Anyway, when I think weird animation, my thoughts instantly turn to the Buenos Aires art collective Blu, who are the only people that I know of who paint animated graffiti. It's basically traditional stop-motion animation, but with walls and the sides of buildings for cels.

I've already showcased one of their efforts on this blog - the sprawling, city-spanning, globe-trotting MUTO, which took gods know how many days to finish and took over walls in Buenos Aires and in Baden, Germany. This one, Letter A, is a more modest effort and took up only one whitewashed wall room in New York's Johnathan Levine Gallery in 2007. But it's just as freaky and as clever as MUTO.

Many street artists have taken graffiti to  whole new level and made names for themselves in both the graffiti community and the more mainstream pop art world. The high-tech graffiti artists group Graffiti Research Lab, who use laser pointers in lieu of paint, was even featured at a recent MOMA show, Design and the Elastic Mind.

One of the most famous street artists today goes by the name of Banksy. His distinct, stencil style of politically and socially charged street art is found worldwide. To view some of his work, go to Banksy.co.uk.

Another graffiti artist who is doing innovative things is Blu, a street artist from Argentina, has taken the static images of graffiti and turned them into flip book-style animations. His new animation, Muto, was much-anticipated by fans of graffiti art.

Ned Batchelder states: "His latest is Muto which is both a technical tour de force and an eye-opening creepy animation. Not only did he work in the less than ideal environment of the sidewalk, but it meant that he couldn't have more than one frame in existence at a time, with no possibility of reworking old frames or sketching out new ones. Once the frame was shot, the work was destroyed. Amazing."

Fotograaf Bob (Waldemar Torenstra) ontmoet tijdens een broeierige zomer op Texel de geschiedenisstudente Kathleen (Sophie Hilbrand). Wanneer hij haar later weer tegenkomt in de disco, waar ze een zomerbaantje heeft, ziet hij dat ze wordt opgehaald door een oude man bekend als “De Mummy”. Dan maakt Bob kennis met Federici, die net als hij onder de indruk is van de mooie Kathleen. In de daaropvolgende dagen ontstaat er een geheimzinnige band tussen de twee mannen. Bob – inmiddels in de ban van Kathleen - volgt de ontmoetingen tussen Kathleen en De Mummy, die niet helemaal betrouwbaar lijkt nauwgezet. Wie is hij, en wat doet hij eigenlijk op het eiland? Wanneer Bob met de hulp van Federici de raadsels rond De Mummy en Kathleen ontrafelt, stuiten ze op een levensgevaarlijk en ingewikkeld complot. Het is de vraag of de liefde tussen Bob en Kathleen hier tegen bestand is.

this week we welcome back the one and only EXILE. you should already know his roster of production credits, but what you may not know is...this guy is first and foremost a DJ. he got down with us in january and we had to put the brakes on a 2am dance party. it hurt. maybe this friday we'll just pull a lock-in or something.

this week will also feature the highly successful LOCAL ART CO-OP, a BEEFED UP SOUND SYSTEM, and a couple other surprises. don't sleep.

Para llegar a este logro Pioneer utilizó el principio de capas ya usado en los 'Blu-ray', pero en vez de usar solo dos, intentó con 16, y el resultado fue exitoso.

Imagínate todo lo que puede entrar en este disco... entrarían todas las temporadas de todas tus series favoritas y hasta sobraría espacio... lo mejor, al menos para mí, es que estos discos no se rayan osea son muy durables y creo que de acá a un tiempo podrían reemplazar a los disco duros...

Desafortunadamente la tecnología para grabar en estos discos aún no está disponible para el uso común, por lo que  en un principio solo se venderán con contenidos pregrabados.

Decían que el blu-ray iba a ser de ayuda en la lucha contra la piratería, pero ya muchos se dieron cuenta de eso y ahora están creando quemadores de blu-ray...

Out of all events [just] passed and probably to come - especially in this part of the world, this is what I'd go to pretty long lengths for. If you've missed me talk about Boombox before, it's an event which garners guest hosts once a month, on the first Saturday of each month in Downtown LA's Chinatown. Last off the rank were Pacific Division, now Blu and Mainframe (who come together as Johnson&Jonson) are taking on hosting duties come September 6th, with a stack of guest appearances including Exile and Gaslamp Killer; doubling the night up as the official release party for their new album dropping September 23rd. 

All in all, this is one of those times when saying I'd be there with bells on is an understatement. If you can attend, I envy you.
