Conscience planétaire et Politique de civilisation [modifier]

Avec Terre-Patrie, écrit en 1993, (avec Anne-Brigitte Kern), Edgar Morin en appelle à une « prise de conscience de la communauté du destin terrestre », véritable conscience planétaire.

« C'est en Californie, en 1969-1970, que des amis scientifiques de l'université de Berkeley m'ont éveillé la conscience écologique » rapporte-t-il, avant de s'alarmer : «Trois décennies plus tard, après l'assèchement de la mer d'Aral, la pollution du lac Baïkal, les pluies acides, la catastrophe de Tchernobyl, la contamination des nappes phréatiques, le trou d'ozone dans l'Antarctique, l'ouragan Katrina à la Nouvelle-Orléans, l'urgence est plus grande que jamais ».

En 2007, il est l'auteur de L'an I de l'ère écologique : La Terre dépend de l'homme qui dépend de la Terre. Le livre comporte un dialogue avec Nicolas Hulot.

Cette conscience doit s'accompagner pour Edgar Morin[5] d'une nouvelle « politique de civilisation », pour sortir de cet « âge de fer planétaire... préhistoire de l'esprit humain ».

La politique de civilisation (concept emprunté à Leopold Sedar Senghor [réf. nécessaire]), explique Edgar Morin, « vise à remettre l’homme au centre de la politique, en tant que fin et moyen, et à promouvoir le bien-vivre au lieu du bien-être »[6]. Cette notion de politique de civilisation s'inspire notamment des travaux de l'économiste Henri Bartoli, qui appelle à replacer l’homme au centre de l'économie (l'économie doit être au service de la vie et non l'inverse)[7]. Plus concrètement partant du constat que la civilisation moderne génère souvent mal être profond et individualisme, il propose de s'attacher « à régénérer les cités, à réanimer les solidarités, à susciter ou ressusciter des convivialités, à régénérer l'éducation »[8].

L'expression « politique de civilisation » a été reprise par le président de la République française Nicolas Sarkozy, lors de ses vœux du 31 décembre 2007[9]. Edgar Morin s'est montré très nuancé quant à cette utilisation du concept : « Je ne peux exclure que M. Sarkozy réoriente sa politique dans ce sens, mais il ne l'a pas montré jusqu'à présent et n'en donne aucun signe. »[10], « J’ai deux désaccords très importants avec Sarkozy : sur la politique extérieure, où je vois un alignement sur Bush ; et sur l’intérieur et la politique inhumaine envers les immigrés. Pour le reste, il y a une marge d’incertitude et il peut évoluer.[...] Le chef de l’État est un personnage plastique, en mouvement. Il n’a pas encore pris conscience du caractère radical d’une politique de civilisation. » [11].

Um die aus Richtung Herford kommenden Fahrzeuge auch auf die Geschäfte im wieder freigegeben 1. Bauabschnitt aufmerksam zu machen, ließ die Gemeinde Hiddenhausen die Werbetafeln aus der ersten Bauphase ebenfalls aufstellen.

Die Schilder der Firmen aus dem 2. Bauabschnitt sind noch nicht vollständig. Sie werden nach und nach ergänzt, sobald der Gemeinde Hiddenhausen die von den Geschäftsleuten einzureichenden Entwürfe vorliegen.

Der Grund dafür ist, dass an diesem Tag die Sperrung von dem ersten Bauabschnitt in den Zweiten von der Löhner Straße bis zur Aral-Tankstelle verlegt wird. "Bevor wir aus Richtung Bünde kommend auf machen, muss die Sperrung im neuen Abschnitt komplett aufgestellt sein", erklärt der Bürgermeister. "Ab Dienstag soll der Verkehr im 1. Bauabschnitt wieder rollen", fügt er hinzu.

Hindi ko lang kinailangang mag-aral. Kailangan ko rin ipagpaliban ang kasiyahan. Babae. Beer. At iba pa. Yosi na lang ang natira. Sayang, dati rati masaya na ako sa simpleng buhay. Binayaan ng masasayang alaala. Sa inuman man, o pag kasama ko ang mga minahal ko dati. Ngunit nawala na 'yan lahat. Nag-aaral na lang ako.

