De nederlandske myndigheder har arresteret karikaturtegneren Gregorius Nekschot (et pseudonym. Nekschot betyder dødsstød, litt: "skudt i nakken"). De retslige myndigheder i Amsterdam, sagde i går, at karikaturtegneren blev anholdt som mistænkt for kriminel krænkelse ved at "publicere tegnefilm, som er diskriminerende for muslimer og folk med mørk hud."

Karikaturtegneren blev anholdt i tirsdags, mens politiet ransagede hans hus for "diskriminerende beviser." Hans computer, sikkerhedskopier, USB sticks, mobiltelefon og en række tegninger blev konfiskeret. Nekschot blev frigivet to dage senere, men det er muligt at han vil blive retsforfulgt efter en klage i 2005 af den hollandske imam Abdul Jabbar van de Ven, en indfødt hollænder der konverterede til islam.

Ifølge den hollandske anklagemyndighed har Nekschot "gjort det til sit erhverv" at tegne karikaturtegninger af "en fornærmende og / eller diskriminerende karakter." Ernst Hirsch Ballin, den hollandske justitsminister, en kristelig demokrat, sagde, at det tog politiet tre år at opdage den faktiske identitet af karikaturtegneren.

Nekschot, en ven af den afdøde Theo van Gogh, den hollandske filmmager der blev slagtes på rituel vis af en muslimsk fanatiker i 2004, skjuler sin virkelige identitet for at undgå unødvendige risici. Hans Teeuwen, en hollandsk stand-up komiker og ven af Nekschot, fortalte i går de nederlandske medier, at politiet havde fortalt Nekschot da de løslod ham senere samme dag, at "han har nu mistet sin anonymitet." Teeuwen sagde, at dette var "en snarere truende bemærkning."

Som en talskvinde for Xtra, Nekschot's forlag, sagde i dag: "Han blev anholdt med et stort show af styrke, med omkring 10 politifolk." Talskvinden bad om at hendes navn ikke blive brugt, fordi tegneren og udgiveren har modtaget dødstrusler. Nekschot fortalte den hollandsk avis Het Parool, at politifolk havde fortalt ham: "Hvad du tegner er værre end hvad de gjorde i Danmark. Er du klar over, hvad der kan ske for dig, hvis din identitet bliver kendt?" - Karikaturtegneren frygter for sit liv, hvis han bliver sendt i fængsel. "Som skaberen af disse karikaturtegninger er mit liv  i fare i fængsel," sagde han.

Nekschot's arbejde er uhøflig og ofte seksuelt eksplicit. Som sådan er det karakteristisk for den hollandske liberale mentalitet og ikke ud over den almindelige grænse i Holland. I sine tegneserier mobber han det multikulturelle samfund, og det synes altså at være helligbrøde.

A 50-year-old Saudi woman asked for divorce after her husband lifted her face veil while she was sleeping, local press reported.

For 30 years, the wife said she never showed her face to her husband in conformity with the tradition of her native village near the south western Saudi city of Khamis Mushayt. "After all these years, he tries to commit such a big mistake," the wife told Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadh, after she left the house in total disbelief. She said the husband apologized and promised never to do it again.  This is not the first case of husbands who have not seen their wives' faces in decades. In the past Al Arabiya has reported the case of Ali al-Qahtani, whose wife had been wearing the face veil for the entire ten years of their marrage. When he tried to take it off, she threatened to leave and only decided to stay after he swore never to try again. Hassan Al-Atibi threatened to marry another woman if his wife didn't show him her face. The woman nominated one of her friends who doesn't observe this tradition as a possible new wife for him, saying this would be better than her showing her face. And neither the husband or children of Om Rabea al-Gahdaray, 70, have ever seen her face. Al-Gahdaray says it is a family tradition, also followed by mother and sisters, which her husband accepted and never tried to change. When asked how she could have kids without her husband ever seeing her face, she replied:

"Marriage is about love, not faces."

New York Times: Five men were arrested in Bologna in northern Italy this week after their behavior inside a basilica aroused police officers' suspicions that they were plotting a terrorist attack, Italian law enforcement officials said today.

The men, who were arrested on Monday morning, included four Moroccans, according to the officials. The police at the San Petronio Basilica, which is one of Italy's Gothic treasures, had been on alert because it contains a 15th-century fresco with a depiction of the prophet Muhammad among demons in hell that has drawn complaints from Muslims.

