<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span class="texto1">O príncipe Charles não é alheio a debates sobre a preservação ambiental, mas não é por isso que deixou de ser um amante dos automóveis. Seu Aston Martin azul (foto), que já tem 38 anos de uso e lhe foi dado pela rainha Isabel quando Charles fez 21 anos, entrou na frota de veículos que usa biocombustível para se locomover. A grande diferença dentre os outros modelos menos poluentes é que o automóvel real britânico é movido a etanol derivado de vinho.</p>
<p>O etanol mais comum é obtido da cana-de-açúcar (Brasil), do milho (EUA) ou da beterraba (Europa), mas o vinho também está presente, como podemos observar. Ele provém dos vinhedos ingleses de Wiltshire. Como a União Européia estipula cotas de produção nas vinhas, o excesso produzido pelos britânicos é vendido à empresa Green Fuels, que, por sua vez, comercializa-o em forma de bicombustível com a Casa Real.</p>
<p>O Aston Martin em questão não é tão econômico (afinal, nós brasileiros sabemos que o álcool consome mais que a gasolina, não sendo necessariamente menos rentável) e tem médias de 3,5 km/l. Apesar disso, suas emissões de dióxido de carbono (CO<sub>2</sub>) são 85% menores que no modelo movido a gasolina comum, sendo ainda mais barato que o combustível fóssil. De todo modo, o preço do combustível não é a grande preocupação da família Real. Mas não pelo fato do excesso de dinheiro em suas posses, e sim pelo fato de o modelo rodar menos de 500 km a cada ano.</span></p>

But why crow publicly about something so inconsequential, if you think that global warming is (a) happening and (b) a problem and (c) we or he can do anything about it?</p>
<p>I think that Charles is surrounded by very very bad advisers, who are setting him up deliberately for a bad fall, and that this is deliberate, and that he's clever but not quite clever enough to see it.</p>

<p>El Aston Martin DEB5 que conduce el príncipe de Gales, versión descapotable del que llevaba Sean Connery en la película Goldfinger, utiliza combustible ecológico a base de derivados del vino y del queso.</p>
<p>La conversión del motor de ese deportivo, que le regaló a su primogénito la Reina Isabel II en 1969 con motivo de su 21 cumpleaños, es una de las medidas que ha tomado el príncipe de Gales para reducir sus emisiones de CO2 en un 18%.</p>
<p>Según los datos aportados por la Casa del Príncipe, el motor del automóvil funciona con un 100% de biotetanol fabricado con vino blanco, al que se añade un producto derivado de la fabricación de queso. Los gases de escape no huelen, sin embargo, a queso ni a vino, sino curiosamente a vodka, informa este martes el diario británico The Times.</p>
<p>Sir Michael Peat, secretario particular del heredero del trono, explicó que el vino utilizado no es el sobrante de los banquetes que ofrece el príncipe Carlos, sino que procede de unos viñedos propios existentes en el condado de Wiltshire. "Es vino inglés que procede de excedentes", señaló.</p>
<p><strong>Ecologista convencido</strong></p>
<p>El príncipe de Gales ha invertido en torno a 6.300 euros en la conversión del motor de su Aston Martin, que forma parte de una flota que incluye también dos Jaguars, dos Audis y un Land Rover. Los motores de todos ellos han sido adaptados para funcionar con biocombustible.</p>
<p>Carlos de Inglaterra ha logrado también reducir la factura que paga por la calefacción al sustituir los calentadores tradicionales por otros que funcionan con restos de madera e instalar sistemas térmicos más eficaces en sus residencias.</p>

