I don't know much about The Time Machine. So my choices are based upon what I've read, or what I've heard guys like. I could be way off, but here it goes:

• Ulysses by James Joyce. The Boss has read this three, maybe four times in his life and has the book on CD. TDH enjoys Joyce as well and has read this maybe twice.
• The Bible. Again, not knowing anything about George, it seems like a logical choice if you are traveling through time, wandering around, perhaps a bit lost maybe it will get him through the rough patches.
• The Worst Case Scenario Book. (Pick a volume.) I'm sure this is too contemporary for the actual character and etc, but from what I understand about time travel it puts you in some awkward situations and this book helps you through them.

Now, I have a general question... I just finished the Time Traveler's Wife and according to that book you can't take anything from your present into the future or the past and vice versa. So, how can George take books with him?

Today being Sunday, Richard had come over to Hawk's Haven, our rural retreat in the scenic middle of nowhere, PA, to have brunch and talk about the week's upcoming posts. Picture our friend Ben and Richard seated on the deck, surrounded by plants and kittens, listening to the babble of the little creek, Hawk Run, just off the deck. Silence has gone into the kitchen for a coffee refill. Here's how the scene played out:

Richard Saunders: We need to write a post to respond to Zora's tag and tell people six random things about ourselves.

Our friend Ben: Uh... right.

RS: Right.

OfB: Right.

Silence returns to the deck with a fresh cup of coffee. Richard and our friend Ben turn towards her with one accord.

Silence: Why are you two staring at me?

OfB: Um, about the tag post...

Silence: What about it?

OfB, RS: We think you should write it.

Silence, glaring at them, then smiling sweetly: Ah. Well, I'm sure I could think of six fascinating things to say about each of you...

OfB: Oh, come on, Silence! How hard can it be to come up with six things people might want to know about you?

Silence: Well, you could find out how hard it is by writing the post yourself. Seems like it's high time one of you two took a turn, unless you want to rename the blog "Poor Silence's Almanac."

RS, OfB: Uh...

Silence: Look, why don't we draw straws. Whoever pulls the short straw has to write six things about themselves.

RS, OfB: You're kidding, right? You mean people actually draw straws?

Silence (slaps forehead, rolls eyes): Look. I'll go get three grass stems and cut one in half. You can each draw one, and we'll see who's the lucky winner. (She returns with the "straws.") Gentlemen, take your chances!

OfB: Urk.

Silence: Hah, you're elected! You pick six or I'll do it for you! And, please, don't make one of them that you want to win a MacArthur award. Surely everyone who's old enough to read has gotten the hint by now.

OfB, glowering: Thank God you're not one of the nominators.

Silence (smugly): How do you know?

OfB groans, closes eyes. Saints preserve us...

RS, looking desperately at his watch: Er, Silence, Ben, perhaps we could get on with this so we could have a little brunch before suppertime?  

OfB: Okay, okay. (Thinking.) How about these?

1. Despite my huge and much-loved book collection, if I were trapped on a deserted island, I'd rather have a huge stack of blank notebooks and pens than any of them. And if I couldn't have notebooks and pens, I'd take a stick and write my novels, poems, and essays in the sand, even if I had to start again each day.

2. I've never understood the compulsive need for novelty that seems to afflict so many of my friends and acquaintances. I can eat the same food, wear the same clothes, read the same books, see the same movies, listen to the same music, appreciate the same view, enjoy the same people and pets endlessly without craving something new. Where I love I love, be it food or art or companionship. Of course I enjoy new things, too, and adding new favorites to the classic repertoire. But I also remain faithful to the old. The shampoo I used in college is still in my shower; I still watch my favorite movies and read my favorite books every year, and listen to beloved CDs pretty much daily; I could eat pasta or pizza or a baked potato or good bread and cheese or rice every day with a salad and side and be perfectly happy. I never tire of the view from our back deck, or wish I could trade my friends, family, and nearest and dearest for newer models. (Shut up, Silence.) Life is rich, good, and rewarding just as it is, and therein lies the secret of happiness, say I.

RS: Uh, Ben, I think these are supposed to be short "random things," not paragraphs. Some of Zora's were, like, three words.

Silence (smirking): No one ever accused Ben of being at a loss for words.

OfB: Grrrrrr. Maybe one of you would like to take over?

Silence: Well, maybe while I'm making them you could finish writing this post. I'll even throw some blueberries in the salad just for you.

4. I learned piano for 11 years and completed grade 2 and 3 exams for it.

5. I learned German until Year 12 at school - and now can pretty much only remember how to count to 20 and say hello, goodbye and 'coffee and cake' in German!!

6. I love Royal Winton china (the chintzy stuff)! I have 3 old, original pieces and I drool over it at Antique shops!

7. Hubby and I bought a large picture for a Christmas present to each other to hang in our new house - that was 3 1/2 years ago! The picture is being stored at my parents house and we still haven't built our new house!!

Last but not least for today..... my altered tins! I am not very experienced at 'altering' stuff, but I've covered these two so I can use them again for gifts or pencil tins.  I left the centre of the scallop circle blank because I figured I could then stamp and punch out whatever sentiment I need when I go to use it!

I'm sitting here eating a plate of leftover green beans and hashbrown casserole ( I didn't want to cook) from a MOPS dinner earlier in the week, trying to check emails and see if anyone had donated to my Leukemia & Lymphoma Society fundraiser. I was going to quick look up the 4 mile run I created on Map My Run and go head out. But no, I had to get tagged! And being the kind who loves to play games I had to read it.

