Airport ‘06
What if you were a mid-level professional whose dad was Hannibal Lecter in Manhunter (

Airport ‘06

What if you were a mid-level professional whose dad was Hannibal Lecter in Manhunter (The Good Hannibal Lecter Movie) and were trapped next to a loony on an aeroplane in the cheap seats played by Cillian Murphy who was the Scarecrow in Batman Begins?

This is what budget airlines are doing for us and the economy.

The Story:

A woman who isn’t Jennifer Garner from Alias but is in The Wedding Crashers gets on a plane after having a quick vodka and pineapple (or grapefruit juice: it’s not that important) and sits down next to Cillian Murphy from 28 Days Later (this is a Red Eye link, isn’t it?) who threatens to kill Brian Cox from The Bourne Identity (or Supremacy or Ultimatum) but is pretty piss poor as a bad guy. She is no Elektra, but manages to beat him one-on-one, knee-cap by knee-cap in her dad’s crib. Which is undergoing renovation or decorating work. Like American Pie 2. Her best friend is the Waitress from Heroes who Died Too Soon.

The Good:

Surprising headbutt to she who was not in 13 Going On 30. See budget airline reference, above.

Pencil stab to neck, reducing Cillian Murphy from Sunshine to Weezy the Penguin from Toy Story 2.

Good illustration of airline safety regarding the use of mobile handsets and electronic equipment.

The Bad:

As noted above, with emphasis: She is not Elektra from Daredevil.

V. poor airline security at the arrival airport which means one can just run really fast to get past all the armed guys in a post 9-11 world. Only in America.

A lacksadaisical approach to decorating, resulting in many slips, trips and falls.

The Verdict:

15 Pigs total. This was no Nightmare at 20,000 Feet. A William Shatner from Airplane 2 The Sequel cameo would have only bettered the score.

july 17, 2008 the difference between a fad and a trend: a fad is a small-scale, short-term event, while a trend has duration and leaks to mainstream (kudos to the wikitionary). an obvious trend in baroque-style floral and chandelier patterns, damask, lace, scroll designs, and concepts alike appear more often than ever in fashion as well as interior design. the cameo emblem seems next in line - photo from martha stewart (the trendsetting genius) - and im sure we'll be spotting it in mainstream soon enough.

Across the Universe (2007)
Directed by: Julie Taymor
Starring: Evan Rachel Wood, Jim Sturgess, Joe A

Across the Universe (2007)
Directed by: Julie Taymor
Starring: Evan Rachel Wood, Jim Sturgess, Joe Anderson
Rated: PG-13
Runtime: 133mins

Julie Taymor delivers a visually stunning film that's a treat for both the eyes and the ears. Situated in the 60's, Beatles songs are incorporated into a movie to help enhance the telling of a love story admidst the historic events of the era. Jude (Jim Sturgess) is a young man from Liverpool, England who arrives in America seeking his absentee father. He finds him as well as a new friend, Max (Joe Anderson). Max is a free spirit stifled by his rich family expectations and after a heated Thanksgiving, he and Jude head to New York City. When Max's sister, Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood), comes for a visit, her and Jude embark on a relationship that is tested by the times.

Just to make it clear, this is a musical. Think "Moulin Rouge" over "The Sound of Music", though. The songs used receive a revamp and are paired with spectacular scenes; the two really compliment and bring each other to life. All the characters have great voices and don't feel like they are just re-iterating a song. They put good emotion into their voices. I really enjoyed Jim Sturgess's performance and was surprised by Evan Rachel Wood. Though I suppose it shouldn't be too much of a surprise as a good number of actors out there can sing; they just don't usually get to do so unless they try to do a dual career.

Taymor tries to bring out the psychadelic nature of the 60's and does a fabulous job. There are very strange and surreal moments all throughout the movie, such as the scene when Max answers his draft call, during "I am the Walrus" and during the circus segment with Eddie Izzard. Vivid colors, visual special effects, camera work that makes the movie feel more like a music video, all this combines to make the viewer feel like he/she is on a trip. Taymor also a great job in using the visuals to convey the perspective and emotions running through the characters and reflecting the general social opinion of that era.

