It's looking like Carol's son, age 12, will be staying in Minnesota with a couple we found there who wants to take care of him. They are well-off and kind and active and have a nice house near a lake with good schools and a skate park nearby. They also have older sons, so they've been to that show, as it were. And he'll have brothers, which is great.

After one of the neighbors found out that he was going to be living there, they rounded up all the neighborhood kids at once and showed up at the house to meet him, sort of an impromptu getting-to-know-you party. I think the attention did him good. He made friends with a 13-year-old boy right away.

He hadn't had much to say about his mom since it all went down. But after a few days of living with this couple, he showed up at their room in the night, tapped on the door, and told them that he missed his mom. He cried and talked, for the first time. They told him he could come and talk whenever he felt that way. I'm so grateful to know that he's capable of attaching like that, that everything he's been through hasn't left him to fiercely independent at too young an age, as the adult sphere of his world has--at times--been so dark and frightening, here today, gone tomorrow. It would have been easy for him to turn out differently. But he hasn't.

Some photos from our camping trip west of Red Feather Lakes last weekend, July 12-13.

[caption id="attachment_201" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="July wildflowers"][/caption]

Like most of Colorado, the high country west of us got a great deal of snow last winter and spring; it's still quite wet up there. Upside: wonderful flowers. Downside: skeeters like you wouldn't believe.

[caption id="attachment_204" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Rio and Molly"][/caption]
[caption id="attachment_205" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Pippin"][/caption]

One of the greatest things about camping is VERY happy (and tired) dogs. A July snow bank can be a complete amusement park:

[caption id="attachment_208" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Molly and Pippin chase snowballs"][/caption]
[caption id="attachment_209" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption=" "][/caption]

A hike up through the forest (no trail, just bushwhacking) led us to a gorgeous spot.

[caption id="attachment_224" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Mummy Range"][/caption]

That's looking south toward Rocky Mountain National Park and the Mummy Range. And this is the way life should be:

[caption id="attachment_213" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="My tribe"][/caption]

It's all about getting in touch with your less civilized side. Getting dirty is a big part of the fun.

Hello tharr.

I am in love with StumbleUpon^^
I used to spend my time on the internet clicking back and forth between tabs, hoping for new messages and stuff, and trying to remember something to look up on the net.
But now with stumble I can just click when I'm bored, and voilà! I'm not bored anymore :)

One thing I found was this flash game called "Samorost". It's not really fun to play, but the pictures are so cool and surreal and cute. And when you click on the characters they make these funny noises^^ And the animators of the game made a music video for a band from Denmark called "Under Byen". [link]
I kinda like the music... reminds me of Björk a little.

And another cool thing I found is "Booksmart" from Blurb. It's a program you can download to your computer, and then you can make your own book :D And you can order it... it's really cool. Prices start at 12.95 $. I might order one... with pictures or so.

Also, I found a cool flash thingy: Jackson Pollock by Miltos Manetas
Just move your mouse around the screen and you'll get dots and splatters depending on how fast you move your mouse :) And you can click to change the color...

Here's part of a "Painting" I made:

I found a funny little movie too: "The End of the World"
It's kinda dumb but still funny XD "But I am le tired..."

Ah heck. I found so many fun/interesting things, instead of writing about all of them in detail, I'll just make a list:

* www.zefrank.com: Fun little internet toys like the "Carol Maker" and the "String Spin Toy"
* How many countries can you name in 5 minutes?
* Typobay: searches for Products on ebay with spelling mistakes in them, which usually means they don't have any/a lot of offers because they don't show up when you search for them... pretty useful :)
* Anatomy of a Black Hole: complicated, I don't quite understand yet, but it's interesting, and explained with animations :) I always wanted to know what a Black Hole is exactly...
* I Do Dog Tricks: cute little doggie who does dog tricks for you^^
* Lorenz Butterfly: Chaos theory animated :)
* Japanese IQ test: quite hard o.O I did solve it after like half an hour...

That's about it.. for today :D I'll probably be posting tons of links in the next few days/weeks...

Today my dad bought a sony handycam :D I'm excited to try it out... I'm going to keep it with me in america, so soon I can upload videos too :) I might even start a vlog... if it's not too akward for me..

Have a nice day/night/whatever :)

KISSCALLME ;*

I logged onto the Facebooks today to kill a little time at work. At the top of something called the 'News Feed', the following was noted:

The RealEB added "Exercise" to his interests.

Really? This is one of your interests? Neat. Here's a few other interests he probably has: commuting, doing taxes, washing dishes.

It's times like these that make me seriously question my participation in this league. I mean, how can I justify trading Morneau to a team whose manager feels it important to note publicy that exercise is one of his interests? I could never do that to one of my players.

God help us all.

For the record: JohnHeartsTwoBites added 'Carol' to his interests.

Whew, my business statistics class is done. And yeah, my brain still works but apparently my process

Whew, my business statistics class is done. And yeah, my brain still works but apparently my processing speed and storage capacity is quite a byte less than the 20 year olds in the class as I was the second to last one finished with the exam! I learned all sorts of new terms and symbols that I will never use again like:

Symbol Statistics Real Life

μ ("mu") the mean of a population parameter What a cat says

α (alpha) the level of significance Dominant Dog

σ (sigma) standard deviation maker of faucets

Χ (chi) Chi square distribution Chinese for life energy

β (beta) symbol for Type II error defunct taping format

Σ (sumation) "sum of" sideways "M"

√ square root means "that's done"

Isn't it interesting that one X means "life energy" and XXX denotes moonshine (or porno), and XOXO means kisses and hugs?

Sorry - There is just no way to be clever after a statistics class!

To fully understand why I even bother taking these classes, watch for upcoming excepts on aging and the brain!
