Having talked to OBP for some time about why we might want to go medium format (rather than just 35m

Having talked to OBP for some time about why we might want to go medium format (rather than just 35mm film) he's been looking at cameras for me.

Although I think he would like a more advanced camera, he will have medium format available to him when his old TLR (given to him by a relative who use it to photograph Hong Kong in the 1950's) comes back from being repaired. I don't have that option though.

I have to be honest but I didn't even realise that there were such things as medium and large format photography. I rarely see anyone using a camera that doesn't look other than either a relatively modern film camera or digital compact or SLR.

This despite working in an area with fine art photographers and being responsible for signing off purchases for their Hasselblads, etc. I just presumed they were superior 35mm or digital cameras!

Anyway, OBP's research on my behalf threw up some interesting questions about what's important to me in terms of the camera I use.

Having been converted back to the joy of film, I was happy about a more advanced film camera. I am also more aware of print quality issues now because of the impending exhibition. I was reticent though about having to go fully manual and perhaps not having the kinds of light metering available that I've grown used to on the digital cameras and the recent 2nd hand 35mm.

The discussion centrered on; ease of use (handheld v need for a tripod), including size and weight, auto focus, interchangeable lenses, aperture priority options, in camera metering, price and a general conversation about the real benefits I might expect from this as opposed to 35mm or indeed my digital SLR.

Having spent some time in galleries and looking at prints for sale in London recently I would say I can see a definite quality benefit for medium format. Pictures are sharper, crisper, seeming to have greater depth. That's the case at either an A5-equivalent size print or at A3+.

So, OBP dispaired of finding something that met all the constraints. He told me I was expecting too much. But, then yesterday, he thinks he's found the ideal camera. Perfect for hand-held being designed as a way to help SLR users transition to medium format, has almost all the characteristics I wanted, and doesn't cost a fortune.

I'm asking some questions of the seller (a photography company in Scotland dealing online) but I may be the proud owner of it yet!

I carried on the Photoshop antics today as well, creating a cucumber with legs running across a road - not very realistic, I know, but fun to make! I'll post it up on Flickr later (see previous post for link). In fact, I'll post it here as well. I also have more tutorial-like videos like Bert Monroy for you: Photoshop User TV, The Russell Brown Show and Photoshop Killer Tips [iTunes Links].

I had a bit of a break today, though. We went to the Lewes Horticultural Show (or something to that effect) to take some photos for the newsletter or magazine that they want to produce with them. I would post some of them, but I don't have my camera cable with me. You can see them another day.

so i took Lumix (my camera) into The Shop four-and-a-half weeks ago, and ever since, i've been coping with separation anxiety.

i adore this camera. i'm not the kind of person who sends her marred graduation gifts into The Shop every day, but i was hoping to revive it, give it new life!

being the second and most-capable camera i've ever owned, Lumix has a special place in my heart. he's been with me since senior prom, capturing colorful gowns and beautiful smiles with a handy little flash that doesn't "wash out" fair skin (amen!). he was with me in k'auai, venturing through secret beach trails and freezing perfectly-exposed frames of the north shore on morning katamaran rides. he's been with me ever since i started at cal poly, blessing me with the most crisp & up-close photos of my projects.

so a month without Lumix around has been kind of depressing. during Dale's wedding, i defaulted to Karly's canon whatever shot thing, and as I sat near that beautifully-lit alter i sighed, "what a shame."

Problem is, you're impatient, we're impatient, and frankly, we'd like this stuff now. Chinese firm Lensas has the solution to the pollution, though: meet the F2218, quite possibly the orangest 8 megapixel candybar on the market today. There's even a xenon flash in there, too, and from the looks of the sample shots on PConline's review, the whole package does alright for itself. Of course, without some incredibly fast network (say, TD-SCDMA) to back it up it gets a little tricky to effectively get those massive shots back and forth, but it's a start -- and in a reversal of roles, it's the big guys who'll be doing the copying come next year. [Source] Unwired View

I was very surprised! Almost a year ago, I accidently set my camera on a chair. Forgetting, I sat on it! Just as I was sitting down and felt something odd...I realized it was not a good thing, but it was too late! My rear end cracked the LCD screen.

I eventually got around to figuring out how to get it fixed. They estimated it would cost about $130 US dollars.

I took my time deciding if I wanted to repair it or put the money towards a new camera. I mean digital cameras are cheap, even though I spent more than than average on this camera!

I decided to finally get the camera repaired when I noticed my decline in picture taking this year. I also have an underwater housing for the camera which is actually quite a lot of fun! Not to mention that I really like the camera, it takes amazing pictures!

Enclosed with the camera was a very short note asking for the Canon Factory Service Center to call me with estimate for repairs so I could pay them.

They returned the camera back to me and never called! I was a bit surprised, thinking I had done something wrong. Canon included with the camera a repair letter which contained:

The service on your equipment has been completed. As part of Canon's commitment to its customers, you can be assured that your equipment has been returned to Factory Specifications.
Total Due $0.00

They never charged me a thing! They replaced the LCD because I am a valuable Canon customer?!? Huh?

I am still quite surprised. I almost feel guilty accepting this! What companies can you name would do such a repair for free that clearly was the fault of the customer?!?

Save $31 on the Nikon D40 (Body Only) at Amazon.com…
Interested in buying the slick Nikon D40

Save $31 on the Nikon D40 (Body Only) at Amazon.com...

Interested in buying the slick Nikon D40 body only camera? If you read this article before you buy, you can find out a few things you may want to know before buying...

