Anyone born without disability can hear.  God made us with two hearing instruments, one on either side of our head.  Hearing is easy for it requires nothing of us.  We don't have to switch it on for our hearing is always on.  We can't even switch it off when we want to because God didn't design us that way.  Since we're made in His image, does that mean God always hears too?

To hear is one thing, but to receive is quite another. To receive, we must accept it.  Sometimes its hard to accept the truth.  For example, say you were raised believing you and everyone else were basically good.  Well, then it might be hard to accept God's Word telling us in Romans 3:23 "all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God" or Psalm 14:3 "They have all turned aside,They have together become corrupt; There is none who does good, No, not one."

To receive means accepting the truth.  But it also implies change once the truth is received.  For example Ephesians 4:28 "Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need."  This change in behavior is witness to receiving truth in our life.

What changes have you seen since you received truth in your life?  Praise God for them.

Lord, thank you for your word.  Thank you for hearing us.  Teach us to receive your truth so the years of our lives may be many. In Jesus' name, Amen.

To add to this - we're soon to be led by a new manager. To be specific: he'll be commencing his position on the 15th September. Not only is there the problem of going through the whole process of creating a strong impression on the new manager but persisting so to ensuring that they somewhat prefer you as a recruitment candidate should the opportunity for permanency arise. O, fun times!

I'm so over this form of insecurity and fear of job term expiration. While the concern of the security of our jobs linger in our minds and continue to do so, one thing to consider is that we should always be prepared to overcome the ramifications of losing our job or in general, the unpredictability of our current jobs. The best methodology to battle the questionability and insecurity of our jobs is through great organisation of our own work interests. A few points to consider when the 'end' (so gloomy-sounding!) of our jobs draws imminently closer:

• Find out the precise date of the term expiration of your job - how else will you know when and how to prepare when you're out of there?;
• Keep performing well for the remainder of the job term - you never know if your leader/manager will extend your contract or not so keep at it and be open about it;
• Start looking for new jobs - c'mon! this is the most common step in reacting to possible job loss;
• Ask your manager about the status of your employment contract and any likelihood if it will be assessed or be extended - most people will claim that this can be perceived as compulsive and over-eager but realistically, employees have the right to ask so don't be afraid to enforce your right; and lastly,
• Be optimistic! (there is really no end to a job; only new beginnings to better opportunities and better jobs.)

For myself, I've been doing fairly well with the job I'm working and quite evident through the repetitive extension of my secondment. So far, the secondment of mine has been extended twice. For now, it's due to approximately expire at the end of November. Definitely still a while until the secondment dissolves.

Occasionally temporary positions are usually backed up by the original position that the employee transitioned from. If so, at least if your contract has expired - you'll still have a job to fall back on. Maybe one that you formerly didn't enjoy but certainly better than no job at all. Consider whether your mind can reconcile relapsing into your older position in which I assume you were trying to get away in the first place.

I've mentally planned out what I'm going to do before the term expiry of my secondment. I do have a past job ascertained if this secondment should fizzle out but honestly, without getting into detail about it - I really don't want to return to it. Ergo, here is a rough plan of what I'm preparing to do in the meantime:

• Apply for new part-time jobs internally that match or are above the wages of my current role;
• Apply for new part-time jobs outside the company match or above the wages of my current role;
• Seek summer vacation work at numerous accounting firms;
• Refine my interview-handling skills (it's been a while.. bah);

That's it for the moment. I'm experiencing a bout of concentration burnout now.

Cover upper and lower lips with a little foundation. Outline lips with lip liner. Choose the lipstick color, then begin applying lipstick by brushing a darker shade onto the lighter lip and a lighter shade onto the darker lip.

the iphone backup is really starting to get to me.  each time i attach my phone to my laptop and sync, the iphone needs to back up everything.  what for?  no idea but it's really frustrating.  so some research and a few tweaks later, here i am syncing directly without having to back things up.  i hear that this won't work all the time but on my laptop, i've had no problems so far.  basically, here are steps to disable the backup from your windows iTunes.  mac has their own procedure which i hear is much easier but until someone makes a single click patch, this is the only way to go for PC users.

