There is some paving repair work being done on the east entrance to Swanson Hall. No big deal, but please use the west entrance for the time being.

FBG is also doing some floor waxing at the same time, but they promise to keep access open for all classes and staff.

Just keep an eye out for detour signs and you'll get to class just fine.

 Una breve descrizione del progetto architettonico della cittadella universitaria di Lovanio in una presentazione dell'architetto Michel Woitrin.

L’Università di Lovanio è stata creata nel 1425 dal papa Martino V, nella città di Lovanio, una regione di lingua olandese. Per diversi secoli, la lingua parlata all’Università era il latino. Dopo la Rivoluzione francese, l’Università venne chiusa. Nel 1834 viene riaperta dai vescovi belgi. La lingua parlata all’Università è in prima battuta il francese, inseguito il fiammingo. Dal 1963, e in particolare dopo il 1968 i fiamminghi più radicali esigono la partenza dei francofoni. Le autorità della sezione francofona dell’Università finiscono per accettare l’idea di lasciare Leuven in cambio di garanzie giuridiche e finanziarie.
Nasce allora il “sogno” o il “grande disegno” di costruire una piccola città universitaria il più possibile “normale” e non un “ghetto-campus-torre d’avorio” tanto in voga all’epoca.
L’ideazione della città prende forma nel corso di 5 anni dal 1963 al 1968 attraverso riflessioni, viaggi di studio, preparativi segreti. Si acquista un terreno libero, di 920 ettari, con i finanziamenti statali, a prezzo conveniente, appena a 30 Km di distanza da Bruxelles, nella regione francofona Brabant wallon,
situato tra la ferrovia Bruxelles-Namur e l’autostrada Bruxelles-Namur.
I 920 ettari sono suddivisi come segue:
-350 ettari per la città in senso stretto (compresa in un cerchio di raggio di 1 km corrispondente a una dimensione pedonale di una città del XII secolo)

-150 ettari, poi diventati 200 ettari, poi 250 ettari per il Parco scientifico (+ di 100 imprese, 4.000 occupati)

-200 ettari di foresta da conservare (18 cervi)

-una riserva di terreni per la realizzazione di progetti di espansione, o per correggere gli errori passati.
 
I principi del piano direttore del 1970:
1. una città a scala umana
2. il luogo rappresenta l’elemento generatore della città (la vallata, le piccole colline devono essere preservate e definire i futuri quartieri)
3. l’Università deve essere integrata nella città (mixité generalizzata)
4. l’Università è il motore della città
5. la città è pensata prima di tutto per i pedoni (per il dialogo)
6. realizzare fin dall’inizio un’atmosfera urbana
7. concepire un processo flessibile
8. immaginare un centro urbano dal “volto umano” (con diversi
tipi di animazione urbana)
9. una città integrata con l’ambiente (definita da un margine evidente)

  E’ difficile spiegare agli urbanisti che un’Università desideri realizzare non un campus-ghetto ma una città “vera”.   Ma oltre la programmazione in cifre era necessario “fare” urbanistica e architettura. A questo scopo l’Università crea il gruppo UA (Urbaniste et Architecture).

Lo dirige Raymond Lemaire professore universitario né urbanista, né architetto, né ingegnere ma docente di storia dell’arte all’

-città del dialogo (tra facoltà, tra gruppi sociali, tra gruppi di età diversa…), ovvero massima mixité in ogni quartiere della città

-rifiuto di un’urbanistica alla maniera di Le Corbusier.

-città ispirata alla città storica (dimensione, volumi, circolazione), lo spazio pubblico si articola in piccole piazze (“traboules” come i passaggi stretti di Lione); si parlava di un’atmosfera urbana italiana; una sorta di urbanistica neomedioevale (fatto salva l’area dell’aula magna realizzata in ferro e vetro)-la densità dei luoghi, lo spirito di dialogo che si respira nella città evocano un “braciere di anime”. Recentemente il Rettore di Bruxelles ha sottolineato la difficoltà di realizzare un “quartiere latino” in una grande città. 

-si tratta di una città artificiale (o meglio “volontariste” ovvero nata dalla volontà). L’espressione di questa volontà può arrivare fino a concepire quartieri di case unifamiliari per non-studenti.