<p>Wie aus einem soeben veröffentlichten Rechenschaftsbericht des englischen Thronfolgers hervorgeht, hat der grüne Prinz seinen 38 Jahre alten Aston Martin auf Bioethanol umrüsten lassen. Alle andern Kraftfahrzeuge des Royal-Fuhrparks (ein Audi, ein Range Rover und mehrere Jaguars) wurden auf den Betrieb mit altem Speiseöl umgestellt.</p>
<p>Insgesamt gibt der Report an, hätte Prince Charles letztes Jahr eine Reduzierung des CO2 Ausstosses um 18 Prozent erreicht. Regenwassertoiletten auf den Landsitzen und Fahrräder für die Bediensteten in St. James Palace in London gehörten u.a. zu den Massnahmen.  Bis zum Jahre 2012 ist das erklärte Ziel weitere 25 Prozent CO2 einzusparen.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I know summer is upon us, and everybody has their mind set on vacation and sunshine, but there is something goood to look forward to this winter!  Bond is back, <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0185819/" target="_self">Daniel Craig</a> returns for his second outing as James in the enduring franchise.  Taking inspiration from a short story penned by <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_Fleming" target="_self">Ian Fleming</a> the movie looks set to be an absolute blockbuster, building upon Craig's success in the remake of <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0381061/" target="_self">Casino Royale</a>.  I won't delve into the plot, or spoil the surprise for anyone just yet, except to say that from the recently released trailer I think we'll see the return of one of my favourite Bond themes; the conflict between loyalty (orders) and duty (revenge).  Enough of my ramblings though, go watch the trailer.</p>

<p style="text-align:left;">Aston Martin - пожалуй, одна из самых больших "маленьких" британских автофирм. Типично для британского автопрома, она занимается выпуском дорогих машин, ориентированных на премиум-спорт сегмент. До недавнего времени, она находилась под крылом Форда, но в 2007 году была продана группе инвесторов из Кувейта. Так что теперь, соревнование вечных соперников Jaguar и Aston Martin будет, фактически, соревнованием Индии и Кувейта в том, кто больше продаст "британских" машин людям со средствами.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">Поскольку фирма довольно небольшая, то и ожидать выпуска пяти-десяти новых моделей в ближайшие несколько лет не приходится. Новых моделей всего две - Rapide и Vantage RS. Машины эти абсолютно разные по классу, поскольку они призваны решать разные задачи. Если первая предназначена для солидного семейного бизнесмена, который предпочитает сам сидеть за рулем и, при возможности, "притопить" (но для него это не главное), то вторая ориентирована на тех, для кого скорость - все, что нужно от автомобиля. Мне кажется, что первая машина будет интереснее с точки зрения продаж, поскольку в этом сегменте практически ничего нет, за исключением Maserati Quattroporte (с традиционным итальянским "качеством") и Bentley Continental GT (который стал символом распальцовок различных рэперов и футболистов).</p>

