Yeah I know I nicked the title off that Billy Connolly thing, but it's funny.

So as I am on my gap year, I thought I should do some travelling. I am quite a systematic and comprehensive sort of person, thus I thought - 'why go travelling all around the world when I haven't experienced the true beauties on my own doorstep?'. So it was created - throughout the year I will seek to visit as many places in the UK as possible.

Yesterday I went to Oxford

Matthew Arnold famously called it the "city of dreaming spires", and spires there were - here there and everywhere.

Dad was going there to do some research in a library about a guy called Benjamin Beddome. So I had the entire day to myself to explore.

Oxford is a great place for charity shops, I must have gone to about 7 or 8. When I go to charity shops I normally buy Cassette Videos - they are cheap and there's a lot of good films out there that people don't want, purely because they are VHS!

On the subject of charity shops, you may or may not know that Oxfam was founded in Oxford - 'Oxford Committee for Famine Relief'

Gettit?

I went to the first Oxfam ever! I'm not being biased but I think it's also the best Oxfam ever, they had the most Cd's and videos I have ever seen. All I'm saying is that my bag was a lot heavier on the way back than on the way there ;-)

I also went to the this Modern Art place, their current gallery was by Gary Hume, called 'Door Paintings'. They were all like this :

I was a bit divided; part of me could really appreciate this artist's obsession of doors, and the fact that he had dedicated most of his life to doors. The other, more traditional side of me says - what a waste of time!'

But it was quite cool.

I went to an amazen square-courtyard place thing (Quadrangle), outside the Bodleian Library. There was a door leading into a library for each subject (The Trivium: Logic, Grammar, Rhetoric / The Quadrivium: Arithmetic, Astronomy, Geometry, Music / Philosophy / Languages)

I was told that a must see was Blackwell's Books, founded in 1879 by Benjamin Henry Blackwell, this bookshop boasts to be 'Britain's Best Bookshop', with the basement below apparently holding 3 miles of books.

To be honest it's nothing when you have a Waterstones on most streets in central London, basically the same size.

It's only gimmick is that it's old, and it's publish-ees are pretty high profile - in 1915 J. R. R. Tolkien's first poem, "Goblin's Feet", was published by Blackwells.

While I was there I bought Gaudete by Ted Hughes, it looks pretty good. I was tempted to splash out on 'The Complete Lyrics of Bob Dylan' but who needs it when you have lyrics on the net - unless you've got the cash, it's just the presentation you're paying for.

I was tipped off about an indie record store called 'Panda Bear' which was apparently around the Oxford area. I managed to work out that it was on Cowley Road, which is a good 10 minutes walk from the centre tourist-ish bit.

The bad news is that 'Panda Bear' no longer exists, but the good news is that I found several more charity shops, bought several more videos and also found one of the coolest shops ever, it's called Bead Games & Bohemien Nights. Very cool fancy dress, party stuff, jokes - general fun. My sort of shop!

So this was my first stop on tour, I would sum Oxford up by saying it's a great place for posh people, charity shop lovers and historical architecture admirers.

Yes.

On Monday, June 30th, all of the online journals which were previously on the Blackwell-Synergy site

On Monday, June 30th, all of the online journals which were previously on the Blackwell-Synergy site were moved to Wiley's website, InterScience, due to the merger of Wiley-Blackwell's online journal systems following John Wiley & Sons, Inc. aquisition of Blackwell Publishing.

Librarians were assured that after the transition our access options would continue to function seamlessly. We were also told that "Links to journals on Blackwell Synergy will automatically redirect to Wiley InterScience. There is no need for you to change your links."

However, this has not been the case.

The following is the most recent update from Wiley about the transition:

We are working hard to ensure a smooth transition for all customers and users, and thank you for your patience during this time of change. Following is a list of the known issues which we are working on as a top priority:

OpenURL links — These are currently not redirecting at the journal level but instead default to the Wiley InterScience homepage. We expect this to be resolved within a few days.

Access to some subscribed titles is not set up — Submit your request to our Customer Services team here: interscience.wiley.com/support

Missing content — see below for the list of content which we are still working on uploading onto Wiley InterScience.

DOIs — if these do not resolve correctly to the appropriate article, it may be because we have not yet loaded that article.

If you have any additional queries please contact Wiley-Blackwell customer service at interscience.wiley.com/support.

