Triple 8s. Triple the luck triple the fun. As this day marks a very special day on the calendar two

Triple 8s. Triple the luck triple the fun. As this day marks a very special day on the calendar two events i am aware of would happen this 08-08-08. One is an event i had never gone to before and the other is my comfort zone, a sweet escape i found when i was down and blue but being reborned this time.

I love trance and house music and my hubby is a fanatic too. Not just a fanatic but also party goer to trance parties. Yes, you got the right thing in mind. Tomorrow will be Big Fish's God's Kitchen @ A-Venue in Makati Ave. In as much i am afraid of crowd that i will be going tomorrow, i chose it over my sweet escape. This event is important for my hubby and i will show my support by being with him. This plan of going to big fish was set a month ago and just one more night, it's the big night @ the big fish. I am anxious because i am not used to go to such parties and such crowd where almost everyone struts their style and fashion and everything else. Hinde kase ako ganun. Ngaun e talagang kinakabahan na ako what could happen tomorrow. I don't even know what to wear and if what i am thinking to wear is appropriate. I just hope everything will be fine with my hubs by my side, well, that is to be classified pa, syempre party yuna nd andun lahat ng party friends nya so may possibility talaga that at some points in the event i could be left alone and secluded from the rest. :( However, marami nga nagagawa ang pag-ibig sa taong nagmamahal, i will still push through with my hubby tomorrow with the hopes of having a great time together for the first time for a big event. Here's the poster for the Big Fish's God's Kitchen Worldwide:

[caption id="attachment_177" align="aligncenter" width="212" caption="First Event Together With Hubby"][/caption]

The other event that will be taking place on 08-08-08 will be the launch of Pink Republic Bar formerly known as El Nuevo Boracay 1 found in Tomas Morato. The Pink Republic Bar will be situated in Tomas Morato corner E. Rodriguez Ave., just beside Shell Gas Station. This was my sweet escape before when my previous relationship ended up. I spend nights here drinking and laughing with the performances. After which i gained true and sweet friends here. I would have chosen to go here if it was not 08-08-08 because i had given my word already to my hubby. And my friends just sent the invite to the new bar last monday night after 1.5 months of asking them when will it open. The short notice for me will not work as i will not argue the event with my hubby. Here's the Launch poster for PInk Republic Bar, however, it is dated July 12, 2008. This was the former date that the bar will start operating but was pushed until 08-08-08.

[caption id="attachment_178" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="El Nuevo Boracay 1 to Pink Republic Bar"][/caption]

As this day ends, 08-08-08 begins, will i be lucky this day? Will the triple signs of eternity and good luck prove its charm? I dunno. I just wanna be with my hubby.

What they don't tell you is that when it starts again, it moves extra fast to catch up."

Will Bloom: "You're like Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny combined - just as charming, and just as fake."

Amos: "You were a big fish in a small pond, but this here is the ocean and your drownin'. Take my advice, go back to Puddleville; you'll be happy there."

Dir by Tim Burton

Big Fish is a heartwarming fantasy film aimed to give adults a few chuckles and instill a since of wonder in the rest of us. Less magical realism and more fantasy, one of Burton's less gothy films delivers a fresh story about trying to find the truth in a man who can only tell tall tales.

Will Bloom, middle aged and about to have his first son, talks to his father the first time in three years after hearing his father was on his death bed. Knowing his father's exaggerated and untruthful stories by heart, he demands to know the truth. Ed Bloom, his father, insists that his stories are real. The movie fades into flashbacks to show Ed Bloom's life from the hero of small town Ashton to present day. Ranging from 15 foot giants to talking fish, Burton touches on a lot of fantastical elements to add onto the magical element of his travels.

While the story itself is an interesting one, the relationship between the father and the son doesn't seem believable. It is aimed to show the strained relationship, but I don't see one at all, even in the tender moment in the end. Fantasy also seemed to be added as an afterthought. I went into this movie believing there would be all sorts of whimsical elements embedded flawlessly into the film, but all I got were bright colors and dreamy sequences. The cuts between present and past didn't work well, as if I were watching two different movies: one real and a little boring, the other bright and exciting. It was missing a connection when it flashed back, and old Ed Bloom doesn't seem to embody young Ed Bloom (yowza, Ewan McGregor) at all. Also the magical parts seemed a little strained, like it had no reason to be magical at all. It was just being magical so that it could say it was being magical. Also, I hated Ewan's grinding unconvincing southern accent. BUT, Helena and the son's wife's roles made up for the little things that irked me.

