I had a lovely break away. The pictures are on flickr.

This was our spot - pitch 11. It was lovely. Tucked away in the corner. Lovely view of our field (ladymead) which wasn't densely populated throughout our stay. I enjoyed a bit of crafting in the sun. The weather was way better then the met office had previously led me/us to believe. It was, at times, quite quite sunny.

On Friday, we went to Bicester Village Outlet Shopping. Emma and I almost fell out over the pronunciation of the town. But we just about managed to pull it back. Phew. I was very lucky to find some fantastic brown work shoes from Clarks. Very very comfy. Sensible. A bargain. £20 from £30. And I really like them. But one day, I want a pair of campers. Camper shoes are very funky. I particularly like (and want a pair of) twins. Shoes which are not identical but compliment each other. These are cool. I also like these. And these. But these are my favourite. On the non-twin front, I like these although they are slightly loud for me. And these. And I really love these. There is also a bodum at the Shopping Village. I'm looking forward to making bunny shaped muffins with Leah very soon. Chocolate I think. Possibly banana. I also got a green mug. Cath Kidston didn't have any bargains that took my fancy so I bought a couple of pieces of fabric. Most satisfying.

Saturday was by far the best day. Me and Emma made no plans. As it happened, me and Miss Emily cycled into Adderbury. A most beautiful little village. I would love to live there. It's little. The post office is only open for two half-days each week. And the library is very pretty but very small. There is a small shop which bakes bread daily. Emma sat and watched a lovely waterfall for a while. It made a therapeutic trickling sound. We cycled for ages, enjoying the sunshine. I think I earned my chocolate lunch when we got back. At least my tea was healthy. And contained at least 200% of my five-a-day. Emma flew her kite in the adjacent field while I made stuff and did stuff. It was almost the perfect day.

Sunday we went to Banbury briefly. We'll go back next time and have a proper look around. We did find a chinese food shop. That was fun. An accessorize with some cute stickers. And a Laura Ashley shop. A set of three storage boxes, a bargain at £4 and a cross stitched 'home sweet home' wall hanging pillow seem to have made their way into my bedroom. Oh dear.

We will be back to bo peep. As soon as I get my placement shifts sorted, we'll be booking another long weekend. Can't wait. It's a fab place :)

Thames Valley Local Criminal Justice Board has secured funding from the Office of Criminal Justice Reform to run a local project to raise awareness and understanding of honour based violence and forced marriage issues as well as improving the service it provides to victims.

There have already been two honour killings in Oxfordshire alone and it is feared that honour-based violence and forced marriage issues are vastly under-reported given a lack of awareness of the help that is available to victims.

Honour based violence and forced marriage issues cut across many cultures and communities where that culture is heavily male dominated and where there is forced marriage there is also likely to be rape and domestic abuse. Honour based violence is also a child protection issue.

It is important to note that Honour Based Violence and Forced Marriage are not supported by any religion and that the problem cuts across all faiths. This is a cultural issue and all of the criminal justice agencies, as well as voluntary and professional bodies, have been working hard together to ensure effective joint working and understanding of the particular complexities associated with HBV and forced Marriage.

The Local Criminal Justice Board has therefore been working with all of the criminal justice agencies as well as schools, hospitals, social services and local councils to raise awareness and create a joined up response to the problem.

This project will culminate in a multi-agency conference to be held at the Kassam Stadium on the 28th March 2008 and will be opened by Baroness Scotland of Asthal. There will be representatives from all of the agencies involved. This is a positive step forward in breaking down barriers and ensuring joined up working to provide victims with the best possible support.

Laetisia Staniforth, Race and Diversity Officer for the Criminal Justice Board and coordinator of the project said:

”This is a really exciting opportunity to have so many agencies represented and working together on this important issue. Through this project the LCJB have taken the lead in responding to a local issue and adopting a partnership approach to improve service throughout the process.”

1. Laetisia Staniforth, Race and Diversity Officer of the Local Criminal Justice Board and Fiona Thomas, Communications Officer for the Local Criminal Justice Board are available for telephone interviews in relation to this project. To arrange an interview or for any further information, please contact Fiona Thomas on 01865 856392.