Bono's cameo was quite impressive. I have to say he does a fantastic job at faking an American accent, acting and, of course, singing.

Overall, I loved this movie. I liked the characters and actually cared about what happened to them. I loved the music, the visuals, everything. It did get a little too weird for me in some places but I was still engrossed. The circus scene with Eddie Izzard as a ring master was a bit creepy, mainly because I'm not a big circus person; clowns freak me out (thank you Stephen King's "It").

Go out today and rent it, preferably in Blu-ray as it deserves to be seen in the highest quality possible.

GROWING PAINS

There is danger in thinking of new things in old ways. There is danger in thinking of old things that have new applications in the old way. Thirty years ago some people still used old tube radios. My father used to go out to his workroom every night and tune in a country radio station broadcasting out of Bakersfield California. He could only pick the signal up at night. People talked constantly on citizen band radio and listened to the world on short wave radios. Most everyone owned a scanner and listened to the various police bands. The police back then spoke in the clear (without code) and everyone with a scanner knew who the police stopped and where the domestic squabbles were.

When did radio become a secure and protected form of communication? I remember picking up phone conversations on my scanner. The most memorable conversation was between a lady and her mother. The lady had proof that her husband was cheating. She explained to her mother that she had drained their joint bank accounts. With all her husbands’ credit cards in hand she was joining up with her mother to go on a shopping spree to max them out. The lady probably heard her husband talking to his significant other on her own scanner.

The point is that a cell phone is a radio. Our mistake is that we still talk on it like the signal goes through wires rather then broadcasted into space. Once broadcast, no one can claim sole possession of the signal; it belongs to the universe. Actually, the signal becomes available to the rest of the world. Since when has the hobby of tuning in and listening to radio signals been against the law? Does calling a radio transmitter a phone give the radio signal special rights? It seems impossible to demand privacy when making radio broadcasts.

When the government listens in we call it electronic surveillance. To call electronic surveillance wire tapping is like calling changing your tire-shoeing your horse. The government may not listen in to domestic communications but we think nothing of them monitoring foreign communications. What is keeping foreign nations from monitoring us? We are a foreign nation from their perspective.

We have all heard of industrial espionage. The NSA is a government agency. It is common knowledge that government projects go to the lowest bidder. Anything that the government can do the private sector can do better. I bet that they can even keep a secret. How many industrial secrets have been lost simply because an executive, engineer, or researcher does not think “radio” when talking on a cell phone? Just because we call it: phone, does not mean that the signal is securely contained in a wire. If you think that the signal broadcast from your cell phone is too sophisticated to monitor how is it that you can call any phone number in the world and have your call answered? What ever is scrambled must be unscrambled.

There is always a trade off in everything we do. If we shop at a convenience store we will pay higher prices then if we go to a grocery store. Cell phones are very convenient and inexpensive because cell phones are radios. The cell phone user doesn’t have to pay for miles of wire and telephone poles and their upkeep. The cell phone user also gives up the security of wire and with it the legal enforceable protection against wire tapping. A foreign nation or business would have to physically enter the United States to wire tap a land line.

The things we said on our cell phone fifteen years ago are now fifteen light-years away and still going. I imagine that they are spreading out and mixing with other cell phone signals. Eventually the signals will all blend together and become space noise. Somewhere in the galaxy there may be other intelligent beings also searching for evidence of intelligent life in the universe. Eventually, what you say on your cell phone will be secure when one far off alien says, “Have you found any intelligent life in the universe?” and the other replies, “No, only the same old space noise.” On the other hand they may say, “You go girl. Spend all his money!”

This is actually an OLD (and perhaps) never posted blog I found while cleaning out my "My Documents" folder. It's an oldie but goodie...