That pretty much sums up my week with <a title="Race Driver Grid home page" href="http://www.racedrivergrid.com" target="_blank">Race Driver Grid</a>.</p>
<p>I have been a fan of the <a title="TOCA home page" href="http://www.codemasters.co.uk/games/?gameid=1731" target="_blank">TOCA</a> series for longer than I care to remember. There hasn't been one single version of the game I haven't played and explored inside out, and finally we're here to talk about Grid.</p>
<p>When the <a title="Youtube unofficial trailer" href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=nNnenHqUuWQ" target="_blank">trailer</a> was released into the wild I clearly remember the unconcealed stupid expression on my face as I watched an Aston burning rubber in central Milan. There and then I was completely sold. So much so, in fact, that I went out and bought the original game for PS3 as soon as it came out for the outrageous price of £40.</p>
<p>The game wasn't exactly what I expected. What I thought I burned my money on was a stunning looking Touring Car simulation. I ended up with a stunning looking game that simulates everything and nothing.</p>
<p>As I pointed out graphically there's nothing I can complain about. It's just beautiful. The team at <a title="Codemasters home page" href="http://www.codemasters.co" target="_blank">Codemasters</a> probably deserves some credit for building a multiplatform engine capable of rendering such breath-taking scenes on 4 different consoles.<br />
Now that the praises are out of the way lets get down to business.</p>
<p><a href="http://shutupsylvia.files.wordpress.com/2008/06/picture-7.png"><img class="size-full wp-image-14 alignleft" style="margin-right:10px;" src="http://shutupsylvia.wordpress.com/files/2008/06/picture-7.png" alt="Aston Martin DBR9 - Milan" width="252" height="155" /></a><strong>Learning curve:</strong> Calling it steep would be extremely kind to the game. Not only you'll have to learn how to control cars that behave according to <strong>the laws of physics from a different, possibly second-hand, universe</strong>; you'll have to re-learn how to drive for a number of different events/categories, and it's extremely frustrating. Believe me on this one, I spent one week yelling death threats at my TV.</p>
<p><strong>Realism:</strong> It just isn't there. This is an arcade racing game pretending to be a simulation, it just spoils the fun. If you want to produce an arcade game that's fine but leave it at that. Don't make the cars uncontrollable on purpose just to call it realistic, especially when it's <strong>only your car that goes berserk at every corner while all your opponets run on railtracks</strong>.<br />
On top of this there is just no way you drop me in a random position on the starting grid of a GP without giving me a chance to run some practice laps on the track, let alone qualify.</p>
<p><strong>Storyline:</strong> One thing I particularly liked about the old games in the serie (TOCA/2/3) was the fact that they had some sort of plot for you to follow as you drove your way through the single player mode. <a href="http://www.codemasters.com">Codemasters</a> has taken that away and left just some sort of shallow "Grid World" mode.</p>
<p>The bottomline? If you are looking for a game that will look stunning on your HDTV (even though it doesn't run in 1080p on PS3, which is a shame. After Gran Turismo 5 Prologue came about nothing looks good anymore) and have no intention of playing it this is definitely the game for you. Alternatively <strong>you could be 5 and have no clue of how cars handle the road, in which case you'll have lots of fun and won't feel the frustration because spare time is the norm for you rather than the exception</strong>.<br />
For all the rest of you sane PS3 owners out there... well, go for it because you just have no other choice except for GT5. Tough luck.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a title="FIA GT Adria 08 (7) di Marco Cerea, su Flickr" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mark82ita/2603985084/"><img class="alignleft" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3247/2603985084_426e67a80c_m.jpg" alt="FIA GT Adria 08 (7)" width="240" height="163" /></a> Come accennato in settimana, sabato mi sono recato all'<strong>autodromo di Adria</strong> per assistere al secondo appuntamento italiano del <strong>campionato FIA GT</strong>. Durante la giornata si sono susseguite varie gare prima dell'evento principale della sera, tra cui <strong>i campionati 5Hundred, EGTS, Kia Rio</strong>.</p>
<p>Ecco i risultati della gara. Nella classe <strong>GT1</strong>, ha trionfato la <strong>Corvette Z06</strong> di <strong>Gollin/Hezemans</strong>, seconda piazza per la <strong>Maserati MC 12</strong> di <strong>Bertolini/Bartels</strong> e terza posizione per l'altra Corvette Z06 di  <strong>Fassler/Deletraz</strong>.</p>
<p>Per la categoria <strong>GT2</strong>, prima posizione per <strong>Bruni/Vilander</strong>, secondo gradino del podio per <strong>Biagi/Montanari</strong> e terza posizione per  <strong>Malucelli/Ruberti</strong>, tutti su <strong>Ferrari F430</strong>. La prima della <strong>Porsche 911 GT3 RS (997)</strong> è solo 5° di categoria con <strong>Collard/Westbrook</strong>.</p>
<p>Anche questa occasione è stata profiqua per quanto riguarda le foto; come solito ho convissuto con le reti di protezione, anche se su questa pista sono più fastidiose avendo le tribune più basse.</p>