Still, an interesting story that picked up in the last half and finished with a cute, feel-good ending. 2.75 stars for a good story and delicious quirks. And especially to Helena Bonham Carter's slanted house.

con: Ewan McGregor, Albert Finney, Billy Crudup, Jessica Lange, Alison Lohman, Helena Bonham Carter, Steve Buscemi, Danny DeVito, Marion Cotillard, Miley Cyrus

Evening time on Saturday’s are generally good ones to watch movies and I could not help but remain hooked to two movies.

The first movie I watched was “ I am David”. The story was of the life of a boy who left the concentration camp filled with brutal memories of war and death and how he learns to smile one day. While watching this movie it reminded me of the other day when me and my friend Akhilesh were walking down the Norwich street, we met up with an old lady, she appeared lost, not sure where her next destination would be, her eyes greeted us with curiosity and we could not help her much but exchange a casual “Good Morning, How are you?” in the most cheerful tone. It did cost us nothing, but she felt a bit more relaxed and shared a smiling glance at us. Anne Holm in his 1963 written novel has similarly portraited David’s life. David grew up in the concentration camps seeing deaths as the most obvious sights everyday, this made him have the most unsual eyes which any painter finds tough to depict and explain!

How many a times we come across such interesting expressions in our regular journey by tube ? I know , we live by our own worries and curse our destiny for our miseries, only perhaps if we could know the more deeper sorrows hidden in the many Davids around us, the eyes we look at but could not comprehend what it means, it could be the eyes of agony or pain or of confusion and mistrust……there might a hidden language telling us a story !!!

The next movie I watched was “Big Fish”. It depicts the picture of a story telling father Edward Bloom who tells the most simplest of stories of his life with unusual fantasies and creativity which his son , Will, never believes. The movie is a store-house of simple philosophies of life with the message of helping everyone and leaving your footprint in someone else’s life with sheer determination and honest effort. While watching this movie I could not help thinking of 3 years back when one my mentor Sir Aravind Srinivas, asked me , “What would you like to be ? A Big Fish in a small pond or A small fish in a sea and growing up to a Big Fish one day” Well, I chose the later , It was not that the transition was a smooth one, I am spending lot of my times making mistakes , but every mistakes only teaches me one new secret which might help me becoming a Big Fish one day. Looking around me I find today lot of my friends are constantly lost in conflict whether they would stay in the Small Pond and live like a Big Fish, or get lost in the challenges of the sea and struggle everyday to become a Big Fish someday. I know there is nothing like a perfect answer to solve this dilemma, all I hope that we keep recognizing the effort the Big Fish has made in a small pond and helping all the small fishes, in whatever way we can, to become a Big Fish in the sea one day. Who knows!!! someday you may become a Big Fish in the sea in this process!!!

"Erzählt man die Lebensgeschichte meines Vaters, ist es unmöglich zwischen Fantasie und Wirklichkeit zu unterscheiden, zwischen Mensch und Mythos. Am besten erzähle ich sie so, wie er sie mir erzählt hat. Sie ergibt nicht immer einen Sinn und das Meiste ist nie passiert. Aber so eine Geschichte ist es nun mal."

Will Blooms Vater Edward liegt im Sterben. Edward jedoch bleibt dabei - all seine fantastischen Geschichten seien genau so geschehen.

What?????? Behaviour... is hard to explain, but now people decided to decorate their towns with old shoes pending from the power cables, exactly the way they used to do to mark drug points in the past or to celebrate a gang-related murder. In Bronx nowadays people still shoefit, and also hang other personal stuff, but the high fever is starting in Madrid. It seems that now people found another reasons to practice shoefiti. Do you think it might be the search for a magic land inspired on the movie BIG FISH?

There are so many different and great choices that you have when it comes to choosing a place to go

There are so many different and great choices that you have when it comes to choosing a place to go bass fishing, however by far one of the best options of all that you have is that of bass fishing Iowa. There are many different reasons for this, and so if you are interested in learning about why bass fishing Iowa is such a great idea, then you will want to read on to find out.

Why Is Bass Fishing Iowa Such A Great Idea?

There are many different reasons for this, but one of the most major reasons as to why bass fishing Iowa is so great and so successful for so many bass fishermen is because Iowa is a highly populated area in regards to bass.

There are always tons of bass there, all year round, and so really, regardless of what time of the year you end up going on your fishing trip, you are going to end up most likely catching quite a few bass.