I'm not going to repost the game--yet. I am going to go for my run, and then try to get some fundraising done. After that, I'm going to find a way to fill the rest of my afternoon before getting ready for a date with my DH. We're going to dinner with friends and then see Spamalot! THAT I will make time for.

1. What were you doing five years ago?

- Celebrating my 1st year anniversary to my hawt to trot husband, Justin.

- Riding endurance races (horseback) with a friend of mine, Corrina. It only lasted a year.  I lack a competitive nature . . . completely. Love to trail ride, but to race for 50 miles + . . . nah.

- Scuba diving the Oregon Coast with me hubby . . . a hobby he sold me on and I fell in love with.

- Not even thinking about having kids . . . my mind was more on my husband and what activity and trip was next on our list.

- Not necessarily a significant year for me . . . 2003 . . . just a space in time

What Are Five Things On Your To Do List:

- Let's see, there's laundry . . . always

- A nice long walk outdoors . . . weather cooperating

- Listen to Life Bible's (me home church) podcast . . . hopefully there's a new one

- Call my mom . . . we've gone a whole 24 hours without communication . .. aack . . . Oh, nope, she emailed me this morning . . . thats not the same though. I'll call her anyway.

- Clean the boy's bathroom . . . or Toby's bathroom . . . Ugh and Yuck!

I'm pretty exciting . . . don't get jealous! :)

What are Five Snacks You Enjoy?

- Nuts . . . mostly cashews and Almonds

- Quality Chocolate . . . though I've been known to devour just about any brand or kind of chocolate there is. :)

- Scones . . . preferably with cranberries and nuts . . . cuz nuts are good. :) I make a good scone . . . and thats bad. They are easy and good.  I actually have some in a container in the kitchen, as we speak.  Raspberry ones. :)

- Berries . . . strawberries, blueberries, raspberries . . . me likey . . . and they are awesome with whip cream and nuts. :)  . . . oh, and blackberries, which are prolific around these here parts.

- POPCORN . . . the best stuff on earth . . . underneath the old cup o' joe.  Pop it in quality olive oil, drizzle it with olive oil (instead of butter) and get that flavor stuff that jolly time, or some popcorn people, make for popcorn . . . mmm mmm good. They have a Parmesan cheese and garlic, I think, the garlic part might be different.  But its good, believe me, you. :)

What Five Things Would You Do If You Were a Billionaire?

- Get debt free and stay that way

- Buy horse property and take in rescue animals . . . in that create a camp type environment for troubled teen girls. Manuel labor and horses . . . the best cure on the planet. :) Thats just my uneducated opinion. (with God, that is) :)

- Retire my parents . . .they're too old to work.  Buy them a house up here . . . what the carp are they doing in Las Vegas, NV?

- Travel to St. Lucia . . . Kenya . . . Italy . . . Australia (gotta dive the Barrier Reef) . . . New Zealand . . . and so much more . . .

- Help my family in any way possible . . . they'd be set, lets put it that way. And, I would imagine, family I didn't even know existed would find me miraculously. :)

What Are Five of Your Bad Habits?

- Eating too much . . . and of the wrong stuff. Did I mention I like nuts and chocolate . . . sometimes those are combined. :) hee hee

- Slacking at housework . . . and its my only job, right underneath the duty of children.

- Sitting on this thing too much . . . but I've gotten better. Hey, I moved it to my room so I can't zone out into it when the chitlens are awake. Its gotta be at nap time (which is now) or bed time . . . mostly while they're napping. Justin is distracting in the evening.

- I have drinking problem . . . its loaded with caffeine and I go through a pound a week of the source.  You guessed it, Coffee . . . bad, bad habit. hee hee :)

- Belching out loud . . . only in the confines of my own home . . . but enough for Justin to comment.  He doesn't like it. I'm pretty sure I owe the credit to this bad and long acquired habit to my brothers . . . thank you, my disgusting and belching brothers of mine. (Not to mention their raunchy farts and stinky feet) Boys are gross. (I say this to take the heat off my gross and unlady like habit of belching)  And belching sounds so much worse that burping . . . why is that? Same bodily function. hmm

What are Five Jobs You Have Had?

-McD's . . . back at the tender age of 17 . . . my first and worst job ever and the face of planet of earth . . . of course I've never lived anywhere but planet earth . . . soooo, the worst job ever!

- Suncoast Video - Christmas gig

- AccuTel . . . my longest and most boring job.  GMAC's customer service company.  I just sat in a cubicle for three years and answered phone call after phone call after phone call.  I have a lot of phone experience.

- Springfield Police . . . the shortest job I've ever had . . . I was hired for the records/receptionist department (note: lots of phone experience).  The hiring process took longer than the job lasted (lasted 4 months). weird.  Apparently I didn't learn fast enough for their liking but by the time they figured that out . . . I had decided I didn't rightly care for their line of work either. Did I mention my competitive nature was left in the womb? Yeah . . . police department, very competitive and very detail oriented (which I also, apparently, suck at)  This is the only job I was fired from . . . and what a number it did on my ego. Man alive!!! I still have issues regarding that.  I ain't stupid . . .I sware.

- Last but certainly not least . . . Greenhill Humane Society.  That was the job I was at when I became prego with Tobias.  This was also my downright favoritist job ever! The people made it so fun. I worked in the office, doing the adoptions and intakes . . . and dealing with the crazy people brought billions of "stray" cats to us.  Um, its got a collar on and its fat and its happy . . . yeah, we'll call the owner, its probably your neighbor, jerk.  Anyhoo, fun job. I'm still friends, 3 years later, with people from Greenhill.  I quit to raise munchkins . . . cuz that is my current job title . . . Momma, Wife and Homemaker.  :)
