From the Baltimore Sun. His next movie Pride and Glory premieres at the Toronto Film Festival in a couple of weeks. I wish he'd given more details on the one he's in production on, Leaves of Grass. He plays identical twins: a Harvard professor and an "unreconstructed redneck". Sounds wonderful, and, yes, the title is punning on Whitman and marijuana.

I tell you what, though: there's never a zone of truth around when I need one.

Have a safe and restful Labor Day weekend! I'll be back on Tuesday.

Shout-outs to all the Gnomeregan posse who have ensured that through continual exposure to their trade chat, that the name Blinkstrike is permanently etched into my brain and appears in flashing neon lights in my nightmares.

Because I’m really under some deadlines here with my job, but I did want to address last night

Because I'm really under some deadlines here with my job, but I did want to address last night's late-night post. I'd cross-posted it to Alegre's and it got deleted, rightfully so. I shouldn't have posted it there. I stand by it here today, but I also admit it was written under a great emotional strain at the end of a very long two days where I'd gotten about 4 hours sleep. Sure, my judgment was off.

That said, it does reflect some personal inner arguments that I wrestle with as this thing moves along. I do think leverage is the most compelling argument so far. Of course, there are other factors to consider, not the least of which is what happens between now and November. Who knows what could come out about anybody between now and November. It's not like I expect either of them to do anything other than attack each other with all the vim and vigor they've got, and to get plenty dirty doing it.

Also, I simply don't believe that McCain is Bush 2.0. I also think that liberal rhetoric has gotten shriller and shriller about all things Republican for so long now (sometimes rightfully so), that it's hard to take some of it seriously. Yes, the Republicans have played dirty, and some pretty authoritarian factions have succeeded in gaining control of it in recent years (by which I mean the last 40 or so), and yes they have some pretty creepy constituencies, but that does not mean that every single elected Republican and every single Republican voter are equivalent to some sort of monsterhead sent to attack the forces of good (always liberal, of course). Even if that were true, what purpose does it serve to contribute to maintaining that reality? What if we had a chance to accidentally reform both parties? Isn't that worth some consideration?

Anyway, that's behind my public toying with the idea of voting for John McCain, something many people like me talk about when we're in like-minded company, but which very few have taken the risk to discuss publicly. Voting Republican once as a strategy to thwart corrupt factions within your own party does not in any way diminish 20 years of liberal service, activism, and voting, and does nothing to change my commitment to enlightened liberal values. After being brutalized and betrayed for over half a year now by the very people we were supposed to be able to trust, each betrayal escalating in nature, is it any wonder some of us are considering this course of action? You tell me why we can't talk publicly about that. I'll listen, because I just don't get it.

Okay, so after about a month of having a blog again for the first time in years, I've been doing a bit of rethinking and restructuring.

The blog was basically full of motorsports posts. Which is no bad thing as far as I'm concerned, as it's very much one of my current passions. And I've been quite amazed at how many people were accessing and reading them - last weekend, the two days of racing posts got about 40 visitors each day. That's way more than I expected since this was always essentially just an online notebook for me to post the reports for sharing with friends.

So, thank you to anyone and everyone who has read the reports over the last few weeks.

I had to decide whether to keep those posts here and continue adding more, and set up a personal blog elsewhere; or whether this blog - and the URL andrewlewin.wordpress.com - was the better one for my personal blog, and instead move the motorsports ones elsewhere. I finally came down on the side of the latter approach, even though it might break some links to the existing material and confuse some folk; I've tried to do what I can to minimise this by posting redirect links for each and every existing race report.

So now, all the motorsports stuff can be found over in motorsportind.wordpress.com - there's an RSS feed on the side of the page here to latest posts over there, so you can easily see when there's new motorsports stuff. Hopefully that's best of both worlds.

And that means I can focus on posting some "all about me" type posts here in this place. Which unfortunately means I have to think of something worth writing about here ...

Yikes.

Why on earth would I move my blog when I had such established traffic there?

The Blogger template was really, really, really, REALLY beginning to annoy me.

I am eminently familiar with the Wordpress software because I run another blog with it that gets about a quarter of a million hits a year.

My readers are smart enough to read the "This Blog Has Moved" post and find their way here.

Wordpress simply rocks.

'gnomergweedo' was no longer an accurate description of the content of the blog, since I am in the process of relocating to a new server.

Thanks for finding your way here! I hope to have more content (and maybe a better theme) shortly!

