The negative answer to that makes my blood run cold; the threat of KFR is, after all, something I am familiar with. But one can't help wondering if giving in to a kidnapper's demands doesn't just embolden them more.

I can understand the logic behind not giving in to the demands of kidnappers and terrorists, but I can't completely divorce myself from the innate wrongness of letting someone die just to prove a point. This isn't Sparta, after all.

Reminds us of the Lozada affair, where he was provided safety and security by police escorts and he cried KIDNAAAAAAAAP!!! It is dearly wished his kidnap and Ces' are not one and the same.

At the time, there was a supposed massive nationwide strike by the CPP/NPA/NDF that was touted to be another Oust GMA mobilization. The strike did not make any news.

Ces Drilon and company were also in the Manila Peninsula Hotel. They were supposedly taken hostage by the MAGDALO.

Later, they were illegally arrested by the police for being in Peninsula. Ces and company were checked in with cameras already set up in the Peninsula upper lobby long before the MAGDALO violently took over the hotel.

The journalistic ethics, personal morals and values of ABS CBN, PROBE Team and the Lopezes are in question here.  Is it true as some quarters in the journalistic profession say that their overriding desire for a scoop has even been replaced by engaging in conspiracy with destabilizers of the country. The balae of ABS CBN owners Erap, where is he in this?

When and how will the highly suspect kidnapping for a ransom of a P20-Million of Ces will end is not known. Will it replicate the payment of hundreds of thousands or millions of pesos to the MAGDALO as a form of contribution to the coup d' etat cum ersatz reform/revolution campaign of anti-government personalities and groups of November 29? Now it is vaunted by one of their mouthpieces that the government will engage the Muslims again in an all-out war! Susmaryosep!!!

As if we do not remember that ABS-CBN's Ms. Maan Macapagal was also alleged to have been kidnapped by Abu Sayyap.  After the supposed kidnapping, there were nearly credible, almost believable rumors of torrid sex scenes, mating and pledges of love, emotional commitments between ABS-CBN and Abu Sayyap and the terrorists' tender, faithful promises of giving ABS-CBN the scoop on their various terror acts vs. innocents in this and perchance, maybe in other parts of the world as well.  (Remember Sipadan, Malaysia?)  HHHWOWWW!!!

As if we already forgot that Mr. Julius Babao did spring Tyrone Santos a/k/a Dawud Santos a prominent leader of the Rajah Soliman Group a/k/a Balik Islam Movement with bail money from jail.  According to the following blog at blogspot,  Philippine Commentary, and I am afraid i may not necessarily be quoting in the right context and therefore may the owner forgive me truly if I am in error, after Babao sprang a/k/a Dawud Santos, this very important terrorista went underground for the nth time. A/k/a Dawud Santos and his organization are closely linked with Juma'a Abu Sayyap (JAS) known in the media as ASG or Abu Sayyaf Group.  Rajah Soliman leaders trained with Khaddafy Janjalani and his elder brother Abdulrajak Janjalani in foreign terrorist organizations' schools for killing people, destroying property, chilling governments, making oodles of money from ransom and extortion.  The story appears very similar to the escape of Faeldon from jail too.  Up to this date, Faeldon is a fugitive, like a/k/a Dawud.  What are these fucking media creatures up to?  They have abandoned the quest for news as news.  They have become the newsmakers, but have even gone beyond.  They have settled upon the niche of rogue trouble makers, allies of terrorists and instigators, provokers of war!  Susmaryosep (again)!!!

Fortunately, many in Mindanao will be blogging about the real truth of the supposed kidnapping of Ces Oreña Drilon and company, specially including prominent Mindanao mentor and civil society element, Prof. Octavio Dinampo. The pawns in the game, camera man and crew Jimmy Encarnacion and Angelo Valderama are the dispensables here.  What will happen to them? With their families we pray that nothing untoward will befall them. But most important, let us hope and pray that soon we will know the whole truth and nothing but.  Whatever Ces' motives for going to Mindanao, specially prior to the speech of Madame Arroyo on the SONA or state of the nation, it is also hoped and prayed here, that she survives.  And if there was any subterfuge in her trip there that we do not know about that does not serve the interest of the country, let us hope and pray hard that there will be remorse and guilt and that she and her ilk will ask for forgiveness from the entire nation.  Although that she and her ilk will do that is doubtful, miracles can happen.

Abangan!!!

