I have a fancy dress party coming up and I'm finding it hard to think of an Idol or Legend who has the same kind of hair as me, dark and curly. I've been straining my brain about it for a while and I've thought of only a few things that will match me. I could straighten it and go as Cleo, but how boring and cliched. I could leave it curly and try to make some kind of robe out of sheets, and be Athena from Greek mythology. But I dunno, thats kind of iffy. I think my mums going as Cher, because she looks like her and everyone said all her life that they were the same so I could never do that one, its her thing.

An Idol or a Legend. Does anyone have any ideas? I wanted to go as Shakira but she bears a lot of skin and I don't think I'm down with that. Plus its going to be in a pub so thats just asking for trouble. Also, I'm not blonde. But I do love Shakira so much. Or I'd love to go as Ling Xiaoyu but I doubt I'd ever find an outfit for that without ordering something off the net. Please, suggestions are very welcome. I don't wanna be the square who didn't wear a costume.

The Simpsons creator Matt Groening described it as "a bad marriage of the Pillsbury doughboy and the ugliest California Raisin. In the US press, it was derided as anything from a "blue slug" to a "sperm in sneakers". *ouch* LoL!

BOTTLED WATER - There are increasing amounts of studies showing that bottled water is tainted with many pollutants. Many companies are rebottling regular old tap water, putting it in a fancy bottle, and reselling it to you. Many ways of purifying the water takes out all (or most) of the beneficial minerals that our bodies need (ie. reverse osmosis and distilled water). And, to make matters worse, the plastic that the water comes in is leaching toxins (anyone heard of Bisphenol-A?) into the water and polluting our environment in its manufacturing and disposal process.

TAP WATER - Much of the time, I can smell it.... especially in the spring, when there is alot of runoff. Chlorine. It is toxic and it is NOT good for your health. But that is only one chemical among many. Pesticides, herbicides, arsenic, flouride (which, incidently, has been proven to have no effect on the strength of your teeth when taken internally), parasites, other illness-inducing factors (remember the Cryptosporidium that made 6000-7000 people ill in North Battleford,SK?... or the Escherichia coli contamination in Walkerton that killed 7 people?), and -- newest to be discovered -- pharmeceuticals! Yes, it is a contaminant playground. I don't know about you, but I am not willing to risk drinking tap water on a daily basis. Even if David Suzuki tells me it is okay.

I am not trying to scare anyone. These are facts. All the info I just relayed to you has actually been studied. I am not willing to sacrifice my health just because I can't see it. Denying the problem will not make it go away.

**SO WHAT DO WE DO???**

I have an answer. It comes in the form of a fantastic water filter. You put it on your tap (no more plastic bottles!), and it purifies your drinking water! But not only that.... it also ionizes your water supply, giving you the option of raising or lowering the water's pH (potential hydrogen). The body functions better in a slightly alkaline state, so being able to alkalize your water is key. Also, the water is put through 2 filters: 1) for removing sediment; 2) for purification and the addition of minerals.

I happened to bump into a friend a little while ago who has been drinking this water and was raving about the results. I was a little *iffy*, but decided to look into the filter system. I am so glad I did!

Only Athena, who had grown weary of Zeus’s childish games, put off giving Pandora intelligence. Besides, she wouldn’t admit that her gift is necessary for a woman.

Well then, Epimetheus was a character who was certainly equal to his name, which means "thinking afterwards." When he saw the alluring Pandora, he made her his wife at once, oafishly ignoring his older brother’s advice that one should not accept gifts from the gods.

Pandora had an abundance of curiosity to make up for her lack of wisdom, and she ended up removing the lid of a box that everyone told her should absolutely not be opened because she wanted find out what was inside. When Prometheus noticed Pandora lifting the lid from the box, he let out a horrible shriek and made a desperate attempt to clamp it down, but the damage had already been done.

Some people say that all kinds of misfortune flew from the box and spread throughout the world, leaving only a thin glimmer of hope. According to another explanation, only unsympathetic "hope" was left behind after all the joys of the world flew from the box for destinations unknown. The truth, however, is that something a bit more troublesome occurred.