Some back issues, ceased journals, and other content will not be loaded until after the initial transition. We will be adding missing content over the next 10 days.

Blackwell Journal content missing from Wiley InterScience (Excel file)
- last updated: June 30, 2008

Some of our access to (formerly) Blackwell journals has been restored. Most has not, as of yet.

If there are articles that you are unable to access because of this problem, please fill out an InterLibrary Loan request and we will try to get the articles to you as soon as possible.

Updates, when available will be posted here on this blog. Thank you for your patience.

Now that the Obama presidency is all but inevitable, he needs to get a head start picking his cabine

Now that the Obama presidency is all but inevitable, he needs to get a head start picking his cabinet. I am not speculating on the Vice Presidential position yet, but Bill Richardson, I would not hold my breath. It won't be Hillary Clinton.

Here are my bets for the cabinet:

Secretary of State: Fareed Zakaria (Madeleine Albright is just too much like Hillary, even though Hillary is no Madeleine Albright.)

Zakaria was the managing editor of Foreign Affairs, the widely-circulated journal of international politics and economics. He is the author of several books, including The Future of Freedom, which was a New York Times bestseller and has been translated into 20 languages. His new book, The Post American World, is being published in May 2008.

********************

Energy: He'll ask Al Gore, because Obama is just arrogant enough to think a former Vice President of the United States and Nobel Laureate will want to work for him. But in the end, he'll save us all money and just let us use the Internet Energy Expert at www.plantservices.com/voices/energy_expert.html

*******************

Agriculture: Shawn Krull, 35, is a fifth-generation family farmer who asked Obama for an assurance that if he and his dad and his brother buy 10,000 hogs, Obama won't pass any new regulations on them. This is to make sure there is a bi-partisan cabinet member and Krull has voted for Republicans in the past. http://www.suntimes.com/news/politics/obama/927567,CST-NWS-campweb02.article

**********************

Labor: Obama Girl (Amber Lee Ettinger) the #1 Hottest Woman on the Internet. Check us out at our new home: This is to stave off any fear that Obama is a Marxist and reaffirm that he is instead a Sexist.

*********************

Interior: Jan Galanti, of Red Bank, NJ. She saved 11 kids from a bear attack or something and appeared on the front page of the New York Times the same day as Obama did. He needs to have a woman in the cabinet and Jan is just the kind of outdoorsy gal who can handle Interior but not get in cat fights with Labor Secretary Amber Lee Ettinger.

*************************

Housing and Urban Development: Tony Rezko, who has a lot of experience with slum dwelling and real estate transactions. Need we elaborate? http://rezkowatch.blogspot.com

*****************

Health and Human Services: Dr. Quentin Young, Obama's very own doctor. 'Nuff said.

*******************

Defense: Sam Nunn, Former Georgia senator, who toyed with the concept of a non-partisan run for president last year, has come down on the side of Barack Obama in the Democratic race for president. The former senator, considered one of the nation’s preeminent experts on U.S. defense, met with Obama’s foreign policy team on April 18, 2008. http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/shared-blogs/ajc/politicalinsider/entries/2008/04/18/sam_nunn_lines_up_behind_barac.html

***********************

Treasury: Tom Hanks, a really likable actor who likes Barack Obama, can have this easy post. All he has to do is sign newly minted money. There will be a new Obama bazillion bill which will be used to pay off the national debt.

***********************

Attorney General: Bob Bauer, Obama's chief counsel and blogger. Obama is saving Prof. Larry Tribe for the US Supreme Court.

***********************

Homeland Security: Louis Farrakhan, leader, Nation of Islam (he is not a Muslim!). Let's face it, this guy is seriously tough. I don't think we need to discuss this further.

**********************

Veterans Affairs: John McCain. Well, he's a veteran. Maybe the only one Obama knows.

*********************

Commerce: Pingpong entrepreneur Robert Blackwell, Jr. He has experience getting grants from the State of Illinois and obviously knows how to make a buck investing in Chinese-type things.

***********************

Transportation: Motorcyclist Timothy Emerson, 41, of Iowa Falls, who was involved in a crash with a campaign van carrying Michelle Obama. He was cited, but this way, he won't sue. This is how they do it in Chicago. You gotta problem? www.swamppolitics.com/news/politics/ blog/2007/10/motorcyclist_in_michelle_obama

*********************

Education: William Ayers, Professor, University of Illinois-Chicago Circle
Department of Curriculum & Instruction

Ayers, W.C., Bernadine Dohrn, Jeff Jones (2006), eds. Sing A Battle Song: The Revolutionary Poetry, Statements, and Communiques of the Weather Underground 1970-74. New York: Seven Stories Press.