2. There will be a further press release giving details of changes in policy and working practices that have emerged as a result of this work.

3. This a joint agency initiative between the Crown Prosecution Service, Thames Valley Police, Her Majesty's Court Service, HM Prison Service and Thames Valley Probation Service.

We will be accepting all valid tickets on our services, including those valid tickets from other train operators who are unable to travel because of this engineering work.

We are also lengthening our trains to allow as many people as possible to travel with us. Our trains are likely to be very busy however, and so we thank customers in advance for their understanding if this is the case.

The lengthened trains will mean that trains won’t be able to stop at either Hatton or Lapworth as the platforms are too short, and so we will be running a bus service for these stations.
So went the old end-of-term celebration rhyme, putting Latin first in the list of things children would be glad to see the back of. Latin had a bad press for generations: it was dull, difficult and dead. Things have changed in recent decades: modern course material focussing on the rich variety of Roman life, film and video, TV dramas, documentaries and the internet have brought the Romans and their language to life.
IMPROVEMENTS FOR EUROSTAR TRAVELLERS AT PARIS GARE DU NORD

Eurostar, the high-speed train operator that links the UK to the Continent, today launched a series

Eurostar, the high-speed train operator that links the UK to the Continent, today launched a series of expansion works at Paris Gare du Nord which will improve the station’s Eurostar check-in area - delivering faster and easier access to the departure lounge for Eurostar travellers.

The continued success of High Speed 1, which opened on 14 November last year cutting Eurostar journey times, has seen a significant increase in the numbers of Eurostar travellers using the station. These works will improve the layout at check-in to make the flow of travellers smoother by introducing new check-in gates and increasing capacity through border controls. These changes, combined with an additional x-ray machine, will reduce queues at peak times.

The new check-in gates will accept bar-code ticketing which Eurostar will trial later this year.

The majority of the improvements will be carried out at night to minimise disruption to travellers and the project will be complete by the summer. Trains will continue to depart on time but as some short-term disruption may occur, Eurostar is asking travellers to allow 5-10 minutes more to check-in for their train, especially at peak times.

Simon Montague, Director of Communications, Eurostar, said, “With record numbers of travellers now using Eurostar these improvements are vital. Once they are completed, travelling with Eurostar will be even easier for millions of people each year.”

1. Eurostar is the high-speed train service linking St Pancras International, Ebbsfleet International, Ashford International, Paris, Brussels, Lille, Calais, Disneyland Resort Paris, Avignon and the French Alps.

2. Ebbsfleet International is a few minutes’ drive from junction 2 of the M25 and has 2,500 parking spaces, taxi and Avis car hire facilities. Eurostar travellers using public transport enjoy free travel on connecting Southeastern train services and Fastrack buses.

3. Travellers in southern England also have the choice of Ashford International station, which provides three services a day to Paris, a daily service to Disneyland Resort Paris and seasonal weekly services to the French Alps and Avignon.

4. Independent research has shown that a Eurostar journey between London and Paris / Brussels generates one-tenth of the carbon dioxide produced by an equivalent flight. Under its ‘Tread Lightly’ initiative, Eurostar has set a target of further reducing its CO2 emissions by 25% per traveller journey by 2012. Eurostar is the world’s first train operator to make all journeys carbon neutral.

5. Eurostar and Friends of the Earth are official partners in Britain, and collaborate on the development of Eurostar’s ‘Tread Lightly’ initiative, and Friends of the Earth’s ‘The Big Ask’ campaign.

6. Eurostar is a founder member of Railteam, a partnership between Europe’s leading high-speed train operators that is developing simpler ways to book and travel on the fast-expanding, European high-speed rail network.

7. Eurostar and Eurotunnel are entirely separate companies. Eurostar operates high-speed passenger trains, while Eurotunnel operates a vehicle shuttle service and the Channel tunnel itself. Eurostar is Eurotunnel’s biggest customer.

8. To book tickets for Eurostar, or to find out more information, go to www.eurostar.com, call 08705 186 186 or contact your travel agent.