Ngayon.

Pagod na ako. Subalit kailangang abutin ang pangarap. Ngayon lang ako nangarap. Tutuparin kahit mahirap. Hindi na po ito masaya. Pero OK lang... walang kwenta naman ang kasihayan pag ang tao ay hindi nangangarap.

Heute hat mir jemand ungefragt dieses gefährliche Ding aufgedrängt. Bei ARAL. Es sollte wohl eine Belohnung sein, denn es umhüllte eine Lunchbox von Petite Bistro. DARUM sollte sich die EU mal kümmern, was die an den Tankstellen rausgeben! Ich bin dann nach Hause gefahren, immer ängstlich bedacht, diese Tüte von Babies, Kindern und Haustieren fernzuhalten. Und in der Wohnung habe ich natürlich darauf geachtet, dass sich diese Plastetüte nicht in meinem Bett versteckt. Zur Sicherheit habe ich sie mit einem Messer ans Frühstücksbrett genagelt. Wenn es draussen dunkel ist, werde ich meinen Feldspaten nehmen, dieses Teufelsding in den Wald tragen, eine tiefe Grube ausheben, es zerreissen und mit Erde bedecken. Das soll kein Unheil anrichten! Vorher muss ich aber noch zur Notaufnahme.  An der Lunchbox aus Hartkunststoff stand leider nicht dran, "Achtung, bitte legen sie nicht die Finger in die Box und schliessen sie nicht gleichzeitig und kraftvoll den Deckel!" Aber ich denke, meine Fingerkuppen auf Eis werden noch eine Weile frisch bleiben, bis der Chirug sie wieder annäht. Vorsicht vor ARAL-Tankstellen, sag ich nur. Was mich allerdings irritiert, ist der Hinweis am unteren Teil dieser teuflischen Tüte. "Für Kinder unter 3 Jahren nicht geeignet." Meinen die nun die Folie oder die Lunchbox?

generell ist der Ansatz ganz interessant .. aber was ist wenn diese Mail von der Konkurrenz von Shell oder Total ausgeht .. (dann geht das ganze in die Hose, weil man danach evtl. einem grossen anderen Konzern  sowas wie eine Monopolstellung verschafft .. (Esso, BP, ARAL etc)

Der Konzerne könnte dann machen was er will ..

Also ich weiß nicht ob das wirklich eine gute Idee ist .. vielleicht sollte man sich auf kleine freie Tanken konzentrieren (die kaufen zwar auch bei den großen Gesellschaften, sind aber selber flexibeler und man zeigt der Industrie das es ein Ausweichverhalten weg von den Marken gibt - wird ggf. zu denken geben .. )

Ausserdem weniger Tanken pro Tankfüllung - dadurch wird das Geschäft an den Tankstellen personalaufwändiger, und keine Zeitschriften, etc mehr an Tankstellen kaufen dadurch fallen erheblich die Nebeneinkünfte und die Pächter müssen zum Überleben Druck auf die Konzerne ausüben ...

Alles nicht schön für die Leute die Vorort arbeiten - und die im Grunde keine Schuld trifft - aber aus meiner Sicht der einzige Weg.
oder hab ich was übersehen - bzw. gibts noch andere bessere oder ergänzende Ideen ?

Sie werfen dem Ölkonzern vor, den internationalen Klimaschutz massiv zu behindern, was u. a. von der Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), ein Wissenschaftsverband mit 200.000 Mitgliedern in den USA, bestätigt wird.

• Für den Bau einer Gaspipeline von Myanmar (früher Birma) nach Thailand durch Total und Unocal (Yadana-Projekt) sollen, um die Pipeline vor Überfällen zu schützen, die Dörfer in diesem Gebiet weiträumig zerstört und die Bevölkerung umgesiedelt worden sein.^[1] Die belegten Fälle von Zwangsarbeit, Vertreibung und Mord führten zu einem Prozeß gegen Total in den USA. Der Dokumentarfilm darüber, Total Denial zeigt die Hintergründe.