Lo Stato Federale belga, che per una decisione presa a maggioranza dal Parlamento ha deciso di cacciare l’Università francofona dalla città di Louvain, stabilisce di dare all’UCL l’opportunità di “risorgere” altrove su un luogo scelto liberamente dall’Università stessa.
Lo Stato garantisce prestiti all’1,25% per l’acquisto di terreni, la costruzione di laboratori, alcune migliaia di stanze per gli studenti, ospedali… (circa 15 miliardi di franchi belgi ossia 375 Mio di euro fin dalle prime richieste).
Tuttavia per realizzare una città “normale” è necessario attirare investimenti privati: residenti, laboratori privati, stanze per studenti date in affitto dai residenti…
Per attirare investimenti è necessario predisporre un progetto di qualità capace di attirare famiglie e investitori (e consentire l’emissione di certificati immobiliari “Immolouneuve”).
 L’Università conta 20.000 studenti.
 L’Università e la ricerca sono povere ma decise a trovare nuove strade di finanziamento.
 Le antiche fattorie (due del XII secolo) accolgono attività di teatro (J. Vilar) e musica (Biéreau)
L’atmosfera universitaria è minacciata dall’arrivo di investimenti privati dominanti (cinema nella grande place), gallerie commerciali (30.000m2 commercio/ ufficio, 22.000m2 residenziali)
Il cinema ha superato per importanza percettiva la Biblioteca centrale.
La civiltà dell’automobile minaccia il progetto urbano: si cerca di tenere sotto controllo la presenza delle auto almeno nel centro città. Sono andate perdute troppe occasioni di valorizzazione dello
spazio pubblico, specialmente delle piccole piazze. La piscina e la Hall des sports sono state localizzate male.
In futuro è necessario prevedere l’arrivo a LLN della rete RER per spingere i visitatori a utilizzare il trasporto su ferro è necessario pensare a lungo termine e correggere gli errori del passato. I terreni disponibili ci sono e sono sufficienti per prevedere sviluppi a lungo termine… è possibile ancora sognare su numerosi ettari!

Dix régions françaises du Nord de la Loire, (Bourgogne, Bretagne, Champagne-Ardenne, Franche-Comté, Lorraine, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, Basse-Normandie, Haute-Normandie, Pays de Loire, et Picardie) auxquelles il faut rajouter les régions du centre de la France, (Auvergne, Centre, Limousin et Poitou-Charentes) et la Corse, n’auront aucun financement public pour rénover leurs campus universitaires. Et pourtant, ces quatorze régions comptent plus de 25 millions d’habitants, autant que le Sud de la France qui a 6 campus choisis.

Il est inadmissible qu’aucun des trois campus constitués de 3 ou 4 universités et comptant plus de 50 000 étudiants (Lille, Nancy-Metz, Rennes) mais aussi Clermont-Ferrand n’aient été retenus. Comment la Ministre, certes francilienne, a-t-elle pu oublier la moitié de la France ? Comment les conseillers ministériels ont-ils pu laisser passer une telle boulette, car elle est énorme, en faisant passer aux « oubliettes » le Centre, l’Est et le Nord de la France ? Il s’agit d’un affront fait à un territoire aussi important que les Pays-Bas et la Belgique réunis (27 millions d’habitants), ou encore que la Hongrie, la République Tchèque et la Slovaquie (25,5 millions d’habitants). Imaginez-vous que les Hongrois toléreraient que l’on déclasse l’université de Budapest ou les Belges, celle de Louvain ?

Cette décision est gravissime, car elle organise le déplacement programmé de la matière
grise vers Paris et le Sud de la France. Les régions écartées devront financer elles-mêmes entre 200 et 400 millions d’euros et il est évident que ce « manque à gagner » sera payé par les contribuables de régions déjà souvent défavorisés.

Nous, soussignés, demandons donc au Gouvernement de revoir sa copie pour parvenir à plus d’équité sur le territoire national et souhaitons qu’il réunisse à nouveau en octobre le comité de sélection, pour une modification de la décision initiale.

Une délégation de signataires de toute sensibilité transmettra cette pétition à Monsieur le Président de la République, à Monsieur le Premier Ministre, à Madame la Ministre de l’Enseignement Supérieur et de la Recherche, à Monsieur le Président de l’Assemblée Nationale et à Monsieur le Président du Sénat, à la rentrée d’octobre.

Our scene focuses on the laundry room of an on campus apartment facility right on the main street of the campus.  Deep in the basement Rob is begrudgingly doing his laundry.  He has no socks left, he is on his last pair of underwear and he’s wearing that t-shirt from high school that magically “shrunk” over the past three years.  Rob continues to reassure himself that this is the shirt’s fault and not the 2,000 plus calories he ingests three to four nights a week in beer and pizza.  But there is laundry to be done and Rob must be diligent at his task because his lucky rugby shirt requires washing and chicks love rugby shirts and sometimes the guys that wear them.  This is not something proven scientifically, but rather something he suspects in the depths of his loins.  He goes to unload one of the washing machines, but stops dead once he sees what is in it.