By June 10, news began leaking out that the reporter and her crew was in fact kidnapped by the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG), a terrorist organization in the Philippines with reported links to Al Qaeda.

The group is reportedly asking for a ransom for the release of the news crew.

What's interesting is that ABS CBN has ordered a media blackout regarding the matter, but that did not prevent some tid bits from coming out, particularly on foreign press like Bloomberg, Radio Australia, and an item on the US National Terror Alert.

To date, ABS CBN has issued a press release, explaining their media blackout on the matter, citing the safety of the reporters as their motivation. This has been documented in Philippine news by this time.

This is an excellent template for study on the effects of media on viewers. Very little facts are released at the moment, so the media blackout is an effective way to keep sentiments at bay. This is very different from the usual treatment of terrorist activity--which is usually front-page news even before the actual event hits.

A comparative study would be the coverage of the aborted Manila Peninsula Coup (ironically also covered by Ces Drilon at the time)--where blow by blow reportage, even with nothing to report, was experienced (i.e. the media trying in vain to put a spin on something).

Also, it should not be missed amongst viewers that this kidnapping happens at a very opportune time for the Lopez group that owns the ABS CBN media company. Just within the last month, the Philippine government attempted to wrest control from another Lopez controlled company: the electric distributor Meralco, and very recently the government slapped a reduction on toll fees, which is perturbing profits at yet another Lopez company: the tollway operator First Philippine Holdings.

Acid Test: no outrage factor here, despite the terrorist angle. Critical minds are interested to see how this plays out.

I guess benign0 beat me to it. Reacting to abs-cbn's news blackout of the Ces Drilon abduction, I mean. Myself, the gist of my reaction was this: Oh? So it's okay for abs-cbn to suppress news, and howl bloody murder when others - for security reasons not terribly unlike those invoked by abs-cbn - ask for a similar embargo?

Don't get me wrong. I understand why abs-cbn felt it necessary to ask for an embargo - and of course I hope Ces is okay (I'm optimistic, in fact, that she will be ok); I am merely commenting on the apparent double standard in effect. The safety of one of their own justifies denying the public access to a newsworthy event; but the safety of others doesn't?

On a related note, I was also struck by this unintended but no less blatant exercise of power to control what the public knows. It reminds me of a quote from Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, a game I used to play:

The readership of this blog has not been up the the level that I would have wished for this year. However, I happily updated the student body of Texas State University and all those interested in the happenings at the school on the hill in my term as Student Body President.

It is quite bitter sweet to finish. In a way it feels as if college never even ended, like I just rolled over in a deep sleep or something. Yet, there are some things I've learned that I would like to leave as I venture into the world as a proud alumni of Texas State.

Leadership is service:

There is no other way, there is no other reason to lead except to serve. I've seen many leadership styles in my career and over the past year and no attribute is more honest and right that that of selflessness. It is essential to empower others and elevate them to greater things than themselves. This is only possible by putting their needs above your own.

What do you really want?:

My father forwarded me an email from a collaborative project called Crucial Conversations that has stuck with me the whole year. It focused on conflict and negotiation. It is so important when trying to accomplish something to remember what you really want, not what feels good. The importance is the end result, so it is necessary to restrain personal emotions and feelings in order to achieve a greater success that lasts.

Business is Business:

I had to toughen my skin rather quickly this year. I am an emotional guy and sometimes I would let relationships stand in the way of business. I'd either expect something in the business world as a result of a friendship or cave into doing something because I felt a false responsibility to appease those close to me. The bottom line is that the worlds are different, they cannot mesh and it is healthy that way. I had to go up against some close friends and people that I admire, but outside of work, the real relationships remain.

Return is Directly Related to Investment:

We spent a good deal of money this year. Some fee increased my administration supported were opposed by factions of the student body. However, I firmly believe that our investments are worthwhile. Nothing comes of nothing. There must me pioneers to get things in motion. Some initiatives, programs and changes that are coming to Texas State are coming because the Associated Student Government chose this year to lead the way. Reckless spending is stupid, but calculated and measured investment into areas that promise a yield are necessary for a bright future.

You Know What to do:

Not that any of us will ever have it figured out, but I found that most decisions I made this year, especially the right decisions were already inside of me. Though I was very fortunate to have mentors and close friends to help me through tough calls- the gut speaks true 9 times out of 10. If, however, you are true to yourself and willing to let pride go in order to act with integrity.