EDUCATION
1987 - Ed.D, Columbia University, Curriculum & Instruction
1987 - M.Ed, Teachers College, Columbia University, Early Childhood Education
1984 - M.Ed, Bank Street College, Early Childhood Education
1968 - B.A., University of Michigan, American Studies

See www.billayers.org.

************************

Please feel free to contribute your thoughts on the cabinet post nominations or suggest people for necessary government positions like Postmaster General and Surgeon General and National Security Advisor. Obviously this is just the rudimentary stage, and whether these go through depends on lot on how much power Harry Reid retains in the Senate if Obama is elected in November, 2008. Can he get a Democratic Senate? I think Republicans will have no problem with Sam Nunn, but we aren't sure about the others. I hear a lot of Republicans are psyched by the Obamagirl.

The highly coveted Religious Advisor Position remains open.

Several chapters from Charlie Beckett’s forthcoming book, SuperMedia: Saving Journalism So It

Several chapters from Charlie Beckett's forthcoming book, SuperMedia: Saving Journalism So It Can Save The World, are available online.

The core of the book, published by Blackwell books on May 20, is the idea of Networked Journalism, which Beckett describes as:

Networked Journalism is a description and an aspiration. It reaffirms the value of the core functions of journalism. It celebrates the demand for journalism and its remarkable social utility. But it insists on a new process and fresh possibilities. It means a kind of journalism where the rigid distinctions of the past, between professional and amateur, producer and product, audience and participation, are deliberately broken down. It embraces permeability and multi-dimensionality

It is clear that, as Beckett argues, journalism is an unique moment. In his introduction, he sets out the context for journalism:

News information has never been more plentiful and journalism has never been more abundant

Journalists have never had more resources to reach people, anytime, anyplace, anywhere – and the audience has unprecedented accessibility to the news media

Journalism has never been more necessary to the functioning of our lives as individuals and societies and for the healthy functioning of global social, economic, and political relationships

There is the technological, educational, and economic potential for a vast expansion of journalism’s impact and for that impact to be beneficial

In this context, I would argue that the nature of news changes, from being a destination to a journey. Networked journalism is not just about the means of production, but also about how people get their news.

As I have written before, a piece of journalism is one stop on a journey of distributed information.

I'm looking forward to reading Beckett's book.

I have a Ph.D., teach at a university in a "progressive" discipline (history) and make somewhere around $75,000 a year. I am white, but do not carry around race and class fears that people like Rev. Wright bring out in many people. But I did not vote for Obama in my primary, an early Super-Tuesday one at which time I thought of the candidates as "close" in ideas. I opted for "experience" but I had nothing against Obama except that he was unvetted and I didn't see solid policy behind the calls for "hope" and "change."

At the time, I thought, Obama will be ready in 8 years. He'd be a great person to take over after Hillary held the White House for 8 years. By then, he'd have been in the Senate to establish a track record; he'd have made Washington connections that are necessary to get your ideas through (like or not, that is just a fact--you can't really be a Washington outsider and get your bills passed by Washington insiders); and he would have matured so that his policies would be solid. I didn't want him to lose his idealism, but just to have some experience.

I like and trust Obama much less now. Like a lot of people, I was left cold by remarks like "typical white person," but I can forgive it. I don't think Rev. Wright is crazy, but I do think Obama's denouncing of his pastor shows a lack of character on Obama's part. Stand by your man. He wasn't saying anything different. You can say you don't agree with everything, but don't say you'll be with him and then toss him, as they say, under the bus. But no politician lives up to "character" scrutiny very well. Obama does need more vetting in this area, which he will have after 8 years. If he survives that scrutiny and gets a little tougher (he's kind of thin-skinned about criticism), he could be ready in 8 years.