The arrests seemed to underscore the persistent jitters about terrorism in Italy and the intensifying vigilance of law enforcement officials as the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon approaches. Security around the Vatican has tightened, for example, and tourists at some Vatican destinations have reported lengthening delays at security checkpoints.

Just two weeks ago, the Italian secret service agency sent a report to the Parliament warning that the country remained at ''an elevated risk'' of attacks by Islamic fundamentalists. The report singled out ''ecclesiastic institutions and bodies'' as potential targets.

The Brussels Journal: Belgian police is protecting a 17th century pulpit in the Flemish town of Dendermonde. The pulpit in the Catholic church of Our Lady dates from 1685, two years after the battle of Vienna when the Christian armies of the Polish King John III Sobieski defeated the Turks poised to overrun Europe. The sculpted wooden pulpit, made by Mattheus van Beveren, depicts a man subdued by angels and represents the triumph of Christianity over Islam. The man is generally thought to be Mohammed. He is holding a book which is generally assumed to be the Koran.

Two years ago, on April 16, 2006, during the height of the Danish cartoon affair, this website published a photo of the pulpit to show that there is a long tradition of depicting Mohammed in European iconography. Last Friday the Turkish newspaper Yeniçag reprinted our picture on its front page with the caption “Stop this hideous insult.” Yeniçag demands that Belgium remove the pulpit. The paper writes that “after the Danish cartoons and Geert Wilders’s Fitna movie this is yet another insult to the Prophet.”

Police tonight arrested a man in connection with the murder of Jimmy Mizen, the teenager killed in a southeast London bakery at the weekend. Jimmy, 16, bled to death at the Three Cooks bakery in Lee after suffering a cut to his throat.

A police spokesman said: “Officers arrested a 19 year-old-man. He remains in custody in a London police station.” Detectives revealed last night that they were hunting a suspect, aged 19. A warrant for the Turkish man’s arrest was issued to all police forces in the country. The suspect is believed to be known to the Mizen family. Police are still trying to piece together exactly what happened in the moments before the attack that left Jimmy lying in his brother Tommy’s arms, bleeding to death on a shop floor. Jimmy’s mother, Margaret, 55, has said that she felt sorry for the killer’s parents. “I don’t feel anger, I just feel sorry for the parents, because we’ve got lovely memories of Jimmy. They will have such sorrow about their son.” Jimmy was usually at work with his father on a Saturday, helping him in his shoe repair shop, but had been given the day off because it was his 16th birthday on Friday. He had gone to the shop to buy his first lottery ticket when he was attacked by a youth. Witnesses said he asked Jimmy, a former altar boy, to go outside for a fight but when the teenager refused the aggressor smashed in the glass door of the bakery. Jimmy’s throat was cut with a shard of glass. - He was the thirteenth young person to be killed in London this year, compared with a total of 26 last year.

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A rocket hit the BBC office in Baghdad on Friday but no one was wounded in the attack, the British broadcaster said. Patrick Howse, the BBC bureau chief in the Iraqi capital, said the rocket left a hole around 1 meter by 1.5 meters in the roof of the office.  "At 14:45 local time (7:45 a.m. EDT), a rocket struck the roof of the BBC Baghdad bureau. It caused structural damage but no one was injured," Howse said.

Militants have stepped up rocket and mortar attacks in Baghdad in the past month since the government launched a crackdown on Shi'ite militias. Many are aimed at the Green Zone government and diplomatic compound but often miss.

Roberto Calderoli, 52, a senior member of the Northern League, enraged Muslims two years ago during the row over a set of Danish cartoons featuring the Prophet Mohammed. He appeared on television wearing a T-shirt printed with one of the cartoons. The Italian consulate in Libya was set on fire and 11 people died in riots. Mr Calderoli has also threatened to defile the proposed site of a mosque in Padua by walking a pig over the ground. When Italy beat France in the 2006 World Cup, he said France had "sacrificed its identity by fielding niggers, Muslims and communists".

Despite the controversies, which forced him to resign as a minister for reform in 2006, Mr Calderoli is likely to get another job when Mr Berlusconi picks his cabinet because of the strong results obtained by the Northern League in the general election.

Boris Johnson is preparing to be unveiled as the new mayor of London later today following Labour’s collapse across Britain in the local elections.

Senior Conservative sources said they would be “gobsmacked” if Mr Johnson did not win the mayoral contest and even Downing Street aides appear to have conceded that Ken Livingstone has lost. Confidence of a Tory win was boosted after one bookmaker announced it was paying out on a Boris Johnson victory hours before the official result is expected later this evening.