The World is Run by Those who Show Up:

Sometimes this year I saw that it was that simple. Things are constantly happening around us, many things which shape our surrounding environment. Decisions and direction are decided upon by those who choose to show up. There is a higher responsibility that we have as servants to be present and active in our community because just as our showing up can influence things, so can the presence of those with ill will.

Mentors are Necessary:

This goes both ways. It is necessary to invest into others and be invested into. From my experience this year of having three close mentors whom I met regularly with and having others who sought my opinion and advice, I confidently say that it is absolutely essential to enter into such relationships. The amount of growth, discovery and learning that will come to you as a result of a mentor and mentee relationship will endlessly benefit the way you lead and live.

All Memorable Events Transpire in the Morning:

This could be up for debate, but as a result of the instruction from one of my mentors this year, I rose with the sun or earlier as much as I could this year. Anything that stood in the way of my time in the morning alone had to go. That aloneness and renewal is essential. Thoreau says it best:

All memorable events, I should say, transpire in morning time and in a morning atmosphere. The Vedas say, "All intelligences awake with the morning." Poetry and art, and the fairest and most memorable of the actions of men, date from such an hour. All poets and heroes, like Memnon, are the children of Aurora, and emit their music at sunrise. To him whose elastic and vigorous thought keeps pace with the sun, the day is a perpetual morning. It matters not what the clocks say or the attitudes and labors of men. Morning is when I am awake and there is a dawn in me.

Quality of Life is Measured by Quality Relationships:

It is certainly evident in the other anecdotes I have written above the importance of this last important statement. In my opinion all things that transpired this year are a result of quality relationships. My father has always told this to me and I found it to ring true. Above all, find friends, mentors and communicate with your family. Though business and relationships must have a healthy distance, business relationships are the only way to get things done. Respect others, invest into them, write thank you notes and put their needs before your own. The yield is immeasurable and invaluable, when it is all said and done the only thing that will matter is the people in your life that care about you as much as you do for them.

That's quite a condensed list and I know there are many things that will be uncovered from this year that I don't even know about yet. I look forward to continued discovery after the privilege of this past year. Thank you specifically to Alexis Dabney, the Vice President, Brett Baker, the Chief of Staff and Sean Wardwell the Executive Assistant. The senate was wonderful and all of the relationships with the Administration certainly sped things along.

I look forward to continuing my relationship with Texas State. But the important thing now is to move on to the next step. It was a pleasure serving and growing with you all this year and I'll close with the very platform we ran on, the things I still believe and will strive to do.

I think the most interesting discussion was probably the Neighborhood Groups talk -- in Wichita, we have four groups that are pretty much defined by location, although a few people attend more than one. (ASG defines Neighborhood Groups as subgroups of a chapter -- they are especially useful for the really big chapters where whole-membership meetings are so big that people don't really have a chance to get to know each other.) Several people at the meeting encouraged starting groups that would better be described as Special Interest than Neighborhood groups. Our Regional Rep also pointed out that nothing says that a group has to be permanent -- a group could meet for several months to explore something in particular, then disband, which could make it easier to recruit leaders! One of my favorite ideas from our brainstorming actually came from a typo on the flip chart -- how about a Tour (instead couture) Group which would research textile arts from different regions of the world, then make items inspired by those traditions? I wonder if anyone here in town would be interested...

And, of course, the St. Louis Chapter and Susi, the Regional Rep did a marvelous job -- great food, lots of chocolate, and goodies!

And did they every get ready! They pulled out all their samples and hung them on the cubicle walls all through the facility! Everywhere we walked, there were gorgeous examples of sewing, quilting, and embroidery. We heard that even the employees were kinda excited about the decor.

And then, as we were leaving, they handed each of us a major bag of goodies:

Several of us were saying on the bus afterward that the tour was great and the goodies were awesome, but what was the most surprising thing about the tour was learning about the vacuum cleaner division. Simplicity is apparently a high end line, and the CEO told us that they got a bunch of their machines on Consumer Report's best buy lists. And the bonus? They're manufactured in the US! I spoke to at least one person who was going to find a local source and check them out.

I hope the total good will and eventual sales turn out to make this effort worth their while -- we sure appreciated all the work they did for us!