The IRON CHEF MIX CHALLENGE!

Concept: Make something beautiful out of something baffling

Background: Owning an iPod seems to be a necessity these days, and, if your friend has a 600-gig iPod of music plugged directly into their car stereo, it can make road-trips torture. Fortunately most drivers are willing to pass their iPod around so passengers can take advantage of the Gigantor iPod Saving Grace: The On-The-Go Playlist. Regardless of their 'pod contents; dated tastes, odd music fetishes, the Creed catalog, it's actually fun to try to make a bumpin' bouillbesse out of an iPod full of stinky fish guts.

The challenge: Take your friends' iPod (the stranger taste in music the better) and make of it a thing of mixtape beauty. The glory being, it’s THEIR musical palate through your tune choices put up against the car’s collective ear drums.

---

My pal, who shall forever remain nameless* has a particular brand of musical torture – a hilariously "eclectic” iPod. Here's a quick list of music I heard on recent road trips; Big & Rich, Snap!, The Back To the Future soundtrack, O.A.R., Dave Matthews Band, 311, Garden State, John Mayer Trio, and of course the aforementioned Creed.

I gladly took up their offer to put together a playlist, and I think I did alright. This is all from memory, but it went with something like:

Phil Collins, “In The Air Tonight” (which was labeled as "Genesis - 'feel it coming in the air of tonight' ”)

Chicago, “Does Anyone Really Know What Time It Is?”

Survivor (Ides of March), “Vehicle”

Cameo, “Word Up”

Kanye West, “Keep Em High”

Jurassic 5, “Freedom”

Cardigans, “Lovefool”

Deee-Lite, "Groove is in the Heart"

Nickelcreek, “Spit On a Stranger”

John Mayer, "Kid A" (Radiohead Cover)

Rod Stewart, “Maggie May”

Spoon, "You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb"

Coldplay, “Green Eyes”

Dave Matthews Band, “Spoon”

Phish, “You Enjoy Myself”

Flaming Lips, "Bad Days"

Let's hear your O.T.G. Playlist successes!

*Person may, as a narrative tool, be a combination of a number of people I know.

What’s my criteria for this selection? My primary subconscious reasoning (I realised, after th

What's my criteria for this selection? My primary subconscious reasoning (I realised, after the fact) is that these are songs that can be covered by a hard rock band without a trace of irony and still rock a jaded anti-pop crowd. Plus they have a killer riff or vocal melody that incites: a) a fist pump, b) a head nod/mosh or c) a finger snap <--- just kidding about that last one...

Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams

No need to dwell on this one - the song is trotted out on a regular basis to pimp everything from hair-gel to David Attenborough's latest documentary on the mating rituals of african bees: it's a perennial classic. The warm, pulsing analogue synth that forms the instantly recognisable main riff gives this tune balls and could make a black metal crowd break out in a frenzied mosh.

Manson's gutter reimagining proves the song's rock-worthiness but I've gone with a remix by dutch D&B legends Noisia called "Street Dreams". Before you click away from it, at least stick around until the vocals kick in at 1:30 with a criminally phat stomping break-beat that'd make a break dancer's corpse twitch.

Cameo - Word Up

My personal favourite of the lot - and I don't think anyone's quite nailed the ideal cover yet. The main riff in the song is a classic rock stomper hidden under funk/R&B trappings - a simple three chord power riff over a driving rock beat.

Gun's version included below proves the point and is the better rock cover imo - I think Korn's version, while good, just misses... (and let's not even talk about Melanie B's version "...which was the lowest selling Spice Girls-related single of the 1990s" and just plain crap >_<. Timbo - what were you thinking?? ;_; )

INXS - Need You Tonight

This song is quite pop - I can't really see Disturbed covering it but hey, they covered Tears For Fears so what do I know... Justin Timberlake and Matchbox 20 cover it - and both versions sound great; the quality of the clips ain't so hot though, hence no embed. Included here instead is a rare acoustic version by INXS with Hutchence on vox.