The real issues with Obama are the issues. He is a smart man. But because his bid for the presidency came out of the blue (even for him), his policy papers are either written by academics and not fully absorbed by him, or they are half-finished. He has no good energy policy. His healthcare plan is not as comprehensive as Clinton's. He has not dealt with the problems of No Child Left Behind. He criticizes Hillary Clinton on her foreign policy statements as "realpolitik" and out-moded, but in fact there needs to be someone who can transition from a Bush "war on terror" to peace. Terrorists are real and won't go away, and he has no plan other than "diplomacy." Whatever that means in a context like this where terrorists don't generally sit down at tables in Geneva.

The United States is in a mess. One of the worst messes it has been in since the Great Depression. The quagmire Bush has us in makes "hope" and "change" a powerful message, but you just can't hope it will change. You need plans. Where is Obama's plan? How will he execute it when he has no executive experience? He touts his community organizing experience, something he did post-college and before law school. He has a little, very little, legislative experience.

Younger people sometimes sneer at "experience" and think old people just don't have a freaking clue. Academics often sneer at workers whom they admire when they write books but look down upon when they actually have to deal with one. Perhaps because I come from the working class and didn't go to college right after high school, I have a healthy respect for working people. Obama needs to gain some of that respect, and not just for working class whites. His policies actually don't address a lot of the needs of the black working class either. Frankly, class more than race divides America now, thanks to years of Republican rule.

I think American is ready to have a black president, and I am not suggesting we wait because America needs more time. I think Obama needs more time. (I think his wife needs more time to get used to the idea.) America has shown it is ready to "throw the bums out" but we need to bring in someone prepared to clean up the mess.

Let's take the gas tax situation. Obama has been critical of it as no solution, but mischaracterized what Clinton is proposing, which is not merely a gas tax holiday.

Besides using a windfall profits tax to pay for suspending the gas tax this summer, Hillary's plan includes:

• Stopping new additions to the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, be ready to release oil to counter market spikes;
• Cracking down on speculation by energy traders and market manipulation that are driving up the price of oil buy at least $20 a barrel;
• Pressuring OPEC to increase oil production, including by filing a WTO complaint against OPEC countries

There are multi-level solutions to our problems, every one of them, and her plans includes those steps.

If you want a successful Obama presidency someday, it makes sense to wait. I know the impatient supporters of Obama will not want to hear that message, but I am a 49-year-old geezer with radical tendencies and sometimes, patience is a virtue.

The Keith Larson Show airs on WBT radio in Charlotte NC. The NC primary, is Tuesday, May 6, 2008. Larson tells it like it is and has been revealing the real Barack Obama, including, but not limited to the hate filled, anti American, anti semitic sermons and speeches of Jeremiah Wright. I have contacted Keth Larson with some additional information abot Obama. Since Larson is a champion for the truth and the best for this country, I expect he will cover these facts about Obama that the MSM is covering up.

Here is the email that I sent Keith Larson:

Michelle is a kind of Barameter, giving voice to the things that the candidate can't or won't say. While he denounced Rev. Wright, she only said she agreed with Barack ("He speaks for both of us."), and she looked distressed (as I would be if my spouse made me leave my pastor).

From a North Carolina rally, Michelle admits that Barack has something his supporters seem to think he doesn't: ego, anger and frustration: "Barack is always thinking three steps ahead – what do we need to do to make change." Her husband was thinking "I can't let my ego, my anger, my frustration get in the way of the ultimate goal," she said. "Barack has been characterised as many things that have nothing to do with who he is." http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/uselection2008/1924872/Michelle-Obama-Barack-has-hit-boiling-point.html

Right, he has been characterized as a man without ego, anger or frustration. I don't mind that he has these things, only that there has been this pretense that he is above all that. And after winning Guam by 7 votes (isn't this known as a TIE?) he ought to be happier, but he predicted a blow out there. He has also been characterized as a Messiah, something Michelle also said he isn't.

In another "hallelujiah" book by an Obama supporter, A Bound Man: Why We Are Excited about Obama and Why He Can’t Win, Shelby Steele, an intellectual who like Obama had a white mother and black father, writes that Obama’s iconic status as an inspirational African-American also represents his biggest weakness.

Steele argues that Obama offers white voters a chance to free themselves from white guilt, but if he becomes too specific about policy or shows flashes of anger about injustice, they recoil. Obama looks “messianic” set against “the shame of America's racial past”.

If you are an icon, he writes, “you have thoughts to touch everyone’s base, thoughts that recognise and flatter everyone. But you have few visible convictions”.