Paddy Power said the "mauling" Labour had received elsewhere in England and Wales suggested the Conservative candidate was on his way to City Hall.

Winning the London mayoral contest is expected to cap an historic electoral win for the Conservatives with David Cameron’s party on course for more than 44 per cent of the national vote. Labour is now expected to finish with as little as 24 per cent, humiliatingly pushed into third place by the Liberal Democrats on 25 per cent.

Labour has lost more than 300 council seats – the worst result since the 1960s – and the Conservatives are expecting to win between 230 and 240 extra councillors. This morning, Labour announced it had lost Reading, its last council in the south outside London, while the Conservatives won North Tyneside as the party continued to make inroads in the north and Wales.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown admitted it had been a "bad" and "disappointing" night for the Labour Party in the local elections, but insisted the party would learn the lessons and move forward. In a humiliating move, Labour have today announced that their new General Secretary, David Pitt-Watson, will not now take the post and has begun searching for a new candidate.

The size of the Conservative majority is comparable to Labour’s local election win under Tony Blair in 1995. sparking speculation that Mr Cameron could be swept into power with a sizeable majority if repeated in a general election.

The Tories celebrated this morning after winning control of seven councils including Bury, a key northern target, and Southampton, a surprise southern gain. Mr Cameron, the Conservative leader, today travelled to Bury and Wales to celebrate symbolically important wins.

Speaking outside his home this morning, Mr Cameron said it was a “very big moment” for his party. He heralded Conservative wins in Wales, such as advances in the Vale of Glamorgan, Monmouth and Cardiff, saying “the Conservative Party is back in Wales”.

“I think these results are not just a vote against Gordon Brown and his government, I think they are a vote of positive confidence in the Conservative Party,” he said. “I think people see a party that has changed for the better, that is united, that’s got a strong team of leaders and increasingly they are looking to us, trusting us, to speak out on the issues they really care about - in terms of improving schools and improving our hospitals and dealing with crime on our streets.

“I think this is a very big moment for the Conservative Party, I don’t want any one to think we would deserve to win an election just on the back of a failing government. I want us to really prove to people that we can make the changes that they want to see in terms of schools and hospitals and crime and the other issues that really matter to all of us - and that’s what I’m going to devote myself and my party to doing over the next few months.”

A series of Government ministers took to the airwaves this morning and conceded that the results made grim reading for Labour. Harriet Harman, Labour’s deputy leader, said that the Government had got the message and was now listening to the concerns of the general public – particularly over the increasing cost of living and other economic worries.

John Denham, the Universities Secretary and Labour MP for Southampton Itchen, also said the Government now had to listen to the fears of middle class southern voters.

He said: “There have been some disappointments tonight. We have to go back to voters and say we are listening, we will get back to what people have enjoyed in the south in the past 10 years.”

The results suggested Mr Brown will face a summer of discontent as his own MPs consider whether there is any possibility that he can lead Labour to a general election success. Labour insiders feared the results would be even worse than Tony Blair’s poor showing at last year’s local elections.

Mr Cameron had hoped to gain traction among voters in northern England, and the Conservatives also picked up wards in Sunderland, Durham and Wigan.

In perhaps the biggest surprise of the early declarations, the Tories also won control of Southampton from its ruling Labour-Lib Dem coalition.

The last time the Tories held control in the city was 1984. The party also won control of Bedworth, Harlow and West Lindsey councils.

The Liberal Democrats meanwhile claimed they had taken control of Hull, once a Labour stronghold. They also held control of Liverpool, their northern flagship, following the surprise defection of an independent councillor.

There were 4,023 seats up for election on 137 English councils and 22 Welsh ones.

David Chaytor, Labour MP for Bury North, said many voters were unconvinced by Mr Brown’s record to date.

He said: “Floating voters are still uncertain about the Government and how it has performed over the past six months. We knew this was going to be a difficult night.”

”Our aim has been to limit the damage and hold on to what we have got.”

After several dismal weeks and the damaging Labour rebellion over the 10 p tax rate, senior Labour sources believe disillusioned voters have delivered a severe reprimand to his Government.

Labour strategists plan to blame bad results on popular worries about the economy and the global credit crunch.

”These are elections being fought against a difficult economic backdrop,” said Ed Miliband, the Cabinet Office minister and a key confidante of Mr Brown.

Mr Brown will “take it on the chin” and come out in a string of media appearances on Sunday to say he understands the anger and concern of voters, and promise to respond over the coming months and years.

