Well, I spent the last few days transferring an old VHS tape to DVD, then putting it in my 'puter, then editing it up all purdy like. This is from "Klondike & Snow", a somewhat old PBS documentary about twin polar bears abandoned by their mother and then raised by the staff at the Denver Zoo.

It's such a great program, PBS still airs it occasionally, usually during pledge drives. 3 years ago when I bought my copy, it was only available on VHS and was damn near impossible to find... now it's finally been released on DVD and you can buy yourself a copy from Rocky Mountain PBS.

You could also head over to Orlando and visit Klondike & Snow in person in the Wild Arctic habitat at SeaWorld.

The music is \"Garden of Simple\" by Ani Difranco ; if you're cool, you'll listen to it.

This adorable five-week-old polar bear is being hand-reared at the Nuremberg Zoo in Germany. Her name means "flake," as in "snowflake."

According to TimesOnline, zookeepers took Flocke away from her mother, because mom kept dropping her on the hard rock floor. They were also afraid Flocke would suffer the same fate as two other baby bears, who, just days earlier, had been eaten by their mama.

Not overly maternal, are they?

Last week, a cute polar bear cub was taken from its distressed mother at a Nuremberg zoo, to be raised instead by zookeepers. (The zookeepers had only just recently experienced another polar bear mother eating her young, and didn't want it to happen again. The public also pressured the zoo to prevent another possible infanticide, which provoked controversy, as mentioned in this report.)