Anything that helps bring Obama down to earth serves the purpose of reminding voters that he is 1) a politician like all other politicians and 2) a man without an policies or convictions. As Steele said, it works against Obama-as-messiah for him to have any policies.

Just to throw a little TNT on the fire of Barack Obama’s burning election hopes, a new story h

Just to throw a little TNT on the fire of Barack Obama's burning election hopes, a new story has come out about how Sen. Obama received more than $100,000 from a donor whom Obama then helped obtain a state grant.

According to the Los Angeles Times, when Obama was an Illinois state senator, he began receiving an $8,000-a-month retainer from Robert Blackwell Jr. to provide advice to his technology company Electronic Knowledge Interchange.

At the time, Obama was struggling with debts from an unsuccessful bid for Congress, and he was so strapped for cash that his credit card was rejected for a rental car at the 2000 Democratic Convention, according to Obama's book "The Audacity of Hope."

The monthly payments from EKI supplemented Obama's state Senate pay and finally totalled $112,000, according to NewsMax. Yet, Obama's disclosure forms for 2001 and 2002 did not specify that EKI was the source of most of his private-sector compensation, the Times reported.

According to the Times story: “A few months after he received his final payment from EKI, Obama sent a request on state Senate letterhead urging Illinois officials to provide a $50,000 tourism promotion grant to another Blackwell company, Killerspin.”

The day after writing the letter, Obama received a $1,000 donation to his Senate campaign from Blackwell.

Killerspin, which promoted table tennis tournaments and gear, eventually received $320,000 in grants between 2002 and 2004 to subsidize its tournaments, the Times reported.

David Axelrod, Obama’s chief political adviser, denied the story: “Any implication that Sen. Obama would risk an ethical breach in order to secure a small grant for a ping pong tournament is nuts.”

Obama's Web site reports that Blackwell is committed to raise $100,000 to $200,000 for the presidential campaign.

Obamites will no doubt vivisect, downplay and rationalize this story, but for thinking people, this fits right into the pattern we've seen from the self-annointed agent of "change" and "hope."

Anyone started a pool yet on how many days till Obama drops out?

I read an interesting blog over on TexasDarlin's site reporting on an article that appeared in the LA Times recently involving Obama and Blackwell. The LA Times reports that following an unsuccessful run for Congress(2000) Obama was stressed financially and Blackwell, an Obama donor, awarded him an $ 8,000/month fee (retainer) to provide legal advice if needed (2001) to EKI (Blackwell's company) via the law firm Obama was working for. The total amount collected by Obama according to the LA Times was $112,000. The articles authors write, "A few months after receiving his final payment from EKI, Obama sent a request on state Senate letterhead urging Illinois officials to provide a $50,000 tourism promotion grant to another Blackwell company, Killerspin." It also was reported that the total amount of state grants awarded to Killerspin was $320,000 (2002-2004).

The LA Times staff reports address Obama's tax returns for 2001 - income of $98,158 ($80,000 via Blackwell's company) and for 2002 $34,491 ($32,000 came from legal assignment). The article continues to point to an interesting fact, on Illinois ethic disclosure forms for 2001 and 2002 Obama did not specify that EKI provided him with the bulk of his income, instead, he listed all the law firms clients (hundreds) my guess is not to draw attention to EKI.

Was Obama's legal services to businessman Blackwell, money laundering? Consider the following:

"The disclosure today in the Los Angeles Times that Barack Obama laundered money through a law firm to conceal the source of his income while an Illinois state senator is the “smoking gun” that is going to doom his candidacy."

"The Times details how Obama was still “of counsel” to his former law firm, but that he was not providing any services to that entity. Then Obama made a deal with Blackwell, and wanted to conceal that Blackwell was supporting him. So Obama “laundered” the “legal fees” by running them through the law firm and then issuing a list of the law firm's clients-none of which had anything to do with Obama--to disguise the Blackwell money in a laundry list of hundreds of unrelated “clients.” This was a classic case of money laundering and business fraud. Obama wanted to conceal the large sum he was receiving from Blackwell, so he concealed that Blackwell was the source of his income by pretending he was providing services to the law firm’s other clients. Utter fraud. “Barry O” ain’t stupid, he’s slicky and tricky, and he’s a ticking time bomb for the Democratic Party."

