harder but at least it pays off) but the crafting professions are amazingly good source of income if you know how to use them.

So, since this is the start we're talking about, get two gathering professions on your new character. If you later want a crafting profession you can simply drop one and switch to whatever you'd like.

These tips should get you your first 5-10 gold quite easy around level 10-15.

The immediately appreciated quality of these shawls is their softness and the extraordinary delicacy of their cloth, which comes from their manufacture in Tibet goat's down.

The goat's down has outstanding qualities because of the delicacy of the fiber (3 to 4 times lower in the thickness of a hair, so less than 13 microns), and the necessary extreme conditions for its production (Himalayan winter).

What differentiates Orenburg Shawls?

The Tibet is located on the Himalayas which, as any mountain, has two sides: the south side overlooks India and especially Kashmir, where the north side overlooks the Kirghizstan which is a Russian province, near to the Orenburg city.
Both products use the same goat's down.

An essential difference exists however between both products: the technique of manufacture.
Orenburg Shawls are knit, what gives them an exceptional filling and an even bigger softness, while the Kashmir shawls are loom weaved.

There are in fact two techniques for the Orenburg Shawls: the most common consists in knitting them either with hand needles in a traditional way, or with specialized machines which still leaves a big part to the manual work, or the exceptional method of the "fork", which allowing a wider mesh size, gives to the shawls an extraordinarily light texture.

Thanks to the "Fork's method", the specialized workers get the "Spider web" aspect, which besides improving the esthetics and the filling, keeps a very good insulating capacity.