As well, bass fishing Iowa is great because the weather there is always incredibly mild, and so you will never have to worry about getting too hot or too cold, and this is great because it allows you to be able to relax more and to just be able to worry about fishing and have a good time.

If you ask any bass fishing enthusiast, then surely they will tell you that Iowa is one of the best places that you can go to if you want to go bass fishing. Even the highest ranked professional fishermen choose Iowa as being one of their favorite spots, and so it is no wonder why it has become such a popular fishing location.

There are of course plenty of other spots that are great too, but Iowa definitely ranks up there in the top few locations in the world, in fact. Because of this, there are many fishing stores and fishing resorts that are available in Iowa, and so this is great too because then you have even less to worry about when you go on your fishing trips.

Just make sure that you plan ahead, so that you can find the best spot in Iowa, one that is not too busy but where you will still have great odds of catching a lot of bass. Also make sure that you are aware of all the fishing laws before you go there.

With mostly private money (from five hi-tech industry investors) and some public funds (Telefilm Canada, Industrial Research Assistance Program) behind it, Vivity Labs seeks to replicate the success of Nintendo's popular Brain Age game, which is also aimed at greying boomers and seniors, and Electronic Arts' Pogo, a game popular with boomer women. The company's partners include Vancouver's Michael Cole, who's worked in the brain fitness field for the past seven years; Dr. Paul Nussbaum, an American clinical neuropsychologist who specializes in aging; and Mark Baxter, a Vancouver games developer … Prior to the launch, Cole has struck a deal with health magazine Prevention to put three Fit Brains games on its website, and another that licences Fit Brains games with Seattle casual video game site Big Fish.

The site offers nine games with a tenth on the way, aimed mainly at users 40 and over. The games focus on language, concentration, logic and spatial skills. The site will remain in open beta until August, when a monthly fee will be assessed for accessing advanced features of the site.

"Primary exposition is telling and showing to the audience the time and place of the story, the names and relationships of the characters, and the nature of the conflict."

                                                                  Irwin R. Blacker
                                                                 The Elements of Screenwriting

"Within the first pages of a screenplay a reader can judge the relative skill of the writer simply by noting how he handles exposition."
                                                                   Robert McKee
                                                                   Story

Dramatically speaking exposition is simply the way you convey information.

Consider these facts:

I share a birthday with Slim Pickens.

I was born the same year as George Clooney, Meg Ryan, Michael J. Fox, Melissa Etheridge, Peter Jackson, Heather Locklear, Enya and Barack Obama.

I graduated from high school the same year and just a few miles away from the high school Wesley Snipes graduated from.

Not that I lump myself in with those well known people (okay, I just did -- but let's just say I'm not well-known or as accomplished like those mentioned) but I want to show you a form of exposition. I wasn't totally on the nose with the above exposition but it gives you a ballpark of how old I am. (Old, but not that old. Come on, Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, Sheryl Crow and Jon Bon Jovi are just a year or two behind me.) If you wanted to, with a little research you could put all the pieces together.

Exposition works best in films when it is sprinkled here and there and it doesn't feel like exposition.

Think of exposition like exposure in photography. It reveals a subject. When you take a picture of someone on film you expose a part of them. And every angle gives you a little different exposure or insight into the person. In a close up you might see a small scar on their face, from the side you may see a tattoo on their arm, and from behind you might see their hair is thinning.

In compelling portrait photos you’re exposing someone and giving little glimpses of who the person is. In your screenwriting it's best if your exposition is almost invisible so the audience doesn’t feel they are being spoon-feed info.

In real life people are constantly giving us exposition. Two pieces of real life expo that come to mind were in the form of a warning about other people. The first one came years ago when I was young and began a job wide-eyed and excited. A fellow who had been at the company a few years warned me about the president of the company; "Be careful there is a trail of broken relationships behind him."

That was a great bit of exposition given in a way that was fresh and allowed me to fill in the blanks without knowing the details. Another person I worked with said of someone we knew, "I know there is a good person in there wanting to come out." Great line.

And a fellow I once interviewed for a video told me, "The memories of my father could be put on the back of a postage stamp." That one lines says lot more than a typical movie scene than dumping a two-minute monologue on what a bad a father he had.