Plenty to cover since a long weekend in Leeds removed me from the peace and tranquility of London. Caddick's injury doesn't sound too serious from the official site but the trouble with backs is that they flare continually. Hopefully it will settle down enough for AC to play his full part in this season but it's a real worry. Naturally, this places the spotlight on other seamers such as Steffan Jones and Ben Phillips who were amongst the wickets in the FPL win over Hants.

Nice to kick off with a win and Ian Blackwell won the plaudits for his 86* and John Francis weighing in with 48 not out. Both batsmen are in decent nick and it was interesting to see Kieswetter shunted up to open - with a circumspect 49 a fair start. Not sure I'd be too happy though if I had gone expecting KP to be in the Hampshire ranks. Sure he was eligible according to the ECB but guess he was too busy railing against his exclusion from the IPL.

Which leads me to neatly onto moneygrabbing. OK, a little harsh but it sits uncomfortably with me when players who represent their country, and are paid handsomely for doing so, whine about missing out. Yes, obviously if I had the chance to cash in so ludicrously for a few months work, I'd be looking to get a slice of the action - but over recent weeks, it seems cricket has fallen out of the spotlight in favour of how much money cricketers can earn. Whether welcoming a $10m-mini series against a West Indies side or moaning about not playing in the IPL, a few of the England side should realise that there are plenty in county cricket who are banging on the international door and the incumbents are not as safe as they think they are.

...and finally...the ECB has revealed the England Performance squad for 2008 and unless my eyes deceive me, no Somerset players are in the group which means they have everything to prove and Hildreth, Trego etc are still sadly some way off:

England Performance Squad: Ambrose (Warwicks), Anderson (Lancs), Bell (Warwicks), Bopara (Essex), Broad (Notts), Carberry (Hants), Collingwood (Durham), Cook (Essex), Flintoff (Lancs), Harmison (Durham), Hoggard (Yorks), Key (Kent), Mascarenhas (Hants), Mustard (Durham), Panesar (Northants), Pietersen (Hants), Prior (Sussex), Rashid (Yorks), Shah (Middx), Strauss (Middx), Sidebottom (Notts), Swann (Notts), Tredwell (Kent), Tremlett (Hants), Vaughan (Yorks), Wright (Sussex).

Well, slowly winter is receding and the cricket season is edging ever closer for all of those who have spent the winter either glued to Sky TV watching the action from Sri Lanka and New Zealand, or thumbing through old Wisdens looking for the stats on Alfonso Thomas. April will soon be here and then it's the warmups, university games and into the Hampshire match. Somerset's balance will differ in ODIs to four day cricket but who's likely to start in the County Championship? I haven't been scouting the squad since training commenced but here's my 2p worth....

Trescothick, Edwards, Langer, Hildreth, Blackwell, Trego, Kieswetter, Munday, Turner, Caddick, Willougby

A side with pace, spin, deep batting and plenty of experience. The good news is that the squad has ample cover with the likes of Francis, Banks, Thomas, Jones, Philips and Durston all pushing hard for places.

So...who will it be?! What do I know...but roll on the new season...

Last night, ESPN Classic began re-airing the 1980's 1 hour wrestling show AWA Championship Wrestling. All in all, it was a watchable show. It was certainly more enjoyable than the UWF shows they were airing, though part of me wish they would air the UWF shows and the AWA shows. More wrestling never hurt anyone. Let's take a brief look at the first rerun of AWA on ESPN Classic.

March 4, 1986

Shawn Michaels vs. Buddahkhan
This was Shawn (Sean) Michael's debut for the AWA. He wrestled a black guy who I have never heard of, Buddahkhan. Michaels, being the new guy, was met with boos from the crowd. Michaels completely dominated the match, which was about 7 or 8 minutes long. It started a little slow, but by the end was as entertaining as a one-sided match can be. Michael's nailed Buddahkhan with Sweet Chin Music, er Superkick, and then scaled the flimsy ropes to deliver an impressive splash for the 1-2-3. An entertaining start to the AWA airings on ESPN Classic.

Commercial Break

Scott Hall vs. Doug Somers
One half of the AWA Tag Team Champions, "Big" Scott Hall was accompanied to the ring by his tag partner, Curt Hennig. Hall certainly had a different look in 1986 than the look he had as Razor Ramon or while in the nWo. "Pretty Boy" Doug Somers (Summers) got in some decent offense. The match was won by Scott Hall. Decent enough, though made more entertaining by the fact that it was a different look at a guy I've always been a fan of.