<title><![CDATA[Finding a Place for “Product Placement”* ]]></title>

This marketing device, whereby a company pays for its products to appear in films and television programs is almost non-existent in the Arab media, while if a certain brand makes it to an Arab film or a TV program, the execution is usually poor.</span></p>
<p><span class="txtmn">With audiences increasingly becoming scattered and advertising budgets shrinking, marketers are gradually moving away from classical models and instead using alternative "new tactics", such as "engagement" and "product placement". These methods provide a more efficient and cost effective method of promoting a certain commercial product. Among the major industry players which decided to cut down on advertising spending are Unilever and Procter and Gamble, two of the world’s biggest spenders. Even those still in favor of the 30-second advertisement are engaged in cost-cutting; the increasing use of animation instead of real actors in television commercials is one such way.</span><span class="txtmn">One of the best-known instances of product placements occurred in Steven Spielberg's 1982 film E.T the Extra-Terrestrial. According to the Financial Times, the infamous scene where E.T is shown enjoying Reese’s Pieces from Hershey Foods Corporation doubled the candy’s sales, which eventually reached a billion dollars a year.</span></p>
<p> Nowadays, brands compete fiercely with each other to be associated with successful television shows or motion pictures. Aston Martin reportedly paid $35 million dollars to become James Bond’s car of choice and replace BMW. Bond films are one example of successful product placements by major brands such as Omega and Ericsson.</p>
<p>It is therefore no surprise to see major advertising companies choosing to “follow the money” and focusing on product placement. "Grey" and other leading agencies have even established separate departments to develop product placement tactics. Nelson media research has recently launched a new service entitled “place views” in order to monitor when, where, how many times and for how long a product is shown on the screen and by how many viewers it was seen.</p>
<p>Despite not being very common in the Arab world, a number of television shows have successfully used product placement. The reality TV show “Star Academy”, for example, signed an exclusive deal with Lebanon’s “Diet Center” to provide the contestants’ meals. “Diet Center” has since expanded its activities and now has several franchises in Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries.</p>
<p>A more obvious example is the popular Saudi comedy series “Tash Ma Tash”, broadcast daily during primetime throughout the month of Ramadan, since the early 1990s. “Tash Ma Tash” has featured a large number of brands, including dairy products, airlines and fast food chains.</p>
<p>Hatim Ashour, marketing manager of “Al Tazaj”, an international Saudi chicken fast food chain, has told Asharq al Awsat in a recent interview that he tied his brand to the hit comedy to “create awareness”, given the show’s popularity in Saudi Arabia and across the Arab World. </p>
<p>According to Ashour, “Al Tazaj” has signed a five-year contract with “Tash Ma Tash”, whereby it pays almost 80 thousand dollars annually in return for being featured in the show.</p>
<p>When comparing the added value of this deal versus classic TV adverts, one needs to only look at the considerable viewing figures Tash Ma Tash commands and the fact that many are unlikely to turn away midway through the show. Despite the fact that accurate statistics are still not very common in the Arab media, the show’s continued success makes it a magnet for advertisers. Episodes are also likely to be recorded and viewed again and re-broadcast on satellite channels.</p>
<p>However an element of vital importance must be taken into consideration, for "product placement" to work we must have superb TV shows and accurate statistics to prove their success. Let us imagine we have a series as popular as the American sitcom “Friends”, with a reported 24 million people tuning in to watch the last episode in the US alone (another way of looking at it is that a TV show episode had viewership equivalent to the entire population of Saudi Arabia) . Think of how well-known your brand will become if you placed it there… I think this is “exposure” redefined.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In some quiet corner of Munich, dominated by the quad cylinders of the BMW towers [which themselves are about to be overshadowed by the new<a href="//www.tranism.com/weblog/images/bmw_headquarters_01.jpg"> BMW headquarters</a>] there appears to be something in the drinking water which is driving car connoisseurs into fits of rapture, for BMW have finally cracked the age old problem [not that people in general considered this to BE a problem] of how to have a car with fully flexible surfaces.</p>
<p>That is, a car that can change its shape to match the mood of the driver, the tuning of the engine, the stiffness and sportiness of the car's suspension set up.</p>
<p>The BMW Gina concept has turned car aesthetic appreciation on its head.</p>
<p>Of course, BMW is not slow in challenging car design reference points.</p>
<p>The BMW 7 series was the first car designed under Chris Bangle which forced buyers to re-consider what beauty really was. The uncharitable simply labelled it as ugly, but this design language eventually came to fruition in the current range of cars, with the Z4 being considered to be the epitome of Bangle design - challenging, and actually<a href="//www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhDRVuN9w7A&#38;hl=en]"> difficult on the eye</a>.</p>
<p>The new Gina concept takes this <a href="//www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTYiEkQYhWY&#38;hl=en]">further</a>.</p>
<p>Just check out the way the car has "eye lids" which actually open up when the lights are turned on. So organic, so functional, so goddam sexy it beggars belief.</p>
<p>And so where next?</p>
<p>Th other car manufacturers are all racing to produce what they refer to as "fluidic" car interiors which can be re-designed on the fly to match the mood of the driver. A current rudimentary example is in car lighting, with both Mini and Jaguar having in car puddle lights which change colour depending on engine revs and suspension setting.</p>
<p>Nissan is aiming to out trump one and all; it aims to have optical sensors which read the emotions of the driver and change the car's colour accordingly.</p>
<p>Of course, this could not end without an <a href="//www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGhTL1e8mEw&#38;hl=en]">Aston Martin</a> reference,  who recently re-named their car key the "Emotional Control Unit"....</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Quelle course ! Les 24 heures du Mans sont un événement fabuleux à chaque édition. Mais lorsqu'en plus la course tient toutes ses promesses... c'est à un Grand Prix de 24 heures que nous avons assisté.</p>
<p>Comme promis, un duel de titans a opposé Peugeot à Audi. Dès les essais, Peugeot a assommé la concurrence, avec un écart de plus de 5 secondes au tour. Et dimanche après-midi, sans connaître de souci majeur ni de faute de pilotage, les trois 908 HDi Fap et les trois R 10 TDi ont franchi la ligne d'arrivée, pour le couronnement d'une.. Audi !</p>