De verkiezingen zijn begonnen! Ploeg dalton heeft mooie affiches en het programma ziet er heel goed uit. Wat ABVG van plan is, weet ik niet... die jongens zijn maar een kwartier in het gilde geweest, heb amper hun t-shirts gezien, laat staan een programma, programmaboekjes, latjes,...
Uiteraard was er een gratis vat om de verkiezingen goed in te zetten! Toen dat vat op was, vond de uitbater het een goed idee om nog een vat te geven...
Twee gratis vaten was kennelijk een beetje te veel van het goede (want zoveel volk was er al niet meer)
Uiteindelijk ben ik terug naar kot kunnen fietsen, er was wel een sympathiekeling die me nog gezelschap heeft gehouden. Het is best akelig als je rustig aan het fietsen bent en dat er plots een politie-combi heel traag naast u aan het rijden is (maar echt heeeeeeeeel traag). Uiteindelijk stelde dat niets voor, maar het geeft gewoon een zenuwachtig gevoel. En op het volgende kruispunt, kwamen we die combi terug tegen!!!
De avond was een mooie startschot van de verkiezingen, en ik heb zin in meer van dat!

Maandag: Kotentocht + Fakbar
Het is jammer, maar ze kunnen er uiteraard niets aan veranderen dat het zo hard aan het regenen was door de dag. De drankverkoop zal er wel zwaar onder geleden hebben!
Gelukkig klaarde het om 5u op zodat het een droge kotentocht werd... Gigantisch coole gadgets (een draagbare ventillator!!!!!!! Dit zal handig zijn voor op de fiets als we naar kamp fietsen en op trapsgewijs, maar ook sportwater, secondenlijm, gigantisch veel t-shirts,...) en uiteraard ook gratis bier werd uitgedeeld aan elk kot!  

Bij een kotentocht is er altijd begeleiding van de politie aanwezig, want zo'n carnavalswagen is wel een storend element in het verkeer. De twee politie-agenten waren echt wel pro-studentenleven en het waren toffe mensen. Ik mocht zelfs eens in de combi zitten met handboeien aan. Echt super tof :) Mijn "droom" werd werkelijkheid.

Daarna was het fakbar... De politieagenten vond het precies heel tof op de kotentocht zodat ze daarna nog naar de fakbar zijn gekomen! Het was dus leuk, totdat ik op het fantastische idee kwam om eens buiten te praten.
Ik vind het gewoon jammer dat ik het een jaar had volgehouden en dat het me nu gewoon niet meer lukte. Het is natuurlijk mijn eigen fout... het spijt me!

Dinsdag: BBQ + Wild Wild West TD
Het weer vandaag was al stukken beter! Jammer genoeg was de microfoon verdwenen waardoor er niet veel reclame kon gemaakt worden voor al hun actie's...
Die avond stond de WildWildWest TD op het programma. Het was jammer genoeg in de kleine zaal, want in de grote zaal was het ook fuif van ploeg bagger (de ploeg van abvg). Het was dan met momenten dan ook grote volksverhuizingen van de ene naar de andere zaal. De actie dat je een gratis fles schuimwijn krijgt per zuipkaart sloeg wel eerst heel goed aan bij het publiek. Maar het kon jammer genoeg niet echt opboksen bij 3 gratis vaten van abvg.
Laat op de avond kwam 1 van de 2 politieagenten toch nog opdagen, heel verrassend maar het was nog tof. Ik weet niet goed of hij nog iets aan de fuif heeft gehad, want toen was er al niet veel volk meer en een uur later zijn ze begonnen met opkuisen.

Woensdag: Bekendmaking uitslag  +  35 jaar Hasselt
Het was gigantisch spannend en doodstil toen het kiescomité in het Gildenhuis binnenkwam.
Ploeg tuutteuh had de volle 3 stemmen (ik denk dat dit een record van ploeg tuuteuh is).
En gelukkig is ploeg Dalton gewonnen, met exact 2 (of 3 ?) stemmen verschil!! Er waren wel nog een paar strafstemmen waardoor het officiele verschil iets hoger lag, maar ploeg Dalton was gewonnen. En hoe... Proficiat aan de ploeg, het was een geslaagde week :)
De bouw heeft hun kat gestuurd, en die kat was toevallig Jo (de opkomende praesis). Met de melding dat ze er principieel tegen waren om te komen naar het Gildenhuis voor de uitslag bij gebrek aan een degelijk verkiezingsregelment. Het is al jaren gelukt zonder dat reglement op papier. Het mag er inderdaad wel zijn, maar was het nodig om dat te laten voelen met een protestactie door niet te komen?
Maar dat belette niet om er een feestje van te maken. De ploeg was gewonnen en ze waren blij!