What was in this washing machine is something very strange and mysterious to men of all ages.  They have been known to be called “delicates” by women.  But men know better than to call them this.  They are known in guy language as “bras and underwear”.  They come in various shapes and sizes, colors, prints, designs and styles.  Men don’t know the names of these things, but they know that they are very, very afraid of seeing them in the washing machine.  This is a Worst Case Scenario. 

As Rob takes a deep breath he desperately checks all the other washing machines in the laundry room to see how much time is left on them.  There is upwards of twenty minutes left on every single machine.  His mind races.  He will have to do the unthinkable, forbidden, borderline creepy thing.  He will have to remove the bras and underwear from the washing machine and put them into the dryer.

The estimated distance between the washing machine and the nearest available dryer is seven and half feet.  If Rob takes strides that are two and a half feet long, it will take him three strides to successfully move the contents.    If each stride takes 1.2 seconds, that is a total of 3.6 seconds of having “Girl stuff” in his arms.  Why is Rob so concerned?  He is concerned because of the three possible outcomes, each with increasing levels of embarrassment. 

The first outcome involves another guy deciding to do his laundry in that 3.6 second period.  He will see the guy holding the underwear, laugh at the unfortunate predicament of his fellow man and move on instantly. 

The second outcome involves another Girl coming down while he is moving the Girl stuff.  The Girl will probably think it looks funny to see such a large man handling such petite and wildly colored underwear.  Rob will be tragically embarrassed, but the Girl will move on and think it is no big deal.

The third outcome is by far the most embarrassing for the guy.  As the guy is moving these frilled and brightly colored things, the Girl to whom the underwear belongs walks into the laundry room.  Two things can then happen.  The guy spontaneously combusts or he will play it cool and ask if she brought fabric softener.  They will then have sex. 

I’m kidding, but that would be pretty rad if it happened though.

As Rob ponders these outcomes he shudders at the last one.  How horrible that would be.  He decides that he is a grown man and can handle this situation.  He’s just going to go for it. 

His heart is racing.  He kneels down, grabs all of the underwear and bras, pivots back towards the dryer.  He takes his first step and everything is cool.  On his second step the unthinkable happens.  Some underwear-like-thing begins to fall off the top of the pile he is carrying.  He panics.  In an effort to save the underwear he disrupts the delicate balance of delicates in his hands.  They fall out of his hands and scatter all across the floor.  It looks like a nuclear bomb of underwear has just hit in the laundry room.  Rob begins to sweat nervously.  Someone could come in any moment.  He gets on his knees and begins to frantically grab at thongs and boy shorts and bras with lace and… well he doesn’t know what he is grabbing half the time and that is the problem.  He is elated as he grabs the last piece…

Girl:  What are you doing?

Rob:  Oh, I was just moving some stuff to the dryer and I dropped it.

Girl:  That was nice of you.  I think that is my stuff.

Rob:  Oh… yikes.  Well… should I just go ahead and put it in the dryer then?

Girl:  I suppose so.

Rob:  Do you have any sabric foftener?

Girl:  Excuse me?

Rob:  We should have sex.

Girl:  What?!

Rob:  I said do you have any fabric softener.

Girl:  Oh yeah.  Right here.

Rob puts the delicates into the washing machine.  Turns back to her, grabs the “sabric foftener” from her outstretched hand and starts the dryer.

Rob:  Okay.  Well I’ll see you later I suppose.

Girl:  Ahem, aren’t you forgetting something?

Rob:  I don’t know what you mean.

Girl:  Is that my underwear in your pocket?

Rob:  Yes.  I thought I would keep it.

Girl:  Why would you think that?

Rob:  Because… well I helped you move your stuff to the dryer.  Like a panties tax.

Girl:  What the hell is the “panties tax”?

Rob:  You know, I get to take panties from the loads I help transfer from the washer to the dryer.

Girl:  That is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard.

Rob:  You’re ridiculous, where are you from, Europe?  Listen bitch, this is America, and in America we have the panties tax.

Girl:  That is the most absurd thing….Oh my God.  I’ve heard about you.  I know you who you are.  A bunch of my roommates said that their underwear was missing last week.  It was you and your ridiculous “panties tax”.  That is so creepy.

Rob:  But… the panties tax…

Girl:  Christ on a pogo stick, can you just forget the panties tax.  Wait… why am I even calling it that?  It’s not real… and stop saying panties.  That is the most awkward word.  That and the word “moist”.

Rob:  What if I said…

Girl:  Don’t you say it…

Rob: .... "moist panties".

