The Chain Gang

Riccardo Tisci wowed us this Fall/Winter season with a collection that is appropriately dark and gracefully romantic, with the hint of a gothic mood. Although the ultra fitted silhouettes bear a striking resemblance to Nicolas Ghesquière's previous Balenciaga collections, the Hispanic inspiration behind Tisci's take on the skinny trousers and tailored jackets is evident in the details. Draped in dramatic chains with crucifixes and softened with chiffons and ethereal blouses, the collection reflects this season's shift towards a more feminine aesthetic.

Nicolas Ghesquière is over the androgynous, skinny rocker boy look, and so are we! With the defined waistlines and emphasized hips of his pencil skirts and fitted dresses, curves are back on the runway. The look is femme fatale and 50s cocktail party...set in an austere Sci-Fi future. This season, Ghesquière's Balenciaga woman is powerful, yet uncompromisingly feminine and glamourous.

I find her illustrations very cute and beautiful. I loved when she did the ones for Balenciaga s/s 2008, the last season fever!

I wish she could make something for the blog, it would be nice, hm?

By the way, the last issue, the black one, is out already but I didn't have the time to go and buy it.

And I'm sort of stocking all this month's magazines to read during my 15 days vacation time I'm spending in Brazil, to begin next week!

Cherchez-bien, son visage vous rappelle sûrement quelqu’un (ok c'est pas facile, la photo est petite…). La nouvelle égérie de Gérard Darel est donc Mamie Gummer, qui n’est autre que la fille de Meryl Streep. Et elle fait quoi Mamie Gummer dans la vie ? Elle est actrice comme sa môman.

Et pendant ce temps, que fait Mon Petit Poney ?
Et ben, pas gêné, il va se fringuer chez Stella Cadente ! Vous voyez qui c’est Mon Petit Poney sinon ? Ce immonde petit cheval aux couleurs criardes, affublé d’une crinière et d’une queue censés symboliser une sublime chevelure…
A l’occasion de ses 25 ans (et là, soudain vous réalisez que vous avez connu le premier Petit Poney… aïe !) la créatrice de la marque lui offre 25 tenues (en vrai, elle customise 25 poneys). Parmi les modèles imaginés par Stanislassia Klein figure un poney "R'nB", une "French Cancan" ou encore une mariée. Est-ce que tout ça va arranger son look ? On n’est pas sûr…

Und noch ein Label holt jemanden Unbekanntes aus der Schublade. Nachdem Charlotte Gainsbourg ihren Werbevertrag bei Gerard Darel erfüllt hat und zu ihrem privaten Lieblingslabel Balenciaga übergewechselt ist, musste das Pariser Modehaus Ersatz finden.

Keine leichte Aufgabe, denn immerhin ist Charlotte ein Sympathieträger erster Güte. Man fand aber eine Nachfolgerin und wie ich finde, eine Würdige. Sie heißt Mamie Gummer. Kennt kein Mensch? Ja. Aber ihre Mama kennt jeder: Meryl Streep. Mamie ist auch Schauspielerin und hat scheinbar Mamas Talent geerbt, auf alle Fälle dreht sie am Stück und mit guten Kritiken. Sie schaut auch aus, wie Meryl in jung. Diese Dame gilt es zu beobachten.

Hier gebe ich der Werbung meinen Segen (Das da ist übrigens nicht das Werbemotiv, nur als Hinweis). Diese Mamie Gummer tut ja wenigstens etwas. Nur auf Partys rumhängen, wie Alice, kann ja jeder. Sorry, aber ich will einfach nicht akzeptieren, dass so ein it-Girl-Abzeichen reichen soll, um als Werbemodel Geld einzukassieren. Aber vielleicht bin ich auch nur neidisch.

Starting in the fall of ’07, Dolce and Gabbana’s hard metallic corseted belts threw the idea of structure and control in everyone’s face, as only they know how. Following up with their culturally fitting idea of the structural trend, the Dolce and Gabbana Spring ’08 collection displayed the transition of structure from fitted belts to carefully calculated stiff taffeta skirts. Recently we have noticed the silhouettes of garments expanding across the shoulders (a throw back to ‘80’s shoulder pads) as well as stiff and hard fabrics carefully arranged to mirror the body.

What does structured clothing say to the world? It say’s that the wearer is strategic, strong, and confident. And no designer understands that concept better than Balenciaga. Balenciaga’s spring ’08 collection showcased beautiful floral armor mini dresses with tall laced-up gladiator boots…I repeat...floral armor and gladiator boots… you don’t get fiercer than that! Balenciaga seemingly did it again and carried the theme of structure into their fall ’08 collection with a modern tone of space aged structured coats and perfectly shaped taffeta dresses.

You too can be part of the structure movement by getting yourself a pair of “gladiator” sandals, a blazer w/ some added punch in the shoulders, or a fun summer taffeta skirt. But more importantly, remember what structure stands for and be proud to be a woman at this moment in time.

During those last Paris Haute Couture Fall-Winter 2008/2009 shows, I’ve discovered the first Couture collection of Stéphane Rolland. Beautiful fabrics, no color, some shaded tons, a chic glam rock and refined cuts. An « inspired » collection with a religious bride, hands in pockets and traditional train. And many of you will ask me who’s that Stéphane Rolland ? 

Ma découverte des shows Haute Couture Automne-Hiver 2008/2009 : la première collection Couture de Stéphane Rolland. Absence de couleur et superbes dégradés, touche glam rock ultra chic et lignes épurées, à l’ampleur ajustée. Collection « inspirée » : mariée « christique », mains dans les poches et traîne traditionnelle ! Et certains se demandent qui est ce « nouveau venu » dans le club très privé de la Couture.

97 : the year he start to work as an Art Director for Jean-Louis Sherrer. He refreshes the different lines of Haute Couture and Pret-a-Porter and Accessories. He’s stayed there for ten years.

C for cinema, his passion : for five, he’s been the official partner of Festival de Cannes.

Comments: Top - WOW! Lilacs sprinkled with lily of the valley and doused with a citric fruit salad (maybe the peach/citrus combo). There is something about this that smells mighty familiar. Within 10 minutes - the rose takes over, with the lilacs helping. This comes across as much lighter than expected. And more like violets (though there appear to be none in the notes). 20 minutes in - the sandalwood appears. Reminds me of Bois de Iles. After 40 minutes, sandalwood, violets, a hint of powder, lilacs. Sticks around for about 5 hours.

Hardest decision I've EVER had to make.

So for my birthday in two weeks, my sister said she'd buy me something from Bloomingdales. I was like, okay, no big deal.

But I walk in, and I don't see any bags, so I'm like hmm.. maybe it's time for a wallet...no... a clutch.. no.. A ZIP CLUTCH.

I walk (run) and check to see what they have, when I find a super cute bright pink ZC. After milling around for a bit, I decide I have to get it.

I get home today, and my sister comes strolling in with her new sunnies. Tom ford sunnies. GOLD tom ford sunnies. and they are amazing. I fall in love. She gives me an ultimatum for my birthday gift from her....