En toen was het tijd om de chiromeisjes te verwelkomen op mijn kot. Het was een gigantische mooie afsluiter van deze week :) Ik vind het dan ook altijd heel leuk als er Zeelse mensen naar mijn kot komen!
Jammer genoeg voelde Elien zich niet al te  goed waardoor ze het haar niet kon permiteren (thesis enzo) om nog zieker te worden. De 4 andere hadden er allesinds wel nog veel zin in om Milk inc te zien. Ik was nog geen 5 minuten in de tent en er tikte iemand op mijn schouder, ik kijk om en ik stond recht voor de twee politie-agenten (in uniform wel te verstaan). Dat was een gigantische verrassing om die een hele week tegen te komen. Die twee zijn een ongeloofelijk duo samen :)

Bij het optreden stonden we helemaal vooraan en het was best goed, de sfeer zat er goed in. Leen en Nele zijn er zelfs in geslaagd om de fotograaf te overtuigen voor een foto van hen twee samen met Linda te trekken. Hun avond kon al niet meer stuk!
De universiteit had kennelijk geld met hopen, want het was al gratis inkom, bonnetje aan 1 euro en toen begonnen ze ook nog eens gratis vaten weg te geven. Heel onverwacht maar het werd wel geapprecieerd bij het publiek. De avond vloog om en het was een groot feestje. De chiromeisjes hebben een paar vrienden van mij in Diepenbeek gezien, ze leerden zelfs nieuwe mensen kennen (ze vinden dat limburgers echt sociaal zijn), en ze begonnen zich al helemaal te integreren door het taalgebruik te veranderen van Zeels naar Limburgs (hilarisch, echt hilarisch). Om 3uur was de fuif gedaan, een beetje jammer, maar het was een kort en krachtige avond!

Het was ons bijna gelukt om een lift te versieren bij de politie-agenten, maar er werd op dat moment een beetje gevochten waardoor de politie moest optreden om de feestgangers uit elkaar te houden (of zoals ze dat in het limburgs zeggen: "er werd gebatterd")

Toen we in ons kot waren, was het even puzzelen hoe en wie waar ging liggen. Want 5 man laten slapen in mijn kot is niet zo'n eenvoudige klus. Uiteindelijk lag iedereen neer, de ene al wat comfortabeler dan de andere.

Het was een onvergetelijke week!

Weetjes en tips voor een kater

Kippenbouillon
Een oud recept. Er is over nagedacht. De maag is zowieso al van streek. Waarom niet nog een beetje meer chaos. In elk geval is de kippenbouillon goed tegen de ontwatering van het lichaam.

Mineraalwater
Het liefst in grote hoeveelheden, is goed tegen de nadorst en activeert de stofwisseling. Levert veel mineralen en de kater-killer magnesium. (sommigen beweren dat het goed is een halve liter water te drinken vlak voordat men gaat "slapen")

Kofie
Werkt ontnuchterend en activeert de bloedsomloop. Maar de alcoholspiegel zakt niet, dus laat je auto staan. Ook de dag erna want wie dronken was heeft de dag erna nog een te hoog alcoholpromilage in het bloed.

Brood en olijven
Wordt aanbevolen tijdens het drinken. Heeft het voordeel dat je niet zo snel dronken wordt. Zeer geliefd in de mediterane landen.

Honing
Een broodje honing bij het katerontbijt is lekker en gezond. Honing bevordert de omzetting van alcohol en herstelt de bloedsuikerspiegel die in de morgen erg laag is.

Avocado:
Een smaakvolle profylaxe. Voordat je uitgaat kun je ook een blikje oliesardientjes verorberen. Hoofdzaak is dat de maaltijd erg vettig is, want dat vet bekleedt de gevoelige maagwand en zoals bekend zwemt alcohol op vet.