What are the pros? For starters, the Nikon D40 body only has a superb 10.2 megapixel sensor. Anymore in the megapixels and it becomes some what unnecessary. Anything less - you lose some on the quality side. A pretty great characteristic of the camera is also the compact size and weight of the camera. This is perfect for snap shooting and quick altercations

A cool feature of the Nikon D40x body only is the in-camera features such as black/white effect, sepia look and a few other cool photo editing features.

What else? Again, for starters, the no-shutter-lag is totally awesome! With the addition of instant-onand the slick auto-focus, the D40 and D40x are just phenomenal cameras!

To continue, the battery life on the Nikon D40 body only camera is near perfect. You can take 500 plus pictures with flash, or even 1,000 pictures without flash. Extremely frustrating, having a battery dying on you is just a bad, bad experience.

What's bad to say about the Nikon D40x body only? The first "bad" think is the Nikon D40x body only is very small. If you have big hands, this could be a problem. You also are not able to change the WB settings with one button and the LCD screen is not on the very top of the camera.

In a nutshell:

Buying the Nikon D40 body only will definitely be a wise choice, as it's one of the best cameras out there for that price range. However, the D40x is my personal favorite, with the D40 closely in second.

Save 5% on the Nikon D40x (Body Only) at Amazon.com...

It had rained a lot the whole night, and was coupled with a strong wind that just fell a bit short of being called a storm. As such, Saturday morning was very cool, opposed to the hot September mornings we had become used to. I prepared a nice hot cup of Masala Tea, and was was tattering away at my laptop's keyboard, while sipping it. Just then, it happened. Power failure. So much for the lovely morning.

Hot that it was not, I finished my tea, read the newspaper, and strolled towards my balcony, only to find that there was a lot of ruckus going on in the neighborhood. And to just let you know, my neighborhood is a lots of pigeons. Hundreds and thousands of them.

And the reason behind this was a nasty visit from a flock of beaked eagles. Aditya you can perhaps help me pin these birds to their exact name (One of my readers tells me that they are black kites, but googling on the subject has broadened my choices to four species: black kite, indian spotted eagle, greater spotted eagle and lesser spotted eagle). In the meanwhile, I shall continue the story. While all the eagles were busy in action, two of them were lazily perched on the building roof opposite to my balcony. Seemed as if they had their full. Poor neighbors.

I immediately grabbed my pristine Olympus FE-15 auto focus digicam and started taking a few shots. The results were not quite good, as the distance was very large, and my digicam has just a tiny 3X zoom. So I brought my Bushnell binocular, manually adjusted its focus and placed the digicam behind the binocular to get some zoomed in shots. And I must admit that the shots weer pretty neat and had a modest detail. Have a look!!

The two of them captured without the binocular:

All shots focused on the right birdie zoomed in with help of my binocular:

You can catch all the photos here. Not all are of excellent quality, but seem pretty modest, given they were taken by manually coupling a binocular and a party purpose digital camera. Enjoy.

I am unsure what path my future will take… where will I go, what will I do? My camcorder/edi

I am unsure what path my future will take... where will I go, what will I do? My camcorder/editing situation is not at it's brightest, and I am heavily considering returning the camcorder, the JVC Everio GZ-HD7, because it shoots to HD and saves to .tod. Premiere Pro 1.0, my current NLE, is less than desirable as well, because I have had a/v out of sync troubles with it. Who knows what will be the solution? God does.

A friend recommended this camera (the friend was joking btw,)

Check out the RED camera:
http://www.red.com/cameras

I have looked into Final Cut Pro as well, (or Final Cut Studio,) and it looks promising. But I have not done all my research. I am pretty sure I can convert my files through Cyberlink BD solution, with PowerDirector, to FullHD, HD SP, or SD (720x480.) So, converting with HD is possible, but editing is still a problem. So, the different problems stack on eachother and the tower of cards falls again and again as I pull out a card from the below.

So, with all these options, ideas, hopes, possibilities - my future - and other's desires, I am swirling in an ocean of choices, hoping to find my way out. Oh God, send an albatross.

Who knows what will happen next? I ask for your prayer, and I look foward to the days when I will be holding the camcorder in hand, acting and filming with others, editing, premiering, posting...

God bless and thanks for listening.

-b

P.S. I do not ask for sympathy. I do not ask for donations. I do not require your help. I humbly request prayer and understanding, and greatly appreciate any suggestions or ideas you have to give. Thanks.

[caption id="attachment_377" align="aligncenter" width="400" caption="Google Chrome Elements"][/caption]

In English | En español

We still don’t know what it represents specifically, but, does it remind you of some things? Well, the most obvious reference is the colors. It has 4 different colors, just like the letters in the Google logo: blue, red, yellow and green. Where else do you see them? The game Simon has them, even the general shape, but Chrome’s icon has a more modern look. There are three surrounding colors instead of 4, plus the main circle in the center. A circle has 360 degrees, as circular as the Firefox logo. Google borrowed source code from the creators of Mozilla Firefox. Chrome will also add the ability to use Firefox’s add-ons in the near future.

Now, why does it look like a Pokéball? Ash (Satoshi in Japan) and Google have something in common. Ash’s famous slogan can perhaps explain Google’s goals: Gotta catch’em all. The competition between Google against Microsoft and Yahoo in many different areas is a sign of how powerful the company currently is and wants to be. Besides the search engines, they have instant messengers, e-mails, blogs, video-sharing sites, photo storage, maps, etc. The competition doesn’t seem to end. Last but not least is the webcam. Google may not look at us through our webcams, but it can look at everything we do in their sites and their affiliates’. At least, they protect the users’ privacy more than its competitors do, it seems.

Source : Google Blogoscoped [http://blogoscoped.com/archive/2008-09-04-n21.html].

En español | In English