Key to the Labour recovery strategy is an optimistic view of the UK economy. The Bank of England on Wednesday said that the worst of the global credit crunch could be over and Mr Brown is betting on a significant up-turn.

Yet an ICM poll for BBC Newsnight shows that the economy is, for now, a major Labour vulnerability.

The poll, showed the share of voters who trust to run the economy is 32 per cent, down from 48 per cent a year ago.

The Tories meanwhile scored 46 per cent, up from 36 per cent.

Labour’s long-term strategy is to meet such concerns by drawing a sharp contrast between Mr Brown’s decade at the Treasury with Mr Cameron’s lack of significant government experience.

In the Commons on Wednesday, Mr Brown derided his opponent as a “shallow salesman” who lacks substance.

Speaking on BBC Newsnight last night, Mr Miliband said personal credibility will be decisive.

He said: “In difficult economic times, Gordon Brown is absolutely the right person to lead Britain.”

The ICM poll showed that forty-two per cent of voters believe the Prime Minster is an electoral asset for Labour, and 52 per cent said he is a liability.

Mr Cameron’s personal ratings were 68 per cent positive against 24 per cent negative.

HATAY - A Saudi Arabian court on Thursday ratified the conviction of Turkish barber Sabri Bogday, who was sentenced to beheading in Saudi Arabia on charges of "cursing the name of God."

Bogday has been in jail for 13 months in Saudi Arabia after a quarrel with a neighbor near his barber shop. Bogday was accused of cursing the name of God.

Bogday`s wife, Muazzez, told the A.A that family members were in Saudi Arabia for the appeal hearing of the case. She said they would once again appeal against the verdict.

"We are devastated after the court verdict today," she said. "We lost all our hopes. We do not know what to do next."

Moderate Muslim clerics are to be brought in from Pakistan in an effort to combat extremism in British mosques, the Home Secretary will announce today. Jacqui Smith struck a deal on a recent visit to Pakistan under which respected imams could be invited to help British Muslims counter the fundamentalists. The move is part of Government efforts to step up its so-called prevent agenda, which is aimed at tackling jihadi propaganda in Muslim communities.

In a newspaper interview at the weekend, Miss Smith said: "The vast majority of British Muslims have a Pakistani heritage. If we work with the Government there we can win the arguments. "We need to do more to tackle those places where radicalisation is developing - in prisons, schools, higher education - so that people are getting the right messages about what it means to be a British Muslim. "We will also work to ensure we identify vulnerable people being groomed for terror - in the same way we protect young people from being dragged into crime and abuse."

During her talks in Pakistan, the two governments pledged to work closely with communities in Britain to tackle the underlying causes of radicalisation. Ministers believe that preventing young Muslims being radicalised is a central part of their counter-terrorism strategy. However, the Home Office has been criticised for allowing fundamentalist clerics into the country to preach and attend rallies. Miss Smith said at the weekend that police and security agencies were monitoring 30 terrorism plots, 2,000 individuals and 200 networks.

Mashad, 10. april (AK) - En højtstående gejstlig i Iran oplyser, at utilslørede kvinder udgør en alvorlig trussel mod det iranske samfund, eftersom de forvandler mænd til "vilddyr".

"Kvinder uden slør er en fare, som myndighederne undervurderer", sagde Hojatolislam Seyyed Ahmad Elmalhoda, en magtfuld gejstlig som leder fredagsbønnen i Mashad, en by som anses for hellig for shia-muslimer da den rummer imamen Reza's kiste.

"Situationen er særdeles alvorlig, for hvis mænd ser disse slemme kvinder, vil de forvandle sig til vilddyr og så må hele samfundet se konsekvenserne i øjnene."

Ifølge den shia-gejstlige er "kvinder som ikke respekterer den konservativ islams påklædningsregler en "kilde til al ondskab i samfundet".

"At repektere chador'en (en lang, sort frakke som dækker arme og ben og som sædvanligvis bæres sammen med en hijab) er landets lov og myndighederne må straffe enhver som ikke respekterer dette påbud særdeles hårdt, på samme måde som de straffer tyve og mordere," sagde Elmadhoda. Han er tillige medlem af "Vogternes Råd" - et magtfuldt organ med 86 ældre gejstlige, som vælger, overvåger og eventuelt afsætter landets øverste leder.

Hans tale var rettet til journalister som dækkede præsident Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's besøg ved imam Reza's grav.

"En kvinde som ikke bærer det fuldstændige slør er som en ild der brænder enhver der kommer i kontakt med hende," sagde Elmadhoda.