Commercial Beak

After the break, Scott Hall says Doug Somers is a good wrestler who isn't to be taken lightly. Curt Hennig then talks about Stan Hansen, and challenges Hansen to grant a title match to either Scott Hall or himself. Curt Hennig is my all-time favorite, so this was cool.

Commercial Break

Marty Jannetty "highlight" package. Awful, just awful.

Marty Jannetty Interview Segment
Larry Nelson and Larry Zybyszko interviews Marty Jannetty. Actually, Marty spoke very little while Zybyszko ran him down as trying to appeal to the "kiddies" and not being able to a hear a word Jannetty was "mumbling". It was Zybyszko and Jannetty talking, wasn't very good. Although Marty did say he was forming a tag team with Shawn Michaels, called the U.S. Express.

Commercial Break

A clip from the previous week's show was shown, with King Kong Brody (Bruiser) and Sheik Adnan Al-Kaissie beating up "Crusher" Jerry Blackwell. This resulted in us getting a brief look at Leon White (Vader), who came to the ring to help Blackwell.

Commercial Break

Jerry Blackwell vs. Boris Zhukov
Jerry Blackwell is a big, big man. He didn't suck though, so there goes that stereotype. He wrestled Boris Zhukov, a member of Sheik Al-Kaissie's "army". This was an entertaining main-event, which served as a sort of revenge for Blackwell for the previous weeks beatdown. The announcers kept trying to put over Blackwell's nose as being broken during this match, but the poor camera shots never got a decent shot, though it was bleeding. Blackwell won with a splash.

Commercial Break

After the break, Blackwell cut a really entertaining promo on Sheik and Brody that was, in a way, the highlight of the entire show. After the promo, the show went off.

It was something different, and something I've never seen before. It was decent and entertaining, certainly worth watching more off, although I really wish it came on at a decent time. It was fun, old wrestling though, and I'm certainly going to continue to watch it and maybe write more of these little brief recaps. Solid stuff.

Jane Iradelle Williams Blackwell

Frizzed chocolate hair parted centrally,
into a Grecian bun, covering the ears of a somber face.
Two soft, grey eyes carry the ocean to Marion,
where John has built her a house.

They met at a wedding in Wilmington;
she was kin to the Derizettes on one side,
and he on the other. It was his coal-black eyes
that drew her, round and half-pinned

under his cheeks like setting suns behind hills.
They were to be her daughters’ eyes also.
He built her a kiln, behind the house,
outside of town. She spent mornings

with her tiny china plates, brushing the bone
with the colors of wildflowers:
deep purple, hanging foxglove on its tall
stalks, among trumpet-vines and grasses.

Moving to the love goddesses’ fly-traps,
bluebells and honeysuckle, with its languid
tongue-petal, inviting children to pull
the stamen from its heart, and press

their lips to the hidden end, she chronicled
the wildflowers of her Carolin’.
In her wedding photo she held, among
the white roses, cat-tails and goldenrod.

Alchemical Hypnosis

You hiccupped and kicked, beat me
mercilessly. You never slept.

Dr. Gamble quartered off my back
in sod-squares, needling the world
in boxes across my skin, waiting
for red swells to crack the surface.
Striking words from his list: shellfish, Styrofoam, hair, dust.

The glass vials were to grant me breath.

I would whisper to you, my flutter,
my unknown daughter, unknown even as girl:

You will die.
Or your hands
will be withered
like Hibiscus, left too long in the bald sun.

Your tiny heart grows fearful,
intolerant as my skin.

(TREND HUNTER) Here I am posting a Victoria Beckham trend, but at least it’s a negative one. Blackwell, the fashion maven known for his worst dressed list, has put Posh at the top this year, saying "Forget the fashion spice, wearing a skirt would suffice!
Oh my gosh. The worst is Posh.

Spice.

Not Spears. Britney Spears.

Oh... right. Gotta be dressed to get voted Worst Dressed by Blackwell. Guess he wasn't too impressed with the constant hiney cheek and pantyless crotch shots.

So he gave top billing to Mrs. Beckham. And none at all to Britney.

Britney is so mad about not even making the list that she traded her car for Posh' british accent. She might have had more luck had she traded in all those beer cans - full and empty.

meow.