Algemeen
Bouw het alcoholgebruik op. Eerst zwak-alcoholische dranken, daarna wat sterker; niet andersom. Niet voor niets luiden de spreekwoorden: bier na wijn geeft venijn en wijn na bier geeft plezier
Een kater heeft onder andere te maken met uitdroging, hoe vreemd dat ook mag klinken. Drink om uitdroging te voorkomen tijdens of na het alcoholgebruik wat water, melk of nog beter, vruchtensappen

Ik vind het jammer, de Xios is in 5 jaar nog nooit zo laag geeindigd als nu. 3de's, achter de KHLim...
De eerste was weer de Universiteit Hasselt met 6 minuten 53 seconden (als ik het me nog goed herinner), daarna dus de KHLIM met 6.56 en dan de Xios 6.59 en de PHL, laten we zeggen 8 minuten ofzo? ;)

Vorig jaar won mijn studentenvereniging A.S.G. het vat omdat ze zo goed gesupporterd hadden voor het XIOS Roeiteam. 4 A.S.G.-ers hadden zich geel geverfd en XIOS op hun buik/rug geschreven. Spijtig genoeg vind ik geen foto's, als iemand er heeft stuur je ze maar door. Bedankt Lieve voor de foto!

Sensing his tone, he's a bit worried .

I asked what troubling him.

He told me that Task Force Comet chief Brig. General Juancho Sabban sort of "dressed him down."

Why?

Because Sabban objected to the word "kidnapping" for the six individuals taken by the suspected Abu Sayyaf Group under Gafur Jumdail on April 8, 2008 at Kulasi village in Maimbung town, Sulu.

"Dapat daw extortion yun, kasi wala namang involved na ransom," Kasim explained recalling his talks with Sabban.

"Sana ma-correct mo yung report," Kasim added in a pleading tone.

I don't know but something struck me that I returned the same question to the police chief.

"Sir, what if I was taken by these people that authorities identified as Abu Sayyaf and I was held for more than two days, divested all my properties, then released me after several persuasion from relatives, is that extortion or kidnapping?"

What if police or military took me and detained me for more than two days, definitely my relatives may seek help or file "Writ of Amparo."

Kasim admitted that the incident is kidnapping but it seems that military in Sulu under Sabban would like to dismiss the two incidents of abduction as extortion.

This Sabban would like to paint a different image of Sulu, he wanted to project an image of a rainbow in that God forsaken conflict areas when the reality is... you might simply end up as hostage for a day or two and military will dismiss the case as extortion.

I told Kasim that he being the police officer knows better about laws and enforcement and kidnapping is the appropriate label for the crime committed by the Jumdail's group and not extortion, that is... unless Sabban has came out with fresh glossary of terms.

If there were ever any doubt about the ripple effect of the FBS Football referendum, check this out from a Walmart all the way down in San Antonio! It's a small step, but people are excited about what is happening at Texas State and are ready to be a part of it. Go Bobcats!

Na 4 weken thuis te zitten (2 weken bachelorproef in UZ Brussel en 2 weken paasvakantie), keek ik vol verlangen uit om terug naar Diepenbeek te komen. Daarom heb ik een kot-verjaardags-feestje georganiseerd om mijn vrienden van daar nog eens te zien voor dat school terug begint. Het is ook leuk om een feestje hier op kot te hebben en dat je daarna niet naar school moet. Hoewel ik heb op vrijdag een bedrijfsbezoek... dat komt eigenlijk al op hetzelfde neer als school, maar ik ben toch blij dat ik naar Diepenbeek kon afzakken. Jammer genoeg hebben er een aantal mensen op het laatste moment afgebeld, waardoor er niet zoveel volk naar mijn feestje komt (mijn kot is namelijk niet zo groot dus ik kon maar een beperkt aantal mensen uitnodigen en als er dan op het laatste moment mensen afbellen dan heb je inderdaad niet zoveel volk).

Een kotfeestje geven is toch ook altijd een risico, gelukkig is er nu geen schade :) Bij mijn allereerste kotfeestje was mijn nieuwste parfum op de grond gevallen. Dagen heeft mijn kot naar dat parfum gestonken (ja! Als je zoveel parfum op 1 minikamertje hebt gemorst dan stinkt dat).

Bij mijn tweede feestje was plots mijn tafel verdwenen toen ik wakker werd (ja er kunnen plots dingen bij mij verdwenen en zeker na zulke feestjes ;). Gelukkig was het een grap van mijn kotgenoten en hadden ze de tafel zo gekanteld zodat die perfect in het toilet paste, maar dat had ik pas die avond ontdekt.