1. Find the iTunesPrefs.xml file.  If you install into default directories, you will find this in c:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes or you might find it in c:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes.  If you can't see the file make sure that you make hidden files visible in your Windows Explorer.

2. Backup the iTunesPrefs.xml file  (a.k.a. make a copy of it and store it somewhere else on your PC:p)

3. Open the iTunesPrefs.xml file using a text editor.  You might have to find a text editor aside from MS Notepad.

4. In the code, you will have to look for a section called User Preferences.  The copy and paste the following snippet into the User Preferences section right after the first <dict> tag:

5. Save the file when you are done and then restart your iTunes program.  Your next sync should exclude the unnecessary backup done on your iPhone.  If you want to enable backing up of your iPhone image again, simply erase the XML snippet that you included earlier.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has confirmed that the iPhone 3G has a kill switch that can remotely remove software from the devices.

Jobs told The Wall Street Journal that Apple needs the capability in case it inadvertently allows a malicious program -- such as an application that steals user's personal data -- to be distributed to iPhones through its App Store.

"Hopefully we never have to pull that lever, but we would be irresponsible not to have a lever like that to pull," Jobs said.

Switch Not Used

Jobs' statement reveals Apple hasn't used the kill switch yet, but the company did remove an application from the App Store last week.

Apple removed the $999 "I Am Rich" application, which had the sole purpose of showing people the owner has money. The program creates a red icon that sits on the iPhone deck with a the words "I Am Rich" underneath. After the user activates the application, it glows on the handset like a ruby.

Apple initially approved the application, which bumps up against the pricing limit for applications sold on its App Store. The company was not immediately available for comment on why it decided to pull the plug.

Yet the word seems to be spreading fairly well.

People keep coming up to her and telling her how they hate lawyers, or how they're excited for her. I think people are also happy to see her escape.

And then they ask, so, what's Lizzie going to do?

Sometimes people ask me. I don't have a sanitized work version available. I try not to talk about it much. I mean, would you talk to people you don't know that well about how you're looking for a job? No.

Jade's answer is: Lizzie is here for the foreseeable future.

My answer is: I am trying to follow her when I can. Or sometimes more bluntly, yes, I'm looking for a job. But I don't tell them that I've had an interview or where I'm looking or what I plan to do.

It's odd to know that your supervisors know that you're looking for a job, and even more odd when one of them sends out feelers for you, and then forwards you the e-mail.

That's the danger of having couples work together, I guess. Though when they hired us, they didn't know we were a couple.

Anyway, the job search is making me nervous. I did have a second interview last week. It went fine. No word, but my gut tells me I didn't get it. But every time I express my doubts, an optimistic friend or Jade will tell me that this particular institution is likely to move very slowly in the hiring process. It did take them almost a month after the job posting closed to start the interviews.

So I applied for a couple more jobs, and no word there, either. Total job apply count: five. Total jobs I've had any contact with: one.

I guess I need to be patient. It's just interfering with plans. Do we need to rent out a room in our house? What if I get a job right after I rent a room out? I already know that I'm going to have to ask for someone that doesn't mind getting a room short term. Does short term mean a month? Two months? Three? I don't know. How can I expect to ask anyone to move in for just a month? We were going to offer the room furnished, if desired. Now it's more likely only to be furnished if the person doesn't mind sleeping on a day bed, because Jade ended up taking a nonfurnished room herself.

This thing with Jade leaving is getting really hard to take. My eyes sorta well up every time I think about, well, this is the last time we'll do this or soon, a bunch of her stuff will be gone. Leaving a big empty hole both in the house and in my heart.

So on my job search "job". My days start early. Trying my best to get a one up on the competition. I receive a lot of email alerts from different job sites, like Kaiser Permanente. As soon as I get them I put my application in. I almost feel crazy submitting resume after resume. Never getting any responses or call backs. Well not to be a liar like that, I do get those automated responses saying the company I applied for has received my resume. It goes something like this.

So on a daily, I will get a couple of the above confirmations in my inbox. Somewhere in those lines and words common to all who apply is a hope that I will be picked for the job, in which, I have given my time and effort too.
