Yeah, I know, I've really not been around lately. You'd think I'd be able to find a few minutes each day to sit and type, but you'd be surprised. :) There have been many interesting things happening around here, though. You never know when you'll round a corner and find this:

Or this:

Yeah. Interesting stuff.

Actually, we've been continuing to work on the garden many days. It is growing, although some friendly neighborhood rabbits ate our broccoli and peas. We took a trip to the Erie Art Museum (the When Trees Dream exhibit was especially nice) and to Chautauqua Institution for their opening evening music service. The kids really seemed to enjoy it! And we've been playing lots of music getting ready for the churches Songs of Summer service. I went to a MOPS retreat, too. I'm the publicity coordinator for the next year. Should be an interesting step up!

We had a cat for a few days:

She was found in our garden behind the kitchen. We think she might have been the offspring of a stray- no body claimed her anywhere on our street. I got to meet some interesting neighbors in my search... Apparently not everyone gets along around here. Luckily, she did not have to go to the shelter. A friend of a friend took her and she's doing well.

Here's what happens when you let your children dress themselves:

And when you let your four-year-old feed the baby:

Nice BIG bite!

The kids got a new play ground up at the camp and have been LOVING it!

And they've been practicing their drawing (click for details):

The first is K's first face! There are tiny eyes there... And then there's M's picture of Gaga.

And B got his first teeth. Yay!!!

So, yeah. We've been busy. I'll post more craftiness soon. :)

Hope you had a fun 4th!

Okay, I realised that I might be posting the same pics every week. LOL. So prata on Saturday was the best ever! Because it was the first time all 5 of us were present. Jiamin, Ben, Shuwei, Jason and I. So Jiamin finally got to taste the ice-cream prata for the first time! Lol! The best thing was, the ice-cream prata was finished within a few minutes. We were just tucking in ravenously! As if we were starving, when in fact, we had just finished our own pratas! ._.

Okay so, I realised that the trip to and fro wasn't as hard as previous ones. Maybe it is that I have become a little fitter, but the uphill parts weren't as tough as before! Yaye! And one thing I learnt is that, to enjoy the down slopes thoroughly, first, we have to go uphill. How true! To enjoy the fruits of labour, we have to labour for it, right?

So as I went down and down and down, with the wind blowing against me, it was a "sh-iok!" feeling! Yepp. And cycling in the middle of the road wasn't that bad either :D That stretch of road near AMQC, AMK St 60+ I think, is rather empty! We were just racing one another, like little kids. HAHA. Wdv. JIAMIN SEND PICS! THANK YOU!

So, yesterday I went swimming! Well, it wasn't exactly swimming. I only swam about 14 laps? We were more of gossiping. And talking cock. LOL. Went for lunch and then arcade! Didn't get to play bishi bashi because the rest didnt wanna play. But we played bball! My hands were aching like mad. Like, even more effective than the 14 laps I did. HAHA.

Alright. I shall do something constructive today!

Especially when you have a large family this can save tremendous time in the morning. Another idea is to have a coffee machine with a timer. First the smell of fresh coffee makes it easier to stand up and secondly you can immediately get some caffein to really wake up.

Khyra’s comment on my previous post got me thinking...

Is there something more to this flea thing?

The flea could be an initiation rite...why not? But then, as the flea had arrived in my fur via Lazy’s...Lazy held the key to this mystery. So later last evening, when Cameo and I went for the walk, I deliberately pulled Cameo towards Lazy who was lazing near Cameo’s car. Cameo thought that I wanted to go for a ride, so he told me that there wouldn’t be any car-ride until next Sunday! Then he realized that I wanted to speak to Lazy! The flea episode had shook him so bad that he tried his best to stop me from meeting Lazy, but I was adamant; and though I’m no German Shepherd, I can have my way if I set my heart to it! So I pulled Cameo along as I accosted Lazy!

“Lazy, what was this all about?” I asked.
“All what?” she feigned ignorance. With Cameo’s hold on my leash tightening, I knew that there was no time for subtleties. I had to be more direct.
“This stuff about sending the flea to my fur, what does it mean? Why did you do it?”
“Oh, that...” she yawned and drawled. The dam that I had built to stop irritation from flooding my mind, was about to burst! Couldn’t that joker see that I needed the answer fast!
“Yes. Is it a rite of some kind?”
I saw Lazy jump out of her coat. Khyra’s conjecture was not all that off the mark! The flea’s passage into my coat was deliberate and the street-dogs knew about it.
“Well, it is your ticket to freedom.” She said.
“What?”
“Yes. The flea symbolizes freedom from the leash. It symbolizes an existence beyond the control of humans. It is your initiation into street-hood!”
I was so angry that I could barely control myself. I bared my teeth and I snarled at her. “Keep your devices to yourself! Don’t try to mess with me. If you do it again, I’ll ensure that Cameo stops feeding you and your friends!”
“Hey, pipe down! Just tell me, do you have the flea still? If you have, then soon you’ll be one of us. This is the street-dog initiation rite!”