Mention spéciale à Pescarolo qui parvient à rallier l'arrivée à une très belle 6e place, la meilleure qu'il puisse faire avec ses moyens limités et une réglementation défavorable aux moteurs essence, juste devant Courage Oreca.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">Gulf à également réussi son pari (voir <a href="http://olivgraphic.wordpress.com/2008/06/02/gulf-petite-marque-grande-image/" target="blank">Gulf, petite marque, grande image</a>) en étant associé à la victoire de Aston Martin en GT1, 40 ans après le premier succès de la marque bleu ciel et orange aux 24 H du Mans.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Aunque los tres Peugeot 908 coparon las tres primeras posiciones en las sesiones de calificación, la victoria se la llevo el Audi número 2 pilotado porel danés Kristensen, el Italiano Capello y el Escocés McNish, despues de que en el momento que el 908 que pilotaba en ese momento el español Marc Gené en la hora 15 perdiera nuemrosas vueltas frente al Audi por la aparicion de la lluvia, fue en este momento cuando el equipo audi aprovechó el menor consumo frente al Peugeot para terminar al final de la 24 horas con 34 repostajes frentre a los 37 del Peugeot que perrmanecia en boxes una media de 15 segundos por parada mas que el Audi.</p>

Less weight on his feet means more energy on the court. Kobe is expected to play in the <em>Nike Hyperdunk</em> when the Lakers meet the Clippers in April. The <em>Hyperdunk</em> hits US retail in late July.</p>

Spectators are invited to send in their photo, which they think sums up the spirit of the Aston Martin Asia Cup with the winner receiving a pair of <strong>Grandstand tickets and paddock passes </strong>for the next AMAC round which will take place once again at Sepang on 11-13 July 2008 as part of the Malaysian Super Series.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:small;font-family:Arial;">Whether the cars in action or the enthusiastic crowd, we look forward to seeing how you capture the Aston Martin Asia Cup!</span></p>