Girl:  Blaaaaaargh

Rob:  Holy shit!  You just threw up all over your panties…  I mean… underwear stuff.  I guess you’ll have to wash them again.

Girl:  Yep.  I suppose so.

Rob:  Need any help?  It’s tax free.

Girl:  I should have joined the Army.

El Campus Party Colombia 2008 un evento sin precedentes en el país, realizado del 22 al 28 de junio del 2008 fue todo un éxito; y no solo por la organización, la calidad y las temáticas con tenidas en el evento sino por una nueva raza de personas vinculadas a l as tecnologías como lo es el  Campusero.

 Pero que se necesita para ser un buen ¿Campusero? Veamos:

1. Fanático de la Tecnología:

 Si la tecnología te desvela, te hace perder el sueño y hasta la conciencia seguro puedes ser un buen Campusero.

 Comentarios:

 -Reinaron las ojeras en el área de Juegos

-Participantes con Pc hasta en los baños

-Pc´s de todas las formas colores y funciones.

 2. Espíritu Colaborador

 Si te gusta ayudar con las dudas más absurdas o complicadas, de seguro el Campus es para ti.

 - Se ejecutaron 206 horas de sesiones educativas y de transferencia de conocimiento.

- Se realizaron 70 horas de sesiones pedagógicas para acercar el Internet y la tecnología a quienes no la tienen cerca.

 3. Resistencia física

 Para los que pueden soportar hasta altas horas de la noche inmersos en los pc´s o consolas, levantarse temprano y seguir con el mismo ritmo. Todo esto durante 7 días y aun así tener  alientos de empacar todo y viajar hasta la casa.

 -Los Más Madrugadores: Campusbot , Software Libre y Campusblog

 4. Conocimiento o Ganas de aprender

 Para enseñar y aprender, conferencias y talleres hasta en la sopa, si ves la agenda de actividades y deseas estar en varias partes al mismo tiempo, tienes un rasgo típico de un buen Campusero.

 -Gran afluencia de personas a las conferencias a veces no cabían en el área designada, grandes dilemas sobre a donde asistir, lastimosamente todas las conferencias de todas las áreas comenzaban a las mismas horas.

5. Alegría

 Si tu espíritu no se quebranta por estar durmiendo en una Carpa (en el frío sabanero de bogota), compartir las duchas (40 para los hombres y 40 para las mujeres aprox) entre 2000 campuseros y aguantar la bulla de tus vecinos de carpa (saludes al costeño de al lado que no dejo conciliar el sueño un solo día y aun así se levantaba a las 6 am haciendo la misma bulla con la que se acostó) tienes la casta de líder campusero.

 -al 6 día  todavía se hacia la ola a las 2 am.

Esperamos  entonces con ansias el próximo Campus Party Colombia, les anexo  algunas estadísticas publicadas por la organización.

En esta versión de Campus Colombia, los campuseros que nos acompañaron se agrupaban así:

PIMNAS adalah Pekan Ilmiah Mahasiswa Nasional yang selenggarakan oleh Direktorat Jendral Perguruan Tinggi (DIKTI) yang merupakan acara tahunan. PIMNAS pekan 2008 diselenggarakan di Semarang Jawa Tengah tepatnya di Universitas Islam Sultan Agung (UNISSULA) dari tanggal 14 - 19 Juli 2008 kemaren. PIMNAS merupakan ajang unjuk kebolehan mahasiswa untuk membuktikan kreativitas, inovlasi dan ide-ide cemerlangnya.

Tahun 2008 adalah tahun paling terbanyak peminat PIMNAS ini, terbukti dengan jumlah proposal yang masuk ke DIKTI sebanyak lebih dari 12.000 (dua belas ribu) proposal, kemudian disaring hanya 4.000 (empat ribu) yang mendapat biaya untuk penelitian dan hanya 260 yang lolos ke Universitas Islam Sultan Agung untuk mempresentasikan hasil karyanya di hadapan juri.]

Universitas Widyatama salah satu peserta yang beruntung yang bisa lolos ke UNISSULA, walaupun tidak mendapatkan juara. Tampil sebagai juara umum adalah Universitas Brawijaya.

Sebanyak 3.000 (tiga ribu) lebih, mahasiswa se Indonesia siap bertanding di PIMNAS 2008

Hari pertama, kita disambut dengan Bapak Mentri Pendidikan dan nyanyian dari Ebit G Ade.

Wisata ke Lawang Sewu, katanya tempat ini yang dijadikan shooting Ayat-Ayat Cinta.