"Vor ungdom, selv dem som opdrages i familier der tror og respekterer profetens ord, når de kommer i kontakt med denne ild [kvinder, som ikke er anstændigt klædt] vil brænde til aske," udtalte han.

Jyllands-Posten (som på det sidste er faldet slemt af på den) har i dag en nogenlunde fornuftig leder om "Dommere i slør". Dog drejer den sig kun om, hvorvidt domstolene vil tillade dommere at optræde i retten iført religiøs beklædning. Faktisk er det vel endnu værre, at en anklaget kan føle en falsk tryghed ved at blive stedt for en dommer, der godt nok ser civiliseret ud, men inden under den røde dommerkappe gemmer en muslim. Det problem har man - mig bekendt - ikke taget stilling til endnu, men det skyldes vel kun at det ligger lidt tungt med at få muslimer gelejdet gennem jurastudiet.

Men ovre i det snart totalt dhimmificered England - hvor man vel har importeret nogle "Dr. Jur." fra Pakistan (tilsyneladende består hele mellemøstens befolkning af lutter doktores ?) har man ikke den slags smålige anfægtelser.

Her et eksempel:

The incidence involves the abduction of a 15 year old girl by muslim Mahmoud Miah - who pled guilty to the charges. Undoubtedly this serious offense should lead to jail time but the "28 year old man sought out his victim, dropped to his knees, cried, begged and physically shook saying he would do anything for the girl so that she would drop the charges - using the excuse that his mother was ill. He also offered her money for a taxi. Again, one would think that jail time might be in order?? BUT "Judge Mushtaq Khokar, sentencing, called the matter a "very serious offence", and said that normally a custodial sentence would be given. However, he had considered the circumstances and agreed with the defence that "no threat was made". He told Miah he would spare him jail and added: "I am sure that these proceedings would be difficult for your family."

Yes, I'm sure being the perpetrator of an abduction of a young girl is very difficult for poor Mahmoud and his family. So the lesson to be learned by muslim defendants is - whining, crying, and drunkeness are legitimate reasons, for British judges, to not incarcerate sexual molesters and abductors. Having a muslim judge doesn't seem to hurt either.

Men også selv om man stedes for en vantro dommer, hjælper det at bruge den sædvanlige muslim-rutine med at flæbe, hyle, skrige og "se, hvor alle er onde mod os forfulgte muslimer" :

This incident is the most egregious. A young 17 year old girl was sitting, minding her own business, waiting for a bus. Another male was also at the bus stop. Muslim Shazad Rahman sat down next to the girl and proceed to sexually attack her.The terrified teenager tried to fend him off but he carried out a sexual attack while the cowardly witness turned a blind eye and refused to help. Rahman has multiple past offences - including prior sexual attacks, drunk driving, shoplifting, assault, etc and has spent time in jail. So what does the idiotic judge do? - While voicing outloud his opinion that Rahman should go to jail - the judge immediately changes his mind:

"Judge Anthony Hammond told him: "You deserve to go to prison for this offence. The only question is, `Do I suspend the sentence?' At the end of the day I have decided to suspend it."

He also handed Rahman a two-year supervision order. "

What caused the change? Why is a man, with a long history of criminal behavior, given such a lenient sentence for such a serious assault? " Well - Rahman had "consumed far too much alcohol" and had been involved in a fight with his ex-girlfriend's brother, the court was told. En rocker kører forbi Zoologisk Have og ser en lille pige læne sig ind i løveburet. Pludselig griber løven hende i ærmet og prøver at trække hende ind for at æde hende, mens hendes skrækslagne forældre ser til.

Rockeren springer af sin Harley, løber hen til buret og langer løven en over snuden. Hylende af smerte springer løven tilbage og giver slip på pigen. Rockeren bærer pigen hen til forældrene, som takker ham overstrømmende.

En journalist ser tilfældigvis det hele, henvender sig til rockeren, og siger: "Mand, det var ligegodt det modigste og mest heltemodige, jeg har set i hele mit liv".

"Åh hvad", siger rockeren, "Det var da ikke noget. Løven var jo bag tremmer, jeg så den lille pige var ved at blive ædt, så jeg gjorde jo bare min pligt".

"Jeg ser du har et rygmærke på din vest", siger journalisten.

"Ja, jeg hænger ud med en Israelsk biker-klub", svarer rockeren.

"OK, jeg vil sørge for at dette her kommer på forsiden. Jeg er journalist på Politiken, ser du".

Den følgende morgen køber rockeren Politiken for at se, om han virkelig er i avisen. På forsiden står:
