The department store chain today announced its 2008 back-to-school marketing campaign.

It features a slate of celebs--Lenny Kravitz, Avril Lavigne, Hayden Panettiere, Plain White T's, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and Vanessa Carlton.

Labeled 'Inspired by the Artists...worn by you,' the campaign appeals to a cross-generational group of shoppers.

Here are the brands the artists will be representing.

LET GO (2002) 3 STARS

For anyone who's already screaming "Enough!" whenever Avril Lavigne's supernaturally catchy single "Complicated" comes on the radio, the news is all bad.Let Go, the debut album from Ontario's tiny terror, comes fully loaded with another dozen infectious hymns of Total Request angst. Although it's the only track with a definable style other than "pop rock," "Sk8er Boi" is seventeen-year-old Lavigne's signature moment. Over a rush of nouveau-punk guitar chords, she narrates a funny story line (preppy ho disses young scofflaw, who then becomes MTV star and -- psych! -- Avril's boyfriend!), but none of it would matter if Lavigne didn't have a voice, equal parts baby girl and husky siren, that seems capable of setting off car alarms several city blocks away. "Mobile" should be her next completely inescapable hit: As Lavigne wails over crashing waves of acoustic and electric guitars, her big voice occasionally turns sideways in a drawl, a casual hint that she may actually be, of all things, a fine country singer in the making. Truth be told, Lavigne has a great voice, a good shtick and a qualified staff of hitmakers. We should all just learn to get along with her, because she's gonna be with us for a little while. 

UNDER MY SKIN (2004) 3 AND A HALF STARS

Avril Lavigne conquered the pop charts by refusing to get dirty. No skimpy clothes, no suggestive dancing, no tabloid adventures, no hip-hop collaborations, no provocative lyrics. She was both more defiant and more clean-cut than her peers: Her just-say-no message intrigued millions of kids while reassuring their parents.

But Avril Lavigne might also be the most inscrutable teen-pop star of all time. For the past couple of years, her army of Avrilites has been staring at her, eagerly and hungrily, and she has stared right back, betraying nothing. Even now, after the years-long media blitz that followed the extravagant success of her debut, Let Go, Lavigne still seems somehow unsullied by it all: a nineteen-year-old blank slate.

That blankness is what makes her best songs so irresistible. Whether it's a fit of faux punk or a maudlin ballad, she sings it all absolutely straight: You can hear whatever you want to hear. Her music is maddeningly (and admirably) difficult to categorize: The hit "I'm With You" had an almost imperceptible country twang, a vaguely new-metal melody and a chorus that wouldn't be out of place on American Idol, though none of the contestants would have had the good sense to sing it so plainly.

For her new album, Under My Skin, Lavigne split with Matrix, the team that wrote much of Let Go. Working with an unlikely crew of songwriters -- her guitarist Evan Taubenfeld and the Canadian singer-songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk -- she put together an album that's both more satisfying and more formulaic. Lavigne doesn't incorporate any new ideas on Skin; instead, she shines up her old ones, often multitracking her voice to make sure you don't miss the mile-wide choruses. The lead single, "Don't Tell Me," might be her most Avril-ish song yet, a petulant kiss-off to a horny boy. As the guitars get revved up behind her, she asks, "Did I not tell you that I'm not like that girl/The one who gives it all away, yeah/Did you think that I was going to give it up to you?" The syntax may be tortured, but the singer sounds just fine: a righteous prude, confidently fending off the creeps.

There's nothing here like "Nobody's Fool," the anomalous hip-hop experiment from Let Go. What hasn't changed is her meticulous delivery: She pronounces every syllable individually, avoiding the slurred consonants and distended vowels that singers often use to convince us that their lyrics mean something. All Lavigne delivers is the words and the tune, and it's often enough.

Some of the ballads are a bit vague, and Lavigne's deadpan approach doesn't help. In "How Does It Feel," she asks, over and over again, "How does it feel to be/Different from me?" You get the feeling she doesn't much care about the answer. Still, no one conjures up bored teenage blankness like Avril Lavigne. The album's best song, a raucous three-minute sprint called "He Wasn't," has a pretty vacant opening line ("There's not much going on today/I'm really bored") and a simple yet ambiguous chorus: "He wouldn't even open up the door/He never made me feel like I was special." The words are full of contempt and self-pity, but she sings them like she doesn't really care. 

THE BEST DAMN THING (2007) 3 STARS

You probably already know "girlfriend," Avril Lavigne's hypercatchy, giant-sounding "Hey Mickey" tribute. Guess what? The rest of her third album does not venture into death metal, industrial house or gypsy swing. Like most everything she's done, The Best Damn Thing is big, big, big, with teen punk and ballads getting shots of pop steroids -- as well as big doses of her usual sass, anger and vulnerability. There are few surprises here, but The Best Damn Thing is totally fearless about targeting pop radio and rather expert in its execution. Most of the slow songs sag, but "Girlfriend," the smitten "Contagious" and a handful of other uptempos are monster pleasures. Lavigne probably can't get away with this sound for another record, but enjoy the sugar rush while it lasts. 

Yeah. I know. 

There is, however, something I'd like to point out. The "stars" are the critics rating, but online there's also the listeners opinion : "Let Go" 4 Stars; "Under My Skin" 4 and a half Stars; "The Best Damn Thing" 3 Stars.

Wow. I mean...from 4/5 Stars to 3 there's a long way, and that only show the number of fans she disappointed. But I guess "Hot Girlfriend" doesn't care. You know, with all the money and "fans" worldwide...

Avril Lavigne...what the hell happened?! 

Avril Lavigne started in the musical business back in 2002. When "Let Go" was released, Avril was a fresh new face in a world where all the singers were showing their bodies and shaking their behinds (eg:Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera). A different style, not so sexy, but at the same time original and captivating. 

Sk8Boi and Complicated were the first videos to be released. They showed a rebellious, a skater, a funny and cool girl that would soon be idolized by millions of teens worldwide. Who says the only cool thing girl's do is to dance and dress tiny clothes? Avril doesn't. 

After, when I'm With You and Losing Grip were released, Avril showed us a more sensitive side, but she never lost her attitude. Beside, one thing everyone could admire was the fact that she had co-written her songs, which most artists don't at their debut.

Of course that the album couldn't escape a bit of controversy. I mean, come on, a sixteen-year-old girl jumping around and singing, calling herself a punk-skater? That had to lead to some seriously punk-skater fans to complain. Still, Avril didn't cared. When you're this successful at sixteen, who the hell cares about a few complains? 

Two years later, a new album was out "Under My Skin". This is actually my favorite, all the songs were much more intense, with more pop-punk influences than the first. 

Some of the lyrics were very depressing and sad, like Nobody's Home and Slipped Away, and others reflected some teen problems, like Freak Out. Anyway, I think that with this record Avril's return couldn't be better. I absolutely loved all the tracks and the "dark" theme of the entire record!

After this last success, Avril's gone two more years. I honestly thought she had given up being a singer, but then she re-appears. And there's only one thing I have to say about that - You were better gone. I mean...Avril Lavigne, the singer that I most idolized for her rebellious songs and original style?! Oh yes, when she returned she was original. But terrible.

GIRLFRIEND?! THE BEST DAMN THING?! HOT?! Kill me. I mean...where are the emotional lyrics of "Under My Skin"? The cool girl of "Let Go"? If I wanted a Britney Spears wannabe, I'd be a Rihanna fan, thank you!

Anyway, I understand that she couldn't go back to the girl she was. But she could at least keep her good taste in musics, no? Has she ANY idea of the old fans she disappointed with this album?

В ночь между выступлением в Вильнюсе, столице Литвы, и завтрашним выступлением в “Centennial Hall”, Аврил Лавин решила проявить свой дух патриотизма. Когда концертный тур проходил в Хельсинки, столице Финляндии, Аврил Лавин нелегально провезла с собой несколько коробок пиротехники. В пятницу, она решила воспользоваться этой пиротехникой и непредумышленно подожгла химическую лабораторию в средней школе.

Значительно выпившие музыканты и Аврил Лавин хотели повеселиться. Загрузив алкоголь и пиротехнику в один из своих фургонов, они отправились на спортивную площадку средней школы №14 города Вроцлав.

“Была ночь и поэтому вокруг никого не было” – сказала Аврил Лавин после того, как она уладила вопрос с местными властями, предложив им денежное возмещение и бесплатные билеты на своё выступление в субботу.

В течение часа, Аврил и участники её группы – Ад Берри, Родни Ховард, Джим ЭмСи Горман и Стив Фекет, выпивали виски и пиво, запуская при этом различные виды фейерверков.

“От первого взрыва выбило окно” – сказала Аврил. – “Было круто и на самом деле красиво – но потом, мы услышали этот офигенный взрыв, и всё вышло из-под контроля. Было такое ощущение, будто всё здание взлетело на воздух. Выглядело тоже круто, но это уже не входило в наши планы”.

После того, как хранилище с химическими препаратами внутри лаборатории было полностью охвачено огнём, крыша здания обрушилась, и на фоне ночного неба можно было наблюдать огромные клубы пламени и оранжевого дыма.

“Джим кричал – “Блять, это же полный пиздец!” – сказала Аврил – “А я ему говорю – “Да никакой это не пиздец, мудак – мы просто взорвали грёбанную школу!” Потом мы собрали все свои вещи и смылись. Аврил Лавин и музыканты её группы были заключены под стражу и удерживались в течение двух часов, прежде чем удалось связаться с адвокатом певицы, Хершелем Абрамсом. Абрамс отправил Аврил 25,000 долларов, которые ей пришлось заплатить, чтобы с неё сняли обвинения в преступлении. Остальные 300,000 долларов должны быть выплачены городу Вроцлав для восстановления разрушенных школьных зданий.