Shell

• Shell geriet 1995 in die Kritik, als es die Erdölplattform "Brent Spar" im Atlantik versenken wollte. Kritiker wie Greenpeace befürchteten schwere Umweltschäden, da die Plattform massiv mit gefährlichen Giftstoffen belastet gewesen sein sollte. Zahlreiche Organisationen riefen 1995 sogar zu einem Boykott gegen Shell auf. Aufgrund des großen öffentlichen Drucks ließ Shell von seinen Plänen ab und entschloss sich, die Brent Spar an Land zu demontieren. Allerdings zeigten unabhängige Untersuchungen, dass die Greenpeace-Informationen über die Kontamination der Ölplattform größtenteils falsch waren. Greenpeace wurde wegen der falschen Angaben massiv kritisiert. Selbst tendenziell wohlmeinende Journalisten wie der NDR-Journalist Christoph Lütgert sprachen nach der Brent-Spar-Kampagne vom "Greenpeace-Debakel".

• In den 50er Jahren begann Shell in Nigeria im Lebensraum des Volkes der Ogoni gegen deren Willen mit der Ölförderung. Durch die daraus resultierte massive Umweltverschmutzung wurden die Ogoni ihrer Lebensgrundlage beraubt, was zu Tausenden von Toten führte. Der renommierte Ogoni-Schriftsteller Ken Saro-Wiwa schrieb das Buch "Flammen der Hölle" (Anspielung auf das Abfackeln von Erdgas), in dem er die Schandtaten des Ölkonzerns öffentlich machen wollte und gründete die MOSOP (Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People). 1995 wurden Saro-Wiwa und acht weitere MOSOP-Führer in einem offensichtlichen Scheinprozess zum Tode verurteilt und hingerichtet. Weder zahlreiche Appelle und Proteste von Menschenrechtsorganisationen, Staats- und Regierungschefs anderer Länder, stille Diplomatie von Shell sowie von internationalen Organisationen wie der EU, der UNO oder der Organisation Afrikanischer Staaten konnten die nigerianische Regierung zu einer Begnadigung der Ogoni bewegen. Shell nutzte seinen Internationalen Einfluss dazu, dass das Buch "Flammen der Hölle" (Rowohlt Verlag, ISBN 3-499-13970-7) nicht mehr erhältlich ist.

• Neuen Aufschluss über die katastrophale Situation der Menschen im Ölland Nigeria gibt die englische Ausgabe von "National Geographics" vom Februar 2007. Trotz eines Verbotes durch den Federal High Court of Nigeria 2005 wurden 2006 noch über 3,5 Mill Tonnen Kohlenwasserstoffe, vor allem Erdgas, von der SPDC Tag und Nacht abgefackelt. Die Möglichkeit einer Einhaltung des gesetzlichen Verbotes ab 2008 wurde von Shell bisher nicht bestätigt, das Gesetz angefochten. ^[15] Für diese Gesamtleistung erhielt Shell 2005 den "Public Eye Award".

• Rapider Bevölkerungszuwachs, innenpolitische Probleme und ethnische Konflikte sowie soziale und wirtschaftliche Nöte verursachen weiter Unruhen in den Ölfördergebieten. Wesentlicher Streitpunkt ist die gerechte Verteilung der Öleinnahmen durch die nigerianische Zentralregierung und die Verwendung der Gelder in den Regionen und auf lokalen Ebenen ^[16].

• In Irland plant Shell (in Kooperation mit Statoil und Marathon) gegen den Willen der örtlichen Bevölkerung die Errichtung einer an Land gebauten Raffinerie für Erdgas aus dem Atlantik. Die Bewohner der abgelegenen Gegend befürchten die Zerstörung ihrer Umwelt und ihrer Lebensgrundlagen. Eine Gruppe führt unter dem Namen Shell to sea (englisch) den Widerstand gegen das Projekt. Im Mai 2007 wurde dem Anwohner und Aktivisten Willie Corduff für seinen Einsatz der Goldman Environmental Prize verliehen.

• Im Süden von Köln plant Shell seine beiden Raffinerien in Köln-Godorf und im benachbarten Wesseling durch eine Pipeline miteinander zu verbinden. Verschiedene Trassen stehen zur Auswahl, doch Shell befürwortet diejenige, die zweimal unter dem Rhein geführt werden muss und anschließend ein Naturschutzgebiet nach FFH-Richtlinien (Flora-Fauna-Habitat), einen gerade erst geschaffenen Retentionsraum gegen Hochwasser und durch den Hochwasserdamm führt. Anwohner und Politik fürchten massive Auswirkungen auf die Umwelt. Derzeit prüft die Bezirksregierung in einem Raumordnungsverfahren die Auswirkungen des Pipelinebaus.