Pop or not, the guitar riff is a jangly killer that's immediately recognisable, singable, and could even get your grandmother air-strumming on the dance floor. You only have to hear those first three sharp chords over the beat: dun! dun! dun! - and you can't stop the last part from ringing in your head: dunnalunnalunnalunnun! <-- Sak Mo Dee's patented "rock guitar speak". Go on, try not to think of it.

Talking Heads - Burning Down The House

I've already posted the Cardigans + Tom Jones cover of this - not a favourite... Quirkmeister David Byrne is not the first person you think of when it comes to phat, manly rock but this tune has a simple, driving riff that lends itself well to rock cover-age (Michael Hutchence isn't the manliest rock god either, for that matter, but his sex appeal bought him some phat points ;-).

Toby Rand's performance on Rock Star Supernova was a bit of a poser festival but if it makes Jason Newsted pull his metal face and bob his head it can't be too bad.

Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus

Since Marilyn Manson missed out on the Sweet Dreams cover here he is/they are performing yet another cover live (well, it was either them or Hillary Duff...)

Depeche Mode's classic song has a marching rhythm and memorable broken line delivery that cements the first line in your head. I'm also seeing a common thread in a few of these songs of deep, dark analogue synths driving a moody bass riff through the proceedings :).

Honourable Mention

Shameless Self-Serving Inclusion: Nine Inch Nails - Terrible Lie

I have no excuse for including this except to say that it's a personal favourite and "Pretty Hate Machine" was released in 89 so it makes it in as an Honourable Mention xD.

Like "Sweet Dreams" the major component of this song is the deep, phat, warm analogue synth of the chorus that could go up against a Metallica riff for pure rock phatness. (Totally Unrelated Note: speaking of Metallica phatness - have you seen this clip of Nickelback playing well outside their Macho Level?)

How wrong am I? Surely someone's dying to lambast me for missing an obvious 80s rock-cover-in-waiting? xD If I get any suggestions that demand inclusion I'll update the post :).

Thanks P Dogg for the Personal Jesus suggestion xD.

Y'know what? I'll tell ya what.. I enjoy a good movie. and I've been wanting to watch see Pink Floyd's "the wall" pretty much my whole life but friends and others always told me its disturbing and just not good. Well tonight I am happy to say I can scratch yet another classic off my list..

Sure the wall is boring at times, but its scored beautifully and this type of film direction is totally my style. Its creepy and nearly everything is meant to mean something yet at the same time mean something else, not to mention it makes you feel like your on drugs. I would not reccomend watching this movie on drugs, I would also not reccommend this movie to small children. with that said I loved it!

so In an attempt to catch up on all the great movies behold the new netflix account!
add me as a friend! ..wait netflix is actually ridding the site of all its member profiles (who needs em anyway right)

why was netflix even trying to be social? isn't that what social network apps are for? get with it!

anyways im looking for reccomendations now, I'm into horror flicks and comedies. I love watching documentaries and a handful of dramas. love the indie wes anderson style and epic speildbergs, hate movies with unececcary cameos, unconvincing premises and bad story telling. most new studio pictures suck! any suggestions?

favorite movie of all time is full metal jacket

Another great movie has arrived! Just to warn you up front, there is nothing after the credits of this film. Don't waste your time! :-)

First off, Edward Norton plays a wonderful Bruce Banner! He's a believable scientist that always leaves you wanting more! And while we're on the subject of good actors, Tim Roth also does a pretty good job. Some of the scenes Roth are in are awesome!

The effects in this movie are all really well done. Scenes where the Hulk rips a car in half or jumps from building to building all look real. Well, as real as a giant green monster in the middle of a city could look anyway. :-) Also, it's always nice to see a comic based movie where the protagonist doesn't win with one hit. (Ex: Ghost Rider) The battle between Hulk and the Abomination is awesome! When you hear the wondrous words "Hulk Smash!" I can guarantee you you'll grin. (Or at least if you're a comic book fan anyway.)