What left the box and spread throughout the world was misfortune for women. This misfortune was envy, and the women of the world were consumed by the desire to scratch at their hearts with jealousy when they realized that Pandora was the most beautiful woman to ever live. From then on, women rated each other’s beauty against their own and gradually came to hate one another. Prometheus was troubled by this situation, so he took self-knowledge from what was left in the box and scattered it among women. This elixir was too potent, however, and women, now aware of their own ugliness, started committing suicide one after another. It seemed that women would continue killing themselves until not one remained, and it would not do for Pandora to be left as the last living woman. Prometheus looked into the box once more and saw that "hope" still remained inside. Pleased with the clarity of his foresight, which he had put aside until that point, Prometheus sprinkled this "hope" over the women on the earth. As a result, the suicides stopped. Although women still hated each other, they stopped hating their own ugliness. Over time, women were able to exist by not thinking entirely of themselves.

Meanwhile, Epimetheus, completely unconcerned with the painstaking care of the human race that tortured his brother Prometheus, enjoyed his marriage to the childlike and innocent Pandora as if nothing had ever happened, and the two of them lived happily ever after.

Moral:
The gods gave women jealousy and conceit.

Software engineer Rex Jameson is pictured above wearing a "robotic soldier suit" that is an "exoskeleton" of aluminum and electronics that multiplies his strength and endurance as many as 20 times....The suit works by sensing every movement the wearer makes and almost instantly amplifies it.  Sarcos in Salt Lake City  Utah is helping the U.S. Army assess the suit's  viability for the "soldier of tommorrow"....

Which doesn't mean I don't appreciate the sacrifices made by the people who do serve in the military. My parents and several other family members have done so -- in war time. That's exactly where my discomfort stems from. I've seen the destruction that can be done to a young person's life when he (or she) is asked to do things no one should ever have to do.

You don't have to have a leg blown off to be handicapped for the rest of your life. And the scars last through generations.

It may seem as a great irony then that my personal path centers around devotion to Athena. 

But to me the greatest lesson of Athena is not being prepared to fight -- it's the wisdom and ability to avoid situations that call for it. The popular image of Athena is of the armed goddess -- but in truth, she called most often for moderation and self-control. The crafting of weaponry and skill in battle were to be called on only when no other options were left. (Confession: This is a lesson I'm still working on mastering.)

Which is all a long way of saying that today, on Memorial Day, I'll spend some time thinking about the people who've given their lives (literally or figuratively) to serve this country -- and hope that some day no one else will ever have to.

Este grupo es muy poco conocido, igual el menos conocido de los hasta ahora aconsejados. Los descubrí hace ya unos 4 años no recuerdo bien de que forma, aun que seguramente a través de alguna radio de internet.

El grupo fue una idea del batería Ross Lukather en el 2001, y se nota, por que es el que imprime el ritmo rápido que llevan todas sus canciones, y que los hace característicos. Aunque se les encuadra dentro del Power Metal, yo creo que andan más próximo al Speed Metal, genero que tanto y tan bien usan los italianos, sino miren algunas de las canciones de Rhapsody (ahora R. of fire).

Ross había tocado anteriormente en varios grupos de renombre en Italia, Death SS, Labyrinth y Athena. El resto de los componentes, en su mayor parte, eran anteriores compañeros de los grupos por los que pasó.

Para este año esta previsto que salga a la luz su nuevo disco, del que aun no se sabe nada.

El primer vídeo es del último disco, y los siguientes son la apertura del primero, que crea mucha incertidumbre, y en mi caso algo de ansiedad y miedo por lo que da la sensación que va a llegar, y algunas canciones más.

As for my aspirations to create the next billion dollar web appplication, and DHH's repeated recommendation that the odds are some type of equivalent to my becoming an overweight rockstar in my thirties ... Well, I'm definitely going to need a well designed strategy, and it certainly isn't going to be Ruby on Rails given the audience it was intended to service. Has anyone else been watching Twitter as of late? ...

This weekend, like last weekend and the one before that, I hope to get the Divmod stack up and running so that I can finally scratch this itch with regard to all that is Pythonic - Twisted, Twisted.Web, Athena, Nevow, Mantissa, Axiom, etc ... I believe these tools hold the most promise if one is setting out to create something new and different, and where the scope of the project extends outside the web browser. Browser standards and rockstar-like mojo are at odds, so I think in my case it's time to leave the browser in search of freedom from the least common denominator. In dropping the browser you at once free yourself from no less than 3-4 programming languages (HTML, Javascript, and CSS), and when you are programming at the advanced amateur level, that should make a monumental difference in productivity in the early stages. In my opinion, the HTTP protocol is really quite antiquated, and I think there are a lot of opportunities for the creation of cross-platform web applications that live outside of the browser and at once solve problems for the very same "Fortune 5,000,000" companies that DHH targeted with the initial Rails framework. All networking does *NOT* have to take place via web browsers ...