BP (BP, Castrol, ARAL)

• Ende Oktober 2007 verhängte das US-amerikanische Justizministerium eine Strafe in Höhe von insgesamt 373 Millionen US-Dollar, davon 50 Millionen im Zusammenhang mit der Explosion in Texas und 303 Millionen wegen Preismanipulationen auf dem Propangasmarkt. Es war die bisher höchste Strafe, die gegen einen Konzern in den USA wegen Verletzung des Clean Air Act je verhängt wurde. Weiterhin verstieß der Konzern gegen den Clean Water Act im Zusammenhang mit Umweltsünden im US-Bundesstaat Alaska und erklärte sich bereit, mehrere Millionen Dollar Ausgleich zu zahlen.

Die Tankstellen leben von Preisabsprachen, da wird auch eine solche Aktion nichts bringen. Im Tankstellensektor gibt es effektiv keinen Wettbewerb, nur Preisabsprachen.

Also überlegt euch ob ihr diese Aktion unterstützen wollt, oder wirklich etwas in Gänze ändern wollt. Aber ich schätze die Mails werden sowieso ungelesen im virtuellen Papierkorb landen ;-)

Ich finds ja prima, dass man langsam aufwacht und merkt, dass es so nicht weitergehen kann, aber ein einfaches Boykott wird das Problem nicht lösen - und schon gar nicht in Gänze. Schließlich ist nicht irgendein Ölkonzern das Problem, sondern der Kapitalismus an sich.

Well it certainly has been a long week! Edinburgh was really great, I loved the city and Aral and I had a great time there. I was struck by how much space there seems to be and how wide the streets were. We stayed in a fantastic apartment, and I hope that we might return there at the end of the year.

The Highland Fling was a really relaxed fun conference, and all the sessions were engaging even for a non techy person like myself. Alan White who runs the one day conference, really looked after us and definitely made the whole trip a more enjoyable experience. On the last day we went to the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, situated in a fab red brick building the collection was amazing. The first thing you see as you walk in is the most beautiful frieze around the top of the balcony, showing famous people from Scottish history standing next to each other and wrapping around the walls, It's really something to behold. The quality of the art was very fine, and I much preferred the work to what I have seen in the National Portrait Gallery.

The flight back on Friday night was late, and although it meant we had the whole day in Edinburgh we were very tired and Saturday was spent recovering. I couldn't believe it though on Sunday when I woke up to heavy snow! I have a bit of a thing for snow, so I immediately jumped out of bed, into my coat, hat, gloves, scarf and out into the snow :). Aral and I walked through the snow to Bill's for a delicious and warm breakfast. I never thought I would see snow laying on the ground in Brighton, and I am so glad I did as I feel sure it's a treat that my children will never get to have. The Pavillion and gardens were absolutely beautiful in the snow, and several snowmen, and snowbears had been built. There is something really magical about snow, I just love it!

On Monday I house sat for my Mum who was sadly attending the funeral of my great uncle Harold. It was good to spend some time in the countryside and I got to walk through the fields where I grew up, it was odd to think that when my Mum's house is sold I won't go back there again. But time moves on and nothing stays the same forever. After taking several long walks in the countryside I thought I would get up this morning and go for a walk. I ended up going all the way to the hospital and back through Kemp Town, about 3 miles! Right now my body hates me, but I really want to keep it up as my fitness levels need to be drastically raised.

I have cast on 130 stitches on size 5.5mm circular needles for the Christening blanket. It's knitting up slowly but nicely in Stockinette stitch. I will post some pictures when it's a little further along.

I met my friend Leanne today, I haven't seen her since she had her lovely son Joshua nearly 6months ago, so it was great to catch up. We also went to buy the yarn for the christening blanket, we looked at lots but decided on 'Wendy Beach Baby DK' in cream for the center and blue for the edge. I am really looking forward to knitting up the blanket, I decided to do a plain square for the center and then a lacy edging.