That was the last bone! I was about get her by the throat...but in a flash everything changed! Cameo had sensed the tension between us...and he scooped me into his arms, and carried me away from the scene.
So, Khyra was right. My conversation with Lazy made every piece of the puzzle fall in its place.
I was a street-pup once, and so I could make the connections easily. The flea transfer is an initiation rite for converting pups and society-dogs into street-dogs. I had not known about it as a street-pup because my mom must’ve considered me too young to appreciate it!
But safe in Cameo’s arms, I reflected upon the whole issue from a distance, and I felt that the bargain was in my favor...many times over!

Some people have dreams they want to remember or have ideas whilst in bed. It happened a few times to me that an interesting idea came to my mind in bed. Later I remembered that I had an idea but I could not remember the idea itself.

If such things happen to you from time to time the best thing is to have some equipment to write next to your bed. When something comes to your mind you quickly write it down and then you can continue sleeping but remember the next day.

Today me and my community nurse Barbara went to Manchester's Imperial War Museum North.

We went up the 161 stairs right to the top.

At the top of the building there is a floor covered with see through grills, so when tou looked down you could see the floor which was very low from where we was standing.

We also looked at some tanks and helmets and bikes and even a jet plane that went over 700mph that were all used in the war.

It had been a great trip so thanks Barbara.

To live with many dogs is to be part of a pack. Much emphasis is placed, in the dog training literature and media, on being the pack leader, keeping the many in line to exercise your will. By and large, this is what the pack leader does, and is paid back in adoration, grooming and being followed round by dogs. To summarise only thus far, however, is to ignore the functioning of the pack as entity and to consider the ways in which it expresses its collective will.

I may direct the pack, but the pack continually pushes back. Sometimes this is in straightforward acts of resistance: the rare not coming when called and the far more common pretending not to come when called. Sometimes the pack attempts to carry out surreptitiously what it has been told not to do. Have you ever seen a dog dig or chew while pretending it is neither digging nor chewing? Sometimes the pack will direct its junior members to carry out the forbidden acts. There are also more benign pressures. Many of us have heard the story of the pet border collies at a house party who, over the course of the evening, subtly herded all the guests into a cluster in the living room, then sat contentedly to survey their work.

If my pack had its way, my day would consist in staying very still in a selection of locations in which they could pile on top of me: the bed, the couch, the other couch. I would only get up to feed them or open the door. While pack law dictates that this wish cannot be directly expressed (by standing on the couch and barking at me, for example), it can be conveyed in other ways: through disappointed silence as I work at the desktop or in the kitchen for example; through polite and theatrically selfless waiting outside the bathroom while I shower.

Fundamentally then I see the pack as a sophisticated system that is both part of and extrinsic to its members, containing them, serving their needs and developing, over time, into a composite world view. My presence in the pack means that in many ways I live like a dog, sensitive to their social ordering and particular needs. In exchange for maintaining the pack's solidarity, I get to be the object of their affection. This works well for both me and the señor, the pack's adjunct senior member.

I got a flea!
I got a flea!
I got a…crazy, stupid flea!

I don’t get fleas. I am not that kind of dog! I don’t get mites, or ticks, or fleas…as I keep myself clean.

(Don’t ask me about Cameo and Mercury’s un-canine Oorvi-bathing efforts! They hardly solve any purpose! I detest shampoos and I don’t think how they can keep me any cleaner. They don’t seem to work on the humans or else why would they need to bathe every day!)

So, the question is – how did I get a flea. I think that I got it from Lazy. Lazy is probably the laziest street dog that you would ever come across. Street dogs are smart, they work hard to find their food; they work hard to defend their territories; and when they bear pups they work hard to take care of their pups! This isn’t the case with Lazy, who can be found sleeping at all hours of the day (and night.)

I think I got this flea from her, through Cameo. Cameo has this atrocious habit of petting dogs, especially those whom he meets everyday…and Lazy has fleas. I saw her scratching her ear! I tried to warn Cameo, but he doesn’t listen. Males of every species have some common characteristics, and a prominent one is that they don’t listen to females!

I hope that the flea shows itself when Cameo is around! It will prove my point and I assure you that he’s not going to be very nice to it! I am also confident that then on, he will not be as attentive to Lazy!

Signing off!
Oorvi.
