Microsoft is playing catchup with Google and entering the Cloud Computing space. Here is what CEO Steve Balmer had to say about it:

“We need a new operating system designed for the cloud and we will introduce one in about four weeks, we’ll even have a name to give you by then. But let’s just call it, for the purposes of today, Windows Cloud.”

...

“Just like Windows Server looked a lot like Windows but with new properties, new characteristics and new features, so will Windows Cloud look a lot like Windows Server.”

...

"We’re not driving an agenda towards being service providers, but we’ve gotta build a service that is Windows in the cloud."

Microsoft probably feeds the need to respond to Google's new browser, Chrome. What I'm hearing about Chrome is that isn't so much as a entry into the browser market, but a platform for more robust "cloud" based apps such as Google Documents.

One of the exisiting theories is that Chrome is the first componet of a Google OS. Chrome is supposed to be the interface to the applications. If you look under the hood of Chrome, it is built more like an OS than a browser.

All it will need is a thin layer to access the hardware (boot, and then interface with video/storage/audio/periferal I/O(USB for a start)/network interfaces) and it's pretty much good to go.

This would a thin client model with most of the applications out in the cloud, and as much of the data as well.

It seems that Microsoft is taking this serious enough to announce their own cloud base computing plan.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Quick.as is an awesome creation. It allows the user to create an all-inclusive single homepage that meets their mobile and static computational needs.

With the explosion of mobile web usage, users have become frustrated with the “walled garden search parameters” that the mobile networks have setup - but with the arrival of Quick. As users are better able to refine their key 'search' and 'link' parameters and consolidate their strategic browsing experience.

Quick.as allows you to design/create your own homepage and take it with you wherever you go. Once created - this 'personal portal' can be accessed from your home computer, laptop or mobile phone, and is automatically optimized for the device you are using (e.g. iphone.ebay.com for an iPhone and m.ebay.com for a RAZR, etc.). Learn more from the inventor himself - Raef Akehurst or read the latest blog posting

Put simply, Quick. As satisfies all your searching and key bookmarking feeds in one place to enhance browsing productivity, facilitate search and improve mobile device efficiency. In fact the website provides a lifetime guarantee that using this browser will add 15 days to your life (based on a complex mathematical algorithm)

If after your lifetime has ended and you have calculated that you have not saved 15 days, please contact us in person and we would be delighted to give you your money back

Quick.as is really simple to use as defined by this simple video

Quick Search - Search the common 'search sites' in one simple seach bar. Users choose the sites to search with a drop-down menu or simple keyboard shortcut. e.g. “gm Four Seasons Hotel” will search Google Maps for the the Four Seasons Hotel). All common 'specialist sites' (and some less common) are used in the search menu e.g. Amazon, eBay, Google and Wikipedia

Quick Links - A list of your most visited sites (destination sites) are automatically detected from browsing history, or can be customized - like favorites/bookmarks. They can be accessed via keyboard shortcuts or clicking on links.

Performing a "Quick Search" or clicking a "Quick Link" will take you through to a version of the site optimized for the device you are using. Quick. As automatically detects that you are using a mobile device (if not go to m.quick.as) - and provides solutions for the common hurdles users face when using a mobile device to browse the web such as

Difficulty typing on small device (use the simple keyboard shortcuts/drop-down menu)

Hard to remember mobile optimized URLs e.g. mobile.example.com; m.example.com, example.com/m, etc.)

Inconsistent browsing platforms (creates uniform search platform)

Walled garden of services/sites/portals - Quick. As is totally customizable and independent

If you have an iPhone or an iPod Touch Quick. As detects this and automatically delivers the iPhone/iPod Touch optimized version (go to i.quick.as if you are not on an iPhone/iPod). Enhanced iPhone features include automatic Google Map and YouTube app opening when performing a search pertaining to these sites. Sites that have been optimized for the iPhone and/or a "standard" mobile are marked with a star (★).

Quick.As is also Life Changing

If you are confused by problems life has thrown your way - just ask the magic 8 ball, or toss a coin. You can even use the highly advanced RPS (Rock-Paper-Scissors) system of decision making to give you peace of mind when challenging situations arise.