Just a morning thought for you: I’ve revealed the who and why in Barry and the Neoprogressives

Just a morning thought for you: I've revealed the who and why in Barry and the Neoprogressives, and More on Neoprogressivism. And I've revealed the how with Extreme Offense. I have provided you with some evidence of these things in posts like my abortion series, the Specter of Roe v Wade One, Two, and Three, general reports on Democratic leadership behavior, as well as reports on Leah Daughtry and other aspects of Democrats' pursuit of Evangelicals.

So, per the About P&L page, I have dug deep and taken a considered view of history. I have offered evidence to back up my assertions. I am prepared to make my decision regarding the 2008 election shortly after returning from Denver later this week. I'm sure I'll be announcing it here.

Just thought I'd note that, and give newer readers a chance to take a look at some of my older posts that built the mounting evidence that culminated in Extreme Offense and the Neoprogressive theory. Definitely worth considering this stuff as we head into Convention week. I'll be flying out Tuesday morning bright and early for my non-stop (!) flight to Denver. I'll probably be a bit busy with the last week of class before then, so expect posting to be light until Tuesday. Starting around noon on the 26th, it's on.

Update: What I'm hoping to do with this post is clearly demonstrate that the neoprogressive path is one the Democrats have been on for some time now. You can literally trace the trajectory. As Republicans realized the neoconic dreams they hatched in the early 1990s, Democrats became increasingly more corrupt themselves, and less willing to address Republican corruption.

I found a picture of this Denver sculpture while surfing this morning, and I was struck by what an apt metaphor it is. Obama, swallowed by a job he isn't prepared for, cannot yet fill the presidential seat. He is as dwarfed by it as Bush was and is. Let's hope enough Superdelegates come to their senses and that, if they do, there isn't too much fallout from it. We'll lose some Obots, but it's doubtful they'd vote for McCain considering the rhetoric they've been spewing for months now. Of course Obots are not known for intellectual consistency, which is exactly why they fall for Obama while screaming about how they're the "real" Democrats. I do worry about the black community, and even though I understand the support for Obama based on racial identification, I completely disagree with it. If it's not okay for women to choose a female candidate based on her gender, it damn sure isn't okay for people of color to choose based on racial identity. That's intellectual consistency. Besides, there's plenty of other criteria to consider. Readiness, for instance.

I'm headed to Denver on Tuesday, and I can't wait! I've got my little citizen journalist toolkit assembled, and am working out itinerary and local transport while there this weekend. I'm ready. I want to thank each and every one of you who made it possible for me to attend this event. I appreciate the help, and I won't let you down. Also, thanks to my friends in Denver, L & N (names withheld to protect the guilty, natch), for letting me crash at their place.

I'll be posting new material sometime today. Until then, use this as an open thread.

Hey guys! A few hours late, but I made you character sheets as promised. There are two!

If you are into the complex naming customs of wuxia fiction, then you should pick up the 'Drama' sheet, which has spaces for your character's given, family, and martial names. The 'Film' sheet has spaces for your character's name, role, and the actor portraying them, instead.

Use the 'Loyalties' or 'Synopsis' section to keep track of what's on your character's mind. There's some room in the reference zone to keep your voting chips. You can cut off the Prop and Set bits on the side to make cards.

Enjoy!

Introduction

Hello all. My name is Leo, and I am a filmmaker. No, I haven't made any films just yet, but I'm working on it. That's kind of the point of this blog. I want to have a running story of what it means to be a filmmaker.

The Story So Far

I started as a music major, and got this |---| close to finishing. Music is a lot of fun, and it's a lot of work. See, music school is designed for one thing: to try to kill music. Yes, you learn a lot along the way, but you end up with either a cog in the music machine, tooled to perfection; or you get burned out.

For me, it's number two.

All along, I knew my passion was movies. But movies are expensive to make! I can write a song for free, post it on MySpace, and make a buck a download! I mean, you just can't beat that. I love music, and I always will. but my true passion is film.

Film allows you to get lost in a world for two hours, get completely engrossed, and disconnect, satisfied that the characters you've grown to love/hate/feel for in some way have done what they were supposed to - but in a surprising way, or to surprising circumstances. It's visuals raised to a new level by music and sound. In short, it's the best combination of everything I love.

Now I just need to actually pull one off.

This post is for the commenter from last week and also yesterday. Last week my computer was down and I was unable to post.