I've often looked forlornly at the outdoor patio of Peanut Barrel while strolling along with my wife and two daughters.  The place looks like a lot of fun  --  but not super kid friendly (not meant as a criticism).  I don't think they have a highchair and the patio doesn't look big enought to accomodate our stroller.  But, thanks to a babysitter and a night enjoying the beautiful weather in East Lansing, my wife and I finally were able to give Peanut Barrel a shot.

I had Sal's Memorial 'Shroom Burger with fries and a Long Island Iced Tea.  My wife had a sandwich (can't remember which one) and a Long Island Iced Tea.  The meal and drink were delicious and the patio vibe was a lot of fun.  Total cost for dinner and drinks with tip was about $23.  Not a bad deal at all and a great spot to people watch.  Service was fair but in their defense, the 2 waitresses were covering the entire patio and trying to keep track of the seating order between them.  I suggest being on the ball to make sure you're getting your order in and being proactive to get your check when you're ready to cash out.

first off, i don't think this is an assurance from the students that they will abstain from ragging their juniors so much as it is a tool to bury, minus any legal hassles, students who do get caught in the act of said ragging.

secondly, i must say that i don't quite get the point of getting undertakings from the parents of the students. what are the parents expected to do to stop their wards from ragging juniors? use mind-control? how useless can an undertaking get? what will parents be asked to do next? give assurances that their children will follow traffic rules? oh! wait; IITM is already doing that - the 'no-motor-vehicles' rule. the sheer inanity of it... geez!

come to think of it, what on earth does IIT have to do with parents of its students? why, for example does IIT require branch-change or dual-degree-transfer forms to be signed by parents of the applicants? how does IIT have any responsibility towards the parents of its students? how are the parents of IITians responsible to IIT?

if IIT isn't doing this because it is responsible to the parents, how incapacitated does IITM think its students are? are the 'best' students of the country not good enough to decide what branch they should be in? or have the ethics of a chameleon? (although i would probably forgive IITM for the last one)

the best that can be said of this practice is that it is archaic. how i hope we moved out of the nineteenth century!

Akhirnya saya menggunakan lab keilmuan yang ada di kampus sebagai sarana untuk mengerjakan TA. Berhubung belum pernah ngurus perijinannya saya datang ke kampus cukup dengan modal nekat saja :D. Untung saya bertemu dengan pak soleh -orang yang paling rajin di departemen, karena datang paling awal dan pulang paling akhir-, kemudian beliau menginstruksikan saya untuk mengisi log book penggunaan lab dan meninggalkan KTM di sana. Yiipiee, semudah itukah? nice...

Departemen memiliki 3(tiga) lab keilmuan, dari ketiga lab tersebut saya termasuk ke dalam lab keilmuan yang ke tiga yaitu SEiS. Lab SEiS terletak di lantai 5 dan berada pada ruangan nomor dua dari ujung lantai. Hampir semua ruangan di departemen dilengkapi dengan AC, begitu juga dengan masing-masing lab di lantai 6. Namun sangat disayangkan tepat di lab SEiS AC tidak dapat difungsikan dengan baik sehingga saya kalau ngelab hanya menggunakan AC(angin cepoi-cepoi) :D. Hiks.. menyedihkan memang, terlebih lagi saya belum tahu harus berapa lama lagi menggunakan lab tersebut karena kepulangan laptop ke ibu pertiwi belum jelas...hiks -ya.. anggap saja mandi sauna, lumayan buat nurunin berat badan ngeluarn keringat :D -

Neste domingo (20), a partir das 13h, vão ser aplicadas em São Luís e mais 18 municípios do Maranhão as provas da primeira etapa do Processo Seletivo de Acesso à Educação Superior (PAES 2008) da Universidade Estadual do Maranhão (UEMA). 

Para fazer a prova, o candidato deve levar a ficha de comprovação de inscrição disponível no site www.vestibular.uema.br e anexar a ela uma foto 3x4, além dos documentos pessoais.

Cerca de 29 mil candidatos estão concorrendo neste seletivo. A UEMA está oferecendo um total de 2.685 vagas, distribuídas nos mais de 20 cursos da instituição.

Aviso que saque la lista con un script automático (era muy larga comparar las bases de datos de ambos campuses) así que podría haber errores. Aun así creo que es bastante significativa la diferencia de material con el que contamos.

Mandé un mensaje a los responsables de la biblioteca para saber como deciden incluir o no una base de datos. Espero tener una respuesta pronto para compartirla con ustedes.

Recuerda que siempre puedes acudir con la biblioteca para preguntarles tu o puedes venir con un miembro de SATIES para que podamos ayudarte.