Enthused beyond belief? Thrilled to the core? Then sign in and register with Quick. As and add as your homepage, or add to iGoogle/Pageflakes.

Today on the IEBlog, they have announced IE8 Beta 2 is now available to download to everyone. IE8

Today on the IEBlog, they have announced IE8 Beta 2 is now available to download to everyone. IE8 Beta 2 works with the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Vista, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Server 2008. In Addition to just English, IE8 Beta 2 will also be available in Japanese, Chinese(Simplified), and German. Additional Languages will be available later on.

While Beta 1 was just for Developers. This second Beta of Internet Explorer 8 is more of a day-to day browsing version then a Developer Version.

Other then that little info that most of you guys won’t care. Here is the main stuff, Internet Explorer 8 basically gets a updated Makeover.

BASIC USABILITY

Every reviewer who looks at the new Smart Address Bar will no doubt compare it to the Awesome Bar in Firefox 3. And indeed, there’s a superficial similarity. As you begin typing in the Address bar, both browsers try to guess where you want to go, based on where you’ve previously been. The Firefox list starts with entries from your browsing history and then adds items from the Bookmarks folder. IE8’s Smart
Address list is more nuanced, displaying autocomplete suggestions, history items, and saved Favorites in lists that can be collapsed or expanded with a click.

One nice touch: Any entry that appears in the Smart Address Bar list can be deleted with a single click, making it easy to remove mistyped addresses and stale Favorites on the fly.

Tabbed browsing, a staple of other web browsers for years, made its belated appearance in IE7. In IE8, the tabbed browsing feature set is fully fleshed out, with menus and keyboard shortcuts you can use to duplicate a current tab (complete with its browsing history) or reopen a previously closed tab. The most interesting addition, one I haven’t seen in a competing browser, is the ability to automatically group tabs by their source. If you open a search page and then use the right-click menu to open new pages from the search results list, all pages share the same color code on the tab. Open a new page from a bookmark or by typing in the Address bar, and any pages you open from links on that page get a different color code. For devoted web searchers, it’s a great way to find specific pages even when dozens of tabs are open.

The trouble with tabbed browsing is that a single buggy page can wipe out all current tabs. Firefox has included crash recovery as a basic feature for several versions, but IE users previously had to graft this feature on with add-ons like IE7 Pro. No more. IE8 adds crash recovery as a core feature. The implementation is especially interesting in fact, because of another feature, called Tab Isolation. Because browser tabs (and the main browser window) run in separate processes, one crashed page has no effect on other tabs.

Although I wasn’t able to perform any detailed benchmarking, it appears that IE8 uses fewer resources than IE7 as well. I’ll perform some more controlled experiments later to see whether that initial observation is accurate.

SMARTER SEARCH

Because this is a beta release, I wasn’t able to exhaustively benchmark page-loading times. But I can say categorically that a handful of new search features saved me precious minutes while I was working on this post. Three in particular are worth calling out here.

First, the basic search box in the upper right corner of the browser window has been given some new smarts. As with earlier IE versions, you can add search providers to the default list provided my Microsoft. The icon at the left of the search box indicates the current default search provider, but a new row of icons appears beneath your entry when you start typing in the search box. That makes it easy to quickly choose a different search provider on the fly; previously, you had to choose a different provider from the drop-down list.

Even more interesting and useful are the additional search results that appear below the search box as you type. Items from your browsing history appear here by default, limited to five entries unless you choose to click the expand button. For search providers that support visual search, you can actually see thumbnail results on the ply, without having to run the search or open a new page. Both Wikipedia and Amazon currently support this feature, which cuts a significant amount of wasted time out of the search process.

And then there’s inline search, a staple of other browsers (another feature available in IE7 only with the help of add-ons). The IE8 implementation of the inline search bar appears below the tab list and works exactly as you’d expect.