Maar het was een rustig feestje, ik heb een groene brillendoos gekregen met bloemetjes en pieternellen op (op de onderkant staan alleen maar pieternellen, voor de logische verklaring: onder een steen zitten ook alleen maar pieternellen en geen bloemetjes), een chiro-handdoek en chiro-washandje (met etiketje in waar je je naam kan invullen) en 3 mega coole aapjes die als kapstok dienen. Jammer genoeg is mijn deur te breed, zodat als ik de aapjes aan mijn deur zou hangen mijn deur niet meer toe gaat. Maar het is cool, en ze hangen nu ook al mooi aan mijn kast :)

Vrijdag was het dan SchlagerFestival. Zalig hoe dat die vlaamse artisten zoveel sfeer kunnen brengen in de Ethias Arena. Eddy Wally was ‘geweldig' en ook Laura lynn en Frans Bauer waren van de partij. Goeie sfeer en zeker als het gratis is!!!

Volgende week ben ik van de partij op: i love the 90's (DJ Regi, DJ Shash, 2 Fabiola,...). Dat zal ook wel de moeite zijn! Hopelijk zijn er dan meer enthousiastelingen van A.S.G.!

Hannelore Strauven, ook een studentenvertegenwoordiger uit Sturax begon vorige week te bloggen. Het is een zeer veelbelovende blog, die nog maar enkele berichten telt, maar nu al zeer kwaliteitsvol is in mijn nederige mening. Zeker haar tweede bericht was fantastisch goed geschreven en openhartig. Hannelore is ook doopmeester(es) in het A.S.G.-praesidium en daar zijn onlangs ook een aantal blogs opgestart.

Dominique Fonteyn, de praeses van A.S.G. begon te bloggen de dag na zijn schachtenmeester Maarten van de Sande ergens eind februari. Maarten is net als Dries en ik ook studentenvertegenwoordiger in de raad van bestuur van Stuvox. Stuvers zijn over het algemeen oververtegenwoordigd in de blogwereld. Maar ook A.S.G. is aan een sterke opmars bezig. Drie praesidiumleden, ik als ouwe zak en dan nog een schacht en toekomstig praesidiumlid. Frank Puttemans houdt een zeer interessante blog bij over technologie, studies en studentenleven.

Het is zeker de moeite om hen eens een bezoekje te brengen. Vooral Hannelore, Dries en Frank hebben een interessante blog.
Als het bij jou stilletjesaan ook begint te kriebelen om te bloggen zou ik zeggen: zeker doen. Het kost niets, alleen een beetje tijd. Je leert nieuwe mensen kennen en ontdekt interessante nieuwtjes op het internet. Je moet alleen soms een beetje opletten wat je schrijft of hoe je het verwoordt. Ouders,docenten en toekomstige werknemers kunnen ook alles zien wat je publiceert op het internet.

Mi spiego meglio: in un archivio entri benissimo con la sola materia di archivistica, ma riesci, come me, a capire solamente il funzionamento dell'archivio in sè, ma non del suo contenuto. E invece per noi storici il contenuto il succo della ricerca. Ma cosa serve per usare, capire, annusare e appassionarti ai documenti? Altre materie che, per colpa dei crediti e del vecchio piano di studi strampalato, non erano accessibili come esami. Vuoi per una cosa, vuoi per un'altra, e vuoi anche per quelle stupidissime credenze becere che girano in facoltà, materie come diplomatica, codicologia, paleografia latina e in una certa misura bibliografia vengono evitate. Anche l'archivistica fa parte di questo (povero) gruppetto denigrato ai margini della società universitaria (dagli studenti, beninteso). Ma come un antichista deve saper leggere una fonte epigrafica, sia greca che latina, uno storico medievista o modernista deve saper leggere una fonte pergamenacea oppure cartacea, per estrapolare la base di un qualsiasi lavoro storico, le informazioni. Senza le informazioni e le nostre analisi incrociate non serve a niente persino fare lo storico. Se non avessimo fonti, e nel mio/nostro caso i documenti, e se non abbiamo la possibilità di capirli, leggerli e apprezzarli per il loro valore, allora tanto vale andare a scegliersi un altro lavoro.

Questa è la sacrosanta verità.

P.S. Per caso ho scoperto questo browser game stupido sulla fondazione di una città e penso gestione (tipo la serie Sim City) ma funziona a visite. Io lascio qui il link alla pagina, poi voi se volete andate a vedere e insieme vediamo cosa succede :-)