Nothing much has been happening around here. I seem to have lots of ideas but no energy to put into making them happen at the moment. Maybe the trip to Scotland will help. I am looking forward to see the city in which some of my favorite books were written. I love the 44 Scotland Street books by Alexander McCall Smith, I started off reading the No.1 Ladies Detective Agency books, and both series are super!

Needle felting is really fun, you can be much more precise, and it's nowhere near as messy as wet felting. I have been messing around with this method over the weekend, and doing some regular wet felting as well. I think the best use of needle felting is for figures, such as little animals, people, and objects, and for adding detail and motifs to larger wet felted projects. Once you get over a certain size of project, wet felting really becomes much easier. I also tried combining the techniques, so I needle felted a little purse, and then wet felted it afterwards. I finished wet felting it by hand to make sure the joins were well fused. This worked pretty well, as you have lots of control over the specifics of the item and you also have the knowledge that after the wet felting it will be much stronger.

After wet felting above, after needle felting and prepared for wet felting below. As you can see the fibers are much closer bonded above. The bubble wrap is to stop the pocket felting together, and the bubbles help with the felting.

So what else happened this weekend, well it was BarCamp Brighton2 this weekend and since Singularity was sponsoring it, we spent Friday afternoon pinning badges on little silver envelopes that were to be the schwag for the event. Friday night we met up with Serena, Zoha and Colin and went for dinner at Bill's which was really great fun. The next morning after too many glasses of red wine at Bill's the night before, we got a cab to Sussex University to set up the Singularity banner and to help set up the building. I didn't enjoy the day that much, I had a super awful headache and I felt a little lost and out of place, I may try another BarCamp in the future but I'm not sure that will be too soon.

I brought a super magazine at Borders called Belle Armoire, "French for "beautiful wardrobe," Belle Armoire® marries fabric arts with rubber stamping and embellishments–showcasing one-of-a-kind, handmade fashions and wearable-art projects". It's a really great inspirational magazine, and one of my favorite articles was about Lori Marsha Sandstedt a really interesting artist who is currently making new pieces from recycled clothes. Her story was a joy to read and has really made me feel good and excited about creating new things. I think I have been a little scared of making things that are maybe too unusual, in case no one is interested in them. I think this is a problem that lots of artists have, trying to cater for the greater public instead of creating what they really love. Lori Marsha has definitely inspired me to be more true to my art and I am going to challenge myself to only make things that I myself, would love and treasure from now on.

I made some flat felted pieces which I am going to turn into little pouches or purses. Keep any eye on my Etsy shop for them, should be up tomorrow evening.

I should be going for an x-ray on my hip tomorrow, but now the pain has gone I'm really putting it off. If I do make it I'll try and take a picture of the x-ray.

I go through phases of wanting to cook, and I am definitely there right now. However nice it is to eat out, nothing replaces proper home cooked food. After traveling and eating out a lot recently my body is craving simple healthy food. Restaurant portions are much larger than they should be, I never finish a main dish and if I come close I often feel much too full afterwards. Restaurant food is also much saltier and richer than is good for you on a daily basis. However saying all this, most of my favorite foods are pretty bad for me (lots of butter and sugar) so I am trying to cut chocolate and overly processed sugary foods out of my diet.

I had a bad baking urge today, and so I made Orange Muffins. This may seem to go back on what I just said about cutting out bad sugary foods, but the difference is I made these myself, I know exactly what is in them, they are actually quite savory and don't have much sugar or fat in them and I made them with half wholemeal flour. The most important thing of course is they are really yummy, and much better for me than the partially hydrogenated fat and additives in the chocolate cornflake square that I usually have from Starbucks.

These Orange Muffins are from a Nigella Lawson recipe, they are meant as breakfast muffins, and I am going to save some for tomorrow morning :)

I am working on a pattern for a triangle beach top. I have knitted the triangles for the top, so now I am working on the bottom part of the top. I think I might line the finished creation with pretty fabric, I'll let you know how it works out.

