So, folks, I made it through a very long day. I was friend, candid wedding photographer, and "pseudo" wedding assistant for my lovely friend Tara for the day.

I've been in and to so many weddings that it felt natural being able to help out for the day. It was SOOOO hot out but we made it through the day without anyone melting... LOL

I arrived early and photographed the ladies getting all beautified at the salon, went back to Tara's parent's house and photographed everyone getting ready and quickly got ready myself. The official wedding photographer arrived and took his formal shots, I followed them to the church and I photographed as much of that as I could there, then we all headed to Spring Lake for formal bridal party and then a quick stop at Spring Lake beach for photos of just Tara & Adam.

After the formal photos we headed to the reception in a beautiful ballroom looking over the ocean. When the night ended I drove the bride and groom back to the hotel, we all gathered at the hotel bar, eventually got some sleep, and all met at 10am yesterday for a great breakfast in the hotel lobby.

I took about 1500 photos (not sure if that's the real total...I'm still counting *LOL*) They will me take forever to edit but I'll get it done!

This is my favorite of the day:

I couldn't help applying a texture. Thanks, Heather, for the original coloring underneath this texture.

When September 11th happened, I lived in North Carolina. It was the first semester in my three year MFA program in poetry, and I was in route to Coastal Carolina Community College. Basically, I adjuncted composition classes aboard Camp Lejeune. Anyhow, when I rolled into Jacksonville, traffic was backed up at the gates to both Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River. The gates were sealed, and the gate guards were armed with M-16s and shot guns. Needless to say, I didn't have class that day.

Still, it's interesting though, to think about differing reactions the attacks evoked. In the south, or at least my section of it, there was sadness and outrage. People openly talked about it, and the reactions could be characterized as "citizens concerned for their country." In New Jersey, it's a little bit different.

9/11 is not really spoken about much up here. To many, it's very personal, and it's very painful. The simple truth about Jersey is this: the further north you go, the more you're in the shadow of New York City. Basically, a LOT of people live in Jersey and commute to NYC. So, many people know somebody who either died there or at least witnessed the attacks. Still, it's interesting that, now and then, there's an open acknowledgement. I live in the north end of Brick, and to cross into Monmouth County, you cross over a bridge. For years, that bridge has been under construction, but it's nearing an end. As it turns out, the bridge is a 9/11 memorial, as well:

Right now, there are three of these Tower/Pentagon pillers. A fourth is currently being cast in concrete:

And on both sides of the bridge, these words have been set, repeating across the entire span:

Brielle wouldn't eat her tomato tonight. It was a small piece of tomato, about the size of my thumbnail. It was funny, she had a huge meltdown, but we stuck to our guns. She FINALLY ate it. She ate it after Lael and Lael's sister Jessica made it more interesting and fun (plus there was a cookie as a reward). The funny thing was that after she ate it, she ate her cookie, more of her taco, and then MORE tomatoes! What's up with that???? One little tomato was the end of the world, then she ate more and more. Kids are hilarious.

Then she got ice cream for the first time from the ice cream truck that comes through our neighborhood all the time. I was a little weirded out. :-) She loved it though. She picked out a Spongebob popsicle, and loved it. It was worth the 2 bucks.

Bryce has his first post-op appointment tomorrow morning at 9:20 at her pediatrician. We expect everything to go well. His incision is totally bandage free, and is looking very good. He's still very happy and back to normal.

Brielle had a little playdate tonight! She had some trouble sharing with Kennedy, but we're working on it. She's been the center of attention for awhile now, so we're having to "reteach" sharing. Thanks to Matt and Joanna for dinner, it was awesome!

Brielle also did a #2 twice today, both times in the potty. I can't say how GREAT that is. She's not totally potty trained, but this is a big step in the right direction. She's not asking to go, she still needs to be reminded. Now that she's in training pants, poo is BAD. The pants don't have tabs, so you have to pull them off of her legs. That can be difficult, as you can imagine.

Here is a picture of Brielle with the reward of her first poopy today. She was supposed to eat these BEFORE her nap, but managed to take them to bed with her. This was the aftermath.[gallery]

Bryce rolled over today all the way onto his tummy for the first time since his surgery. He could roll around a room before the operation, but since, when he gets onto his side and his shoulder, he would roll back over. This is a great step toward getting his mobility back to what it was. His bandage strips are starting to come off. Some have fallen off, some have been pulled off by him. His incision looks very good. Pink and clean, not scabby and gross like I thought it would. He's been back to eating normal again. Baby food, cheerios, rice cereal, and milk. I'm feeling like he's back to normal, and we haven't even been home a week.

It was nice to be back to church this morning. Lael and I went, and Joan (Lael's mom) and Barbara (Lael's aunt) were kind enough to watch the kids so we wouldn't expose them to any sick kids. Today should be the last day we have to quarantine the kids anymore. YES! We had to be really careful with them since we found out about Bryce, so it's very freeing to not have to keep them away from other kids now. We had a little family get together tonight at my parent's home. Brielle LOVED the little swing on the apple tree. She would ask me to push high, pockets off (I needed to take my hands out of my pockets and push her), faster, etc. She is starting to talk a LOT more, and even make short sentences. Like she just said 20 seconds ago to grandma, "No more diaper, no thank you!" Actually, it's more like , "No more deepa!! No gank you!! " Ah yes, the joys of bedtime. She's asking to go "polly" now, she's learning to stall. How's this for a real-time play by play! I need to go...Bryce needs his meds.

I decided to look at some old pictures of Brielle and Bryce we have on Flickr. Here are some older pics.

I came home late today, and Brielle ran up to me and said “Hi, Daddy! Miss you!” Man

I came home late today, and Brielle ran up to me and said "Hi, Daddy! Miss you!" Man, that hit me, what a cutie! I love her so much. I think she got the saying from me. When I get home, I make a point to give her a hug and tell her I missed her today, and that it's good to see her, and that I love her. I guess it made a difference and something stuck!

I've been reading John lately. To get to know Jesus better, I need to learn about Him, I love reading the New Testament. Anyway, I searched today on why Jews don't believe in Jesus because of all I've read over the years about how much the Jews hated Jesus. The one website I saw listed a few spurious reasons why they don't. But there are so many prophecies and signs that He is the Messiah, I don't understand why they don't believe in Him, other than their blindness. The arguments the Rabbi put forth were very weak, in my opinion. The evidence for His divinity far outweigh what I've read against it. I feel very saddened for the Jewish nation.

We watched the newest episode of "The Office". Just when I thought they couldn't make the show more uncomfortable and realistic, BAM, it hit me like a ton of feathers (you think that wouldn't hurt, but c'mon, a TON is a TON!). It was really funny.

Here is a humorous picture of a kitten getting a bath.

To summarize:

I hope this makes sense...

:-)

Today was a great day, I had a good day at work, very productive. I felt good about how things went, and how I treated people. I left from work to drive straight into South Bend to spend some time with some friends of ours, and my sister, brother-in-law, and nephew for dinner (along with my family of course). We took five kids to the park after having a great dinner. We had three two year olds, a seven month old, and a 2 1/2 month old. It was fun, but not dissimilar to trying to lasso 45 drunken calves with a piece of dental floss four inches long. I may be exaggerating a small bit, but you get the picture. I'm fascinated at how much energy little kids have, and conversely, how little I have the older I get. It's worth it though. Even though a two year old can be very independent, headstrong, and disobedient; the times that she says "Daddy, dance!", or "Daddy, play!", make it all worth it.