There are a few scenes where only Hulk fans will get what's really going on. For example there is an awesome scene with Lou Ferringo who played the Hulk in the TV series. You will also see the birth of The Leader and be one of the few to again really appreciate "Hulk Smash". Also, there is the usual Stan Lee cameo.

Maybe I'm alone here, but I'm getting really tired of the Lee cameos. It was cool the first time or two, but now it's just like a bad old joke. In this movie his cameo is a bit bigger roll as the "incident" he is involved in actually affects the storyline. With even more Marvel movies to come, (there is another huge hint at The Avengers movie in this film) I anticipate them to keep getting dumber.

Either though this movie was good, I couldn't help but feel like it was all done before. To me, there have been so many comic book movies that they are all starting to seem the same. Especially in this film when Stark is seen and mentioned numerous times. It was obvious they were leeching off some of the success of Iron Man and are probably going to do the same with other hero movies until The Avengers is released. In the end, I suppose there really isn't much choice in comic book adapted movies. There always has to be innocents in danger, small battles, then one final big bad dude that usually switches sides.

Anyway, these are very minor annoyances and this film should definitely still be seen by everyone! While, in my opinion, it's not as good as Iron Man, it still shows this summer has awesome movie potentials. I'm not sure what to expect from Get Smart and The Wanted, but I truly hope The Dark Knight lives up to my high expectations!

The Good

Great Actors

Awesome Actions Scenes

Great effects/CG

The Bad

Stan Lee appearances are getting a little old

Formula seems familiar and done before

Final Grade: A-

Britney Spears Looks ‘Hot And Blonde’ In Pussycat Dolls’ ‘When I Grow Up

Britney Spears Looks 'Hot And Blonde' In Pussycat Dolls' 'When I Grow Up' Video: Report

'When [Britney] saw them on the MTV [Movie Awards], she was totally down to do the video,' source says.

First, "How I Met Your Mother" — now, the Pussycat Dolls.

Her albums might not sell the way they used to, but Britney Spears is turning into the queen of the red-hot cameo. According to People magazine, Brit filmed a bit part in the video for the Pussycat Dolls' "When I Grow Up" clip.

An unnamed source told the magazine that Spears had a "small part" in the video, which was shot Wednesday in Los Angeles. A "set source" told UsMagazine.com that Spears does not interact with the group in the video, and shot her scenes at the Warner Bros. lot Wednesday while the Dolls filmed in Hollywood. "In the scene shot [Wednesday], Britney is driving in a car," the source said. "They all wave at each other as they are passing in traffic — that is it. Of course, Britney looks hot and blonde. It is a very short sequence, but [Britney] had a lot of fun with it. Britney really likes the Dolls' music and when she saw them on the MTV [Movie Awards], she was totally down to do the video."

Spokespeople for Spears and the Dolls could not be reached for comment at press time.

Coming on the heels of her two-episode arc on "How I Met Your Mother," the Dolls shoot represents Spears' latest attempt to ease back into the spotlight, after spending much of the past year dealing with a series of personal crises. In fact, her second appearance on the sitcom went so well that onetime Brit doubter Neil Patrick Harris recently told People that "the door is open for her" to come back for a third go-round.

After a sizzling performance of "When I Grow Up" at the MTV Movie Awards last weekend, we'll be seeing plenty of PCD in the upcoming weeks. They'll appear on the June 12 episode of "So You Think You Can Dance," and the video for "When I Grow Up" will premiere on the new MTV video show "F'N MTV," which is hosted by Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz, on the 13th.

According to a source at their label, PCD's yet-untitled second album, featuring production from Timbaland, Rodney Jerkins and Sean Garrett, will be out in September.

Arqueòleg- A veure!

AND THE WINNER IS...