I finally found time and inspiration enough to take photos of my modified clothing, and I have put four of my creations on Etsy and I am still up loading the rest. It took me a long time to take the pictures as I had to use a self timer and tripod, which meant lots of running back and forth.

but what really matters here was the lessons i got from the book..

napakahirap nga namang gamutin ang sakit ng lipunan, kung makikialam tayo, dapat maging handa.. kung mahina loob mo, talo ka.. hindi tayo dapat gumawa ng wala dahil ang kapalit nito ay kamatayan, wag mag-antay ng biyaya, pinagsusumikapan itong makuha.. wag isisi sa iba ang takbo ng iyong kapalaran dahil ito ay sarili mo ring kagustuhan.. kung nais umunlad, gumawa ng meron hindi lang para sa sarili.. huwag maging gahaman, huwag maghangad ng d naman kailangan..

wag maging ulang, aso(iw..), leon, buwaya, kuneho (partly), o ano mang hayop sa gubat.. mabuti pa ang langgam.. nagsusumikap.. maliit man, nabubuhay naman ng tahimik at payapa (wag lng matatapakan^_^)...

pero kung kuntento ka na sa kalagayan mo ngayon, wag kang magreklamo dahil choice mo yan AT wag ng makelam sa lagay ng ibang tao...

Gli alpinisti hanno tentato tre volte di raggiungere questa vetta ma dal 1994 il governo del paese asiatico ha proibito nuove spedizioni, per rispettare le tradizioni religiose della popolazioni locali. Ma anche dove non ci sono divieti "politici", sono moltissime le montagne ancora vergini. Solo nella regione tibetana di Nyainqentangla Est 159 cime su 164, tutte al di sopra dei 6mila metri, non sono mai state scalate. Altre si trovano in Groenlandia, per non parlare di quelle dell’Antartide. Ultimi luoghi non ancora raggiunti da piedi umani sono anche quelli che si trovano sotto la superficie terrestre: la grotta più grande della Gran Bretagna, battezzata Titan, nel Derbyshire, è stata scoperta solo nel 1999 e gli speleologi sono convinti di avere ancora molta di strada da fare, prima di poter dire che non esitano cavità sconosciute.

L’ULTIMO POSTO SENZA UNA MAPPA – L’uomo fa e, ultimamente, disfa. E’ il caso del mare di Aral: non esiste più e, al suo posto, si estende un deserto di 50mila km quadrati. E’ questo l’ultimo luogo della terra del quale non esiste una mappa. Solo foto satellitari. Fino a quarant’anni fa Muynak, in Uzbekistan, era una delle più importanti località di villeggiatura dell’Unione Sovietica e un attivissimo porto di pesca. Ora, da Muynak, l’acqua di quello che era il quarto lago più esteso del mondo, non si vede nemmeno all’orizzonte. C’è solo sabbia. La canalizzazione selvaggia, lunga oltre 40mila km, dei due fiumi Ama Dariya e Syrdariya, per irrigare giganteschi campi di cotone e riso, si è rivelata nel corso degli anni all'origine di un disastro ambientale le cui proporzioni non sono ancora misurabili fino in fondo. Intanto però si sa per certo che malnutrizione, carestie, mancanza di acqua potabile e mutamenti climatici hanno messo in ginocchio decine di migliaia di persone. Una ricerca di Medicins Sans Frontieres tra la popolazione dell’area documenta che questa è diventata la zona del mondo con il più alto numeri di casi di tubercolosi. E che molti ceppi non risultano curabili.

L'ULTIMO POSTO ENTRATO IN CONTATTO CON LA CIVILTA' - Filadelfia, Paraguay, paese al confine con la giungla. A circa cento chilometri da qui c'è l'ultimo luogo della terra dove un gruppo di umani, che nessuno aveva mai visto prima, il 3 marzo 2004 decise che era venuto il momento di rompere gli indugi. Diciassette indigeni Ayoreo uscirono dalla vegetazione spinti dalla sete perché gli allevatori di bestiame si erano appropriati delle loro riserve d'acqua. Se non messi in ginocchio da condizioni esterne ed estreme, i "selvaggi" solitamente ben si guardano dall'entrare in contatto con il resto del mondo. Anzi: nel 2006 i sentinelesi, indigeni che abitano una minuscola isola delle Andamane, hanno ucciso due pescatori che si erano avvicinati troppo alle loro coste e, subito dopo lo tsunami del 2004, scagliarono frecce verso gli elicotteri che sorvolavano la loro isola. Il ministero brasiliano per gli affari indigeni ha aggiornato recentemente l'ultima stima del 2005 sulle tribù ancora sconosciute nel proprio territorio ed ha alzato il numero da 40 a 67.