Saturday, I had a chance to check the blog and saw your comment. WordPress has a feature which puts comments in moderation if it is the first time a person has commented. Since I did not know you personally and the comment seems very deeply felt, I emailed you directly to talk to you about the situation, as I didn't want to put something so personal on the blog without discussing it further with you. Also because some of the comment was vague, I wasn't sure if you were male or female and wanted to be careful of how I proceeded.

I would love to talk to you, and if you will email me privately at thesensiblemom@gmail.com maybe we can discuss what you are going through.. and I can email you what I sent you on Saturday.

Everyone is welcome here... because the goal of this blog is to first and foremost to honor Christ and make Him known, while exploring our roles as wives and mothers. char

Regarding the Hillary-nomination announcement: Mea Culpa. Radiowalla is right, the media is doing what Obama and/or Axelrod hoped they would do: resurrect some twisted Hillary-Monster Zombie to fight. Remember the end of Shaun of the Dead? How Shaun had Ed-the-Zombie chained up in his shed so he could still play video games with him? That's how the media wants Hillary. And I didn't see it coming. Stupid me. I'll be trying to flesh out more on this story tomorrow.

Some good news is that I bought the laptop today, and am typing this very post on it. So I'll definitely be live-blogging some of the Convention. I also signed on to attend the WomenCount.com luncheon, featuring Hillary Clinton, on August 26. You will definitely be reading about that here.

Look for a new post sometime tomorrow. I miss the days when I could simply wax poetic on the mechanics of stuff.

As I'm sure you know, one of our goals has been met: Hillary Clinton's name will go into nomination at Denver this month. I will be there reporting the festivities from the field outside the convention center. I can't believe I get to be there to "witness" this incredible event: the first female in U. S. history to have her name put into nomination.

Now, it's obvious from the nature of the announcement that they've got something up their sleeves with this joint announcement. My husband believes, and I tend to agree, that this signals a potential VP offering. What I want to know from you is: could you support an Obama/Clinton ticket? Why or why not?

Personally, I'm conflicted. If this also signals a backing down by the party apparatus, which has been the machine that has helped put us in this position, I might get on board. If they just want to add us Hillary supporters to the roll of factions they're seeking to "capture," I might still say no deal. I supported a split ticket early and often, before I learned so much about Obama. I wouldn't be thrilled with that outcome if Obama was on top, but I might, I say I just might find my way to vote Democratic again this year, but it will take me seriously setting it all out and making a rational decision based on all the facts, both as they've played out to date, and how they will play out until November. It's too early to tell, but I am totally curious about how she might respond to such an offer. It's her choice. He's stupid if he doesn't offer it to her, but ultimately, it's her choice if he does.

Anyway, those are my initial thoughts, offered on the fly.

Sorry I haven't been posting as much, but this college class is kicking my proverbial butt!

As always, I'm still raising funds for Denver. If you can afford it, please consider donating something if you appreciate what you've read here recently. You can use the PayPal and Amazon Honor System links on the right-hand side of the page. Or, for more bang for your buck, consider purchasing some Peacocks and Lilies gear from my CafePress Store. I got my black P&L shirt today, and I'll be wearing it to Denver. It looks totally cool.

Argh, I'm starting to slack with my one-a-day goal. I was supposed to write two yesterday, but I only wrote one. So I should have written two today, but alas, I am again writing only one. And once again I've waited till bedtime to write this.

Umm...today was ok. Little J and I were supposed to go shoe shopping, but it rained/stormed till 2 PM. So I got us ready to go, walked to the bus stop, and waited...and waited...and waited. By this point, it was 3:15, so I said screw it. Little J and I had a leisurely walk home. It was sunny, but still cool and breezy, so all in all it wasn't bad.

So I was tooling around on wikipedia, and apparently today is Victory Day in Rhode Island and Hawai'i. Hawai'i?? Maybe it's because school didn't start till the end of August, but I don't recall Victory Day being observed. It's a celebration of the end of WWII, which, according to wikipedia, no one else celebrates because of how it ended (the dropping of the bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki). I can't imagine Hawai'i, Japanese tourist capital of the world, celebrating that. I know Statehood Day is celebrated in August (for Hawai'i).

I just checked the state of Hawai'i government website, and sure enough there's no "Victory Day" listed as an observed state holiday. This leads me to something else I've been pondering, which may be the topic of a future blog: How reliable is wikipedia in terms of research?

It's officially past my bedtime. Cross your fingers that I actually write two blogs tomorrow to catch up.