ACCELERATORS AND SLICES

For years, Microsoft has been trying to make it easier to perform search-related tasks directly from a web page. (Remember Smart Tags, from IE4?) A new feature in IE8, called Accelerators, might actually deliver this promise. Accelerators are basically widgets that work on a web page selection or the contents of the Clipboard. The default selection, naturally, is weighted in favor of Microsoft’s Live services, but its major competitors and partners, including Google, Yahoo, Amazon, and eBay, are also on the initial list. I was able to quickly replace the Live Maps Accelerator with Google Maps and add an eBay option that finds auction items matching a highlighted term.

PRIVACY AND SECURITY

New in this build are a pair of privacy features designed to make it easier for you to maintain some level of privacy, both on your local computer and on the Internet:

InPrivate Browsing (more popularly known as “porn mode”) allows you to open a new browsing session where no record is kept of your travels. IE’s history and cache (Temporary Internet Files) remain untouched, cookies are stored in memory only, and no record is kept of form data or username/password combinations. When you exit the browser, all traces of the session vanish.

InPrivate Blocking is designed to eliminate information transfer between web pages you visit and third-party sites that provide content to those pages. The obvious target is large advertising networks that build detailed profiles of your browsing history from your history with dozens or hundreds of sites. The design is confusing, and I’ll need to spend more time with it before I can testify with confidence that it performs properly.

InPrivate browsing worked exactly as promised. To start, open a new tab and click the InPrivate Browsing link, or press Ctrl+Shift+P. In either case, your session opens in a new window, completely isolated from any regular browsing that you might be doing. Parents will be relieved to note that the feature can be disabled completely (and in fact is disabled by default if Parental Controls are turned on).

COMPATIBILITY

For the web developer community, the biggest news in IE8 is its promise of strict adherence to Internet standards. That’s both a blessing and a curse, it turns out, as some sites that were hand-coded to work with nonstandard behaviors in older IE versions have problems rendering in the default, standards-compliant IE8.

In the first beta, the alternative was unpleasant: switch to IE7 mode and restart the browser. IE8 implements a much more elegant solution, with a compatibility button at the right side of the address bar. The button is actually a toggle, and it only appears when a possible incompatibility is present. Clicking the Compatibility mode refreshes the page and displays a one-time balloon tip alerting you that the page is now in compatibility mode. Doing so also adds the domain to a list of sites that always use Compatibility mode. If you prefer to sidestep the headaches completely, you can set a global option to display all sites in Compatibility mode.

One final addition that webmasters will appreciate is a full-fledged developers toolkit that can be used to poke around in the code and design behind any page. Press F12 to see this tool as a free-standing window, or dock it below the current page. Similar tools were available as custom downloads from Microsoft for previous IE versions; this one is built into the browser from the get-go and will presumably be available in the final release as well.

All in all, this is an impressive beta release.

I recently ran across a new kid friendly way to browse the Internet. It's called KidZui and it's the Internet in a bite sized package for kids 3-12, or as they say it, "The Internet for Kids." One of the coolest things they do to keep your kids safe is that they have teachers and parents review sites to confirm they are safe to children to browse.

Now I don't have kids so I wasn't able to get a first hand test in, but here's what KidZui has to say:

Built just for kids, the revolutionary new KidZui browser makes surfing the Internet fun and engaging for kids from ages 3-12.

KidZui has all the sites and games your kids love and tons more. With the KidZui browser, you have access to over 600,000 websites, pictures and videos.

So if you're looking for a way a way to let your kids start browsing safely online checkout KidZui for yourself, and your kids! You may also want to check out two other browsers I wrote about in January, BumperCar (Mac) and KidRocket (XP+).

Sql injection

Lately I'm sick with Unwated Toolbar without any notification on my Firefox / IE.
Winamp, Install at their own for this unwanted toolbar, yes I know it's free, anyway please alert previously during installation.
My perspective, it's useless.

Why ?
Since Firefox & IE alredy equipped with similar button on the bar.
Why should I need to have both ?

Boa Noite;

Esses dias entrei no Firefox e levei uma surpresa. Meus Favoritos tinham sumidos.

bookmarks.html

bookmarks.html
.

Pronto! Agora é só reiniciar o Firefox. Todos os favoritos do “novo”
bookmarks.html

Fonte: br.mozdev.org

Firefox é excepcional!

Até a proxima!