Milk and homemade biscuits! I made these using one of Nigella's recipes for butter cookies, but I used half wholemeal and half plain flour, and I grated some dark chocolate into the mixture instead of vanilla essence. They came out lovely, very crunchy and crumbly but not too hard or too sweet, just perfect :) .

I brought this fabric today and I love it! I certainly do have eclectic taste so I am sure this is not to everyone's liking but I adore it. There is a better photo of it on my Flickr site. I also brought some dark blue jersey to make some tops and some Plum coloured lining for this fabric.

I think this will be a skirt or a dress... hmm.

I also just got around to photographing some of my Christmas pressies.

Aral brought me this lovely coat, this is the bottom of the fabric, the top part is plain black wool.

My mother brought me some lovely felting wool, some shell star buttons, and this lovely book on Marilyn Monroe.

I brought this plant for Aral as he is allergic to most flowers but liked the idea of having a plant in the house.

The crocheted blanket is still going ok, but I have had some issues with the yarn I am using, one of the balls was very badly wound with lots of uneven spinning and odd strands coming loose. I think I will send it to the manufactures and see what they say.

I am going to attempt to make some simple tab top curtains for the bedroom, I brought the fabric in the sale along with some blackout linings for £18 :) .

The job was okay for a month, but I soon realised I was working far more than I had expected and some of my shifts didn't finish till 10pm. I was pretty unhappy, homesick and still barely making enough money so I decided to call it a day. I stayed in London till August and looked around for other jobs, but no luck, so back home I went. I signed up to do a craft fair and worked hard making my little soft toys and knitted scarves. The show was on the 27th of August, bank holiday weekend and it was a bright sunny day.

I had twittered the night before that I was going to a craft fair and one of my contacts Aral asked me where it was, and what I was selling. I told him that I had made soft toys and he wanted to meet to see if it would be possible to make this little guy into a softie. The day after the fair we meet for dinner, and that night he asked me to go to Boston with him where he was speaking at a conference. I agreed and the rest is history, we've been together mostly everyday since and I moved in early November.

There was another fair in December, and I was planning to launch a pet project this spring, but I think that is going to have to wait, for now at least. Christmas was another blur, I was working up until Christmas Eve, and Aral was ill also, but we had a nice day with lots of lovely presents (felting wool, wooden knitting needles) and a delicious lunch :) Everyone loved my handmade gifts which included an apron, necklace, needle case, crocheted glasses case, and hand decorated cups.

But now it's time for a new start, I will be helping Aral this year with Singularity, I am planning a very early spring clean for next week, and I have several projects on the go as usual. Aral's re-worked scarf is nearly done, I am knitting myself a very short muffler scarf with the thrifted vintage Jaeger Baroque, and I have started work on a crocheted blanket in Patons washed haze with four colours of crocheted squares, this is my first blanket so it's very simple and I'll see how I go.

On a brighter note, I took the money from the show and brought materials to make Christmas presents :) and I can't wait to get started. I am going to try and make all my Christmas presents but there are a few things I am going to have to buy. I have had to think hard to find enough things to make (there's only so many scarves a person can have), but I think I have come up with some good ideas. I am also making most of the decorations for the tree and the house so I have my work cut out and only 3 weeks to do it all!

I was so lucky to have Aral and my Mother there with me all day yesterday, without them I would have been totally lost and extremely bored. Aral took lots of photos and they will be uploaded in a few days when I get a chance to take them off the camera.

I was inspired  by the embroidered Christmas baubles in the image of the Sublime Stitchmas competition advert, to create my own hanging embroidered baubles. I made some in red and white for the show and I am going to make some more in pink and blue for our tree. I am using felt as the base and embroidery floss in sparkly and complimentary colours for the decoration. I am also still trying to crochet a snowflake and I am hoping to crochet around some baubles and see what the effect is.