This week keep track of how exposition is given to you in real life and in movies and TV shows you watch. Detective shows on TV are some of the worst at dumping exposition on an audience because they have to front load so much information because they need to grab your attention early so you know what's going on before you change the channel.
"Okay, we think Joe did this because his girlfriend just broke up with him and he lost his job at the factory where he works and he has a hunting rifle that uses the same caliber bullet that was used in the murder." Then they often dump more exposition right at the end to explain all the details of why such and such happened.

Consider these great lines from movies that convey exposition in an excellent way:

"What was your Childhood like?"

"Short."
                                                                   Escape from Alcatraz

"What do you do with a girl when you're through with her?"
"I've never had a girl."
An Officer and a Gentleman

“Are you something else I’m going to have to live through?”
  Erin Brockovich

In one sentence we get a glimpse than Erin's been through some crap.

A key to writing good exposition is to only reveal what you have to reveal. We do this in real life. It's the guy who says after the fifth date when things are getting more serious, "Have I told you I have a kid?"

In Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid timely exposition comes just before there is going to be a shootout and Butch says to Sundance: “Kid, there's something I ought to tell you. I never shot anybody before. ”

Films often use exposition early in the film to set the stage as in Jerry Maguire where the Tom Cruise character explains what a sports agent does. (Speaking of Jerry Maguire, I loved how Cameron Crowe actually used exposition to avoid the usual spill-your-guts exposition when Dorothy tells Jerry, "Let's not tell all our sad stories.") The stuff you have to get out to set up you story is what Blake Snyder calls "laying pipe" and warns that audiences can only stand so much of that before they get bored with the technical jargon.

"Laying Pipe," is about how much screen time you must use to set up your story. In my opinion, audiences will only stand for so much of that. A good example of "too much pipe" is Minority Report, which does not get going until Minute 40. Why? Because this adaptation of the Philip K. Dick story requires A LOT of pipe! And to me, it torques the whole movie out of shape. So we must be careful. Just because we can lean on the built-in audiences that a beloved novel brings, we have to make sure we create a movie-going experience that resonates for everyone -- even those who aren't familiar with the book.
Blake Snyder

See how well exposition is handled in Man in Black: "What you do not smell is called iocane powder. It is odorless, tasteless, dissolves instantly in liquid, and is among the more deadlier poisons known to man." Mystery Man on Film says of this line of exposition: "Perfect. The pipe is laid, the audience knows the name of the poison, its properties, and how it works. More important, the audience knows how this scene is going to work — one of the men will die from ingesting the poison."

One reason flashbacks in general are frowned upon in screenplays is because they are often put there to simply be an info dump rather than being integral to the story.

In Field of Dreams, Kevin Costner's character says, “Dad was a Yankees fan then so, of course, I rooted for Brooklyn. But in '58 the Dodgers moved away so we had to find other things to fight about." Two lines that sums up his relationship with his father.

"But you have to be careful that your characters are not talking only in order to get information out. If you need to give the audience a bit of information, make sure to give the character his own reason to tell us about it. That's called making the dialogue organic to the character."
Alex Epstein
                                                                      Crafty Screenwriting

"Always ask yourself: Would the character actually say this, or is he only saying it because you need the audience to know some fact or detail? If the answer is the latter, you’re writing exposition and not dialogue. That’s not good."
John August
Big Fish

Save the best exposition for last. Of course, one of the best examples of this is when Darth Vader says, "Luke, I am your father." Other great memorable lines of powerful expo are "I see dead people" (The Sixth Sense) and "She's my sister and my daughter" (Chinatown).

Good exposition doesn't need to be spoken either. "Show don’t tell" is a popular Hollywood phrase. Films are visual. When Jack Nickelson’s character continually washes his hands in As Good as it Gets we get a hint that he’s a obsessive compulsive neurotic. We don’t need to have him explain to a character why he washes his hands. We don't need to see a flashback of him growing up in a dirty household where his mother didn't let him wash his hands in order to save on the water bill.

In Good Will Hunting, Matt Damon's character reads books in a room filled with books. We get a clue that he reads a lot. Simple visual exposition.

Sometimes you can use false exposition to lead the characters and audience astray as Norman Bates does in Psycho. Just because someone tells you something (and even believes it themselves) doesn't mean it's true.

Subtext is another way of masking exposition. Actors love to talk about playing subtext. That is what is being said beyond the words. Think of the many ways someone can say "I love You" and have it mean so many different things including "I hate you."

As you're writing and rewriting your script be aware of how exposition is being conveyed. Make ever effort to make the exposition seamless and there for a good reason.
